“He Wasn’t Over 80 Percent Healthy A Single Game This Season”

Driven

Interesting of revelation coming out of mercurial NFL superwife Miko Grimes.

Grimes, of course, is the wife of Buccaneers cornerback Brent Grimes.

Remember that ugly shin-splitting gash that cost Grimes his entire preseason. Joe was feet away on the training camp sidelines when it happened. Nasty.

Then remember Week 2 in Minnesota, the predictable Ryan Smith nightmare happened when Grimes was out with a shoulder injury and the Bucs defense collapsed. He came back the following week and did an excellent job helping to neuter Odell Beckham, Jr., in a Bucs win against the Giants.

Grimes missed two more games in October with a shoulder injury and gutted out the season from there.

Miko took to Instagram to let the free world know Grimes balled out this season, despite significant injuries from Day 1.

Congrats to my hubby on completing year 12 of his NFL career!! 🍾🍾🍾I dont normally post videos of people catching tds on my man but this one is significant for two reasons. 1st.. its the ONLY TD caught on #BrentGrimes the entire season. 2nd… peep how PERFECT the pass had to be to get it by him. He jumped damn near 15’ across the end-zone tryna break it up.😳😳😳 Thats the exact typa fu*k sh*t he was on this season and every qb in the league knew it, so they avoided him as much as possible. He wasnt over 80% healthy a single game this season, btw, and he gave the whole league PROBLEMS at the blossoming age of 34!🕺🏼Who remembers the Dolphins media and front office saying he was washed two years ago and not worth the money?!!

That “80 percent” healthy line is intriguing. It speaks very well for Grimes’ production and toughness, but it also makes you wonder whether he’s breaking down.

Regardless, Grimes is the Bucs’ best cornerback by a wide margin, and he’d be some other teams’ best corner, too.

He’ll be a free agent in a matter of days and Dirk Koetter already has dropped a sales pitch on him to return.

Pay the man! Joe can’t think of a reason not to.

Would the Bucs dare franchise tag Grimes? It would cost roughly $14 million for the 2018 season. That’s too much cash for Grimes, but the Bucs are desperate at the position.

    Yes, pay the man.
It’s hard to believe that a less than 80% 34 year old is our best DB, BY FAR!
Tip O’ the hat Brent Grimes!

  2. VA BUC Says:

i love miko but Brent gave up more than 1 td she be trippin sometimes about ol brent

  3. Mort Says:

“A matter of days” is actually “A couple months”, but you know, whatever.

  4. El_Buc941 Says:

How badass would it be to resign Grimes,Get Talib AND Bennet this offseason?is that a stretch Joe? I mean we are going to free up a ton of cap space between Doug Martin,Baker,Ayers,ward..etc.we will have the money to pay them.the question is.do they wanna play for Tampa AGAIN!

  5. tmaxcon Says:

Grimes cares about winning why would he come back to a crapshow franchise led by captain blowout cancer93 and the glazer clowns neither of which care about winning… run mr grimes get away from cancer93 and the circus that is the Tampa bay buccaneers franchise.

Miko has ten times the class and heart than any member of this pathetic franchise

  6. Asdf Says:

That wasn’t a TD…one foot down. Unreal athleticism by Brent on that one though. Wow.

Jets did score a TD on Grimes with like 30 seconds left in that game however.

  7. BrianBucs Says:

    VA BUC

Yep, wonder if she watched all of the games? LOL

  8. SB Says:

“Would the Bucs dare franchise tag Grimes? ”

Bourbon is a good thing but maybe not so early Joe.

  9. Baz Says:

If Grimes is breaking down, I wish all our CB’s would “break down” like him!

  10. 813bucboi Says:

grimes is a baller…no doubt about it….miko would be an excellent agent I know that….

this may sound crazy but I think grimes is semi handcuffing this team and we should let him walk….but it aint his fault…..blame coach my scheme smitty….

smitty likes for his cb’s to play that soft zone coverage….problem is grimes is the only one that can play that style of coverage at a high level….VHG ryan smith, j.elliott and even mcclain are man press cbs…..

so we’re playing in a defense that plays to the strength of 1 cb and only allows 1 cb to excel while hanging the other cbs out to dry….man press is not grimes game….too small….wrs get physical with him at the LOS and its a wrap….

on the flip side you have 2 young athletic cbs that excel at man press coverage and being physical at the LOS…..everybody saw how much better VHG played when he played bump and run at the LOS….ryan smith same way…..

dirk has to man up and tell smitty no more soft coverage…..GO BUCS!!!!

  11. miken Says:

He wasn’t 80 % healthy….. Of course he wasn’t. He’s 35 and very few pushing that age can stay healthy. I like him and would say it’s time to move on but we got no where else to go.

  12. Pa Privateer Says:

Even if Grimes’ body starts breaking down, he has unlimited knowledge to teach the other CBs on the roster.

