Jameis To Miss At Least Two Games

November 6th, 2017

Ever listen to The ScuttleBucs podcast here at JoeBucsFan.com?

Co-host Jeff Cameron of ESPN Tallahassee is a friend of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. And Cameron is Twittering this morning that Jameis will be out a minimum of two weeks with his shoulder injury.

That’s good news, because longer would mean a more serious injury. It’s also good news because it means Jameis will heal.

The bad news is Ryan Fitzpatrick will start against the surprisingly physical and hungry Jets, as well as in Miami against the Dolphins’ ferocious defensive line.

Expect the Bucs to activate QB Ryan Griffin from injured reserve this week, as he becomes eligible after going on IR in preseason.

Good. He needs to sit for both mental and physical reasons. I can’t believe I’m starting to doubt him and Mike Evans.

please let us see some RG1

  3. Joeypoppems Says:

The McCown v Fitzpatrick double revenge game is gonna be hype AF tho….

  4. Conte Piscateli Says:

Best news I’ve heard all day. Jameis needs to spend some time watching, seriously I think watching another players approach will help. Now if I hear Barber will take over as our starting running back for the rest of the season that would help too. This team needs a shake up, some players need to be benched, call it an injury if you want.

  5. JMan5 Says:

Hasnt Jameis miss the last 6 already?

    High and behind

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Great…my one game a year traveling from NC and no Jameis & possibly no Evans…..funny thing is, I think we might win this game…..if for no other reason than to set up a QB controversy.

  7. Lamarcus Says:

I will not go far as to doubt him and skill level. The team is trash so evryone looks like trash.
Jw is one of the better qbs in the league. With that said JW is experiencing something that is not healthy to a developing qb and man. This will kill his mojo if he continues to get hosed week in and out. Jw needs to be inactive for the rest of year

  8. Waterboy Says:

Thank goodness! I’ve been saying for weeks they’re going to lose with or without him so let him fully heal and focus on being ready for next year.

  9. firethecannons Says:

the reason for Jameis getting shoulder dived into the turf every game needs to be investigated and the player responsible should be benched/made to get better

  10. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Cant defend Jameis BS yesterday but he sems to have been off since he hurt his shoulder a few weeks back and has been struggling but that has nothing to do with him missing the deep ball constatntly

  15. uckinator Says:

Famous Jameis was never a pinpoint passer. He just had the “It” factor. Now, with an arthritic shoulder, it’s the s*it factor. He needs to sit. This season is already past the smelly, hairy turd level. Concentrate on next season and keep players that actually give a s*it !

  16. Bculaw Says:

He shouldn’t have been in position to start the fight, Buccaneer Scotty. You can’t let an opposing defender come over to your sideline and start taunting and talking trash. Someone needed to stand up for the team and put Lattimore in his place. It just shouldn’t have been Jameis. The fact that it was tells you everything you need to know about the team’s leadership.

JE has played poorly this season for the most part. That said, he’s obviously been hurt the last few games and it showed in his performance. He’s been put in a bad position having to lead the team at 23. Frankly, he doesn’t have the success or experience (I.e., credibility) to do it effectively. IMO, the biggest reason to replace Koetter is to bring in a stronger personality who can replace Jameis and Kwon as the true “alpha dog” of the team while the young guys continue to learn and develop. You can’t lead effectively when you are hurt or struggling. Both have been hurt and have struggled this season, which is to be expected a ton this stage in their career.

  17. NFLNut Says:

Everyone knows I believe in JW and believe JW will be a HOF’er … HOWEVER, if the Bucs shelve him for the year or even if he continues to play hurt and they do happen to earn the #4 pick behind the Browns, 49’ers and Giants, at worst one of the top four QBs (Darnold, Allen, Rosen and Jackson) will be available and the Bucs will have an interesting decision to make *if* they fire Koetter as expected and have a new regime in place.

Let’s say they sign Jim Harbaugh and give him complete control … he may want to either draft a rookie QB or sign a free agent without losing any players or picks and trade Jameis to an AFC team like the Jets or Broncos for a boatload of picks to re-stack this sorry roster … or he can trade that #4 pick to a team like the Jets for a boatload of picks and ride with Jameis.

