Uncomfortable News For Bucs Fans

January 24th, 2018

Releases prospects list.

If you put any stock into the words of Todd McShay, this will tighten your tailpipe.

McShay, a draftnik seen, heard and read on BSPN, came out with his top 32 draft prospects after watching preliminary practices at the Senior Bowl. It is not good news for Bucs fans who demand the Bucs fill one of the two biggest holes in the roster with the best of the best.

When Joe spoke with the great Mike Mayock, top draft guru for NFL Network, Mayock said two players are head and shoulders above the rest. And those two just happen to be stars playing where the Bucs have Grand Canyon holes, running back and defensive end, Saquon Barkley and Bradley Chubb, respectively.

Well, if the draft plays out specifically due to talent and not position, the Bucs will be like the little kid fogging up the glass case of the candy display because he can’t have any.

McShay believes both Barkley (first) and Chubb (fourth) will be gone before the Bucs pick at No. 7 — again, if talent is chosen over position. This sort of motivates Joe to wonder more about what sort of ransom the Browns would want for the No. 4 overall pick?

For those wondering, McShay has Harold Landry and Marcus Davenport at Nos. 20 and 21.

Who didn’t think that dropping from 5 to 7 wouldn’t cost the Bucs the premier guys? We didn’t have much chance at 5….but at 7? Knife edge slim to none. Trade down Licht…and for Gods sake, don’t draft a kicker in the first few rounds.

  2. Buc believer Says:

Boy oh boy I’m sure glad we won that meaningless game against the Saints!

  3. mark2001 Says:

BTW…regarding your question Joe…at least our first and second round pick. But as we are only one player away from being SB champs, thankfully we can afford to do the transaction.

  4. AlteredEgo Says:

    Oh ..please….

  5. miken Says:

That win over the saints cost us big. Some Mock drafts only have 1 DE (chubb) and 1 rb (Barkley) going in the 1st rd. Not good! Got to pray team are trading up into the top 6 for qbs. As as we beat the saints I was thinking about the bs win over the cowboys that moved us behind the cowboys and jags in the draft which meant Zeke and ramsey were gone so we traded down and got vh3 and a kicker. I’m sure someone will go flying up the draft board after Indy and Jason will make a big reach.

  6. C eh N eh D eh Says:

stop the trade up crap…have the Bucs not learned any lessons about wasting draft picks?…trade down is the play if those guys are gone..

  7. Tnew Says:

Forget Barkley. Unless he pulls a Sapp between now and the draft he isn’t a possibility. Chubb could fall and that is the hope. The choice is going to be a safe pick, Nelson or rolling the dice on Davenport.

  8. DoNUTS Says:

In some ways, Winston’s impromptu TD to win the NO game cost his team the ability to build through the draft for team need. Funny thing is we knew we would get this with Winston; we should not act surprised. Hence, the Nelson/ND OG talk (best player available at 7).

As always, Glazers get and want only NFL scraps. If their were 4 tiers of NFL ownership (ratings), the Glazers would be on the bottom tier. We can put the hopeful images of players like L. Bell and last year C Campbell away. The Bucs will not be in the playoffs again until the Glazers sell the team.

    Its a Bucs life.

  9. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Every year people trip over the “top prospects” in the draft. I could care less about any of them. One reason I tolerate Licht is that his ability to zero in on lower picks and udfa’s is exceptional. Look at the patriots. Most of their roster is udfa’s and throw always that nobody wanted. Yes their are “can’t miss prospects” in this draft, just as every draft. But I’m more focused on the diamond in the roughs.

  10. Tnew Says:

The only thing we are missing by beating the saints was Trade up or back value. Barkley doesn’t make it past 4 and if Chubb gets by the colts he most likely falls to 7.

  11. doolnutts Says:

The G from Notre Dame would be a great pick… Not flashy but that kid is getting a lot of praise…

  12. Destinjohnny Says:

    We can’t even win right

  13. DoNUTS Says:

    there not “their”…sorry. Coffee!

When they won the game, I was happy after for them such a poorly played season as a team. After a 5-11 season and having a few weeks for the lone win to end the season sit in….it matters a lot less.

For clarity, I dont blame Winston for winning the game; he did the right thing but its funny how it worked out. The only good news is that the season is over and there is time to get to work on fixing some of the obvious major holes on the team.

  14. Buc50 Says:

No one drafts guards that high. I’ve said all along that winning is that last game was not good for the Bucs. Nose pressed against the glass for sure.

  15. LUVMYBUCS Says:

I’ll say it again if Quenton Nelson is off the board trade down for Vita Vea.

