Mike Evans Talks OBJ & Jump Balls

September 27th, 2017

Once upon a time Mike Evans was a “Dunkaneer,” joined by Vincent Jackson and Austin Seferian-Jackwagon.

They were supposed to dominate all the high balls and 50/50 jump balls thrown their way.

Of course, Jackson is out of football and Seferian-Jackwagon is reunited with Josh McCown with the Jets. (He even caught five balls on Sunday!)

Evans remains and the jump balls are scarce around the Buccaneers offense in 2017.

In the locker room today, Evans talked about how he compares to Giants receiving star Odell Beckham, Jr.

“I’m a bit bigger. He’s a bit faster, better after the catch. I’m a bigger guy, better jump balls probably,” Evans said. “He plays with a lot of passion, as well as I. We play with a lot of swag in different areas. He’s more of a dancer, and I’m more of trying to be a tough guy.”

Ok. So Joe followed up to ask about where those jump balls might have disappeared to this season.

“Two games into the season, we’ll have to find out,” Evans said. “I don’t think so. “As a matter of fact, my only two drops were high balls this year. So I’ve got to do better.”

Joe would love to see the Bucs fire up more jump-ball throws to Evans, especially deep balls. The odds should be in his favor consistently. And more 1-on-1 match-ups courtesy of DeSean Jackson’s presence should provide the opportunities.

He also said he is 50/50 on kneeling. He is wishy/washy. So this means he has to take his mind off of football so he can decide. Strip him of his C and let him beat up sideline equipment. again.

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

    Those are very dangerous balls….

  3. Berserker Says:

say you’re sorry like you did last time Evans. We aren’t forgiving you. Boycott NFL. Stand in front of one buc every day loudly playing the national anthem while hold the american flag

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Let’s see some safer, shorter passes to Djax….with his famous YAC…..stop this sideline stuff where there is no YAC at least with Jackson….get him some slant passes over the middle.

  5. firethecannons Says:

Love to see obj freak and kick the watercooler, causing internal injury
the dogpee celebration in the endzone should not be tolerated

  6. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Just do your thing on the field Mike and guys like Beserker will come around. All these Trump guys are all over black guys protesting because it insults our veterans. They forgave their boy for making one of the most disrespectable things ever stated when he said McCain wasn’t a hero because he was weak and got captured. Their boy was dodging the draft, even making fun of it one time on Stern saying that he was trying to dodge STDs during that time. This outrage is mildly racist but if you ball out and the team wins some of this outrage will die down. After all they gave their boy a pass for much worse.

  7. LakeLandBuc Says:

We won’t win many games throwing ‘jump balls’.

  8. Lamarcus Says:

He has to catch any ball for that matter. Those drops are getting old like JW ints. Or worse…. yes I’m still sour from Sunday until next game

  9. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

So do you put down your beer, stop talking and stand up at home and put your hand over your heart when you here the anthem playing in the comfort of your home, when nobody is watching?

You do realize before 2009 the NFL
players in primetime games would remain inside their locker rooms while the anthem was sung, due to timing concerns for the television networks. After 2009, the players in primetime games have been on the field during the anthem!

How about wrestling, is the national anthem played and the wrestlers give reverence, how about other sports?

  10. HarlemBuc Says:

@Touchdown: great comment, had to lol at mildly racist tho…. nah this is garden variety racism… the old fashioned and toothless kind. The kind that doesn’t allow for change because it’s used by cowards who’ll hide behind “patriotism” and “facts”.

  11. HarlemBuc Says:

The kind of racism that has no clue the national anthem has 3 verses…wait until they actually read the third one! Lmao it’s a wonder anyone stands

  12. Ndog Says:

American is so great that if someone hates it so much they can leave. That’s always a option. Quit sitting/kneeling down, if you see a issue do something about it, don’t just act out and show how mad you are like a young child. Do Something or again if one feels it’s so bad, leave there are plenty of other countries.

  13. LakeLandBuc Says:

No one should leave their homeland for protesting, that’s their right. If they wasn’t protesting in the 1700’s, this country will still be under British rule. As long as people are using non-violent methods of protesting. I have no problem with it, no one should have a problem with it. this country was built on protests, hmm the Boston Tea Party. The fight for Independence, these people don’t hate protests, they hate these protesters. They have a problem with the protesters skin color, their hatred for people of another race is tearing them apart. These people are self- hating, ignorant and pathetic. I pity them, for they have to live with themselves. They have to live with the anger and hate that is making their life miserable.

  14. Ndog Says:

No one said anyone had to leave just that if someone hates it so much then there are other options. To be honest I’m not even sure anyone, including them, knows what they are protesting. Maybe that this country allowed them to work hard and become millionaires but I’m sure that is an option in every country right? I mean this is worst most unfair oppressive country on the planet, right?

