GMC To Talib: Come “Home”

January 27th, 2018

Wanted.

The selling has begun.

Since the regular season ended, Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has made no secret that the Bucs need to upgrade the defense for the team to have a prayer of competing in the rugged NFC South.

And GMC has not been bashful about who he wants: Michael Bennett and granny-hassling, cabbie-punching, helmet-wielding, gun-totin’ Aqib Talib.

Both players spent their formative NFL years with the Bucs. Bennett was cut by Seattle as an undrafted free agent and claimed on waivers by the Bucs in 2009, before someone or some folks at One Buc Palace lost their damn minds and let him walk away for no good reason.

Talib was a first round draft pick the previous season. Wild and undisciplined, the Bucs grew tired of his constant antics believing his play on the field didn’t match his play off the field.

Both players became Pro Bowlers and won rings for their respective teams after they left the Bucs.

Also, Bennett and Talib are in the Pro Bowl being held in Orlando this week. And when the official Denver Broncos Twitter account posted something about a play Talib made in practice this week, GMC used that as a way to woo Talib back to Tampa Bay.

@Geraldini93: Don’t let them hype you up. Come on home!!

Bennett and Talib are still under contract with their teams. However, both have stated on the record since the regular season ended that they believe they will be salary cap casualties.

Of course, Joe wants these two back. To hell with their age and supposed baggage. If these two were the cancers some folk claim, then how the hell did they win rings?

What, you prefer Ryan Russell and Ryan Smith starting for the Bucs in 2018 instead?

Come collect your last tax free NFL paychecks with your buddy GMC and sail off into the sunset.

  2. FortMyersDave Says:

Bennett yes. The DL needs any help what so ever! Talib? Well, if I were a producer on the show “Cops” I think I would divert a week or 2 of following deputies in Fort Myers, Bradenton or East Hillsborough go after the usual assortment of drug addicts, prostitutes, drunk drivers, wife beating rednecks, typical trailer trash and prison “projects” from the 40th street projects and follow that Talib guy as he would make for one heck of a ratings spike when he does something idiotic again, not a matter of if but when….

  3. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    See

Mr Softie aka GMC sees how bad our CB situation is to see a fool/idiot come to Tampa

  4. tmaxcon Says:

Gmc should go back home yo Oklahomo that will instantly make bucs better. End the losing culture mr licht eradicate cancer93

Thats a weird comment man. Gota put yourself into the guys shoes first off. He was young and a multimillionaire. Thought he was invincible, like the rest of us at that age. He messed up of course but when ya get older u get wiser. Glad Im not judged off the dumb stuff i did at that age. Id be unemployed and homeless. And if i had that money at that age Id be gonzo. We need football players not choir boys. I personally dont think its worth picking up a high priced corner if mike smiths around but a pro bowler can never hurt. Not many corners can play at 15 yards off a receiver with no pass rush. They need to start throwing money at any and all linemen tho asap.

  6. Architek Says:

Why not, nothing else has worked!

  7. FortMyersDave Says:

darin, my point is that I doubt if he will contribute anything besides negative headlines and the Bucs have enough of those. As for linemen I think we are on the same page though…..

  8. BrianBucs Says:

Maybe Jameis could introduce Talib to some Uber drivers to sucker punch

  9. The Buc Realist Says:

This is what Joe want so the Bucs will then take the RB in round 1!!!!! The question is, how many first round draft picks does the offense need????? Is suggesting that the offense needs the most first rounders to drag JW3 to the playoffs??????? The defense needs young, fast talent, not band-aid after band-aid!!!!!!!!!! what defense has been so patched up, and gets the oldest in the division that work??????

    Terrible plan!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!

  10. tmaxcon Says:

I’d rather have team full of winners like talib and Sapp than choirboy career losers like cancer93

  11. BrianBucs Says:

Im not crazy about having a team full of choirboys, but these two guys are a couple of turds

  12. doug Says:

TRADE 93!!!!!!!!! I’M OVER THIS GUY.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

@tmaxcon … “I’d rather have team full of winners like talib and Sapp than choirboy career losers like cancer93.” Spoken like a true tmaxcon. Oh wait, it IS the real tmaxcon.

