“We Can’t Keep Digging Ourselves A Hole”

Swaggy opines after today’s loss

Bucs defensive tackle/veteran sage Chris “Swaggy” Baker was talking to Joe after the game about a familiar Bucs issue.

Take a wild guess .. .slow starts.

“We just got to get a couple more things to go our way. This team’s not going to stop fighting. We’ve just got to continue to come out and play faster. We can’t keep digging ourselves a hole and have to fight back and not have enough at the end to seal the deal,” Baker said. “You know, these guys in this locker room are trying hard. We’re going out in practice each and every day working our butts off. We just got to get to the game and execute and start fast.

“Most of the games that we’ve lost, we’re down 20 points in the second quarter and playing catch up the rest of the game. We’ve got to jump on teams from the start and figure out a way to win the rest of these games.”

Baker added that there was nothing different about halftime today. The Bucs just stayed focused and took a keep-working attitude into the second half.

What can Joe say. Slow starts have killed the Bucs.

Yes, Tampa Bay had a good opening drive and jumped up 3-0 and took the crowd out of the game. But they were getting rolled by halftime and trailed 27-6 five minutes into the third quarter. That’s serious hole-digging.

So can we quick blaming the slow starts on Winston now and put the blame where it should be and that is on Dirk. Jamies in not even in there and whe are still starting slow.

  2. BROCKTACULAR Says:

    ^^^^Second that!!!

  3. Season Is Over Says:

This guy is just cashing a paycheck and still outplayed the All-Pro McCoy when the team needed it most.

  4. ScottyinFatAntonio Says:

YAWNNNNNNNNNNNNN….seen this movie week after week after week.

  5. JimmyJack Says:

Our Oline clearly wasn’t ready to play NFL football at the start…..These guys are mentally weak. A reflectition of how Dirk and Licht built this squad.

Mike Evans looked like a #2 not no #1……..You get the Falcons number one and ask him to make you those plays in the end zone and we get 2 TDs………Mike Evans is a very talented WR who is freaking unreliable……..it was cute in 2015, now the guy just makes me wanna puke sometimes. This guy ain’t elite, far from it.

  6. Eric Says:

Sir it’s too late to get things going.

We’re done with five meaningless games ahead.

Of course we can go on with the usual buc tradition of winning a couple and creating the illusion of being worth a damn.

  7. not there yet Says:

Really swaggy lol I think he’s on to something but he’s right, there’s no need to dig any further. The hole is deep enough to throw your season in and bury it now. This is the mentality I have about the players when they come to the bucs organization. You stink all season long then go looking for positives and the last few meaningless games every year. When is the standard going to be playoffs or disappointment? At this point I believe the vets have their wives planning the vacations after the season because it’s over and lol who on this team cares about playoffs, a team looking to make the playoffs doesn’t dig a 2-6 hole then win 2 games by the skin on their teeth against two garbage teams that had a better record than we did and come out and basically not step up the level of play. I don’t care who gets fired but watching this coaching staff waste this talent is a waste of my time

  8. BucThis Says:

For heavens sake bring in a coach who actually gives a damn about winning and putting our players in a position to win. Our guys have tuned out these coaches. Hopefully Jameis is still with us next year and we can actually compete with a new coach and a new scheme 🤦‍♂️

  9. Crazed Fan Says:

    Chris Baker SUCK!!!

  10. Frogmouth Says:

Here they come the ad hominem insults and emotional outbursts ok have at it toss out your best material. Maybe that makes you feel validated but at the end of the day who really cares it is what it is

  11. Pierce Says:

Same ol’ song. No pass rush, secondary suspect, can’t get off the field on third downs, bad running game, slow starts.

Pete and Repeat were on a boat, Pete fell off, who’s left?

  12. Eric Says:

    The damn Rams look terrific……

    This is disgusting beyond belief.

But I fully expect the local hack media to line up the excuses. Because our coach is a straight shooter.

  13. Frogmouth Says:

They can celebrate today but they didn’t get to celebrate in February when it counted. Stats are for losers has Raheem Morris hit Julio Jones with that line yet lol I’ll be there when it hurts to watch, and I’ll enjoy the victories. Those few that come. I genuinely didn’t have much expectations of this team gaging from the schedule, and inadequate offering of pass rushers on the roster the usual collection of stiffs

  14. Waterboy Says:

    @Buc_The_World

I was thinking the same thing.

  15. B Coburn Says:

Yeah we do start slow… but honestly how bad would the final score look if the other team kept their foot on our throats for the full 60

  16. Waterboy Says:

Chris Baker was signed at 6 mil a year as a rotational player to replace Akeem Spence he was never expected to be Calais Campbell (16 mil a year). If you want to point a finger at someone it should be at Licht for passing on Campbell. Baker was never the player that a lot of people want him to be and that’s not his fault.

  17. 813bucboi Says:

That’s coaching!!!… poor coaching has the team coming out flat and slow…. harbaugh can fix that!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  18. godzilla13 Says:

The slow starts are a direct reflection of the players and coaching staff. More than anything else the GM has no accountability. . Lets see..Carolina’s Kaelin Clay returns a punt 60 yards for a TD. Detroit’s Akeem Spence looks in great shape and was dominating the LOS against the Vikings. Swaggy? Another player out of shape and a terrible FA signing. If this teams ownership wanted to win why would they not try to go after Sammy Watkins, Kelvin Benjamin, Andrew Whitworth, AJ Bouye, Connor Barwin, Alshon Jeffery or Marcell Darious? There were such high expectations for this year and now one has to wonder if this team will ever be that team we all thought and hoped they could be?

  19. Mike Johnson Says:

The Bucs are like that Sci-Fi movie where Tom Cruise keeps falling to sleep repeating his same ol death..time and time again. Stuck in a never ending cycle of losing repetiveness. And Next up? A mad Green Bay team..in Green Bay..How do you spell 4-8?

  20. Destinjohnny Says:

Any player 50 pounds over his playing weight has no say about anything

  21. jerseybuc Says:

So let me get this straight. We start out slow every week and get down 20 points, then we come out in the second half and can’t stop the other team on 3rd down but ONE TIME?
Reminds me of my high school basketball career. I may have been a little short but I wasn’t very fast.