  15. Pawel Says:

What happen to the playbook that was suppose to be more wide open to Winston and more creativity? I thought we did good with short passes to Hump and some to Sims in open space. Everything seemed vertical against Vikes.

  16. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

The NFL doesn’t need the anthem, it isn’t a part of the game. It’s political in itself, so just get rid of it. Stop the b!t@hing, problem solved for all.

  17. Jim Says:

I’d still take ME over OJB on my team.

  18. Grt2 Says:

After the catch is key. OBJ is scary as heck.

  19. Ndog Says:

I just have a feeling this season is already over. I hope not, but man everything is pointing to disaster.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Evans is self aware when it comes to play – his breakdown of the difference between him and Beckham are dead-on. However Beckham gets to play against Ryan Smith and Chris Conte in this game. I think it’s easy to know who will have the bigger game. I mean Evans could have 10 catches for 170 yards and a TD and if Ryan Smith plays because Grimes is out again, Beckham will easily surpass those numbers. Grimes practiced today, let’s hope him and TJ Ward play Sunday.

  21. Eric Says:

I would like to thank Colin Kapernick the Patriot, not the football player for exposing all the racist people in this country. What people fail to realize is that he did this during the national anthem to bring this issue front and center. Sure he could do this in other ways but others have done so and it hasn’t done anything. His actions have done so more than he could have ever imagined. It’s clear that he isn’t doing it to disrespect the military, flag, or our country and everyone with half a brain knows it. What Fox news doesn’t want you to know is that he started to kneel to honor the military’s fallen. He got the idea from another NFL player who is a Green Beret, Nate Boyer. Boyer told him that that is how they honor a fallen soldier so that is why he kneels instead of sitting, to show it’s not about the military at all. The reason the players did it this past Sunday was to take a shot at Donald Dumba$$ the draft dodger, Donald the insult er of captured military vet John McCain. The man chose to call peaceful protesting players SOB’S yet says nothing derogatory about the kkk and white supremacist despite them actually committing violence similar to the radical Islamist when they plowed into a crowd of protesters. We have millions of Americans who were devastated by the hurricanes and need aid, possible war with North Korea and investigations about his dealings with Russia and he instead talks about peaceful protesting black players. Have Americans suddenly become stupid or are they just plain old fashioned racist? C’mon people wake up before we end up like Nazi Germany. Like it or not they have a right to free speech and no American despite their color should have that right taken from them. The flag is for every American not just the military. If you guys complaining think not than you know nothing about what it is to be a real American!! I support the constitution not just the right to bear arms, I support America and every American’s rights that our great soldiers fought and died for as do the players who choose to make their voice heard.

  22. Eric Says:

I support our players and I will go to more games this year than ever before. And just so you racist know myself and my father both served in our military so I do have a right to speak unlike many of you posting with no military service to speak of.
    #impeach the orangeman

  23. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

The same people panicking right now are the same ones who thought our season was over last year after we started 1-3, they probably hopped right back on the band wagon when we rallied back to 3-3.

Oh and the season was over with for sure after we lost 2 in a row including a gruesome beating at home vs the Pidgins.

My point is you won’t truly have a clue until the games are played. So why not just support the team you claim to be a fan of? Or have faith that our players & coaches are capable of bouncing back and overcoming what appear to be ugly circumstances?

My Quarterback, Jameis Winston certainly isn’t perfect by any means. But he possesses an indomitable power of will. As well as being wise beyond his years, and apparently he has powerful sense of foresight.

Jameis was showing signs of clairvoyance when he said so poignantly just a few weeks ago “F your circumstances.” Those words have never been more relevant. I know that #3 is going to bounce back quickly like he always has and he will probably be better than ever.

  24. Clodhopper Says:

I think its funny the sports media is more offended by OBJ “peeing” than they are about spoiled brats that too selfish to know how lucky they are to be in this country shttng on our vets and our founders. The priorities in this country come straight from bizaro world

  25. Clodhopper Says:

“says nothing derogatory about the kkk and white supremacist”

    Biggest lie in this country!!

  26. Clodhopper Says:

Every other professional in this country cant take politics to work. But these guys have a right that no one else does? That doesnt sound like fighting for “equality” to me. That sounds like fighting for special treatment.

  27. Miguel Grande Says:

Trump knows the truth about John McCain

McCain is no hero, google Wetstart McCain, or Songbird McCain.