  13. doolnutts Says:

We can’t afford to lose him with who we have left on the team. That and how much will he really cost? He isn’t going to require a long-term deal that would be harmful to the cap.

  14. Debilah Says:

Believe me when I say Brent is not breaking down, he was hurt and as his mother would not have let him play, but Brent is grown and does not like sitting around. BYE with the age and breaking down.

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Franchise tag a 34-year old who’s thinking about retirement? I agree with SB about the bourbon Joe …. too early in the day.

BTW, there are a LOT of pretty decent cornerback FAs available this year (Hint Jason … sign at least 2). Also quite a few DLine FAs who could hit the market, especially DEs (Another hint Jason … don’t dilly dally like you did last year. You screwed the Bucs’ defense. Sign at least 2 stud DEs & 1 monster DT PLUS Clinton McDonald).

Would personally love to see Brent Grimes come back for 1-2 more years, but only at a reasonable price ($14 mil isn’t reasonable) He’s tough as nails, but 35-year old CBs playing 16 games … plus 4 more playoff games (hey, I’m an optimist) … is probably asking too much. The CBs that we have under contract are average to below average. We need to upgrade BOTH starting outside corners IF Brent doesn’t return.

  16. Tom Edrington Says:

Really good player but he’s battling an undefeated opponent — Father Time.

  17. El_Buc941 Says:

I say sign him to a maximum of 2 yrs for $18mil with $9mil guarantee.it would be our luck he falls off the 2nd yr.also I think it would have a lot to do with who else we pick up in the draft and Free Agency.it would be our luck we can’t resign him and he goes back to Atlanta or Carolina.

  18. Pickgrin Says:

Duplicating his just completed contract would be a fair deal for both sides. (not really because Brent will be 35 this year – but the Bucs are desperate for whatever Grimes has left in the tank).

    2 years – $16M – $8M guaranteed in 2018.

  19. BucEmUp Says:

Please come back brent….despite our dc sucking at least you make it less painful to watch buddy!

  20. pewterpirate99 Says:

You know I can’t stand this woman. Why doesn’t he get his balls out of her purse and speak for himself. I have ZERO respect for a man that has his wife speak for him all the damn time. This has been there “M.O.” since day one. And don’t give this crap about a woman supporting her man, she’s always speaking for him. She did it in Atlanta, she did it in Miami and now here. I’m willing to bet she tells him what do do at home and out in public too. SHUT THE F@CK UP MIKO, no one cares about your opinion. As far as him coming back, why would he want to? This is not a winning team nor are they going to be one next season. If I were him I’d want to get away from this franchise as soon as possible. And if the Glazers/Licht franchise this guy and end up paying a 34 year old corner $14 million, that will just solidify my belief that they are completely clueless buffoons. I mean I already believe that but this would just scream of desperation and cluelessness. If you’re going to spend that kind of money on a player, make sure he has a hell of a lot more upside than an aging corner who’s NOT going to get faster and better as he gets older. The fact that he was our best corner this year should tell you everything you need to know about the ineptitude of the front office.

  21. Tackleblockwin Says:

Dolphins loss was our gain. Really hope he stays for next season.

  22. Getaclue Says:

Perhaps that was the unfinished business reference. Didn’t wanna go out after a season hampered by injuries

  23. Oxycondoms Says:

Before the season I was scratching my head with all the hype about the Bucs defense. The best player in the back and best player up front were both past their primes with the rest of players being scrubs except the linebackers.

  24. derrickbrooksforGM Says:

Bring in Talib and pay anything to keep Grimes one more year. Trade up to get Minkah to replace Conte and CB depth, then sign every single DE you can find. Hargraves will be nice nickle option and CB depth. Move Kown to strong side LB (he was awful against the run this year) and start Beckwith at MLB.

  25. Trollslayer Says:

    Tmaxcon

Why do you even post here? All you ever do isn’t hate on players
And the team do you enjoy being a troll? If it bothers you so bad
Why are you still here? You’re quite annoying a real fan sticks by
His team and players no matter what and GMAC isn’t going
Anywhere and I believe with a solid edge rush he will be a force
The man plays his guts out for us usually he’s injured most the time
And is still respected by opposing offenses like jeez dude
    Lay off the haterade

  26. 813bucboi Says:

    start Beckwith at MLB.

    I LOVE THAT IDEA!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

Time fies when you’re having fun! Or trying to sign free agents…

    Ouch.

pewterpirate99 It always amazes me that people can voice their opinion which you are entitled to, but at least have facts. You should have respect for the truth. Believe me, Brent makes his own decisions. You should tell him to his face how you feel. After reading what you wrote, you are definitely not a Buccaneers fan and surely not a fan of my son. I am so glad Brent doesn’t read this mess. Haters are his motivators. Bye PEWTERPIRATE99
