“We Would Have Planned Training Camp Totally Different”

September 15th, 2017

Curveball thrown

Winning head coach Dirk Koetter is known behind the scenes at One Buc Palace as an intense detail guy, a meticulous planner.

So rest assured this whole hurricane-induced bye week fiasco really kicked him in the groin.

Koetter won’t say that, but he sure hinted at it this afternoon at One Buc Palace.

“We would have planned training camp totally different had we known we were having a bye Week 1. Right? We wouldn’t have done it that way,” Koetter said. “Maybe we would have played our guys in preseason [Game] 4. You gotta remember, we didn’t know that. Ok. We didn’t know any of that. Alright, we found that out on Wednesday [Sept. 6], the last day we kissed [the players] goodbye. Every time I’ve been there you’ve known your bye week about eight months in advance. We knew ours about one day in advance.”

Well, at least the Bucs got it a little easy with the Bears and a home game Week 2. It could have been, say, a road game against a good team.

Throw in the fact the Bucs played the Bears in mid-November and they know all about one-dimensional Mike Glennon, and this Bears match-up is about the best the Bucs could have hoped for coming off a screwy week. Only the Jets and Josh McCown would have been preferable.

Sounds like GMC wrote that article with all the excuses pasted in there.

    And here come the trolls

Did I stumble into a Bears chat? Damn negative Nancy’s.

@Joe … “It could have been, say, a road game against a good team.” Really concerns me when media & fans make assumptions like this Joe. Implication (and thus assumption) in that statement is that the Bears aren’t a good team. Folks said the same thing about the Rams in 2015 & 2016, and they whooped us both years. Not because of their offense, but because of their defense. Chicago’s defense this year is H-U-G-E compared to the Bucs (do a position-by-position comparison and you’ll see what I mean). Their starting secondary is tall & very experienced (except for a rookie starting safety from Bama). Their DLine is quite a bit bigger than ours, as is their LB corps. Might well be tough running against them (as the Falcons found out?) I’m sure we’ve probably got the ‘quickness & speed’ advantage on both offense & defense, but if it comes down to smash-mouth football, I’d be worried. Still think we’ll win, but it’ll be a much tougher game IMO than some folks seem to think.

bucs have to earn the right to call any game a winnable or should win game. Although the blind optimists with selective memory have already forgotten how many should have won games have ended up embarrassing blowouts especially under the leadership of cancer93 the face of the basement years.

    ………………..
    What? Are you Tmax’s girlfriend?

  8. IndyBucsFan Says:

WTF. This has nothing to do with GMC. Why do you loser fans even bring his name up?

  9. Dewey Selmon Says:

I watched some bad rusty football teams last week. It might be a 6-3 game at halftime. Just be prepared for anything.

  10. D-Rome Says:

I agree with this. The game against the Rams was supposed to be winnable last year. Same with the Saints game in New Orleans.

  11. Lord Cornelius Says:

It’s a legit grievance for a coach to have.

    F*ck off trolls.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

For the panicky Petes out there keep in mind that Winston hasn’t played with Evans and Jackson for a month now… they didn’t play in games 3 and 4 and a bye, so it’s been over a calendar month since they last were on the field together. I really don’t get why people think this is an easy game – Chicago absolutely should have beat the Falcons last week, they had 2 game winning passes dropped. Glennon isn’t going to make a lot of mistakes and the Bears have a very good offensive line and we haven’t seen Grimes play in what, 5 weeks now? The Bears have no NFL talent at WR so that should help the Bucs, but they do have a good TE and a couple of good RBs. The Bucs should pull out the victory but I fully expect them to look awful for the first quarter and I fully expect some bad plays, maybe a TO or two on a miscommunication. There is a reason they play preseason football, and it’s not all because of owner greed.

With all that said if the Bucs come out and destroy the Bears and look sharp, then man, they deserve extra credit for getting that done. But honestly I just don’t see that happening. I hope so, but I have a feeling this will be a nail biter until about midway through the 4th.