    #TrenchWarFare

  16. mark2001 Says:

You want to know the real problem? The Bucs overestimate the quality of some of the guys they have, and therefore extend a problem while other teams do it correctly and pass us by. And that also causes underestimating the critical needs at many positions on the team, resulting in looking at a handful of guys as the solution to building a SB team, and making stupid picks like Alberto. It is one thing to use the Patriot method if that is truly the situation…but isn’t here and maybe Licht is out of his depth because of his learning experience with the Patriots.

  17. AceofAerospace Says:

That’s why I never celebrated that asinine win over the Saints.

  18. mark2001 Says:

Buc50 Agree that most of those OL guys drafted that high are Tackles. But instead of great decisions, we might end up with good or better one. And that is why trading down, assuming there is a good partner to do the deal, and considering the many holes this team has, might be the best decision.

  19. mark2001 Says:

And guys didn’t notice how Carolina didn’t seemed disturbed at all in their loss to the Bucs in the 9-7 year? They knew that it improved their stock. We just couldn’t figure it out. And the game we had to have two years ago? New Orleans? We got smoked.

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Glad we beat the Fu—inn Saints…don’t care about draft position. No such thing as a meaningless game unless you believe your life is meaningless also.

  21. LUVMYBUCS Says:

No one drafts guards that high. I’ve said all along that winning is that last game was not good for the Bucs. Nose pressed against the glass for sure.

Lol, 2016 everyone was saying the samething about drafting a RT in the Top 10.
Well, we all know how that workedout. That same dude turned into an All-Pro.
    -RT Jack Conklin

  22. mark2001 Says:

And Buc50…that assumes that Koetter and Licht believe we aren’t just a couple guys away from the SB. And I don’t know how they perceive the needs on this team….but what I’m hearing doesn’t sound like they believe we need seven or eight upgrades.

  23. feelthepewterpower Says:

Buccs were going to pick Conklin but Tennessee got him first

  24. 813bucboi Says:

I was part of the “tank” the last game club for this reason alone….the season was done….

what was the benefit of winning that last game?……being able to say we went 1-5 in the division…..not buying the “momentum” into next season when you go 1-5 in the last 6games…..

funny how when we needed a win, we found every way possible to lose…but when we need a “L” we fight hard as hell to win….lol…

its a bucs life alright….GO BUCS!!!!

  25. SteveK Says:

If Quentin Nelson is going to be a stud interior linemen for the next decade, take him.

BPA, especially if they are a trench player. We need to win up front.

  26. 813bucboi Says:

    I wouldn’t mind nelson at #7…..has talent…fits a need….he’s not a reach….GO BUCS!!!!

  27. MadMax Says:

Worst case scenario – probably going to have to look beyond Chubb, Fitz, Nelson, Barkley….but in with those 4 should be at least 2 QB’s going.

So where does that leave us? Trade down and still land Vita, then take the best edge rush with our 2nd pick or trade up a little for him…..

Then RB Penny with our 3rd pick…

eh, thats where im at anyway. But you never know, lots of time between now and the draft….scenario could play out differently.

  28. C eh N eh D eh Says:

you can’t force a pick for need…that’s where teams fail miserably…Nelson, Chubb or Barkley are plug and play at need positions…No brainer picks…Anyone else at #7 is forcing it, except maybe a QB! yes, it must be considered…a lot of QB talent there this year 🙂

  29. MadMax Says:

@LUV, just read your comment…..great minds brotha!

  30. MadMax Says:

Vita will rise from probably 20’ish to top 10 between now and after the combine.

We need that Samoan WARRIOR ON D!!!! Do not underestimate him. Im telling you, thats our key for D line especially if we do more 3-4.

  33. MadMax Says:

@Luv, all the guys we were talking so much about last month are now rising….watch Penny go from a 3rd to bottom of the 1st/top of 2nd now, LOL! We know our stuff!

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If anyone wants to know whether to take him seriously…compare his mock to the actual picks last year.

They don’t exactly match up in most places.

  35. Not there yet Says:

Yep we already knew they’d be gone, this isn’t going to be like last year’s first round luck. I think we are in trade down territory, you can’t afford to reach for a guy and be wrong and can’t afford to tease up because of all the holes in the defense. You did it to yourself licht, took you too long to build the offense and it’s coming back to haunt you, you have to smile in front of the camera and speak confident in the mic but all buc fans know your in the nervous sweat of a teenagers first date.

  36. Hawaiian Buc Says:

For those of you crying that we beat the Saints, don’t take this the wrong way, but you guys are losers. The Browns pick toward the top of the draft every year. How has that worked out? Here’s an idea – scout better. There are tons and tons of great players picked after #7 every single freaking year!!! Some people are apparently so ignorant that they truly believe otherwise. Do your job and find those players, or trade up and get the guy you want. But to say we should have lost on purpose is a loser mentality, and anyone who feels that way is a loser. You try to win every single game on the schedule.

