“That’s Why We’re Doing It Because We Can’t Fu**’n Do Anything Right”

More creative editing by Hard Knocks, or more of a hardass than is known?

There was some debate this weekend about why Dirk Koetter had his team running “gassers” at training camp practice, aka “suicides” or a series of sprints.

Koetter wouldn’t call it a punishment. He laughed off that suggestion by former Tampa Tribune reporter Roy Cummings and sarcastically quipped that it was a big story, football players running gassers at practice. Koetter said it was just a football team stepping up its work to be ready for opening day.

Well, on Hard Knocks tonight, Koetter is seen ordering the team to run sprints. Why? “Because we can’t fu**’n do anything right,” Koetter is heard barking.

But a closer look at the screen shots show completely empty stands at One Buc Palace when the team is running the gassers. Also, media areas appear vacant. So when were those sprints filmed?

Were they even a punishment? Or was this creative editing by Hard Knocks?

It certainly didn’t appear to be this past weekend, when the full-team sprints were seen by media and others in attendance. Perhaps the Bucs run a lot more gassers than anyone knows about.

Old school you gotta appreciate that, personally it looks like the offense too complicated for such a young team. but wtf do I know?

  2. Rod Munch Says:

Heck we had to do this in band – we had to run gassers if we were messing up. Is this supposed to be controversial? Are people really so soft this is even noteworthy? Wow.

  3. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Absolutely loved Dirks impassioned words for Jameis after that bonehead decision.

Dare ain’t no school like da ole school…accept no substitutes cause anything else leads to being soft like charmin…Word.

  5. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

So the gassers Hard Knocks showed could have been from the start of camp for all we know?

    Talk about creative editing!

I would think that being able to run, and run, and run some more would be very helpful to a football player. It’s not punishment it’s getting football players
to be able to go all out for 60 minutes in a football game in the hot Florida sun.

Often coaches use any excuse to get players attention. This has been going on since the invention of the whistle. And I know of no football team that doesn’t run gassers, all the better if the coaches can somehow offer a cause-and-effect to squeeze a little more performance from their charges.

The difference between balling out and sucking wind late in the 4th Quarter is conditioning. Gassers help push your endurance threshold higher and I would be disappointed if coach K wasn’t pushing our team to be in top condition while preparing our rocket to launch into the 2017 season.

That’s why Roy got the verbal dressdown when he harped on why was the team running sprints? Koetter was basically saying to Cummings – “Why are you trying to dig up a negative? I don’t need a “reason” to condition my guys. The “big scoop” would be if I WASN’T pushing these players with conditioning drills from time to time.”
