Stomp-Victim Smith Looks Back

November 15th, 2017

Bucs guard/center Evan Smith was famously on the wrong end of a Ndamukong Suh stomp. He’ll face off against Suh in Miami.

It’s been six years since Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh violently stomped on Aaron Rodgers’ former center.

The video is below, and the victim was current Bucs guard center Evan Smith, who used to go by Dietrich-Smith.

Suh was with the Lions and now he’s on the Dolphins, who the Bucs face Sunday on the road.

Joe talked to Smith today about the famous Thanksgiving encounter that got Suh suspended a couple of games and made Smith a household name across America for a week or so.

Smith said there’s no lingering animosity and he personally dropped it after Suh called him personally soon after and apologized. But does Smith remember the play and situation? He sure does.

Joe doesn’t have any kind of amazing quote from Smith. The video tells the story of the play.

But Joe did inadvertently annoy Smith for a moment. Joe asked what it was like at the time for Smith, who was an undrafted 2009 Packers free agent of the Packers that already had bounced to the Seahawks and back, to become a famous household name.

Smith asked Joe whether Joe had any clue what it was like to play for the Packers and win a Super Bowl the previous season? “Famous? I didn’t need him stomping on me to be famous,” Smith said. It was a very fair point and Joe acknowledged there was no insult intended with the question.

Regardless, Smith insists he won’t be looking to land any cheap shots on Sunday, even if it’s in a pile.

“That’s over,” he said.

And no, Smith isn’t looking to cheap shot Joe, either.

    Awkward.

If it will get us a 15 yard penalty against the Fins, or even get Suh thrown out of the game, I’ll go to Miami and he can stomp on me. That’s how desperate I am for a win this Sunday.

ya think they remember each other…. ?

Doesn’t look so bad lol we could really use some nasty up front, I’m hoping the players show up for E Smith and Grimes also and get those guys a win

Bruh 2 weeks ago Suh choked Ryan Mallett (I think) on MNF and it was the funniest thing I’d ever seen. I think Suh gets jacked playing against gmc to show everyone who the best 3T is. Sad part is that right now it might be Chris Baker lol even though he a NT. Suh and gmc both suck.

Evan Smith and Gerald McCoy should sit on the bench and sell autographed ice cream cones to the fans.

Great question Joe. Thanks for letting us know that he isn’t looking to cheap shot a guy despite the fact that he also didn’t every time they played since then. Real hard hitting reporting.
Hey, Zach. Joe writes about what Joe finds interesting, not what Joe thinks you might find interesting. One thing Joe has learned as a reporter, only the A-hole writers and journalists mock the questions of others … yet those are the same guys who would run to type up a valuable answer to the question they allege is dumb. –Joe

    DB55,

Totally agree! I probably watched it 10 times. Just to see that exact moment when Mallet realized the magnitude of his transgression. If that wasn’t entertaining enough , Suh held him like The predator did to Dutch.

  8. AlteredEgo Says:

So DB55….are you saying we should play McBoy @ guard ? 🙂

  9. DB55 Says:

    Duke hilarious.

Altered he might make a decent LT. Like Michael Ohor and his protective nature. I’m think mcboy has much nurturing tendencies

The bias in the comments against GMC is ridiculous. The one thing for sure is its personal and has nothing to do with his on field performance.

You may want to review the DEF stat sheet from the Jets game and remind yourselves who had the better game GMC or Baker. I know the answer but obviously you didn’t look. How about the personal foul penalty on Baker that led to 6/TD for Jets? No accountability for Baker? After that, go look at the great play GMC made which was TFL and tell me again Baker is better than GMC. Baker = 0 TFL. Probably one of the best indicators for a DT to determine his effect on the game is TFL.

I feel sad for some of you because I do know one thing and that its MORE likely that you will see GMC in a Buc uniform next year and not BAKER. Talk about clueless.>>DB55

Gotta agree with donuts here, the GMC bashing is so silly man he is definitely our best defensive lineman still at this time

  12. DB55 Says:

    Donuts

Meh. Look at the season and look at the salaries.

I wish gmc could get a personal foul penalty! Not sure he’s capable of such atrocities.

I forgot about this, but I remember watching it as it happened. I remember thinking Suh was a bad ass and I wanted him on the Bucs even more, but Raheem had to win some meaningless games at the end of the season.