  37. LovieBall Says:

Trade back into the first for Will Hernandez

  38. Pa Privateer Says:

It’s not a horrible scenario for Barkley, Chubb, and Nelson to be gone at #7. If that happens, a QB needy team could trade up. Pipe dream for sure, but I would be okay with trade down if the top prospects get picked before us.

My Personal Rule. If you cannot get the position of NEED (draft/FA) then focus on a position that impacts the NEED.

Example: We NEED DE very bad, but none are available in FA or at #7. SO you go with enhancing the DT position in FA or the Draft.

I am on the DT Dontari Poe (FA) and DT Vita Vea (draft) bandwagon.

  39. Wausa Says:

I agree with the crowd that says to trade down a few spots if possible if Chubb is gone.

There are teams desperate for OT and QB and the Bucs selection should be a good landing spot.

  40. BucEmUp Says:

I’m with shutthebucuo, Jason Licht will continue to build this team through every draft and I’m confident with him assembling a roster through the draft.

Now if only they had a good defensive coordinator that didn’t have his dbs playing as if they were escorting an old lady across the street

  41. Kobe Faker's Girl Says:

Figuring out the draft is meaningless right now

Free agents Alex Smith, Kirk Cousins, and possibly Nick Foles and where they will be going will decide and shakeup the Draft ….and only then we will see the actual draft become clearer

“The 2018 NFL Draft will be decided by Alex Smith and where he goes”

    Kandy Faker

  42. JimmyJack Says:

You’re just a scrub tier fan if you wish the team to lose. Funny thing is you know you can’t tell anybody with a straight face that Chubb will have a better career then Nelson or Fitzpatrick or anybody for that matter.

Even funnier is your still crying about us winning and if you had a clue you would see that the two teams that moved ahead of us are not even going to pick your beloved Chubb.

And if QBs start getting picked you guys that are crying about us winning will probably be shouting with the loudest joy if we trade down which is a very realistic probability at 7.

You guys don’t even know what’s good for ya……How about you go tell Winston to lay down for a game……Or better yet tell him to ride the pine because you want to lose and see what he tells you when you try to negotiate a contract with him………Or better yet maybe your wife outa show up to your bowling league tourney and tell you to throw the last game because she like the consolation prize for her home decor……..Anybody cheering for their own team to lose may understand some X’s and O’s and maybe understand prospects and such but you truely truely don’t understand much about sports at all at the end of the day.

  46. MadMax Says:

I’ll admit, at first I wanted to tank that last game. But then I saw how they were playing and fighting in the first few minutes and said F it, beat those Aints! That mentality is something to build on for the next season.

I think being 5-11 makes all bucs fans losers…lol….I rather be 4-12 with the #4pick knowing that I have a realistic chance at chubb vs 5-11 sitting at #7 on the outside looking in….

seems like everyone is winning but us….GO BUCS!!!!

  52. martinii Says:

I put more stock in Mayock’s analysis. McShay is a Kiper wannabe and like someone mentioned above his track record is not all that good. Thats one reason you see him working the sideline during games. He is better at concussion protocol reporting than player evaluation.

  53. Aaron Says:

We just need to let it play out – we don’t know which teams a head of us sign a FA QB and dont draft a QB. We have plenty of needs to find someone to help. (Safety, guard / O-line. maybe a corning pops into the top 10)

I’m just not sure we have good enough position coaching to make a difference anyway….

    Go bucs!

  54. Tom Says:

Imo if Chubb is gone & the choice is Nelson or Barkley I would definitely take Nelson since I consider him Nfl ready. Best OG since Zack Martin.

  55. 813bucboi Says:

we got blown out by the vikes early then went on to have 2 5game losing streaks……at that point, what’s 1 more lose?….lol….

I was neutral on that, but I can certainly see the appeal in wanting your team to loose the last meaningless game in order to ensure the greater potential for long term future success. It obvious has nothing to do with lack of being a real fan. Having Bradley Chubb vs not having Bradley Chubb is a very big deal. Anyone who rooted for a loss in the last game was doing so for the teams greater benefit in their mind. But youre argument is “nope..idc it means youre not a fan”.

Sorry Pepsi but cheering for your team to win is exactly what makes you a fan.

When you are rooting for your team to lose you are in the same category as a bandwagon fan(which is not a true fan). You only rooting for you team to win until you have something better to root for. Sorry if you don’t like it but that’s the textbook definition of a bandwagoner.

Anybody caught disagreeing…….Not you since you said you were neutral, is just in a sad state of denial.

But it’s ok. Fan bases need all types…..fringe fans, diehards and banwagoners. It’s also OK because nothing is set in stone and you can change your fan status at any time…..it is hard work though.