Let me try to add little perspective to your comment about Sapp being a ‘winner’ tmaxcon. Sapp was great while with the Bucs because the defense around him was great. He went to Oakland in 2004 & played there for 4 years. Their record during that time you ask? 2004: 5-11. 2005: 4-12. 2006: 2-14. 2007: 4-12. That’s a 4-year record of 15-49. I’m impressed … NOT. Point being: it’s the T-E-A-M that makes all the difference. BTW, Talib played on a much better T-E-A-M … until this past year when Denver fell to 5-11. Sound familiar?

  14. Bucssuccs Says:

No thanks. I don’t want gun-toting, gold chain snatching, Aqib Talib on our team. I want a younger player with some passion and fire not some guy looking for a retirement check

  15. Easy Says:

If Talib comes at the right price then I’m all for it. He’s light years ahead of any corners we have on the roster right now. (Aside from Grimes)

  16. dmatt Says:

Yep, that’s what they prefer…the likes of Ryan Russell, Will Clarke, n Ryan Smith just like they preferred Michael Johnson,Jaqueis Smith, n George Johnson. Over the years,we’ve had the same opportunity to bring in top tier FA playmakers but for some reason rather settle for less, despite of the money we have available. We’ve become accustomed to dance to garbage in,garbage out.

  17. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

I say yes to both. They may not be choir boys, but we NEED some attitude on this defense.

  18. Hodad Says:

McCoy is as delusional as most fans thinking you can bring former players back, and have better results. Both Bennett, Talib, and McCoy for that matter are on their last NFL legs. We need the next great D.E., D.B., D.T., not has beens. You know what made Talib great? Having Von Miller. Bennett having great coaching, with great players around him. We don’t have any of that here. McCoy is a crying clown who’d we better off without. Hate Tmax all you want, but he’s right about the career loser. Ship McCoy to Denver, or Seattle, and we would become better.

  19. The Buc Realist Says:

I love that Joe thinks that bringing back coaches after one bad season is “insanity” But building around GMC for a 9th year to make a great defensive line is not insanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The guy dances around as the captain, in front of the hardknocks camera’s all training camp and pre-season, Then at the end of the year, says they need to be more serious and professional!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the d-line would be average if there was no gmc and just a group that that was professional!!!!!!!!!!!

trade captain media for draft picks and build a “real” D-line!!!!!!!!!!! Why get GMC help when it takes 5-6 players, when we can trade GMC and get 3 players and have a better defense by turning into a 3-4 base!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Jason Says:

As a loyal reader, lifelong Buccaneers fan, and 10 year law-enforcement veteran, I absolutely don’t want these knuckleheads representing our football team. Especially Michael Bennett. No thanks! 👎🏼👎🏼

  21. DoNUTS Says:

I like GMC but this is not gonna happen; both players are on the wrong side of 30. The game always passes by when father time arrives. On the flip side, both guys are better than any of the current talent (*Grimes>Talib IMO).

GMC needs to realize that most of the NFL players are playing to play in the playoffs not the meaningless Disney production called the Pro Bowl. I think he really believes that making Pro Bowls means something other than its reality of a NFL popularity contest. GMC is a very good DT but I think the time is now to trade him for the future. Winston is still 2-3 years away anyway from having the ability to control the game with his play. I like the irony that Buc fans will have the WAIT 5 years for their franchise QB to become a franchise QB. I hope its worth the wait at the end. Go Bucs.

  22. Bucsfan951 Says:

Tmaxi… did you make the call yet?

  23. Rrsrq Says:

GMC has been to the prow bowl 6 straight years and sees the guys who were once wearing the pewter and found success on other teams, he just wants to finish what they started., not mad at all, you mix those guys in with the young talent, who knows…

  24. Pickgrin Says:

    Why would Seattle drop Bennett??

It would cost them $5.2M in dead cap $ to cut him – and they only save $3M in the process.

Where are they going to find a player to replace Bennett’s 8.5 sacks worth of production for only $3M???

    Highly unlikely IMO.

Talib is overpaid – so likely will be released.

I’d take a run at acquiring Aquib – but would not go any higher than 2 years – $15M w/ 1/2 guaranteed in 2018. (which probably won’t be enough).

Talib is worth having at the right price for a year or 2. But at 32, he’s probably not worth overpaying for.

  25. LakeLand Says:

No one want to come to this High School team.

