Odd Moral Victory Vibe

December 19th, 2017

Proud

Joe really had a weird feeling in and around the Bucs’ postgame locker room.

A lot of players after the 24-21 loss to the Falcons were feeling an awful lot of pride in the fight of their teammates.

Injury after Bucs injury after injury came down in the game, and the Bucs battled until the end and had a chance to win or tie. Backs against the wall, they got a stop, a good punt return and drove the ball down the field. An official slipping cost them a valuable four seconds and Patrick Murray missed a potential game-tying, 54-yard field goal.

Game over.

Chris Baker, Jameis Winston. Cameron Brate and others admired the grit in their team.

That’s great. And Joe likes the fight in the Bucs, but it really felt like the team was thinking moral victory, versus rage after a somewhat embarrassing loss at home on Monday Night Football with the Falcons running the ball down their throat for 200 yards.

Joe supposes it doesn’t matter how the team reacts after a loss. The only thing that matters is how it performs on the field. But the whole thing just felt a little odd for a 4-10 team that only put up seven points in the first half, which is one point off their woeful season average.

Dirk Koetter said after the game that if the Bucs keep grinding like they did last night, the wins will come.

Joe agrees, but it takes a lot more than grinding to compete in the NFC South, which the Bucs are not doing.

Ease up joe we’re 4-10 think of it like this we secured our draft spot and played tough enough to get respect from the national audience after a hard fought loss it feels like a win win to me

  2. Season Is Over Says:

We have Brady/Manning combined with Marino. What is everyone worried about?

  3. Lamarcus Says:

Well, yeah Joe. A little happy? Me too. With those other.prime time games the standard embarrassing blowout didn’t happen and some of fans seem “fight”. I wanted the win but the way we lost was miss fg by Patrick Murray. We are not done. We are not numb. I think we play hard but obviously not talented enough to keep up.

  4. DB55 Says:

Did you see anybody hugging and kissing Matt Ryan? Alright then dam.

News flash they gave up 200 rushing to GB and 150 to ATL last time they played.

  5. DB55 Says:

And they given up at least 150 yards rushing in 6 games this year. Just for clarification. #16million

  6. Kansas95Buc Says:

I liked seeing my team fight tonight. I thought we should’ve went for the touchdown #ThatsMyQB

  7. Pittbucfan Says:

F@#k moral victories. Only get us a higher draft pick. Which seems we all as Buc fans fans clamour for this time of year.

  8. LifeOfABucFan Says:

They played hard..indeed they did..seems that getting our HOF’ers watching the game tonight maybe fuled them up..

  9. teacherman777 Says:

Without GMC, we suck even worse!

    DB55 and Tmaxipad

You guys are typical American Idiots!!!

    Gerald needs help next year!!

    Please!!

    Please!!!!

  10. firethecannons Says:

    @Herbiebuc

feel the same, proud of the Bucs, not embarassed, damn good to see Jameis play lights out, everybody was watching. Still in line early for draft.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The consolation prize for losing is a better draft pick……the poll and my gut tell me most true Buc fans really want to win. If you weren’t rooting for that Murray FG to be good last night then you are truly not a fan.

If you think we played better without GMC you may be a fan but you are blinded by your feelings and are just simply wrong.

  12. Gobucs Says:

Hey everybody we’re the Bucs and we play for moral victories cause we suck so bad.

  13. Greg Says:

They lost…and they will lose the next 2 games…only losers feel good about that..

The team knows dirk is headed out. Thats the only way a moral victory happens. Chew on that game jameis haters. Good gameplan by dirk. We see dirk can adjust game to game after playing a division opponent earlier in year. Great. Too bad he cant gameplan for the first meeting. Too bad when they play a division opponent well the first time, the other team comes back with a different plan and dirk doesnt. All this and they still lost. Dirk and smith finally adjust, jameis plays well and they lose. Time for coaches to go. Also with all the backups playing well it looked to me like the backups are more prepared than the starters. To me thats on dirks patty cake camp. Trying to keep starters healthy is what started this mess. Im not big on gruden back here but after every week Im coming around more and more.

A moral victory but in the grand scheme of things, just another L though it did keep them at #7 in the current draft pecking order ahead of Cincy, Denver and the Jets who all have far worse SOS than Tampa as do 2 of the other 4-10 teams (Houston, Denver) while Da Bears actually have one of the best SOS in the league along with Tampa. Bears still play the Browns (likely spot of the Browns to get their 1 W of 2017, Houston plays the 3-11 Dolts while SF plays the Rams and Jags) so the Bucs could slip by Chicago and Houston to pick 5th. Chubb anyone????? They tried to win for Dirk and could not do it, too bad Dirk did not call better games when it counted vs Arizona, New England, Buffalo and Green Bay; 4 winnable games that probably cost him his job….

  16. FortMyersDave Says:

Typo: Denver 5-9; Niners 4-10 but still Bucs now picking 7th and that should be 6th if the Bears can keep the Browns winless at home and 5th if the Texans can beat Indy while the Bucs probably get boat raced in Carolina and lose to New Orleans as the Saints probably will need the W for seeding purposes….. 5th to 7th overall should get a tough DE or perhaps a trade down with someone desperate for a QB such as Denver or the Jets who probably will be picking in the top 10 but one might want to leap frog the other if the board plays out right and allows the Bucs to move down a few slots and get a good return….

  17. Jarod Lauderdale Says:

This defence & play calling is atrocious !

  18. DB55 Says:

Wow never seen a group of haters so large. And 777 you know you done fu right?

  19. JimBuc2 Says:

Team showed a lot of grit and depth. Next man up got the team in position to challenge last year’s SB team. That so many backups were available is testament to Jason Licht’s acumen. I don’t see Koetter getting canned because I think the Glazers are beginning to understand that their hair trigger approach has made Tampa a less attractive coaching destination and there is value in continuity. Mike Smith, not so much. I hope they can pry Patricia away from New England. Think he would step up and get rid of loafers and check cashers. Licht will bring a defensive focus to 2018 draft. Finally, I would anticipate that Dirk Koetter rethinks that soft training camp approach; look for some tough two a days with gassers and as much hitting as the CBA allows. Couldn’t help but notice more first down passing and it sure was sweet to see Jameis hit a long ball as well as better ball security on his part. Bet it will be a long time before Peyton Barber fumbles again. Overall, a rotten season with plenty of blame to spread around, but look hard enough and you’ll see some promising developments. I admit I thought about turning my back on this team, but I won’t go there. Love my Bucs, they played hard and competed to the very end. That I can be proud of.

  20. Bucsfanman Says:

THERE ARE NO MORAL VICTORIES IN FOOTBALL!
    Stop the nonsense!

  21. not there yet Says:

Uh sorry koetter your like 5 months too late, the grinding Starts in the off-season and training camp not when you have nothing to play for, it’s your fault it took so long, this was the best team game of the season even in a loss, replace you and Mike Smith and we’ll be a playoff team

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

My fellow Buc fans Just settle for anything..Moral victories, Great QB performances, Nicely thrown spiraks in the air…..and DEFEATS!! I could care less than 2 thirds of a good got Deeyham about how great Jameis played last night. WE LOST. National respect My A.s!!!So go right ahead and get yourselves a prime running back with that 1st pick. And continue to see our Bucs score 30, and the opposition score 31.

  23. Cobraboy Says:

    Moral victories are for losers.

  24. JimBuc2 Says:

Note to all those naysayers: If your stones are that damn big put on some pads on and prove it. Talk is cheap, put on a helmet and show us something, otherwise go back to those long hot showers!
