Vikings 34, Buccaneers 17

September 24th, 2017

Plenty of cushion for Vikings receivers today

Football is a team game and boy, did the Buccaneers lose as a team today.

They hit all the marks. Bad quarterback play complemented by just nine rushes. Throw in no pass rush and brutal cornerback play and Vikings fans had a quite a blowout party.

Sadly, these conference losses are killers when it comes to playoff tiebreakers in January.

Joe’s not going all doom and gloom, but if you can’t beat Case Keenum — and get torched by him — that hardly inspires confidence.

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, had three picks and all three were on him. Bad throws. Too short on a touchdown throw to DeSean Jackson, a pass to nowhere, and with the Bucs still in the hunt in the fourth quarter, Jameis locked in on Mike Evans in triple coverage. Former Bucs great Booger McDonald was very down on that throw, per his Twittering at the time.

Essentially, the Bucs got punched in the mouth by a better football team.

But the Bucs lost more than the game here today, as injuries piled up on defensive big time: Gerald McCoy, Lavonte David and Noah Spence.

Stick with Joe for much more out of this game, which unfortunately resembled the Bucs getting brutalized in Arizona in their second game last season.

Thanks to DeSean Jackson and Mike Evans this Bucs Team Got Exactly what they deserve!

  2. Jeffrey Yoemans Says:

Winston has proven again what a joke he is.

  3. unbelievable Says:

No JW, the whole team got their butts whooped. Idiotic thinking.

  4. Greg Says:

Jameis kinda sucks… and every able body on our defense got hurt

  5. CitruscountyBUC Says:

Jameis was not sharp. However the defense was absolutely brutal today!

  6. IndyBucsFan Says:

No Thien is on Winston. He was asked to go toe to toe with Keenum and he lost

  7. Iamkingsu Says:

    @jwbucs

    Shut up

  8. LovieBall Says:

Winston, Ryan, and Newton all with 3 INTs today.

  9. Bird Says:

Let’s start calling him Florida’s quarterback

America s qb is too funny

  10. Jeffrey Yoemans Says:

Winston has proven again what a joke he is. He always finds a way to lose

  11. unbelievable Says:

Defense didn’t show up until the 4th quarter and was ravaged with injuries.

    Jameis was not good.

    Zero run game.

Kinda hard to win with that. And the refs effed us every way possible. That first TD run by cook? Cmon man.

  12. ColonelAngus Says:

Looks like the same ol’ Bucs, no pass rush, Jameis chunking up picks, no blocking up front, GMac hurt…time for the Bucs to grab their balls and see what they are made of. Go Bucs

  13. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’m done. Winston wasn’t great, but I’m more pissed about the D. All offseason long we’ve heard about all of our depth. Well, we used our depth tonight, and it’s not depth, it’s trash. Maybe 8 or 9 wins if we’re lucky, but no playoffs again.😢

  14. JP4 Says:

America’s QB? Mariota doesn’t throw that ugly 3rd qtr pick! Face it, Joes, Winston is not ALL THAT! He is the second coming of Favre, he has ALWAYS played that way, ALWAYS will. The deep throw INTs will continue. With Favre, the HC and OC always knew Favre needed help (good OL, good running game, solid defense). Without those, Favre was pedestrian, at best. Give those to Winston, he can win Super Bowls, but without them, Winston is not a QB who will take you back from 17 points down. In fact, at that point, without strong help, Winston is MORE likely to throw the fatal pick! This is the fate of Bucs fans with the selection of Winston, and it will go on. Winston can be a championship QB (Favre is in the HOF), but he needs more help than somebody like Mariota would.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

I think I know what happened… the ghost of Tony Dungy cursed the team over the team putting Gruden in the ring of honor before Dungy got in, which is disgraceful of the Bucs to do that. So the ghost of Dungy used his Vikings connections to curse the team…

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Winston was fine today – you can’t go down huge against a top defense on the road, be put in obvious passing situations, and expect that you’re going to do well. If you’ve watched football before then you’d know that.

  17. Mike Johnson Says:

As an ole Buc fan since conception, I don’t and never have believed all the hype this website hits on for our Bucs. I don’t blame the loss on Winston. Where was the defense in the 1st half? And lets give it up for Mr Keenum..Buc K-I-L-L-E-R extrordonaire!! We are not ready for our next step yet. Maybe in a couple of years. I had us finishing 8-8 this season. And I’m still there. NEXT!!

  18. The Anomaly Says:

Who was the moron who said NE was going to lose?

  19. JP4 Says:

And yes, everybody saw that early post of the ‘game was a travesty’ article. You pulled it quick, but still….oops!

  20. WeAreLost Says:

Mariota? we still on that crap. Mariota has yet to finish a full season.