Personally I think if Gruden or Arians is the coach they will absolutely want Jameis … and if Patricia gets hired, Licht will be the guy who hires him and he will be staying as GM and Jameis will also be staying … however, what if the team cleans house and gives a guy like Harbaugh the keys to the kingdom?

If I was a GM, I’d take Jameis’ future over any other QB in the NFL … but even I couldn’t blame Harbaugh if he convinced the Glazers to sign Kirk Cousins and then traded Jameis to the Jets for the, say, #6 pick, a 2nd, a 3rd and a 2019 #1 … and then draft Saqon Barkley at #4 and Bradley Chubb at #6 and added a RT with the extra 2nd rounder and another DE with the extra 3rd rounder.

Interesting times ahead for Bucs fans … and Jameis fans like me!

  18. ElioT Says:

They should contact Peyton Manning and have Jameis go spend a couple weeks on his couch, talking about how to be an effective field general and leader, not some wild maniac licking his fingers and screaming nonsense.

This roster is a mess right now and purges must be made, but Jameis is the most important player and he has got to improve in every facet of his game.

This franchise cannot allow Jameis to fail and fade away into mediocrity.

    Go Sucs!!!

  20. Buccaneer scotty Says:

  21. theodore Says:

If Fitz leads the Bucs to a touchdown on his first drive, I’m going to laugh and cry at the same time.

  22. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

You know GMC got a lot of sh1t for his pregame speech last year. I almost wonder if some of these guys are tuning Jameis out at this point. That things where he was deepthroating his fingers and claiming he was eating Ws yesterday was downright cringe worthy. I heard Michael Clayton say the Brooks told him a while ago to tone that stuff down. If your franchise is acting like a wacky maniac right before kick off I am not sure that is instilling confidence in the team.

  23. DB55 Says:

    Nflnut

Love your post! I say this if Harbaugh does bring in another q.v. and let’s jw go his first mistake would be to not have a competition. If he allows the new q.v. to compete and they win then awesome unlikely but awesome.

But just giving the job to a new q.v. would put us right back to square 1.

Top crazy things posters here say:

    1. Winston is a franchise QB. Nope. Even if you throw out his ridiculous pre game speeches, the man can’t accurately throw the football. Quarterbacks throw footballs, to their guys, in stride, where it can be caught. Winston is a cheerleader and not a good one. Leadership and cheerleadership are not the same thing.

    2. Trade Winston. While I’m not against the idea, who in the hell would give you anything in a trade. If some crazy fool wanted to take a chance on him they would just wait for his release. Another overall #1 Bucs draft pick that is an unmitigated bust. IMO, JW has been a coddled athlete with marginal talent his whole life. Charismatic, yes and that’s what got him through high school and 2 yrs of college. But this the NFL. I think he’s already peaked. Ironic that he plays the preacher man, considering his less than virtuous character issues, and immaturity.

    3. Get a 1st and 3rd for McCoy. OK just LMAO on that one.

    4. Gruden! Gruden!. While Gruden did coach this team to a SB, his ego also ran Rich McKay out of town, so he and buddy Bruce Allen could destroy it. We are still paying to this day . The man has a super sized ego already. Do you think walking by a statue of himself everyday at one Buc is going to shrink that ego ? What you will get is Napolean. Now if Rich McKay wants to come back and be GM and keep him straight….but not gonna happen.

    5. Keep this staff. Seriously? Keeping this staff just because we change coaches too often? WTF, they have lost this team because they can’t coach or GM.

    6. Licht has done a good job? Where? We have marginal talent ( and none on Oline or Dline ) no depth at all. Looks to me like he’s running a summer camp. With someone else’s money.

Been a Bucs fan from the very beginning , and always will be. Doesn’t mean I can’t see the forest or the trees. This staff is done, and so is a large part of this team.

Derrick Brooks for GM. Dungy, president of football operations. Start with those two and things begin to change immediately. However, I don’t imagine they want to be within 100 miles of this dumpster fire.

  25. Mo_Downs Says:

The good ship “Bucs 17” is sinking fast. Time to call for a new teammate to bring some competence and desire into the offense.