After murdering 134 of his shipmates in a practical joke, the crew on his next ship, USS Oriskany, put a broken fuel gauge on his jet. When he jettisoned his auxillary external fuel tank over N Viet Nam, he found out his main tank was empty. That’s why his jet didn’t explode into flames when he crashed

He then turned traitor and filmed dozens of anti-American propaganda films and helped locate deadly SAM missile sites along secret USAF flight paths into NVN.

While other flyers suffered daily in the Hanoi Hilton, he lived a life of luxury even fathering two Vietnamese children.

When the NV offered to “release” Songbird early he refused to come home thinking that he would surely hang for his crimes.

He lobbied for and received a full pardon for his treason and then entered politics

@ERIC….THATS ONE OF THE BEST POST IVE READ REGARDING THE PROTEST….loved the last line…#impeach the Orangeman….lol…that was hilarious….

all you people saying your going to boycott the nfl are full of it….stop with the BS….some have said they have already cancelled their cable etc but games are still shown on basic tv….you don’t need cable to watch the nfl on sundays….the nfl will still cash in….

the great thing is, is that money is a nonissue….tv revenue will still be coming in…season ticket holders burn their tickets, who cares…the nfl already has your money….resaling your tickets?…great…they will be bought by a protest supporter…I doubt you sell them to a friend of your who share the same views and wont attend games either…don’t renew your tickets, even better, protest supporters will buy them….stadiums will still be full….buy gear and burn it…so what..nfl has your money….its a lose lose for the anti-protest crowd….

KEEP SITTING MIKE….KEEP FIGHT KAEP…GO BUCS!!!

  29. unbelievable Says:

The cluelessness of people when it comes to anthem situation never ceases to amaze me.

He was told by a green beret to kneel, as that is how you honor fallen soldiers. Yet the dumba$$es run around screaming it’s disrespect. Open your ears and eyes ya fools.

And please stop equating their job to your job. They are not the same. At all. They are entertainers, you are not.

  30. ClodHopper Says:

You kneal and bobbers are amazing. You’ll justify murder to push your white hating racist agenda!! While you’re down there…

  31. ClodHopper Says:

    *You’d not you’ll

    Still, while you’re down there…

  32. Buc1987 Says:

813bucboi …you’re wrong and if it keeps up you’ll see just how wrong you are. The game is NOT bigger than the country. You’ll see. You can have your opinion all you want as to how much money the league will stay make. The anti-protesters are like 1/2 the country. Good luck with your theory though.

The kind of racism that has no clue the national anthem has 3 verses…wait until they actually read the third one! Lmao it’s a wonder anyone stands

Wrong, the poem “Defence of Fort M’Henry” has three verses. The Star Spangled Banner – our National Anthem does not intentionally.

  34. Makie Lovie Says:

There are over 120 millionaires on each field each Sunday. The best they can do is kneel? If they feel that strongly about this subject do something. They have the means to do more than most and all they can do is kneel? That is weak. JJ Watt felt strongly about Hurricane relief for his city, what did he do? Raised 22million +. Imagine if he just took a knee?

Are they kneeling only for blacks that are victims of police brutality or for whites that are victims of police brutality? I guess we see who the real racists are.

  35. Buc1987 Says:

    Will protesting stop the “injustice”?

    No.

  36. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

LOL Clod, yeah I am a white male too. We have it so bad in this country and all the racism we have to deal with. Trump got elected by angry white guys who feel they are now oppressed. It is amazing to see how far we have regressed over the past year. We have gone from a well spoken and diplomatic black president to an incompetent and belligerent white billionaire who stokes the anger of white guys who want to go back to the “good old days!” This guy makes fun of the handicapped, feels he can do whatever he wants with a woman’s body parts because he is rich and famous, believes that KKK rallies are filled with a lot of great people and states that traitors of the US who fought for the right for humans to own other humans should be honored and revered with statues in our towns and cities across the country!

  37. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Hey Makie, do a little research. They do plenty. Michael Bennett was interviewed last night. Every Tuesday he and a teammate do things in the Seattle area too try and improve the situation. He has a very clearly stated goal and communicates exactly what he would like to accomplish by drawing attention to the issue by kneeling. He and everyone of the protestors will tell you what the goal is and it is not disrespecting veterans. Basically they are saying that as great as this country is, it can do better.

  38. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

LOL Miguel – conspiracy theory much?

  39. Makie Lovie Says:

TDTB, I saw the interview on CNN with Michael Bennett. He aired his grievances, but he is a man who has the power and money to make “real change”. He is asking for things that other people can do. I dont think kneeling will accomplish those. Seattle isn’t exactly a hotbed for social injustices, perhaps the most socially cohesive area I have ever lived. I hope he and others can find a solution that they can contribute to other than just kneeling. The NFL will suffer. It already has. We are all aware there are injustices. We dont need a kneeler to let us know. They actually happen to both black and white. You have to ask why only the police on black crimes/injustices were exploited and publicized, and not the police on white. We know more whites get killed by police than black. I am sure many of them were mistreated. I believe there is a more sinister force out there wanting us to be divided. If we were united, the race baitors would be out of work.

