Jameis To Start Despite Re-injured Wing

It is all systems go Sunday for America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, despite re-injuring his throwing shoulder against the Bills.

That’s the word from Bucs coach Dirk Koetter. While appearing on “Late Hits” last night, co-hosted by Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Koetter mentioned Jameis, who bruised the AC joint in his throwing shoulder against Arizona two weeks ago and had to leave the game, re-injured the same shoulder in the first half at Buffalo last Sunday.

“He played very well, especially in the second half against Buffalo,” Koetter explained. “We did have that one sack-fumble in the first half [6:36 of the second quarter] and he kind of re-injured it.”

Koetter added Jameis also has a bruised deltoid muscle in his throwing shoulder.

Koetter said this is why Jameis only threw in Friday’s practice this week. Koetter expects this to be a pattern in practices in the immediate future until Jameis’ shoulder can “calm down.”

Team doctors do not believe Jameis’ limited practice schedule will continue through the end of the season, Koetter said.

Not only is this news to Joe, both the re-injured shoulder and the bruised deltoid muscle, but look at what Jameis did under duress.

The previous week he couldn’t finish the first half because of his injury. At Buffalo, not only did he finish the game, he had one of his best games of his young career. All with a bum wing. Against a damn good defense. On the road. And still gave the Bucs a touchdown lead late.

I think this game will come down to the play of the teams defenses.

    DONAVAN SMITHITIS

    Seasons over
    Let it heal

  5. Clodhopper Says:

Perfect conditions against a weak Pats D, he was bad for three quarters. Hurt shoulder against a great Bills D, hes great.

    Jameis is an enigma!!

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Didn’t want Jameis to play last week because I was concerned he’d injure his throwing shoulder even more before it had time to truly heal. And yes, was one of only a handful who wanted to start Fitz to give Jameis’ should time to really heal. But no, let Jameis play because he’s a warrior & he gives us our best chance of winning. How’d that work out for us?

“Look at what Jameis did under duress” says Joe.? Yes, Jameis had a great game, but put it in perspective please. We lost AND Jameis aggravated his throwing shoulder injury even more, unnecessarily jeopardizing not just the rest of this season but his career. And Koetter for his part “expects this to be a pattern in practices in the near future until Jameis’ shoulder can “calm down.” YGBSM.

  7. Kobe Faker Says:

Also poster Doctor Shroud and Kobe Faker MD like to add that Koetter the clown suffers from severe foot-in-mouthitis…

    Symptoms:

Telling the opponents to target the shoulder that was reinjured and now another part of the shoulder is damaged

    @ Defense
Understand your concern but ,Jameis did have a very good half of football on a “kind of reiinjured shoulder”. Not sure what that means, but it was an inspired effort in the second half with no evidence of shoulder soreness. Have to say
Jameis crossed a milestone in the second half , He was confident and poised
against one of the better defenses in the league. With all our problems on defense we will need inspired play from whatever QB takes the field.
Selfishly I would like to see Jameis pick up where he left off , if Drs. give him a go.

“There was no doubt velocity of Jameis passes was lower during the buff game”

  11. BFFL Says:

Need to be careful here. You don’t want another Andrew Luck situation. It would be naive to think jw wont take hits every week and his shoulder develops into something much worse and more chronic.

  12. Bob in Valrico Says:

On defense we gave up some of our biggest plays with our makeshift
three man front. It kind of shows what they think of Baker, Because a more
traditional lineup would have had a runstopper anchoring the line. If we don’t
get better play from our corners may need a safety to play there due to bad play or injuries. I am thinking “Evans” because of his ball skills. Think VH3 doesn’t want to play press, because he has already been beaten by
bigger WR’s that we play in college.

Good morning Tampa Bay: wow all the previous should put their money where their mouth is and bet CAROLINA heavy. Man, I think the Bucs could and will likely find a way to lose but looking at the Carolina websites things are as chaotic up there. They have a “Buford T Justice” who sells his season tickets to opponents over the flag and brags about the profit, they have posters who think Cam should be benched, they have many who think its time for River Ron to go “South”, they have a petition to fire Baby Shula, they have posts about how ironic it would be if Aguoyo (who might kick for Carolina) beats the Bucs as revenge for one of the 2 garbage wins Tampa got over Carolina, etc. Carolina nation is a lot like JBF, lots of opinions and love for their team with the trickle of trolls and morons with their own agendas… Given the negativity I read about how fans in the Carolinas feel about their Panthers I can see why the betting line for our game only moved from bucs -2.5 to Even but the Bucs -130 (essentially a money line). people nationwide think the Panther suck almost as bad as Tampa thus the line has not done a Bear dive like last year when Chicago homers drove a -2.5 Buc fave line to Chicago by 2.5 at gametime, a 5 point move that cost a lot of Bear faithful coin, serious coin…. I hope the Bucs win Sunday but in the battle of Mike Smith vs Baby Shula you have to say Shula wins out and the D gets exploited again……

  14. Bob in Valrico Says:

    Kobe
Don’t know if thats accujrate or not on the decreased velocity. But” taking a
a Little off ” might prove to be beneficial when he gets backs to full strengtht\.