I’m glad we beat the Saints …the heck with the couple of spots of draft position this team NEEDED that win to take a small (baby) step toward breaking out of the losing culture it has. Who’s to say who will be available at what pick and which of those picks will even pan out? No one thought OJ Howard would be sitting there at 20. No one thought Chicago would trade up and make a play for a QB last year …no one knows until its over. Teams fall in love with certain players all the time, FA factors in as well. The key thing for the Bucs, which every team strives for, is to hit on your picks when its your turn to pick.

The amount of money you spend on the Bucs will only gain your standing from a social standpoint but not from a fans. You can’t just buy your way out of bandwagon-ness.

You go back and look if you wish but I didn’t never root for my team to lose. And if a lot of people did that just mean we got a lot of bandwagoneers. In no way does it change the definition.

“Bucs need a pass rush the most (if not a new coaching staff). But when I think about it more and more I think Mayock might have it totally backwards with the number seven pick. Even though Chubb is a monster, DEs in the early rounds are very hard to tell if they’re going to bust and who’s going to or not. Barkley has a good chance of being a good player, but he WON’T be there at seven. When I look at Minkah Fitzpatrick and Quenton Nelson I see two players that are going to dominate in the NFL. Certainly not going to bust. If we got either of those players at number seven I would likely be just as happy as getting Chubb or Barkley (well…maybe not as happy as Barkley). Oline and CB (where Minkah will likely play in the NFL) are just other holes needed for the Bucs. I would be happy with all these guys with our pick, I just think CB Fitzpatrick and OG Nelson have the best chance of becoming good players if not all-stars.”

Of course, which is why even last year when people were rooting for tanking it was gross and misguided. That’s why we have a loser culture, because we just willingly accept losing and even try to look for the positives in it (ugh…). It’s also entire true that all the best teams are where they are because of how they draft in rounds 3-7, so drafting 9, 12 or 17 should be irrelevant.

@bucrightoff and @couch…WOW..something I can agree on with the both of you…it really doesn’t matter if we pick 9th or 16th…players like Hargreaves, ramsey, bosa will be gone regardless…last year has taught us that we need the right players and players that can come in and contribute right away like d.smith, marpet and kwon…the best dt in the nfc south has 11sacks with no help around…he doesn’t ask players to step up…he steps up for them…now people will say,”oh, but gmc was hurt all year”, which is true but damn…im pretty sure k.short is banged up to right now too…GO BUCS!!!

There’s no moral victories here. That win won’t carry over into the next season.
A Premium Pick will. Especially one like Chubb.

  83. Seminole Bill Says:

Those of you bemoaning the week 17 win over the Saints must not have been in the stands that day. I was there, and feeling among the crowd was reminiscent of the Dungy days when the open question was not if we make the playoffs, but will we win the division.

Not to pile on but I don’t buy into the “should’ve lost to N.O. to get a better draft pick” mantra. If you miss on a top 5 prospect then you should be a bag checker at WalMart. This is where these guys are supposed to earn their money. And trading up? Dude, we STILL have more holes than Swiss cheese! You let it play out. If they are there, obviously you pick them, but if not, you start looking at the Nelsons of the world, the trenches.

Yeah LUV……….Maybe once those fans crossed that crooked bridge with their tank they should have burnt that bridge and tryed their best to forget about it.

Like I said you don’t have to be a bandwagoneer forever. You can change your crooked ways………..But I’ve been listening to fans on this site rooting for us to lose since November. Rooting for us o lose for two measly draft slots.

When you are rooting for our opponents this easily you are defientaly a bandwagoneer………..I trust that many of the diehards we lost on that balmy Sunday to the Falcons have vowed never to go back to that side and have renewed their die-hard status.

Unfortunately many others will root for us to lose at the drop of a coin apparently. They have likely always been bandwagoneers.

  91. LakeLand Says:

All prospects has potential, some has more than others. But it’s the job of the team that draft these players to develop them for the NFL. Some players will get drafted into a system that fit their skill set. Some players won’t be as lucky and will have to learn and adapt in a unfamiliar scheme.

    The bottom line:

All 32 teams draft college prospects or sign UDFAs
But some teams does a better job of developing prospects

  92. Bucsfanman Says:

LUV- What up dude! Keep droppin’ the knowledge!
Teller, the guard from VT is a little raw but might be a good late round pick.

  93. LakeLand Says:

    LUVMYBUCS

There’s a ton of gems in every draft
But I see average prospects, who can be develop into solid NFL players
The talent is there, the potential is there
But the team that draft these players has to unlock the talent
They have to develop the prospects, if the players are to reach their full potential
They have to put them in the best position to succeed
They have to coach them up to the pro level

  94. Bucsfanman Says:

^^^Yes, good point LakeLand. Coaching is key!