I have and will continue to call for hiring Colin K. Let’s not pull a Miami and end up with a retread QB like Jay “McPouty” who is a team spirit, buzz-kill and a disaster.

Look, I’m so disappointed in the Bucs that I can’t even play Madden football anymore. I dropped big paper to follow the Bucs via NFL Sunday Ticket.

Colin K. will salvage the season by taking pressure off the OL with timely scrambles to avoid 3 and outs and an arm big enough to hit downfield targets on the run.

ATC, Jameis needs time to truly heal. Fitzpatrick is a mini spare tire. And, Griffin will be cannon fodder with no hope of giving the offense a lift.

Bring in Colin K for a tryout and start working on an offense that will highlight his skills instead of dooming him to failure by trying to plug him into the current scheme. Let’s see what Koetter can do with a different type of QB talent beyond a stiff in the pocket waiting for slow targets to (never) get open.

ive been saying jim harbaugh since the ARZ game….I think he would be the perfect fit….he would take on that leadership role and embraces it so that Winston evans kwon can just focus on playing ball….

I think harbaugh would keep Winston, trade the #4 or #5 pick along with GMC for more picks….

all I know is, he came to a lousy 9ers team and had them playing like their hair was on fire….they had a very good defense and a great run game…..2 things that we are currently lacking….

but your right….interesting times ahead….GO BUCS!!!!

You know darn well the entire group of “real fans since the very beginning” would all fall over and keel if they even saw Kap at TIA. There heads would spontaneously combust. There tractor trailers would stop working and their a r 15s would be lubed to the hilt.

Although it would be the best option and one I have called on before myself consider where you are and if you don’t understand go take a drive on I-75 just north of I-4. Thanks for the laugh though that was good.

did you enjoy captain blowouts performance yesterday. loaf after loaf he represented the team and organization well especially being a team captain. how many more regimes does the losing culture destroy and how many more years do we get to rebuild .

    Jamarc

bucs tried living in the past with the failed lovie smith pr stunt. dungy has a career losing playoff record and chokes when it matters most how is that going to take the bucs to the next level. Living in the past is ridiculous. They need real football people not underachieving failed stars of the past…

  33. 813bucboi Says:

    @joe

was it the doctors call…or glazers call?…..

we know dirk aint smart enough to sit Winston….he made him throw almost 40 times last week and was on pace for another 35+ attempts with a bum shoulder…..how about running barber 30+ times….GO BUCS!!!

  34. Macklemore Says:

Jameis should sit on the bench for that bizarre pregame rant sucking his fingers, as well as for putting those same fingers on the back of Lattimore’s head as Lattimore was walking away from him. He cost his friend Evans, who must not have noticed that Winston instigated the fight. Not good leadership in any way shape or form.

  35. AlteredEgo Says:

The Real Jameis Returned….phony …fraud….inaccurate passer…you know his history….got run out of FSU and Tallahassee

  36. Lakeland Says:

  39. DB55 Says:

A lot of you so called fans should turn to the Legends of Football league, although they maybe too violent for your sensitivities too.

  40. SB Says:

I can see Fitz winning this game this weekend and we will have ourselves a Controversy.

  41. tmaxcon Says:

it’s funny the same jameis bashers with agendas are the same ones that would be happy if the team was 0-16 every year with a pathetic member of the dungy coaching shrub running a conservative zone scheme with NO offense. so let’s bring back a dungy philosophy that underachieved and could never finish. great defense but a bad team with a one dimensional leader. Way to raise the bar by bringing back previous failed coaches and players. stupid simply stupid. you are also the same fools that think dungy’s 2 playoff wins in 6 years are glory years. laughable.

  42. JimmyJack Says:

My pretend GM idea would be to let him sit and watch Fitzs approach just like Conte Pis had mentioned……But I would not let Jamies take another snap until he has a team surrounding him that competes at a pro level…….If that means we have to bench some of our better players then so be it.

Say what you want about Winston but he plays with a ton of heart.