  13. DB55 Says:

Last night JJ Watt mentioned that one of the reasons they lost week one to Jacksonville was that they were too hyped up as a team. With everything going on in Houston that week and their desire to win the game for the people of Houston they thought they could win the game on the first play.

Made me think if Tampa will come out the same way and suffer a similar consequence?

There are a few things working against the Bucs this week to say the least luckily they have The Messiah leading the team. I just hope they win, if Glennon comes home to beat the Bucs that may weigh heavily on the minds on the players for who knows how long.

tmax’s devotional man love song to #93GMC has GOT to be Usher’s “you got it bad.” He and ian big mouth beckles could do a duet im sure. Just admit it already maxy, you got “mo love” for GMC than u know what to do with.

  19. BucEmUp Says:

Everyone assumes we will just roll over the bears. I can see it now. Hope the players are not as comftorable as the fans are.

  20. SB Says:

Lol Buc4. I think GMC laid the big pipe to Tmaxi’s wife and the only way he can get over it is to comment here.

  21. Rod Munch Says:

DB55 – I can see this game being a mess, but in fairness what happened here in Tampa was really nothing compared to Houston or even Miami. Outside of losing power nothing happened here – so the idea of being concerned about victims shouldn’t be a legit issue. However the practice schedule being messed up and flying in and out of town as guys fled – I can see that being a real issue, along with stuff like Winston having not played with Evans or Jackson in a month – that too might be a big problem in particular with DJax. I think the Bucs win it in the end, but I expect it to be ugly. I hope I’m wrong and the Bucs destroy the Bears, but I don’t think that’s realistic.

  22. mike n Says:

    20-16 bears

  23. cmurda Says:

There is no such thing as an easy win in the NFL. There are games you should win or should lose on paper but no win comes easy. They are all earned. It’s ignorant for anybody to say the Bears game will be an easy win.

  24. stpetebucsfan Says:

The Falcons were either bored and uninterested in that game against the Bears…understandable…or dare we hope it’s a sign that the Falcons still haven’t recovered from their SB choke.

We’ll know a lot more about the Dixie Chicks this Sunday night when they host the Green Bay Packers. It’s in their shiny new stadium…their home opener and if they can repeat last years 44-21 pounding of the Pack in the NFC Championship game we can assume that yes…the Dixie Chicks are for real.

I’m not going to judge them for phoning in a game against the Bears and showing up with just their “C” game.

  25. BFFL Says:

    42-13…Da Bucs

  26. BigMacAttack Says:

Dirk, you are not alone. Florida is suffering from coast to coast. Especially the elderly in neighborhoods like mine, without power and only neighbors to help them. Dear Bucs, no matter how bad you think it is for you, someone has it worse. In this case almost everyone has it worse. Man up and take care of the business at hand. No excuses, no complaints and especially no whining.

  27. Newbucsfan2 Says:

    Buc up coach.

  28. Buc believer Says:

SB you are SO smart and just SO Funny! I am not even going to try to respond to you. Now go finish your shift washing dishes at the Waffle House before they fire you.

  29. Roy T. Buford Says:

Odd to say, especially after-the-fact. Wonder what’s going on in his head. Everyone knows he didn’t know about the bye week.

  30. Buddy Says:

    Excuses already?? LOLOLOL

  31. Piratic Says:

    @tmaxcon: YOU are the cancer.
    Please go away.

  32. Bob the buc Says:

Lets be real here, if we don’t destroy the bears…. Then we have a big problem. Any good coach could take the talent we have and beat this team.

  33. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

Tmaxcon is literally the dumbest poster I’ve ever read. His thoughts and insights and a roll of used toilet paper are worth exactly as much as a roll of used toilet paper.

  34. LocalJoker Says:

Talk is cheap and winning is not easy! Bucs win 28-6.