Also, to your earlier post, Not all of Trump voters are angry white guys. That is a bit of a racist comment if you think about it. Some voters just refused to allow Clinton to be the next president. Many held there nose when they voted. We really had two terrible choices.

  40. unbelievable Says:

    @TouchdownTampaBay-

Didn’t you know white people are the oppressed ones who have it so hard in this country? My life has been so tough growing up as a white male.

You are 100% correct about this country regressing. Intelligence is now looked down upon. In an age where we have access to more information and facts than ever before, our citizens intentionally dumb themselves down. They stay willfully ignorant as a point of cultural pride, because that’s easier than listening to viewpoints that differed from theirs.

  41. ClodHopper Says:

Lol. Who said white people have it so bad? I said there’s anti white hate sweeping this country. GMC has haters. Does he have it so bad? Jerry Jones? How about Taylor Swift?

Go to huffpo and see what think about white players standing.

No wonder you don’t understand our POV. You’ve never actually listened to it!!! You just invent what your distracters say.

Kneal and bobbers, while you’re down there…

  42. 813bucboi Says:

@87….that leaves the other half of the country in support of the protest….and the amount of attention its gaining is amazing….now you have people aware of the injustice happening in America over seas….they support players standing up for a great cause….did you not see the reaction fans had in London….they loved it….the movement is world wide…the support is world wide…

it will continue and more will join the fight….its just getting started…you ask will kneeling stop injustice?…it sure will….it will put pressure on law enforcement to rethink their training methods because obviously it aint working and you will see officers being held accountable for their actions….no longer will an officer being able to say,” I feared for my life” after pumping 4 or 5 shots into an unarmed black man….GO BUCS!!!

  43. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Lol @ the “kneel and bobbers!” Typical Neanderthal type of response.

  44. Makie Lovie Says:

So are the protests to stop all police “injustice” on both whites and blacks or only blacks?

  45. Mo_Downs Says:

OK Joe, time for a safe space article that allows all political views to be aired on the subject of police brutality of our black citizens.

That way all political comments will have a space for Buc fans to air their opinions on the subject and we can stick to the subject of articles about the Bucs and football.

BTW, President Regan cut public school funding for both blacks and whites in the now re-segregated schools, both North and South. Racists set up separate “White Only”schools post Civil Rights Era and Civics is not a mandatory course beyond studying for a Constitution test.

Clearly, there has been a sub-group of our citizenry that hasn’t evolved beyond the Civil War and they are sorely in need of information that will help them move into the 21st century.

This debate over the protests of police brutality and extra judicial summary executions of our black citizens by police would be a memory if our schools were mandated to teach the REAL history of the USA, warts and all.

And, you know the racists are in trouble when their emotions and logic are so easily manipulated by Russian KGB agents bent on undermining democracy by playing to the still present racist beliefs among some of the US electorate.

As a child of the 60’s I truly thought that we would be much further ahead of Germany in our intolerance of racism.

    Mirror, Mirror on the wall…….

    Go Bucs…!!!

  46. Makie Lovie Says:

    Mo, Thanks for the example!

  47. 813bucboi Says:

So are the protests to stop all police “injustice” on both whites and blacks or only blacks?

what a stupid question to ask…..DUH….its police injustice…..unfortunately, only blacks experience injustice to “this” degree!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  48. Makie Lovie Says:

“only blacks experience injustice to “this” degree!!!”

    Hilarious, you’re the best!

  49. ClodHopper Says:

    ^^^^

No one has told them. It’s hard to get a seal to bark when you slap it too hard with reality!!

  50. Roy T. Buford Says:

No fan of Trump’s comments or the guy himself. But I’m less a fan of Mike Evans, though I hold six season tickets (for this year) in the “All New West Club” and it was nice for the one win. Haven’t missed a game in 13 years I’ve been back in Tampa after retiring from the military. Until this weekend. My tix are for sale baby. What’s funny is the ignorant posters here assume just because you are against Mike Evan’s kneeling that you are somehow for Trump, racist. LOL! Just like Akeep Spence…you know, ex-Buc who got arrested going 100 mph with illegal drugs in the car…saying he’s mistreated by cops and kneeling over it…and now saying his dad, who clearly did a lousy job raising him…lost a contracting gig becuase little Akeem was kneeling. Sorry bunch of oppressed little men.
