“It Was Peyton’s Turn”

December 10th, 2017

Jobbed today.

Joe has already typed how it was nonsensical to start floundering Doug Martin at running back today.

That is, unless the Bucs really are tanking for a better draft pick. If that is the case, kudos, Dirk Koetter!

After the game, Koetter was asked why he started Peyton Barber to open the second half and not stick with the anointed Martin.

“It was Peyton’s turn to start the second half,” Koetter said.

That’s one way of putting it.

Damnit, it was Barber’s turn to start the whole friggin’ game, not just the second half. This just in: Doug Martin is done. Take away his longest run of seven yards, and Martin ran for 19 yards on 9 carries. That’s two yards a carry.

C’mon!

Yeah, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, coughed away this game today. But Koetter did him no favors starting a washed up running back. It’s noble of Koetter, to a degree, to keep trying to jump-start Martin. But we are three weeks from 2018. The 2015 season is distant in the rear-view mirror.

The way Martin has played the past two calendar years, the only thing he needs help jump-starting is filling out his retirement papers.

martin will need an entertaining relapse to qualify for a 30 for 30. right now the career highlights would not qualify for a 30 second piece… the gerbil should have been let go two years ago.

  2. Lamarcus Says:

I want to be literally carrying a stick cane after this year…..for stealing

  3. Lamarcus Says:

I have no confidence in dm or any other vet on this team.

  4. Lakeland Says:

Doug Martin is set for life, off the Bucs money like VJAX when he retired.

  5. Roy T. Buford Says:

Martin and the Bucs both needed a shot to work with Martin being healthy. It was mutual. They need Martin as much as Martin needs them. So it made sense to start him today and play Barber also…same conditions, behind same O line, against same team to remove any question about who shoud start going forward. Each getting about the same type of reps. However, the feature back for the Bucs is not on this roster right now. Barber’s a keeper for backup moving forward, and all can sleep at night, even the Martin supporters beyond the others…to let him walk in a few weeks. This is Barber’s chance to audition for next year hence forth…as the #2 back. I’m betting that’s it for who is back next year. I like Quizz, but at #3 he’d have to play special teams and don’t think he’d hold up.

  6. tmaxcon Says:

    Lakeland

not if he makes bad life style choices… much richer stars than his sorry arse has blown much bigger fortunes… l

  7. JonBuc Says:

This proves it’s time for Koetter to call it a career and retire back in Idaho. He can say he was an NFL coach and be a hero at golf tournaments and Friday night high school football games. The stage was too big for him. As a parting gift…he gets the oil painting from the band formerly known as The Stick Carriers. It’s much like the Kramer painting for you Seinfeld fans out there.

  8. Crazed Fan Says:

Peyton Barber is ok. He isn’t Adrian Peterson. I still like Rodgers, but we need to draft running back and let’s all get off the Peyton train. Go Bucs!!!

  9. feelthepewterpower Says:

Martin had an awesome start to 2016…then got hurt in the second game and hasnt been the same since, then got suspended of course.

dude you live in fantasy land… tell tattoo i said hello…

martin is garbage. he ha few good games years ago. not a feature back and never was a scoring threat…

  11. tmaxcon Says:

bucs need martin… laughable… martin is a joke just like organization they do have that in common.

  12. tmaxcon Says:

    buford

trying to convince someone they need herpes would be easier than convincing anyone with half a brain the bucs need a washed up gerbil.

  13. Season Is Over Says:

Martin is in heads. Lol. Martin scored on the goal line where Barber got stuffed in dramatic fashion. Even Ronde called him out.

  14. Destinjohnny Says:

Mate the offensive line is awful.
News flash bad o line = crap run game

  15. ATrain Says:

    Barber has earned the start

Dirk better fire his friend get a Great DC and OC

  16. Roy T. Buford Says:

    tmaxcon…
Dude, you already think like you have herpes. Your problem seems to be you look only at the down side of things, never look at any upside.

  17. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Barbers Turn????? What the hell kinda Team is this. Sounds like out on the Play Ground. No it’s my turn. No it’s my turn. Most Teams I know of have Starters and Back Ups if a Starter gets hurt. Not a It Was his turn. Does Wentz for the Eagles who is a beast wait his turn to play……..Really!!!! Might be why we are 4 & 9. You think???? Maybe next week it will be Barbers turn from the Get Go and we might have our turn to win!!!!!

  18. tmaxcon Says:

    Roy T. Buford

there is no upside when there is only 2 good years out of 6 that is not looking for upside that is gambling on a failed player…

  19. Doctor Stroud Says:

Did Barber shoot Coach Koetter’s dog or something? The fourth quarter featured dancin’ Charles Sims! Barber gets on a roll and then the coach just makes him disappear for entire quarters of a game.

  20. JabooBuc Says:

Did I miss something? I thought Barber has run well the last couple of weeks. Why is this even a question at this point? Martin is done here which is probably true for quite a few others as well.

  21. Ndog Says:

Koetter totally lost me the second Doug Martin walked on that field with the first unit today. In addition anyone who has ever played sports sees a coach gift a player playing time when someone else has clearly performed better that sucks away all trust you had in him. He is done in my eyes and on the confidence poll I will put zero confidence from here on out till hes gone.