  95. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Here is what could happen (ed):

Chubb could be there at 7 anyway.
or..Chubb could have been gone at 5 and we would end up with the same player at 7.
Chubb could end up being a bust…..
The player we end up picking ends up being an all-pro.

It’s not necessarily where you pick in the draft….it’s who you pick.
    It’s mostly a crapshoot.

I do know this….those who felt badly that Jameis, our young QB who connected with Godwin, our promising rookie….for a touchdown against a despised division rival….well, those “fans” are very, very sad indeed.

It would be like rooting for your child to fail so that they could be in a class of younger children to compete better the next year.

Never, ever root for you team to lose…..that’s exactly what a losing culture produces.

  96. LakeLand Says:

My point is a lot of Buc fans think that if the team draft a Top-Prospect, the team will be set at that position. But it don’t work that way, there’s a process that the prospect has to go through.

    It’s call Development

  97. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @LakeLand

No doubt its the same song and dance year-In-year out.

Yeah, Wyatt Teller -is still learning the position after the switch form DT/DE.
    But the kid has talent.

  99. JimmyJack Says:

Lakeland’s got it figured. It’s all about leadership. If you got crappy leaders running your team they won’t get the potential out of their young players, or their old players or the free agents.

It’s not about needing to draft all these Uber talented players. If your leadership sucks your going to get beaten in this league. It’s why tanking for draft slots is just looking at the whole deal backwards. That’s just not what wins in this league.

We don’t have nearly as many holes as everybody wants to believe we do. By far the biggest hole on this team last year was the preparedness of this team. Until that hole gets fixed I don’t care how many super studded athletes we bring in Cause it will never work.

  100. Eric Says:

That win against the Saints was not meaningless. When your franchise QB completes a 95 yard comeback drive its worth more than draft position.

In Dungy’s first year they turned the corner after beating San Diego on the road. No playoffs came of it, but it was very important.

    Winning breeds winning.

  111. LakeLand Says:

    JimmyJack

Look at the AFC Champions NE Patriots

They always has a low or no 1st round draft pick
They always loses top players in free agency
They get underachieving players from other teams
    They coach these players up
They put them in a position to succeed
    They motivate the players

Then you have teams like Cleveland, Tampa Bay
They always get a high draft pick
They release players and the players become successful with another team

  112. 813bucboi Says:

    @realist

once again you display your stupidity for the world to see…..in that situation we were 6-10 pick #9…..we had just improved from 2-14….we were no where near a top 5 pick like we are today…..so what the hell are you talking about….

everyone knows you throw out misguided information and embarrass yourself…..remember dirk being savior…..smitty being better than lovie….

hows those 2 clowns looking for you now…..you’ve been dead wrong about this staff…..you’ve lost all credibility…..GO BUCS!!!!!!!

  113. JimmyJack Says:

Fair enough LUV……….But can you argue that we have had great leadership on this team since 2009?

I can remember several teams being called out for quitting on their coaches(several coaches). In all those years we have seen many rosters mismanaged with bad decisions and many players not be able to perform here yet go on to success elsewhere……..All of this screams horrible leadership.

I guess it boils down to how you feel about this current regime. My own opinion is this coaching staff blows and not getting enough out of their team. Sounds like your on the other side of the fence blaming lack of talent.

I’m not sure who right Or wrong but I think we can both argue that next year should be the determining factor.

im just keeping it real…..don’t be mad at me because we finished 5-11…lol…you can say you didn’t want us to lose for Winston….that makes you an outsider….”REAL FANS” are glad we took the “L” and we wouldn’t trade that lost for the world…..GO BUCS!!!!

  117. JimmyJack Says:

    @Lakeland

Did you notice how average the Pats looked when they came into Tampa at 2-2 in Sept?

Their lines on both sides of the ball were underperforming.
Notice the difference of how well they are playing now? Their Offensive line looks a bit suspect still but when they played the Jags they adjusted and fixed it in the 2nd half allowing Brady to have a shot to win the game. Good teams fix problems bad teams make excuses.

People just think we must get all this talent in Tampa to have a shot. And sure that’s a solution but coaching can make a difference too. Good coaching can always figure a way to work with what they got…….No they aren’t going to make decent players great but they will find a way to take advantage of matchups and schemes and manufacture production…….Not just leave it’s fanbase watching a horrible product begging for top tier talent as the only solution.

Something stinks in Tampa and I’m calling out this coaching staff. I guess there’s a chance they’ll figure it out…Right?

P.S…….tanking got us our leader….Winston!!!!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!

  119. Matthew Says:

Again, there are 2 or 3 Day 1 All Pro players in this draft. Quenton Nelson is a plug-n-play instant All Pro from Day 1. He will demoralize Gerald McCoy and make him either take a buyout and retire or actually man-up and be an NFL Defensive Tackle. He will immediately take a leadership role on the team and make us tougher and more physical. He fits a need and will be BPA if he’s there.

