Bar Talk

December 29th, 2017

What is he?

No, this isn’t about a dive bar along the Pinellas County beaches.

Bleacher Report seems to believe former Bucs great Ronde Barber is a very strong candidate to get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

In a slideshow presentation, Bleacher Report lists of all Barber’s accomplishments and wonders, did he raise the bar or is he the bar?

Is it just me or is there anyone else getting sick of hearing about the Bucs greats from back in the day? Yes they were legends I get that.. But man why can’t we have a playoff season!!!! We have been teased over and over again for the past 10 years and let down every single time!

  2. Pa Privateer Says:

If…if…if…It would be something very special for Ronde, the Bucs and the fans. It would also be well deserved.

So many players should be honored with the Hall of Fame. I really think they need to increase the number of players allowed to be voted in every year.

  3. Rod Munch Says:

Solinor, put the keyboard down and go back to playing Destiny kiddo.

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Ronde is the best cover 2 corner in history – and the best blitzing corner ever, and one of the best tacklers ever, he shut down that dump of a stadium in Philly making the biggest play in franchise history and he single handedly won games for the Bucs (look at the game where Bryant kicked the FG against Philly, in that game Barber scored 2 TDs which was the only reason Bryant had a chance)l Barber is a hugely underrated player and he was the best at his position in a the most important defensive scheme of his era. His HOF credentials are solid.

  5. Lamarcus Says:

    Yes yes yes!!!!

  6. T-BO Says:

Crazy the biggest knock is, “he was a system player”. The whole damn Patriots team are system players and yet get praised all the time.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Ronde will make it in for one simple reason: he deserves it. Ira will see to it.

  8. BucUToo Says:

Solinor – Ask the Steelers fans if they get sick of talking about Mean Joe Greene, Franco Harris, or even Terry Bradshaw. I for one will never get tired of talking about the great Bucs of the past. Ronde was one of the best corners to ever play the game. He set the bar for corners in the Tampa 2 defense. When other teams adopted that defensive philosophy, the used Barbers tape to teach their corners. As Rod Munch said, he made one of the most important plays in franchise history.

  9. Pickgrin Says:

Highly unlikely Ronde gets in on the 1st ballot. He may not even make the finalists in this his 1st year of eligibility as there are a # of sure fire 1st ballot guys this year.

Like Lynch, Ronde WILL get in the HOF – one day – but will likely be made to “wait his turn” initially – in favor of other more “worthy” candidates.

Seeing as how Barber is the ONLY member of the 25+Ints/25+ sacks club in NFL history – he will get in eventually.

Best CB in Buccaneer history – of that there is no doubt.

  10. Tom Edrington Says:

So tell Ira to get to work on his “Ronde presentation”….

  11. BoJim Says:

Double yes to Barber getting in.

  12. Buc believer Says:

@Solinor… yes it is just you

  13. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

Edit this post for misspelling, please.

  14. AlteredEgo Says:

I can still see him running down the sidelines after his interception in Philly in the NFC Championship game….and realizing….WE ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Solinor

    Definitely just you.

  16. tmaxcon Says:

Hall of fame lost all credibility and is nothing more than a popularity contest just like the meaningless pro bowl the moment the ignorant one dimensional fool dungy was enshrined ahead of Tom Flores. The hof used to be for the best of the best not popular choke artists with a career losing playoff record. Sapp and brooks are all thaat deserve to be enshrined from that under achieving team that only managed 5 playoff wins… its an absolute disgrace dungy was enshrined in hof with a career losing playoff record

  17. tmaxcon Says:

    Tom Flores

8-3 in playoffs with 2 super bowls and FIRST minority head coach to win a super bowl

    Dungy the clown

9-10 and the king of one and done… colts won because of manning and despite of dungy the playoff choke artist

  18. tmaxcon Says:

Nobody celebrates a failed past like low standard buc fan who cant tell the difference between greatness and popularity

  19. 813bucboi Says:

    tmax

what was manning before dungy got there?…..someone who couldn’t get over the hump…..you prove your stupidity everyday….GO BUCS!!!

  20. AlteredEgo Says:

How many bitter years old are you tmaxcon ?

