Props To Mike Smith

October 29th, 2017

Dialed up strong game.

Can’t pin this loss on Mike Smith or the defense.

The Bucs defensive coordinator still couldn’t find a way to get a pass rush (what edge rush?) though Joe did notice that early in the game, Robert Ayers was able to come within five feet of pouty Cam Newton while he was in the pocket.

With no pass rush, with no Brent Grimes, with no Robert McClain, Joe thought surely the Bucs defense was going to get torched badly today, real badly.

Alas, Smith found a way to bottle up the Stinking Panthers and it was a one-score game until the fourth quarter. Finally, the too many three-and-outs, dropped passes and dumb penalties the Bucs offense delivered throughout the game took a toll on the defense.

This was the best defensive effort the team has had since the loss to the Belicheats. And just like that loss to the Belicheats, the offense couldn’t get on track and take advantage.

And now, let the draft talk commence once again before Halloween.

It’s a Bucs tradition!

I’ll give Smith props for changing up his approach but the d-lines still stinks.GMac getting tripped teamed and no one else shows up

  2. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Was it really Mike Smith? Or was it just a below average Panthers offense that hadn’t scored a touchdown on 14 straight drives before playing us?

  3. SeattleBuc Says:

    Perennial suckfest continues.

  4. dooshlarue Says:

    Exactly Blake!

  5. The Buc Realist Says:

Just like last year, Coach Smitty brought out a good defense with missing parts!!!!! Bucs really have to fix the lines to compete for next year!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Rrsrq Says:

The last TD to Benjamin was just too much time to throw, simple as that

  8. NJBucsFan Says:

I see this team being very similar to the Colts since they drafted Luck. Poor D and offensive line play will always hurt this team.

  9. 813bucboi Says:

Only took Smitty 6 games to figure out our CB’s play better up at the LOS…. Cam missed a lot of passes underneath too…. Their offense ain’t special…. They run the ball and play good defense…. We knew that and couldn’t stop them…. This staff is a joke….GO BUCS!!!

  10. Season Is Over Says:

Yes, I wonder who gets the game ball.

  11. Smokeymountainbucfan Says:

NO one gets the game ball. Pop it.

  12. Smokeymountainbucfan Says:

If I were the Glazers I’d be pissed Tuesday when I’m signing paychecks.

  13. Phillybuc Says:

Drew Brees is already licking his chops to face this “0 pressure” D he’ll throw for over 400! No pass for anyone on this team, they suck.

  14. Mike Says:

BUCS SUCKKKKKKK WE REALLLY REALLLLY SUCKKKKKKK. BUCS SUCKKKKK WE REALLLLY REALLLY SUCK. FIRE OWNERS FIRE GM FIRE COACH FIRE ANYONE THAT EXISTS ON THIS LOSING TEAM

  15. JonBuc Says:

It was just what reeling Cam Newton and the sluggish Panthers needed…a game vs the Bucs.

  16. bucs_365 Says:

Tank the season for draft picks.

  17. Not there yet Says:

No one gets props for a loss and this won’t save your job, it just shows you do have talented players if you’re not running a high school defense

  18. JWBUCS Says:

Never fails that this team can find a way to lose… I am very disappointed… Tom Brady could put 55 points on the board every week with these weapons! Really tragic situation!

  19. darin Says:

    Bucs 365
If u havnt noticed they are already tanking the season. If they try to tank it theyll probably screw it up and win some. Yep mike smith had a good game. Of course offense blew. What a terrible season amid high hopes. If dirk survives i hope they train next training camp

  20. FortMyersDave Says:

Now next week watch what happens: the Bucs will wake up on O and score 4 TDs via Jameis and Martin adds a rushing TD with a couple of FGs for 41 points while the defense allow Brees and company to pile on for 6 or so Tds and the Buc still lose by a 45-41 score or so and covering what will probably be a 7 to 10 Saint line so that everyone who bet against the Bucs to lose get burned as well. This is creamsicle Bucs football. Like Coach M in Gaineville perhaps this coaching regime bottomed out…..

  21. Not Joe Says:

This team is hot garbage and Jameis should go back to FSU!! He sucks and they suck so they belong together. We dont need him. Fitz magic until we can draft Barkely and Darnold in the 2nd round next year.

  22. Defense Rules Says:

@Blake_BucsFan … “Was it really Mike Smith? Or was it just a below average Panthers offense.”

Bucs’ offense lost the turnover battle (3-1) and the TOP battle 32-28 mins). And oh ya, put a whopping 3 pts on the board. But hey, the Bucs’ D gave up 17 pts so the loss is obviously Smitty’s fault. And oh ya, GMC too.

  23. Joeypoppems Says:

Its not like the Panthers are coming in as the greatest show on turf or anything like that.

Their offense is below average and as much as we (myself included) complain about our run game, the Panther’s run gameis worse.

Congrats Mike Smith. You slowed a mediocrr offense

  24. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Someone please explain to me how Tandy can go from being NFL’s Castro player of the week, intercepting passes, leading team in tackles 2 or 3 games last season, playing like an All Pro and leading a defense to a strong finish last year to not even seeing the field this season. We have lost 5 games now, 2 I know he was injured but the other 3 of the 5 he has been held out of play by Smith in favor of me player Ward, rookie Evans who got manhandled today on Carolinas touchdown and really hasn’t done anything since hes been inserted into line up due to Tandy’s and Wards injury. Today Conte plays probably his best game and Smith plays Ward and Evans 80 percent of the snaps and Conte 20 percent and Tandy didn’t see the field. Talk about loyalty for the success Tandy helped with the winning last year. Don’t get it. If he doesn’t get his starting Safety spot back I hope the Bucs lose the rest of their games this season. If I were Tandy I would hope that next Tuesday I was traded to a contender so I could laugh at these damn clowns that call themselves Coaches, Kotter and Smith both.

  25. Saskbucs Says:

What was Ryan Smith doing on that TD? Earlier the Bucs give up way too much space underneath on a 3rd and 9! It happened again on another 3rd I believe and so 3rd and 14, they finally decide to cover inside 10 yards from LOS!!!? Smith just stays in flat and lets Kelvin take a rookie safety 1 on 1. Am I missing something here.