  26. Not there yet Says:

I would like them both to come back but just makes us look desperate not that GMC cares. Is he resting Denver news feed to be able to tweet that out. I guess I just like the way the bucs defense was built back in the day. A general manager that was bold enough to draft Brooks then tease up and get Warren Sapp, we’re not loving those type of days anymore. Last time it happened we got Doug but that seems like forever ago. Oh well hope glazers are scouting a coach/gm combo

  27. firethecannons Says:

Dude would be an improvement over the VH3/ryan smith combo
we cannot draft a corner as we have virtually no way to coach them up.
the player has to be immediately nfl ready or they will be ruined by Bucs bungling coaching methods

  28. Lamarcus Says:

When u are trying to get more production from your employees the last thing u want is to hire their friends.

I agree and change my mind about Bennett tho. If he is released we should get him

But of course GMC vouches for his buddies. Not guys like Vernon, Campbell, Malik Jackson ,Aj bouye when they were available. Why cuz they are better than him?

  29. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Darin

Excellent point about Talib. I was happy to run him off. But perhaps that tour in Belechik’s group forced him to mature. I haven’t really read bad stuff about him since he went to N.E. As you suggest perhaps he just needed to mature.

Pacman Jones is a cancer who would scare me. He never stopped creating headlines.

It’s America…we love stories of redemption…IF the person has truly changed.

  30. Rod Munch Says:

Bennett is a pro-cop killing anti-American piece of trash who should eat an HIV sandwich. No way the Glazers bring that American hating bag of s back to Tampa, not unless the Glazers want to tank attendance even more in order to get the relocation talk started.

  31. Rod Munch Says:

Joe, your Talib description, the guy was literally firing at a convicted sex offender who was violating a restraining order – if there is any reason to have and use a gun, that is certainly one of them. Sure the guy seems like a real jerk off most of the time, but come on, add hero to the description – he’s doing the job every American male should do, protecting his family.

  32. NFLNut Says:

^ Wow Rod, tell em how you really feel.

In other news … the Donald’s Davos speech was awesome … I don’t see how any actual American could root against the guy … crazy.

  33. Duke Says:

    Lakeland,

I believe that you owe both Kathleen and Lakeland High school an apology
What you said is down right offensive to those fine programs.

  34. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Talib and Bennett are certified bad asses, something IMHO that Tampa needs badly.
I wish I had Talib last weekend, when I got a terrible UBER driver, who sure could have used a slap in the head attitude adjustment.

  35. tnew Says:

Thanks Pick… thought I was going to be forced to bring up the business rational behind Bennett yet again. The bottom line:

Bennett is floating this idea because he wants one more payday. A nice signing bonus and he saw the Calais Campbell money and figures that he can get 12 -13 a year if released.

  36. El_Buc941 Says:

People take GMC for granted….I wouldn’t be surprised if when his contract is up he decided to go elsewhere like Carolina or Oakland.

  37. James Walker Says:

Introducing next years Albert Haynesworth, Eric Wright, Ghost Johnson, and Shabby.

  38. Joe Says:

But perhaps that tour in Belechik’s group forced him to mature.

Pretty much what he told Joe a few years ago.

  39. teacherman777 Says:

They are at the Pro Bowl!

They are both still great football players!

Grimes and Talib could be a great duo!

Bennett is far better than all of current DE’s!!!

    Facts!

  40. BigHogHaynes Says:

TrumpMaxCon: STAY ON THE BLACK…TAKE A KNEE…KEEP AMERICA FREE….let’s not MAKE AMERICA WHITE AGAIN!!

  41. BigHogHaynes Says:

El_Buc941: and win a Championship and continue to play at PRO BOWL LEVEL!! There is a lot of fraud around here!!

  42. feelthepewterpower Says:

Sounds like Grimes isn’t going to be back if McCoy is courting Talib.

  43. Rod Munch Says:

feelthepewterpower – Have you looked at the Bucs depth chart at corner? They need a lot more than one corner on the team. Even if VH3 returned to form he’s still, at this point, ideally a nickleback. Talib would be a great short term addition, and the Bucs have the cap space to make it happen. Until Winston gets paid in a couple of years the Bucs have an extra $15-million to play that they should put into short term front loaded contracts.

  44. LakeLand Says:

    Lol Duke

  45. Tbbucs3 Says:

Ryen Russel is our best defensive end………

  46. Nate Says:

Haha…..spot on Joe, your closing remarks….nuff said

  47. Season Is Over Says:

Of course this website wants these two back. The irony of calling for old free agents after complaining about Gruden doing the same is comical. I would suggest that the team do the exact opposite of whatever McCoy and this website says. Imagine if the team drafted Johnny Football.

  48. The Anomaly Says:

    31?

Let’s become the NFL retirement/nursing home.
