Safe

For the roster-watching freaks who have nothing better to do on a Friday afternoon, this one’s for you.

Winning head coach Dirk Koetter showed his hand today on a guy who appeared to be on Tampa Bay’s roster bubble with final cuts looming tomorrow.

Second-year guard/tackle Caleb Benenoch, the Bucs’ 2016 fifth-round pick, is doing great things and will be relied upon as a backup this season.

“I think Caleb has improved a ton. He has gotten bigger and stronger, especially in the run game. His run blocking has come a long, long way,” Koetter said “Now, we’ve got to get Caleb to cut his penalties down. He’s wiping us out with his penalties. I wish he had more time to play – he’s going to be in a backup role here to start the season. But, we needed Caleb to come in and play for us last year and when he did, he did alright.”

Good for Benenoch, who was flagged for tripping and a hold last night against the Redskins’ future couch-delivery men, tire-truck loaders and grad students.

Last year, Benenoch saw significant action in two games. In the first, he was poor. In the second, he was strong.

Great to hear the young man is progressing!

Joe suspects this will be a long weekend for second-year tackle Leonard Wester.

Gotta love when we’re able to actually develop late round picks.

  2. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Keep perfecting his technique & conditioning. And he’ll be alright.

  3. R.O. Says:

I don’t think there was any doubt CB77 was making the Roster. Who was going to beat him out. Our tackles are a weak spot.

  4. Bucj Says:

You know Joe, I personally think Leonard Wester will make the roster. DD69 is gonna be gone soon and LW66 is a solid RT

  5. Lamarcus Says:

Couldn’t afford to lose any blockers

Bucs should sign Jah Reid, released by kc yesterday. Better option in my mind than some of our backups. JL might wana stick with his home grown boys tho n it is almost show time. Gota love that the teams healthy rollin into miami. Go Bucs

Benenoch and Wester are the best backups we have at Tackle – aside from Pamphile. Both will make the final 53 and stick through the upcoming bottom of the roster adjustments this coming week. If neither makes major strides this year – we are forced (IMO) to use some higher level resources next year to shore up our OT “situation”.

The last sentence applies to D. Smith as well….

We are fine in the middle with Marpet, Pamphile and Sweezy – and Evan Smith, Hawley backing up. Good in fact.

    Not so much at Tackle…

  8. D-Rome Says:

Yeah when Jenna Laine said he wouldn’t make the cut I thought she was way off base.

  9. LUVMYBUCS Says:

I know he’s a vet – but I would sign RB -Tim Hightower.
    Dude’s a solid, in-between the lines thumper.

Benenoch is a very interesting athlete. A soccer player for most of his life he didn’t turn to football until late in high school. Imagine a giant like him running up and down a soccer field.

He matched Ali Marpet’s 4.98 40 which was the fastest that year for OL at the combine.

Benenoch has a ton of upside because of his physical gifts and he still a baby in American football…he’s a bit like Dot who also came to football after excelling at a different sport.

  11. Tom Says:

    Benenoch is average at best.

Why would you want to sign Reid when Irving Cammron beat him out in KC?
Look at the film of Cammron while he was a Brown.

Sorry started long weekend too soon. Cam Erving

We only have a Week to fill this and get a draft by Thursday.

  16. Capt.Tim Says:

They have already said they are keeping 5 TEs and 4 OTs.
Webster will back up Smith, Benenoch will back up Dotson.
    Good line. Good depth.

Glade they are keeping Auclair also.

  17. SB Says:

Also this is the JoeBucsFan.Com Pickem!!! We already have over 40 players. We need More!

Glad to hear this. I’ve been hoping he would continue to develop ever since he was drafted. Very large and strong with good looking stamina. Very excited to see if he can continue to develop into a dominating OT.
