Steal Of The Draft?

December 1st, 2017

Monster.

Since it is still the regular season and there are still games to be played, Joe hasn’t had the time to study how the 2017 draft has worked out for other teams. Bigger fish to fry right now.

But as far as Joe is concerned, it is hard to find a better theft than selecting Kendell Beckwith with the final pick of the third round. One could argue rookie Beckwith may already be the second-best linebacker the Bucs have, based on his play, though you can’t go wrong with selecting any of the three starting Bucs linebackers.

Ben Fennell is a producer for NFL Network and he noted recently how Beckwith jumps off the tape when he researches Bucs games.

@BenFennell_NFL: Kendall Beckwith – just over a year removed from his ACL injury… Has played 603 snaps on defense – only Gerald McCoy has play more (640) for Tampa Bay. A steal for a 3rd round pick…

That is amazing that a rookie would have the second-most defensive snaps on the team. What a piece of thievery by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.

Joe has a good hunch this guy’s going to tear up NFL offenses for quite a while.

Now if the Bucs can get coaches to put all of this talent on the same page and get some wins!

Sorry Gruden Gang, Facts not Feelings

Nah I’m gonna say steal of the draft has got to be either Kareem Hunt or Alvin Kamara.

Beckwith has been solid tho. If we bring the right Coaching staff in here to develop him, I have an inclination to believe he can become a Terrell Suggs or or Lawerence Timmons kind of an outside linebacker/ pass rusher hybrid.

@Joe … “only Gerald McCoy has play more (640) for Tampa Bay.” Wonder what it says when your key defensive LINEMAN plays more defensive downs than anyone else on the defense. My guess is the picture isn’t pretty. (all yours tmaxcon)

Eyah. Get this kid on the field and maybe back to middle

    Lavonte still their best defender

3rd Round |#107 Pick – ILB Kendell Beckwith Leads All Rookies w/46 Tackles

    But

    4th Round | #116 Pick – DE/OLB Carl Lawson Leads All Rookies W/*7 Sacks

And that what confused many of during the draft.
We needed a passrusher but we opted for a linebacker – recovering from injury.
By some miracle the kid healed up – and for the most part- has had a banner year.

But Inability to address a position of need again.
Passing up on another quality passrushing prospect.

    2016 – Yannick Ngakoue
    2017 – Carl Lawson

Unfortunately will cost Licht his Job in 2018.

I love all of our rookies. They are contributing and at times, acting as starters. People forget we also have Big Stevie T waiting to come back next year. Maybe, just maybe, he will let us forget Chris Baker.

Howard, Evans, Godwin, and Beckwith have all made the highlight reals and taken their turns as starters. Fingers crossed on Stevie T adding to that. I believe, this draft class will keep Litch around a couple more years. Sure, Litch has made some dud decisions, but he has brought in a lot of talent compared to Dominick, and for that matter, Gruden.

If only we could get a steal in a Defensive Coordinator.

All 3 of our LBs have been considered incredible bargains for where we got them in their respective drafts. Whoever is looking at LBs in the Bucs’ scouting department has definitely earned their salary and then some.

The draft does not work like that. You draft based on your rating system. Kendall beckwith was a 2nd round talent that had an injury which caused his fall. Lawson was a 4th round prospect. The bucs moved up to the last pick in the third round and pick beckwith. That was obviously great value for a 2nd round talent. You cant play the would have should have game. Not many 4th round de turn out to be studs especially in the first year. You second guessing the beckwith pick in favor for lawson is the very definition of arm chair gm and it is not a good look for you. Btw..he has 54 tackles.

  14. Brandon Says:

He’s been pretty good but it would hard to prove that ANY Buccaneer player has been a true difference maker this season.

Just like Beckwith – Lawson was actually graded as late 1st to early 2nd round pick.
Injury concerns pushed him off of many GM’s boards
Coupled w/ being a tweener – knocked him down a few rounds.