  21. NFLNut Says:

JAMEIS’ 3rd pick is exactly why I love him as a QB and absolutely believe he will go down as an all-time great!

The pass was great and on the money and all but that’s not what I love most … what I love most is that he threw THAT pass at all. Believe me, there are a ton of NFL QBs (Dak and Mariota prime among them) that would probably never even consider throwing that pass in that situation … why … because the game is basically out of reach and it will likely hurt their “stats”.

It was the same thing last year in Dallas … Jameis made sure his hail mary at the end of the first half was in play and catchable, as well as the last gasp throw in the 4th quarter … both happened to be picked … and he didn’t care as he doesn’t care at all about “stats”, he will simply do whatever it takes to try and win the game, stats be damned AND I LOVE IT!

A game like this tells me way more about Jameis than any easy game like last week and I am happy to ride with Jameis for the next 15-20 years!

    WeAreLost Says:
Mariota? we still on that crap. Mariota has yet to finish a full season.

Not really applicable. We are talking about on field play, not durability. Bucs didn’t pass on Mariota because they thought he wasn’t durable. Welcome to the conversation ‘Lost’.

  23. NFLNut Says:

Come on Detroit … beat Atlanta!

  24. Supersam Says:

We made the wrong choice, Winston is average at best.

  25. Rod Munch Says:

I think most of the people commenting are women who are on their period 24/7, I mean they know almost nothing about football and they’re overly emotional about everything.

    R-E-L-A-X…

    Relax.

This was a very good defense on the road – the Bucs never win this game, ever. The offense wasn’t the issue, Winston wasn’t the issue however, he played fine, the issue was the god awful performance by the defense missing a bunch of starters.

Everything will be fine – drink some cranberry juice and take a midol and R-E-L-A-X…

  26. Jim Says:

Jameis “I gotta look good” Winston, the “Face of the NFL” didn’t look that good today.

  27. NFLNut Says:

    FALCONS LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They should be 1-2 with losses to the BEARS and Lions now, but I’ll take 2-1 over 3-0 any day!

  28. JP4 Says:

    Rod Munch Says:
I think most of the people commenting are women who are on their period 24/7, I mean they know almost nothing about football and they’re overly emotional about everything.

Munch – Dissing women? Don’t like them, eh? What is it you’re munching? I think I know…

  29. NFLNut Says:

Ah, crap … come on Lions!

  30. Rod Munch Says:

Are you f-ing kidding me! The refs just literally gave the Falcons a Win. Holy Jesus what BS!

  31. Rod Munch Says:

JP4 – It’s OK sweetheart, I know you’re triggered, but it will be OK. LOL!

  32. TheLittleGrayCells Says:

People ragging on Jameis are idiots and don’t have a clue what football is. 1st pick was on him no question. 2nd pick was on Jackson, no question. Just watch the route and you will see Jackson get shoved off of his route and as a result it is a pick. 3rd one was in Evans hands and then went through it. Did you want to try to win the game or kick a FG?

  33. NFLNut Says:

Well, Falcons 3-0 … I was following game on GameCast …. man, the dirty birds should be 1-2 but champs (and they’re at least NFC champs) pull out the close ones … even with their QB throwing 3 picks as Matt Ryan did today

  34. JP4 Says:

Munch – triggered? No. Just making a simple comment on your idiotic opinion. Yup, I’m fine, thanks. You?

  35. Rod Munch Says:

NFLNut – The Lions scored a TD with 8 seconds to go – the ball broke the goal line and it was called a TD on the field – then they go to replay and claim the ball didn’t break the goal line which you can clearly see it did, and then they say because there is only 8 seconds left the game is over. Unbelievable BS call by the refs, there absolutely was no evidence to overturn the call. If I was in Detroit I’d be rioting right now, I mean they riot there anyways, but this was one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen.

  36. NFLNut Says:

Rod Munch … comment of the day! I LOVE IT and you are right on the money. Week-to-week fans that can’t see the big picture bother me.

OJ Howard was the right pick and I don’t care if Dalvin wins ROY, OJ was still the right pick … though I fully admit we should have moved up to get Dalvin in the 2nd which I said on draft day

Jameis is a phenom and the greatest and most accomplished QB of his age in history … but … he will drive you nuts from time to time … enjoy the ride

The problem is the pass defense … it sucks, period. TRADE for Richard Sherman or Trumaine Johnson NOW!

  37. NFLNut Says:

The WORST result of the day … the Giants lost … yet the Eli to OBJ connection came on super strong late in the game and the Giants are going to be FIRED UP LIKE CRAZY to beat us and not start the season 0-4 … crap, I was really hoping the Giants would beat the Eagles …

  38. MadMax Says:

    hhahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. MadMax Says:

fk you glazers for supporting it!

