O.J. Howard gets a chemistry lesson

Meet Coach Jameis.

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, was seen on Hard Knocks last night leading and teaching his new, giant toy: tight end O.J. Howard.

After a practice play, Jameis was gently pleading with the rookie first-round pick to run all out and keep running and good things would happen.

“When you run, ain’t nobody going to stop you,” Jameis told Howard lovingly.

Howard, seemingly on cue from the Hard Knocks editors, is seen running harder, catching a pass and getting love from Jameis.

That’s all nice, but Joe saw the exchanges as a chemistry lesson rather than a football lesson. Jameis needs to trust that Howard will use his amazing speed for a man of his massive size. That’s what makes him special. If Jameis can’t get consistency in route running from Howard, then that’s surely going to lead to off-target throws or worse.

But if Howard get get on point, not only will he blow away linebackers and safeties with his speed, he’ll get more targets and help open up the offense.

Joe’s not concerned about Howard, just please that Jameis is so dialed in to make everyone around him better.

I think this will probably be the toughest habit for OJ to break. He was so underused as a pass receiver at Bama he probably got used to giving up on routes because he realized the QB could not get him the ball and that Saban really wanted a 3 yards and cloud of dust offense.

#3 will straighten him out. OJ has a great attitude so it’s just a matter of reps.

OJ said people call him “Juice” so I guess it should be Juice from now on, not OJ. Just “Juice” though. “The Juice” is already taken. I’ve noticed all along that when Juice runs he’s so smooth it doesn’t look like he’s going all out. Maybe he isn’t.