  44. Dlavid Says:

Just shut it down for the season ! Goodness ! Heal up properly and get a view from the sideline that may just help JW game next year . This team has imploded and personnel changes are a must ! 45. JimmyJack Says:

I got disrupted before I could could finish……………Winston has a ton of heart. I think it’s unfair for him to be out with playe s who have given up(they know who they are) and don’t have there QBs back.

  46. JimmyJack Says:

Tmax…….Did you hear Romo the other night admiring Dungys coaching tree? It was a very knowledgable highlight during that game.

  47. tmaxcon Says:

i am convinced the glazers will never do the right thing or are completely incapable of doing the right thing. They have not made many solid decisions since daddy got sick. rip malcom thanks for getting rid of the one dimensional career playoff loser and bringing us our only glory year.

gruden was far from perfect and should never be allowed to buy groceries therefore he will NEVER return to tampa. He will NOT take a position that he does not run the entire show and he failed at running the entire show.

bucs need a real president of football operations not some ex player or failed coach from the past. they need a forward thinker not has been with tired philosophies.

  48. JMarkBuc Says:

    Maxi pad

More important than 2 playoff wins was the fact that Dungy brought respectability to the laughing stock of the NFL. Most of our second string could have started for many teams. It was the real deal.

I would take some respectability and a deep talented team right now.

Ironic that Dungy won his SB with an offensive team.

dungy’s career losing playoff record proves when it matter most he choked and could not get the job done. one of the greatest sales jobs of all time to get a one dimensional coach with a career losing playoff record in the hall of fame. hall of fame used to be for the best of the best not overrated nice guys who could not get the job done when it matter most. hall lost a lot of credibility when dungy was enshrined before Tom Flores

  54. Not there yet Says:

Ryan Fitzpatrick is getting a bad rep from how unimpressive he looked in training camp how stupid is that. He scored a touchdown Sunday which Winston couldn’t do then put up 33 I’m his game before that so as bad as Winston has played don’t start bashing the backup before he had a chance to play a full game. That’s funny since you call out Winston like a running joke that no one should take seriously. I for one think the team will be glad they don’t have to hear that childish alphabet soup speech and we’ll see what the adults in the room will do since we all know Winston will be around even if the coaches won’t

  55. Its_A_Tough_Buc_Life Says:

Yall are a bunch of weirdos

  56. JMarkBuc Says:

    Oh Maxi,

No opinion on Tom Flores. It’s all moot anyway. Dungy isn’t getting anywhere near this. Just sayin, the minute he’s in the building we get respectability. Doesn’t have to be coach. He’ll, he could get hired to the lunchroom and we would have 1000% more credibility than we do now.

    And the uniforms are ugly.

  57. tmaxcon Says:

    Playoffs record: 9–10
    Overall record: 148–79

  63. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “The bad news is Ryan Fitzpatrick will start against the surprisingly physical and hungry Jets, as well as in Miami against the Dolphins’ ferocious defensive line.” Hmmm, great vote of confidence in Fitz there Joe. Just for the record, in the last 4 games (Cards, Bills, Panthers & Saints) Jameis has taken 183 snaps (played all of 2 games & part of 2 games). Fitz has taken less than half of that (85 snaps, playing in 2 of those games). While Jameis was on the field, Bucs scored 33 points … Fitz put up 40 points (and did it in almost 100 fewer plays). We won’t talk about the difference in INTs & fumbles. Only point being, keep an open mind about Fitz … he may surprise ya. Or not (since the team around him hasn’t changed any).
Joe’s concern in Fitz holding up physically. He’ll play well; he’ll throw picks. He’ll be Fitz. –Joe

  64. Bobby M. Says:

Literally the worst case scenario….offense comes alive…sustains drives and looks respectable with Fitz at QB….Think about it. That happens, then what? Winston comes back, we look terrible. The Bucs are about to have an even bigger mess on their hands.