  15. Kobe Faker Says:

    @Bob

Actually I thought his touch passes was much better in the buff game…When it needed more air

However some of his straight line throws seemed it took longer to get to and was almost intercepted

I’m really questioning these college coaches that are teaching jameis the techniques. I really hope we bring a longtime NFL qualified QB coach ala Norco turner

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

The Bucs will not be satisfied until Jameis is out indefinitely with that shoulder. And it will happen. Instead of resting the guy a couple of games, they just clear him to play weekly. Little do they know he’s one big hit away from ending his season. They should have rested him a game or 2. Instead its, Jameis will save the day at all cost. And the Bucs will pay..one way or the other. Mark me words on this one.

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

How long before a headhunter takes him out for the season?

I understand the need to start him, but man, I hope they give him extra protection!

They can always pull him out if he isn’t playing well or the shoulder is bothering him too badly.

Frankly, I think this injury has improved his game so far. He has better touch on the ball…which is why he connected with DJax I believe.

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Kobe Faker

I can’t see Norm Turner coming to Tampa. He would have to be OC and call the plays…frankly I don’t see Koetter giving up play calling.

On top of that, Turner is always in talks about getting a HC job, even though he sucks as a head coach. The threat of him leaving each year will be there.

    Kobe Faker Says
“There was no doubt velocity of Jameis passes was lower during the buff game”

Kobe is 100 percent right here. It isn’t a lot lower…just enough to improve his touch.

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Jameis had his second best rating of the year in Buffalo. There is a reason for that. 112%

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    And his highest passing percentage.

  23. Kobe Faker Says:

    @BB

yes his touch throws was better

  24. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs fans' Says:

Jameis really man’d up and played well last week.

Complimentary football would have won us game… Eh-hem, cough cough (defense, Hump)

  25. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs fans' Says:

And yes Donovan Smith got embarrassed few times last week.

He looked like he had the ole Byron Leftwich Leadfoot Disease

  26. denjoe Says:

Do we even have a chance without Grimes and McClain?
I Hope VH3 takes back his starting job by going out there
and balling! Hopefully Ryan Smith has gotten better too.
Elliot has been descent in the slot before but it doesn’t
look good. Time To Pray, This is the season right here
C’mon Buc’s Man Up and Defend your House! Please,
Please, Please Show up and kick some butt!!!!!!

  27. Seminole Bill Says:

Why, oh why, didn’t Koetter sit Jameis for the Buffalo game so he could heal properly?

  28. NFLNut Says:

    *****************

We all see what Jimbo Fisher and the Noles are post-Jameis … garbage. People are calling for Jimbo to be fired and saying ALL of his success was just due to Jameis … could it be that even Koetter’s pedestrian 11-11 record was just due to Jameis’ greatness and that with an average QB Koetter’s record would be more like 5-17? Could be … I still like Koetter but man I wouldn’t complain if Arians left Arizona and was hired as head coach … Arians loves Jameis and has talked about “the legend of Jaboo” in the past and they go back a ways … just saying.

  29. BushidoEvans Says:

Its so funny seeing these couch doctors diagnosis Jameis. Obviously you guys don’t know how this type of injury behaves, so sit back amd let the professionals do their job here. Thanks 🙂

  30. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    Sit the man

The Bucs aren’t going to the playoffs this year, even if JW is totally healthy. They need a couple more drafts and time to come together. Why risk his shoulder to permanent injury? Stupid.

  31. papadoc Says:

As a retired doctor of 42 years I will simple say this. The A/C joint is practically bone to bone held together by ligaments only. Injury to said joint signifies some degree of tearing leaving the joint suspectible to further tearing. One good hit and kiss him goodby for several weeks.

  32. Patrick Says:

I’m at a bar watching the Bucs game. On the other TV, I’m watching the Buffalo Bills winning a blowout against the Raiders.

I’m not a Bills fan but it’s nice to see that one team appears to have turned things around from their losing ways.