We have had really bad luck selecting DEs in the 1st round over the past 10 years but after further analyzing Chubb I am convinced that he is an Elite prospect in both pass rushing and stopping the run.

If Nelson, Barkley, and Chubb are gone you absolutely must trade back and pick up extra picks and get Davenport who is a freak of nature Aaron Donald like prospect. Or draft Orlando Brown Jr.

There’s a chance Arden Key is available early second, you have to role the dice on an LSU edge rusher. More often than not it pans out; Mingo was an outlier.

I agree TampayBayBucsFan, we faught our butts off those last 2 divisional games and that showed me something. With half our starters on IR we went wire-to-wire with both of those teams. The Hardknocks Series is a proven distraction and add on top of that the Uber distraction James dealt with and you have a perfect storm.

Ultimately, GMC93 is to blame, he has harbored a losing team ever since being here. He is a typical under-achiever and has gotten a long series of coaches fired for not leading the team. Until we rid ourselves of that cancer we will continue to top out as a 9-7 team. The only savior is Quenton Nelson so it’s put up or shut up time for GMC93.

Guys this team is a lot closer than we realize. In the NFL a 1% more “Want-to” is the difference between winning and losing. We showed some “Want-to” the last 2 games and I’m optimistic.

Licht will make the right decision. I expect Nelson, Chubb or Barkley. 🙂

  122. JimmyJack Says:

813 you can’t just up and change the definition. The definition of a fan is one who roots for his team to win. Very simple concept.

And you can deny it all you want but I was very mad when we tanked that game. In fairness I don’t follow much college ball and didn’t know much about Winston or Mariota going into that game. After the season I stated following the two and do remember feeeling my stomachs churn as I though we were going to select Mariota. Not sure if prior knowledge would have allowed my to disregard my Bucs allegiance but I’m a very faithful fellow so I would say it absolutely wouldn’t……….Anyways, it’s very low of you to try and drag my name down with the bandwagon crowd.

Regarding those who did root for the Falcons over the Bucs in that game let’s remember it’s just sports dude…….It’s not like everybody cheated on their wife. Hopefully most of them have vowed never to root against the Bucs again and have been forgiven by now. If so they have earned back their diehard status I would hope. For many other they will sell their Bucs Allegence for two draft slots…….That’s one step away from 1 draft slot. That’s a textbook bandwagon fan bro. Denial does not change definitions sorry.

Hey maybe your a diehard Gator dude or something……No reason to root for a college team to lose…..or is their?

  123. LakeLand Says:

If the Bucs draft Bradley Chubb, they still need the other players on the D-line to rise up. That was Chubb problem in college, facing a lot of double-teams. If Chubb goes to Cleveland, him and Myles Garrett will be bookends All-Pro in a year or two.

I’ve fallen in love with Nelson because of how physical he plays and want that from our offense.

But I never did think o& the impact he will have on the defense here that will see him every day.

I wanted Chubb first for obvisous reasons. Second I was torn over Barkley/Nelson but you just sold me on Nelson. I might even consider him over Chubb based on his physicality rubbing off on our defense.

  127. Buc You Says:

  129. Eric Says:

If nobody any good is at 7, why would teams sell the farm to trade up to 7?

People always say “trade down” as if its so easy.

  130. MadMax Says:

@Eric, mainly teams looking for a QB or WR, positions we wont be picking in the 1st…..thats who would trade with us.

  131. MadMax Says:

And no they wont sell the farm….possibly their 1st and 2nd, or 1st and 3rd.

  132. MadMax Says:

But if it was the patsies, trying for my 7th for Mayfield, yes, I would charge them their farm…. :evil grin:

  133. Bucs55 Says:

Drafting a Nose tackle in the top 15 would be stuped most of the nose tackles that are starters in the nfl are lower round picks and they are not played on third downs so we would basically pick up a part time player

  137. Capt.Tim Says:

Dick Koetter and Mike Smith looked at this team in Preseason
They saw A potential Linebacker corp of Lavonte David,Kwon Alexander, Kendall Beckswith, and Noah Spence.

And they said, “Nope- our true talent lies is Robert(bark, No bite) Ayers, and William( never cross the Line) Gholsten.

Dont expect any different results next year.
Its just the Glazers waiting to Fire a bunch of Coaches/Gm- that shoulda been fired this year.
Just more wasted time, for a franchise thats wasted 95% of its time in the league.

  138. NFLNut Says:

If Licht trades up for Chubb or Saquon he should be fired immediately, period. This team has far too many holes to be trading up … AND AGAIN, if Chubb is drafted I have little doubt it will be by the Colts, who have the #3 pick, so trading up to #4 would be a complete and utter waste!

