Fearless Will Gholston

Will Gholston speaks

Lost in the Bucs defense getting pounded in Atlanta was the return of defensive end Will Gholston from a very scary neck injury that sent him to the hospital three weeks ago.

Gholston got the ominous but positive “neurologically sound” clearance shortly after that game in New Orleans, but he was wearing a neck brace/collar and was not allowed to practice until last week.

On Sunday, Gholston jumped right in without fear. He told Joe the injury was not in his head when the whistle blew at the Georgia Dome.

“I feel like bodywise I was ok and played well, but there were a lot of things I should have done that I didn’t do,” Gholston said in the locker room.

“After an injury like that, you just can’t think about it. When you think about it, that’s when something happens to you because you try to compensate physically. I just went out there and tried to give everything I got.”

There’s never any effort question with Gholston, who finished the day with three solo tackles and a tackle for a loss.

Joe just couldn’t let this game pass without acknowledging Gholston’s comeback and drive.

I think Gholston is one of the keepers on that Stay Puff Marshmallow line..Gotta find a vicious DE in free agency and draft one..pressure the QB and Everything changes

  2. LifeOfABucFan Says:

The man is the real deal, plays with his entire being, his heart and soul..Off field, same thing..Just hope he gets some equal players this coming draft or off season, some good players coming in as free agents…

  3. DB55 Says:

Wish we had more like Will King Kong Gholston

  4. Lamarcus Says:

Gholston happens to be the only elite run defender we have.

  5. GhostofSchiano Says:

I can’t understand how he is not getting any sacks, if they played him next to Gerald “Tmaxcon” McCoy it would take 4 to block the 2 of them.

  6. Waterboy Says:

Happy to see that Gholston wasn’t injured as bad as it looked when he went down. It was a weird injury because I didn’t see much on the replays but those are normally the worst ones.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Solid player….glad we have him. Teams need players like Gholston…..nothing really flashy but tough and hard worker.
Hard for me to believe that anything could injure him….he is an absolute beast.

  8. Bucsfanman Says:

Tough dude, no doubt. He still brings nothing to the pass-rush though and really didn’t have a huge impact in the game overall. Sorry! It NEEDS to be said!

  9. JimmyJack Says:

Bucsfanman It should be noted that Gholston made a few nice plays in the run stop that set up third and longs. He set us up to get off the field. His play could have had an impact IMO

  10. JimmyJack Says:

The Falcons were also tearing us up off tackle. I refuse to rewatch that game but I think it’s safe to guess that most of those run plays went away from Gholstons side. That alone can usually have an impact in the game.

Really gotta blame Mike Smith there for not adjusting as they kept working that same angle all first half.

  11. Mike Johnson Says:

If Gholston can just stay healthy..I like the kid. He hustles and is always around the ball doin somethin. Wish I could say the same for many others……

  12. No_Bucs_Given Says:

Gholston sucks. His skill set is dime a dozen. Best defensive effort the two games he was out.

  13. Destinjohnny Says:

    I think he had a
    Tackle Sunday as
    Well.
    Good guy

@No Bucs Given….go troll the Packers fan sight..

  15. No_Bucs_Given Says:

@life so because someone disagrees with you they’re trolling? Don’t be so ignorant. What has will done? Is he a good boy? Yes. Does he give great effort? Yes. But you can’t hate on people like Doug and Swaggy but then accept will because he tries hard. He hasn’t recording meaningful sacks in his career and gets almost 50% playing time. Paying 7mil on a run stuffer to me is a waste. And to call anyone a troll you don’t know is the weakest response you can have to a fellow fan with a different opinion.

A neck injury would likely get me to re-think my career choice. Your a brute. Stay well Man!!