  40. JP4 Says:

TheLittleGrayCells – yes, I want a QB to try to win and not play for FG position, but Winston has had issues with his accuracy since high school, why does the Winston camp not see this? It will be his legacy 12 more years from now. He just gets too excited in the pocket, and can’t put it on target with the kind of consistency of a Matt Ryan (or Mariota). That means he needs MORE help from D, OL, RB, WR, etc. I am NOT saying he sucks! I am saying he is not accurate, and I don’t think he ever will be (consistently). You’ve gotta game-plan around that, and so far, Koetter & Licht haven’t given him everything he needs to be successful. I am not putting it on Winston, he is who he is, and you have to work with it.

  41. Rod Munch Says:

The central officiating is a complete failure – giving the Falcons a W is the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen since the Bert Emanuel catch. Wow… Arthur Blank must have opened up his purse for that call, because that was terrible.

  42. NFLNut Says:

RodMunch … thanks for the explanation … and I just saw the reply and you are 100% right … that was OBVIOUSLY a TD and the Lions got screwed, wow …

  43. NFLNut Says:

JP4 … you’re wrong. Winston and Mariota’s comp % was almost identical last year and that was with Winston playing under constant pressure and MM playing in a clean pocket all year long … and today Winston completed 70% and has 2 drops … again, you’re just wrong.

By the way, many of the all-time greats were NOT guys you’d consider the most accurate QBs … accurate guys are Chad Pennington, Sam Bradford, Alex Smith, etc …. all-time greats that were anything but “accurate” are guys like Bradshaw, Elway, Favre, etc.

So, yeah, um … you’re wrong.

  44. Poor Glennon Says:

Freeman had a bad day today!!

  45. NFLNut Says:

BEARS almost beat Falcons … just BEAT THE STEELERS … and got utterly dominated by us … as my man RodMunch might say, “take the long-term view manginas and stop freaking out week to week”!

  46. JP4 Says:

Munch says – ‘ If I was in Detroit I’d be rioting right now…’

Once again, the Philistines will hate on logic. Tate’s knee obviously WAS down before he got the ball across the plane (that’s the geometric plane, not an airplane, Phil). Detroit had no TOs left, & 10 sec runoff is required to assess the play – Detroit would not have had time to run another play, anyway. It was 4th down, so Stafford did not have the option to spike. Result – game over.

  47. NFLNut Says:

The Bears ran for 220 yards against the Steelers today … they ran for 20 against us when we had all our starters … everyone needs to chill … if we’re healthy, we’re a scary good team.

  48. Rod Munch Says:

JP4 – Yeah kiddo, I know the rules and I saw the play and no, it wasn’t “obvious” his new was down before the tip of the ball crossed touched the white of the goal line, there was no replay they showed that showed that and to overturn the call you must have conclusive evidence – so unless they have angles we didn’t see on TV, they blew the call – just like the blew the call with Cook who fumbled it before he got into the endzone on the opening drive.

  49. Rod Munch Says:

I’m watching NFL Redzone and they just showed Mariota throwing the ball and it was high! He’s awful, they need to cut him, he’s a complete bust!!!

  50. Mo_Downs Says:

Bucs defense was injured and couldn’t make-up for the lack of …uh…quality back-ups.

Joe Mixon should have been all ours in the draft. Expecting our OL to be great was a mistake.

    What happened to Barber..??
    What happened to OJ..??
    What happened to Godwin..??

    Jameis needs to….???
    Dirk needs to…???
Mike Smith for DC of the year..??

Multiple injuries on defense, both before and during this game, are the reason for this loss. The McCoy hate is just foolish and ignorant.

  51. JP4 Says:

NFLNut – I’m just wrong? I respect that you have an opposing opinion, but you have in no way PROVEN me ‘wrong’. That’s just Trump-speak. Bradshaw & Elway, you bring up QBs from a long-past era – the NFL doesn’t play that game, anymore. Rules have changed, it’s a new day. Those guts operated within the system of the time, Elway WAS great, Bradshaw was not (he fit the Steelers system). Favre was…Favre. EXACTLY what I am saying, Winston is another Brett Favre, not another Tom Brady or John Elway.

  52. tmaxcon Says:

no team will ever win consistently with cancer93 on the roster….

No kwon no defense… just a long list of excuses for the often injured always soft mccoy. again no kwon no defense and the overpaid face of the basement years gets a free pass. 93 is a proven career loser that does not rise to the occasion nor make players around him better. the defense lost this game before jameis looked like mcclown.

  53. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

That loss was a result of injuries, bad calls and a horrible game by Jameis.

Doesn’t mean things won’t get much better. No one will care about this game in February when we play in the SB.

