“We Need Him To Sleep More”

August 4th, 2017

Too busy?

Could burnout affect America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston?

It’s an interesting question, especially in light of winning head coach Dirk Koetter’s comments after practice today.

Joe asked Koetter about this last year, whether there was a chance Jameis was working too hard on his craft. Koetter gave the question little legitimacy, shrugging it off and saying Jameis working his butt off at 22 years old is just fine.

And Jameis continues to grind away, first man in the building, in the 5 a.m. hour, and last to leave. (Jameis has said Keith Tandy rivals his hours, but hasn’t mentioned another Buccaneer in that light.)

Plus, Jameis has media commitments and endorsements, and a busy offseason of charity appearances across the country. And he tries not to disappoint fans after practice.

Today, Koetter was asked about areas in which Jameis is improving and/or needs improvement. And Koetter closed his answer was what sounded like a call for his QB to sensibly dial it back a little bit.

“Again, that guy, I mean Jameis, that guy is workin’ ’round the clock on make his game better,” Koetter said. “We need him to sleep more, actually, is what we need him to do. He’s making progress. He sure is.”

Sure, Koetter was being playful with his commentary, but Joe believes there’s a hint of truth in there.

Jameis is human, too. And there is such a thing as overdoing it. The Bucs, we hope, will need Jameis sharp in January.

In order for America to be great it must be well rested.

  2. GoBucYourself Says:

Well Howard, if you really want America to be great again you might have to nuke the White House.

  3. Joseph Mamma Says:

I heard Matt Ryan say a few years ago that he stopped trying “the first one in the building nonsense”, and focused on getting a good amount of sleep. Sure makes a lot of sense to me.

  7. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

Hopefully the guys in charge of conditioning and nutrition have sufficiently made it clear to America’s QB that, especially after hard workouts, a good 7-9 hours of sleep is a must for a human body to thrive.

For all we know, Jameis may head home from OBP and go straight to bed.

He’s young, but if I could tell my younger self something to change immediately, it would be to get in the habit of getting better sleep.

Sure looks like he is about to yawn in the pic.

Yes, ‘hey snowflake’ is a classic. It says everything anyone needs to know about the semi-literate, poorly educated, gullible fools who use it.

And we’ll talk about any damn thing we want considering Tmaxcon gets to bash G-MAC no matter the subject. If I have to listen to his tangential drivel, than you can put up with our “special” contributions to this community.

If you don’t understand everything here, just ask Brate or Fitzpatrick; they’ll explain.

Go Bucs and GoBucYourself!!! ; )

Can’t we all just get along?

  19. SOEbuc Says:

I have a feeling since Dirk said that than they are keeping everything under control with his sleeping and eating. Jameis probably knows how to do it already and the nutritionists just remind him.

Go Buc Yourself comment has been forwarded to the United States Secret Service. Let’s see how Long this goes on. Joe you might get want to nip this before you get a phone call.

    Joe’s,
So a football thread gets hijacked by the political nut cases.
    Shocking.
Bring back Morning Cup of Joe.
Your experiment has to be over.

  22. Howard Cosell Says:

“Go Buc Yourself” sounds a little hostile. It’s almost like he’s telling everyone to **** themselves. Then he took my usage of “America” (as in Americas QB Jameis Winston), to be a reference to a political slogan by which he has been critically butt-hurt.
I would say just breathe into a paper bag and it probably wouldn’t hurt to try out a new username (with Joes approval, of course)

  23. Dave Pear Says:

    Oh yeah.
And release 87 from posting purgatory.
    He’s served his time.

  24. DB55 Says:

“I’ll sleep when I die” – any hustla on the planet

“I’ll sleep when I win ships” – Jameis Winston

    If you skrong we skrong

    #family

  25. GoBucYourself Says:

Howard, you’re a silly boy. I understood your America reference perfectly but warped it to my own purposes. Not surprised, though, that you didn’t get it. As for my username, no hostility is intended – I just find it amusing. I gotta say though that I like it better than going with the name of a dead sports commentator.

  26. Matthew Says:

Might be a great idea for him to hire an assistant to deal with his phone calls , bills etc. A cleaning lady to stuff around the house . Asian to do the dry cleaning . Lol. R&R never hurt anyone . Having more time to do the important things and to keep his body from aching is always a good thing . Offseason should be him focusing on how he can help himself help the team . Not how he can help the fans help the team . We got his back we know what his capability is . He’s young and leveling up fast . Would be faster though if he took more time and focused in on his game more . Still room for improvement . That just my opinion. Idk how many practices they got , but in training camp should be two a days . Day and night practice if the weather allows it . 5am – 8am and 5pm-8pm heavy practice lite practice . That’s just me or split it up . Film Friday’s , Weight lift Wednesday’s staying late and getting there early isn’t really encouraging . I mean early yes sure late no ! 8-4pm should be rest time . Specially when we all know Winston isn’t going anywhere . Regular season won’t have the time frame for 2 a days really not to mention you don’t wanna be going that hard all week . You wanna prepare mentally for the opponent all week and it requires a lot of film followed by communication in practice . I’m not the coach but I imagine going hard all week in practice just causes more problems on Sunday’s more than what it’s worth . Now the time to go hard and stay sharp . It’s all mental for Winston anyways. He’s already naturally physical and will win the pocket vs most off his skill set , but his mental toughness and mental focus on the field and just mental awareness of the defense is where he’s gonna make his money and help us most . Teamwork first , celeb later