  141. LakeLand Says:

Bradley Chubb will solidify his top draft spot at the combine. I don’t see John Dorsey and the Cleveland Browns passing on him twice. Especially with Myles Garrett on the other side. I expect Cleveland to pick him 1st overall. They can always get a QB later, they have the picks.

  142. Bucsfanman Says:

LUV, MadMax- Lawler looks slow to me. That and I didn’t really see him make many splash plays. I like that he doesn’t give up on plays though. Good motor.

Capt. Tim- I could not understand why so many fans were clamoring to re-sign Gholston. He should’ve had more sacks by accident! It’s almost like he went “Ghost” on us, other than celebrating tackles 3 yards downfield of course!!!

  143. StPeteBucsFan Says:

You guys who wanted to lose that N.O. game make me laugh. FIRST….there are no sure things in the draft…there is only odds. Realize what the hell you are talking about. With a 50-50 chance of success through most of the first round those odds get longer as you drop in the draft. But three spots making the difference between winning and losing is just absurd.

Bobby Beathard reached the SB SEVEN times as a GM winning four of them. I suspect he knew what he was doing. He was a big proponent of dropping to gain more picks feeling that the number of picks given the failure rate was better than placing all your chips on one pick.

BTW…the so called “Trade Value Chart” is also bogus.a result of the draft where the Cowboys had a gazillion picks in 91 and were desperate to justify the picks.

    How about a little research.

    https://www.scoutingacademy.com/The-Source/SourceID/10/NFL-Draft-Strategy

Despite its widespread use, the Trade Value Chart has proven to be inaccurate and unreliable. Cade Massey of Duke University and Richard Thaler of the University of Chicago compared the value Clubs placed on certain Draft positions – based on what the Club gave up to get to that position – with the actual performance of the players drafted at that position.

The research indicated that Clubs erroneously discount future picks and overvalue early picks. The Trade Value Chart claims that the top overall pick is 3,000 points and the first pick of the second round is only worth 580 – meaning you would need at least five picks at the top of the second round to be able to trade for the first overall pick. This is clearly wrong. The first overall pick is, on average, not even twice as good as the first pick of the second round. These types of errors permeated the Trade Value Chart, indicating that GMs must ensure that their Draft day decisions are based in reliable analysis.

I haven’t heard a word about the Giants trying to trade for Jameis and it would take Eli, JPP and the #2 overall (not a second round pick) for the Bucs to even listen to the offer … if it’s just a 2nd rounder, Licht laughs and then slams down the phone.

HOWEVER, if you mistyped and meant Eli + JPP + #2 overall for Jameis … hmmm … that would be interesting as the Bucs could then take Chubb at #2 and one of Rosen/Darnold(aka White Jameis)/Allen/Mayfield at #4 plus have a stud DE in JPP to pair with Chubb … that would be a “quick fix” for the Bucs provided the rookie QB pans out.

Ya’ll know I’m a Jameis guy much more so than a Bucs guy … the only reason I follow the Bucs is because Jameis happens to be their QB and I gotta say, I wouldn’t hate this for Jameis, though if he is traded I’d prefer to see him to go the AFC as it’s a much weaker conference and as soon as Brady’s done, it’s ripe for the taking,

Regardless, I’m calling BS on this “report out of NY” that doesn’t seem to even exist.

    Not round 1-4. I meant Pick 1-4.

  150. NFLNut Says:

    Lakeland,

I would be SHOCKED to see the Browns take Chubb at #4, let alone #1.

I think they go Saquon (the real “best prospect in the draft”) at #1 and Josh Allen at #4.

I think they’d take Minkah over Chubb at #4 as well … I just don’t see it.

To me, Chubb is either going #3 to the Colts or #7 to the Bucs, period.

  151. LakeLand Says:

I don’t see John Dorsey passing on Bradley Chubb twice. There’s not another player in this draft worth passing him up over.

  152. LakeLand Says:

Bradley Chubb stock will rise at the combines. I think he will separate himself from the rest. Like Myles Garrett did last season.

  153. 813bucboi Says:

    jimmy

I rooted for them to win the first 15weeks of the season….but im not a fan because I wanted a higher pick in the draft that would help our team win in the future?…..

    BS…LOL…

glad “REAL FANS” agree with me….

your stomach will be churning once we reach for a player round1…..your part of the bandwagoners/moral victories crowd…..so sad….GO BUCS!!!!

  154. LakeLand Says:

    NFLNut,

If I have $111 Million in cap space like the Browns. I’m going BPA with my draft picks and add veterans. It don’t make sense for John Dorsey to draft a RB and DB over Bradley Chubb. The only way I can see this happen, Chubb has to have a bad combine. I don’t see that happen either, his measurements and agility will be off the charts.