  54. JP4 Says:

Munch says – ‘his new was down before the tip of the ball crossed touched the white of the goal line’

OK, man. Don’t get all excited and look to slip in words like ‘tip’, ‘touched’ & ‘white’ & ‘goal’. I get it, I get it. We can move on…

But, he did not get the TD on that play. Much as we all would’ve preferred that the Lions win. I deal with reality, instead of hiding in fantasy.

  55. Poor Glennon Says:

Nfl nut…..and the Bears were a goalline dropped pass. Away from beating the dominant Falcons. So that would have had Glennon at 2-1 with garbage stats. Someday you will learn that it’s ALL about wins. Stats are for lossers. He made bad decisions all day. Looked good and padded stats garbage time. But i swear some of you don’t care if we win. As long as Winston can throw for over 300yards.

  56. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We had more injuries than that:

    Gerald McCoy
    Noah Spence
    Lavante David
    Robert Ayers
    TJ Ward
    Ryan Smith
    Vernon Hargreaves

And lets not forget the ones who were on the injury list already:

    Kwon Alexander
    Brent Grimes
    Chris Baker

    All on defense.

  57. DBS Says:

Laugh a little to Fast at Glennon last week did you there Joe? Hey.#Weapons For Winston looks great ON PAPER! What excuses you want to use now?? Your America’s QB is garbage. He is not even a good Bucs QB yet!

  58. Cobraboy Says:

Three pics won’t win many games. No INT’s and you have a shootout with the Vikes instead of a blowout loss.

BTW: I thought the refs blew Cooks first TD.

  59. Rod Munch Says:

This game is why you don’t celebrate W’s against top defenses on the road before it actually happens.

I do believe that would cover like 85% of the posters here who said we’d have a cakewalk. There is no easy W on the road against top defenses, ever. If the Bucs defense does their job (and by that I mean they cut Ryan Smith at halftime) then the game is close and the Bucs can establish a running game and not be in obvious passing downs for 3 1/2 quarters.

  60. Rod Munch Says:

OMG Rodgers just threw an INT that was returned for a TD! He’s terrible, he’s the worst ever, cut him now!

  61. Rod Munch Says:

Seattle just totally tried to take a cheap shot out of bounds on Mariota, but missed.

  62. Rod Munch Says:

The commentator in the Seattle/Titans game just said Mariota is “as tough as they come”. LOL! No he’s not, he spends most of the season on IR.

Sherman tried to get a cheapshot on Mariota however – real garbage play, will be shocked if the Titans don’t try to break his leg.

  63. NFLNut Says:

JP4 … please explain to me what you feel the main differences between Elway and Favre were as the way I see it, Favre was more accurate than Elway who you consider “great” …

There isn’t a QB that has ever played the game of football that is better or more accomplished than Jameis at Jameis’ current age … so I am confident in the young man’s future, I’m simply not expecting him to play like a 33 year old, 12 year veteran when he’s 23 in his 3rd season …

  64. JP4 Says:

NFLNut Says: ‘There isn’t a QB that has ever played the game of football that is better or more accomplished than Jameis at Jameis’ current age…’

Wow! You DO live in a fantasy world you’ve created out of half-remembered Madden NFL games.
    Brady>Winston
    Ryan>Winston
    Rapelsberger>Winston
    Manning (older one)>Winston
    Rodgers>Winston
    Wilson>Winston
Hell, even m-fricken Stafford>Winston if you discount 2010 (lost to injury)

They may not have more yds than Winston through 34 games, but they ALL won more games. You can talk numbers all you want, doesn’t count for $.h.t.

  65. Mo_Downs Says:

Well, I’m glad we got our only loss this season out of the way.

The Koetter/Smith Super Bowl Express is right on schedule.

Don’t want the troops to get the big head.

Really great strategy to save OJ and Godwin for the playoffs.

    Our fans ain’t no crybabies…!!!

    15-1, BABY..!!

    SUPER BOWL..!!

    Free Tacos for the Bucs..!!

  66. Jeff Says:

    They kneel, I walk

  67. Greg Says:

Mo_downs, you obviously didn’t see where Godwin literally crapped his pants on the first catch he made did you? Guy obviously was sick with the flu.

  68. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

Gosh…I really cringed at the thought of having to read all of the fantasy playing, couch sitting no playing, unrealistic, nonFANatic, posters take on this loss. Oh and Jameis haters 😝

@rod munch…I agree with most of all your postings except the women
    Comment😶

It’s real football, a violent unpredictable game that is not played or watched by perfect people. It’s a game where other factors help determine the outcome; noise, wind, play calling, rep calling or not calling, injuries, wrong routes, receiver pushed, ball tipped, bad snaps, taking risks…NONE OF THESE THINGS are fantasy or predictable!

Buc FAN win or lose. GO BUCS☠
