Cut By Bucs, Playing In Super Bowl

January 31st, 2018

One win from Super bling.

What is it about guys the Bucs turn loose winding up with better opportunities?

That is the case with wide receiver and return specialist Bernard Reedy. The St. Petersburg native wasn’t awful for the Bucs but the team released him after nine games this season to make room for Freddie Martino.

Typical Bucs luck, a player released winds up in the Super Bowl for another team.

Joe caught up with Reedy at Super Bowl Opening Night Monday to discuss his fortune with New England.

Reedy was actually cut twice by the Patriots this season and spent time on their practice squad. On Jan. 17, Reedy was re-signed to the 53-man roster and is on the cusp of having the ultimate NFL bling.

“It has been surreal and just a real fortunate situation,” said Reedy, who in the offseason transports folks in wheelchairs to their medical appointments.

When Hurricane Irma hit, Reedy was called back into duty to help folks in need get to safe shelter.

“I feel so blessed,” Reedy said. “Words cannot describe it. All the stuff I went through — I mean, people go through stuff every day. I am a tough person. So it was nothing I couldn’t get through.”

Joe asked Reedy if there is something the Patriots do as an organization he would tell his friends on the Bucs to do in order to turn around their losing ways. Reedy didn’t want to spill the apple cart.

Joe also asked Reedy if Tampa Bay being featured on “Hard Knocks,” along with losing a bye week thanks to Hurricane Irma and many evacuating in Hurricane Irma’s path, led to a lost season.

Reedy wasn’t going there.

“Nah!” Reedy scoffed.

Despite moving on to a new team and preparing to play in a Super Bowl, Reedy said he still gets texts from his former Bucs teammates wishing him well.

“Oh, yeah! They’re my buddies.”

  3. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

This is a person who deserves good things to happen to him. Very happy he is getting this opportunity. He may not want to spill the beans now (understandable) but when the Pats inevitably cut him the Bucs better bring that boy back and get him talking!

  4. Sweeptheleg Says:

The only way the Bucs have a chance in this division is if the other 3 qb’s retire.

We have the 4 th best QB right now. (Or 4th best TEAM. How ever you wanna spin it)

Next year will be more of the same.

    6-10. Maybe 7-9

Winning a ring doesn’t make you a star player….it simply means you were fortunate enough to play for a winning team…..sometimes it’s simply pure luck.
Sure there are many stars on SB teams….but not every player….it’s a team accomplishment, not necessarily personal.

I think Reedy may have been one of those future Insurance Adjusters or UPS Truck Drivers we usually hear about.

I wish this kid well. Sometimes change can..work in your favor If you just stay positive and maintain that work ethic. Kid just keeps persuing his dream and improving. Good Luck!

  17. Howard Cosell Says:

When kids live in a dysfunctional home with parents who dont care (Glazers) they tend to underachieve and get in trouble. Conversely, when they go to a good home with caring parents (Belicheat and Kraft) they tend to blossom to their full potential.

    Well…that solves that mystery

Bernard Reedy played his heart out, showed some upside.
    He contributed.

    Martino?

When they cut Reedy, I posted here that it “was another F**king stupid move by this Team.”

Id Like yo amend that statement to” it was Anothing F**king stupid move, by this F**king stupid team!”
I hope Reedy wins that Ring, then comes back and Slaps Koetter/Licht in the mouth with it.