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I bet Barber isn’t gonna do much better over time.

  23. 911bucs Says:

Ya I don’t get why Dirk went away from Barber, I mean he was productive even behind a garbage line.

  24. AlteredEgo Says:

Ohhh…what a smackdown S is Over….what an ugly relationship we share

  25. What in the buc Says:

Barber is the best running back we have, Others can block better but barber is the best runner. I’d rather take my chances with him that the sorry 2 yards a carry martin is a joke there is zero fear of him in the backfield for opposing teams probably excitement

  26. AlteredEgo Says:

    RB’s…we ain’t got one…Barber got some shimmy and power….but I’ve seen them all since 76…hammer…hammer ?…we ain’t got no stinking HAMMER !

  27. AlteredEgo Says:

oh..yeah….why does not James Wilder get his due in this town….by far…by FAR….the best RB in Buccaneer history …

  28. What in the buc Says:

Press conferences were a joke you can tell Koetter and Winston are full of crap

  29. AlteredEgo Says:

Koetter is never on the field….

  30. Frank Pillow Says:

Dirk is in Boise St. rapture…that’s the only explanation. Honestly, starting Martin is grounds for termination in and of itself at this point.

  31. Keenan Jones Says:

I’m sick of the Doug Martin bashing, how about we divert our attention to this TRASH OF AN OFFENSIVE LINE THAT HAS STATISTICALLY BEEN BAD FOR YEARS. WE HAVE ZERO STUDS ON THE OLINE MARPET MAYBE BUT HES OUT OF POSITION BECAUSE WE CAN’T BRING IN PROPER TALENT IN THE FIRST PLACE…Peyton is a tough basic runner nothing flashy. Patriots game first game back they were excited and opened up holes he wasn’t touched as soon as he got the hole… What happen he produced… THIS ORGANIZATION ALWAYS BASHES PLAYERS AND THEY GO ON TO WIN AND PRODUCE WITH OTHER TEAMS…. While of course the Buccs remain basic , medicore, laughable succaneers..

  32. BigHogHaynes Says:

There’s not a running back in the league that can do much better behind a O-Line like ours! Sorry….Barber ain’t the answer, in the 2018 year to come we will need at least 2 new running backs on this roster !! BACKSTABBING HAS TAKEN IT TOLL! THIS NEW REGIME HAS BEEN EXPOSED…TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE! NEW GM..NEW COACHING STAFF! ANOTHER YEAR WITH THIS STAFF AND I SEE ANOTHER YEAR OF REGRESSION! THIS ENTIRE STAFF HAS BEEN EXPOSED

  33. Tnew Says:

The real question should be after Barber proved to be effective, why go to Sims for the most important drive of the game? Sims gained some yards but the way Barber was going those could’ve been explosive plays. Not starting him was shameful, playing Sims at the end was spiteful.

  34. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

    It was Sims turn

  35. Rrsrq Says:

I was on the D. Martin train, blaming the line, etc. But what I saw yesterday, even when the line let a Lion in the backfield, Peyton, still made him miss and got yardage, yeah, the line is garbage, but we ride Peyton the rest of the year, especially Monday night or we get embarrassed again on National TV. I agree, we need to add another RB in the draft, say bye bye to Doug and Jacquizz (the good fellas), stop using Sims to run the ball (if he stays) and let Barber and (Rashaad Penny) take over the reigns. Why Penny, because our defense lacks playmakin, our offense lacks playmaking and when was the last time special teams made a play (Penny has 6 special teams touchdowns).

  36. AceofAerospace Says:

Drug Martin should have never been allowed back in a Bucs uniform. Fill out your retirement papers Drug and get out the rolling papers. I’ve said all along, Drug Martin is either a druggie, a cheater, a liar or all of the above. Either way, he should have never been trusted again.

  37. FortMyersDave Says:

This coaching regime simply refuses to make any adjustment whatsoever. Smitty refuses to double up Jlio Jones and has his secondary play a soft 10 yards off the receivers ad nauseum. Koetter refuses to bench Martin and now in week 14 only has begun to utilize Godwin and OJ Howard while ME and D-Jax are having very disappointing seasons. What a train wreck. Might as well fire Koetter after the final 3 losses to finish 4-12 while the Glazers try to get Chuckie on board if they have not contacted him yet. That is probably the only way they do not lose over half their season ticket base….

  38. Willy D Buc Says:

You don’t bench a guy for being injured. DK started him then moved on to Peyton, and I believe that move is permanent. I think DK handled the situation as he should’ve.

  39. BigHogHaynes Says:

It really don’t matter who’s at RB because our O -Line is in disarray, we have a RT that should have been gone last year but we had no replacement on the roster….we have a
RG who’s best years are behind him (bad back)…a LT that playing out of position since the day he was drafted……a LG that will end up being a journyman at best and a Center who is a pro-bowl caliber Righr Guard! As a unit this O-Line is trash….so it stands to reason Barber will look like trash! THE BACK-STABBING CONSPIRICY CONTINUES TO HAUNT THE BUCS!