  155. 813bucboi Says:

    NUT

Idk….chubb and garrett together sound too good to pass up…..

I think they go chubb #1 and barkley #4….get cousins or alex smith in FA….whoever doesn’t go to the browns goes to the bills….

but I hope your right and he falls to us at #7….GO BUCS!!!!

  156. Rod Munch Says:

If there is still one of the QB’s on the board when the Bucs pick then someone will most likely want them and will most likely try to trade up. Arizona and Buffalo are the two obvious teams that come to mind, but who knows what happens in free agency. On Chubb he seems to be a late season riser, we’ll see once we get to the combine how things play out and who shoots up the boards. If I was the Bucs and Chubb was off the board, which is most likely at this point, I’d try to trade down unless Fitzpatrick just has an insane combine and is still there. General rule of thumb, which I completely believe in, you always take the defensive lineman in the top 10 unless the DB is a special talent, meaning they put up truly elite combine numbers. The Bucs need corners, with an S, and defensive linemen, as in more than one – plus the Bucs need depth at every position on defense except LB.

  157. LakeLand Says:

When you have $111 Million in cap space, a lot of talent young players on your roster. And you throw in these draft picks.

    1st Pick Round 1
    4th Pick Round 1
    33rd Pick Round 2
    35th Pick Round 2
    65th Pick Round 3

John Dorsey has the ball in his hands
And he know what to do with it
It don’t make sense to reach for a player

  158. Rod Munch Says:

I was rooting for the Bucs to lose that game against New Orleans as well, because going from 5th to 7th was a huge drop in terms of trade value. Denver and the Jets, both teams that would have been behind the Bucs, they both need QBs and teams wanting to trade up to get a QB would want in front of them – thus the Bucs might have got an incredible trade package to move down – like way above the nonsense that is the point value trade chart. I was hoping Winston would take them into FG range to win the game, then the kicker shanks it – so Winston did his job only to be let down by Dirk playing for FGs and to be let down by the kicker, who I doubt is here next year anyways. But Winston ignored Dirk playing for the FG and went out there and threw that great game winning pass – yeah I loved it in the minute, but hated that it probably cost the Bucs an extra 1st round pick.

  159. GhostofSchiano Says:

I would be happy with Nelson, pair him alongside Marpet and hopefully have at least one running lane.

  160. LakeLand Says:

Maybe Bradley Chubb 1st, then a QB with the 4th. Or vice versa, a QB 1st and Chubb 4th.

  161. JimmyJack Says:

Hahaha 813. A bit sensitive today? I realize you are in denial about your badwagonhood but your pee-wee Herman rebuttal of “I know you are but what am I” is very unnessary.

Its not about moral victories with us die hard s. It’s about staying on our ship and defending it no matter what the cost. See our version of the tank is how Brad Pitt saw his tank on that one war movie.

Was it hard to cheer on the Bucs in week 17? You’re danged right it was. But us diehards remain loyal. We will never turn our backs on our team and hope for the Saints to beat us.

That was your choice my man. You must live with the fate of it. Am I a bit touched in the head? Yeah, yeH I probably am. Most of us diehards probably are………I don’t remember the name of that show but I do remember Brad Pitt met his fate in that tank. So you go run away like he had suggested. It is the smartest choice. But I choose to die in that tank, or ship if you will. It’s for the greater good….it’s alright I don’t expect you to understand.

  162. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Jimmyjack

Its cause I put his BS on blast today!!!!

Reporter ask: Mr. Realist, what’s it like to catch 813bucbroccoli in a lie????

The Buc Realist says: It is really nothing, It is like junk mail the comes everyday and you just throw it out!! But today I actually looked at itl!!!!!!

Fix the “real” problems, the “trenches”!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!

  163. MadMax Says:

Saw a mock with Cleveland picking QB 1st then Orlando Brown as their 2nd pick at #4….makes sense.

I still feel that one of the 4 top prospects (for us) will fall to us (Chubb, Nelson, Fitz, Barkley).

  164. Brett Says:

    Trade DeShaun Jackson.

  165. Pick6 Says:

losing to gain an unknowable potential benefit in the longer term doesn’t just make you a loser, it makes you a loser with no self-esteem. I get not going all out when you are right on the brink of a #1 pick and know what is waiting for you in the draft, but once you get outside the top 2 you pretty much have no control over who you will be picking amongst.

the gaines adams pick obviously sticks out to me as a “losing by winning” moment, but it wasn’t a meaningless win that did us in, it was picking gaines adams instead of one of the 6 pro bowlers (including HOF hopefuls like peterson, revis, and 6x all pro partrick willis) taken in the next 10 picks. That same year Oakland at #1 botched their pick completely – good thing they lost enough games for that privelege