  21. tmaxcon Says:

    813

The only thing stupid is a coach with a career losing playoff record being enshrined in hof…

The legend of dungy surpassed his actual accomplishments long long ago.

2 playoff wins in 6 years with that defense is failure PERIOD…. dungy / mckay offenses set football back a decade…

  22. tmaxcon Says:

Im not bitter just a realist who sees things clearly and without emotions…. results are all that matter… dungy the clown failed simple as that

  23. Mike Johnson Says:

Ronde Barber was always underrated. Maybe because he was not a..trash talker, He was one of our greats from our Buc past. We could use a Ronde on our..Soft as charmin Defense. He’ll make it into the HOF with no problem.

  24. tmaxcon Says:

you fools can’t rewrite history because mr peanut is popular. he failed. he should have never been hired in the first place. whyce built his defense and he still choked…

go back and watch dungy’s horrendous game day management and offensive philosophy… the only thing more embarrassing than bucs offense under dungy was the lovie smith and mike smith defensive efforts over the last 4 years.

  25. OneBucPerson Says:

One common question I hear is frequently passed around the voters when deciding is “Can the history of the NFL/Pro Football be written without mentioning -blank-?” And no one can tell me that the history of the NFL can be written without mentioning the most durable defensive back in NFL history who has been selected to multiple Pro Bowl and All Pro teams, has scored 14 non-offensive touchdowns, has over 1000 tackles, and has a Super Bowl ring. Ronde Barber belongs in the Hall of Fame.

  26. OneBucPerson Says:

@tmaxcon Ronde, Lynch, and Alstott all belong in the Hall at their respective positions.

  27. 813bucboi Says:

    tmax

dungy has a GOLD JACKET for a reason….dungy got manning his first super bowl…..dungy is a perfect 1 for 1 in the superbowl….didn’t manning choke against the saints and seahawks…..GO BUCS!!!!

  28. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

100% ronde in the hall def before lynch… and dungy cost tampa 2-3 super bowls w his BS offensive philosophy

  29. tmaxcon Says:

    813

The only reason dungy has a gold jacket is hius misplaced popularity and the color of his skin… if he were Hispanic or white he would have never even been considered… hes a joke

  30. tmaxcon Says:

    OneBucPerson

Stop confusing popularity wuth greatness you are delusional

  31. tmaxcon Says:

Hof is (was) for the best of the best not popularity or feel good stories

  32. Steven007 Says:

Trollmax says: “I see things without emotions”. Um, after strategy the game of football is nothing but emotion. Most teams are relatively evenly matched with some of the best athletes on earth. And for fans who have no physical investment in the games, it’s pretty much all emotion. What do you think a momentum swing is? An emotionless piece of strategy that somehow magically allows one team to dominate another in a Spock-like fashion? Goodness, what a clown statement from the queasiest clown on JBF.

  33. Pickgrin Says:

Looks like tmax forgot to take his meds again….

  34. OneBucPerson Says:

Tmax are you saying Ronde doesn’t belong in the Hall? Also Alstott has more touchdowns than more than half of the FBs in the Hall already, and Lynch was one of the hardest hitting safeties in NFL history, he has over 1000 tackles and more than 30 turnovers. With those, the Pro Bowl and All Pro nods, and a Super Bowl ring he absolutely deserves a spot.

  35. 813bucboi Says:

    tmax

dungy got in because he deserved it….he’s undefeated in super bowl appearances as a player and coach…..facts you cant deny….your accomplishments don’t come close to dungy…..that’s a fact….GO BUCS!!!

  36. DB55 Says:

Rhona has become a complete fckn sell out lately.

Watching the game last night. On the sack by McCoy he says – Gerald McCoy beating another double team to get the sack – then the replay comes on and he’s like -OH no double team just one on one vs a back-up and if not for McDonald clearing the gap McCoy never gets there now let me remove these dippin dots out my mouth cuz I was wrong and my twin brother does TV waaaaay better than I do but then again he wasn’t trying to tap dance for the Tampa natives either so there’s that.

As for the HOF I think if Rhonda gets in then Steve Smith should be let in before Rhonda.