  65. DoNUTS Says:

I am hearing the relationship between “America QB” and Koetter is really broken. I woke up at 5 AM and re-watched parts of the game and specifically the interactions between coach and JW….its icey at best in comparison to ’16. There was a point where #3 was asked to throw and he declined yesterday. I have never seen that before. I think he got benched for it. If you combine that with the feel sorry for me looks along with the fact he is touching players when he is not on the field (he deserves a fine) or playing and creating trouble, I think we know the answer that is coming. JW is not a pro. The NFL will not wait forever for him to mature and at this rate he will be lucky to get a CFL gig. I am willing to give him a pass on the idiotic eating Ws thing even since its not during the game but it didnt help his cause at all. I have seen DJAX face during that nonsense. He too is done with #3. If Fitz wins 1 of the next 2 games, we wont be seeing #3 this year again. His coddled ass since HS needs to look from the sidelines anyway and learn how to read a DEF.

BTW t-max and DB55- Fighting doesnt win games in the NFL. Thats high school bro. If you think fighting will make this team better, your really not well educated about winning football and I guess have not watched any of the good teams lately. I would encourage you to go watch NE or KC for a sampling of how you get to the playoffs and win as a team. Note>> very little fighting. If you fight on those teams and take a penalty, you wont see action for the reast of that game or more if Bill has his way (which he always does). In fact NE only fights when Tom Brady has a cheap shot taken at him when he is ON the field; Not sitting on the sideline playing jackass. We dont need hard players…we need a coach that demands excellence.

Tom Flores much more qualified candidate. Dungy is only in the hall of fame because he is a popular nice guy. simple as that. there are at least a handful of coaches with better credentials not in hall of fame yet. flores and jimmy johnson both ten times the coach as the one dimensional stubborn dungy.

    55-

First and foremost, the guy you love the most DB #55 hated fighting and players who lost control. Something to chew on when your sitting there writing under this name about the Pros of fighting, who I consider the best Buc of all time. He would flat out tell you that you are wrong and confused as fighting is not winning football. The Jags fought tons before Coughlin got there and they had a 3 win season if you need a little proof. There is a big difference between fighting and being physical up front as the latter takes skill.

When Evans is suspended this week and cant play, remember that fighting does not win games. Even ME post game, said it was not a good move on his part and he regretted it.

JW may be some sacred cow to you but to normal Buc fans who have seen tons of terrible QB play…he is just another name on the list of bad QBs.

Perhaps my new favorite is that manning won the super bowl in spite of Sungy. LOL! You realize Manning never did sh!t in the postseason UNTIL he had a great defense. (Colts and Broncos)

  78. EEK Says:

I think we have enough data to predict that a long term deal with Winston is likely to set the franchise back 5 years.
I would sit him for 3-4 weeks and then let him play out the last 3-4 games that don’t mean anything and then offer him up as trade bait.
Winston’s numbers are fraudulent. He has had some amazing games but he has not shown himself to be consist, and that is what is needed from a franchise quarterback. Now that he is a guy who gets injured he is more likely to become even more inconsistent.
    Time to move on….

  79. SOEbuc Says:

Only took the front office and coaches four straight weeks of the same accruing injury to make this genius decision.

Was nice to see someone other than us fans get MAD ! First time I saw any fight from the Bucs.

  81. Wewantgruden Says:

Evans is a coward for hitting Someone from the blindside. JamesisNOT stayed that he was protecting his QB, LOL. Fitzpatrick is now the qb and I hope he does well and wins the starting job. Gruden will work so much better with an intelligent QB.

  82. BucEmUp Says:

    Start Ryan Griffin

Fire Mike Smith / Promote Jay Hayes

Let Tod Monken call Koetters playbook.

    Watch the team turn around

  83. TradeisWinston Says:

They should really consider dumping Winston. Like him all you want but he’s never going to bring a championship. Send him to the Browns.

  84. Matts17 Says:

JW is a cross between Doug Williams and Vinny Testaverde. In another 10 years when he’s finally matured and realized what it takes to be a pro he’ll probably experience some moderate success maybe even more in the perfect situation with an elite team ala 87 Redskins.

Unfortunately for now and the foreseeable future, he’s a coach killer.

  85. Bucsace Says:

I hope Jameis knows how to speak Canadian

  86. Mike Johnson Says:

Shutup UNBELIEVABLE. There is an opening for Caoch Koetters coffee boy. Remember? YOU..were the one who hailed his hiring as the 2nd coming of Christ!!

  87. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“Expect the Bucs to activate QB Ryan Griffin”

    That’s good news at least.
