“He Has A Back Issue”

August 27th, 2017

Wounded

Joe is always leery of foot problems and back trouble in football players.

There’s just a rough history of those lingering endlessly under the rigors of professional football played at top speed by very large men.

Last night against the Browns, Bucs icon and insider Ronde Barber, said on the game telecast that Vernon Hargreaves is battling a back problem. It was the first Joe had heard of that.

Midway through the second quarter, Hargreaves had 1-on-1 coverage on wide receiver Ricardo Louis, a Browns fourth-round pick last year. Louis got behind Hargreaves about 15 yards down the seam and Hargreaves was called for pass interference.

He left the field and took a knee and was sort of doubled over.

“Vernon Hargreaves just walked off the field. I’m not sure if he hurt himself. He has a back issue,” Barber said.

Joe sure hopes it’s nothing that will linger through the season. Hargreaves did return in the game. But backs are two funny. Even if he’s just fine to play, is he healthy enough to contort like he did for the amazing interception two weeks ago at Cincinnati?

And then there’s the other question. If he has a “back issue,” then why is he playing on a wet field in a meaningless game?

Barber was referring he has back issue like, back in the field, or back there.

    Ok kidding.

  2. Philip Says:

Seems like the majority of our top players have recently sustained mild to moderate injuries

IIRC, there was also a play early in the game where Jameis got hit from the blindside and got up very gingerly, and I was worried that he may have hurt his back on that play. Did anyone else see that play?

We need him and grimes healthy… Ryan smith got beat way too often last night he needs more time to develop

  5. tickrdr Says:

It was on the third and 4 play on the opening drive that ended with the holding call @ 10:52 in the first quarter.

They aren’t getting hit/tackled in practice so they are just getting used to being hit/tackled again.

  7. Danati74 Says:

DE, Tackle and CB early in next years draft.

  8. StickCarrier23 Says:

Gotta believe they will bring in a new corner after the first set of roster cuts

  9. Pickgrin Says:

    Exactly Danati.

  10. SteelStudBuc Says:

I also think roster cuts will deliver up some good depth players.

    My back hurts to

  12. Defense Rules Says:

Licht will add at least 1 quality CB before the season begins. Our depth at CB is unacceptable at this point. Also wouldn’t be surprised to see him add a tackle & a DE once teams cut down to 53.

Hey Joe! Your punching bag MG8 is looking like a starter the “Glennon mob” (stupid name you gave his fans) know him to be. We are looking forward to your positive post on him. Have fun writing it!!

  14. Dooshlarue Says:

Anyone else just watch Glennon look sharp on a 96 yard opening drive…..and score a freakin TD?

  15. teacherman777 Says:

    Told you.

McCourty had a sick strip this week.

We should have a former #1 CB to be our #3 CB.

did you also see that great pass he threw leading his receiver right into the defenders. the receiver was destroyed and his leg shattered. But captain checkdown got his precious meaningless completion. he must have learned the meaningless stat technique from GMC. it’s a good way to get paid but not to win games. One good drive does not make up for the horrid preseason and last three years glennon has put on tape.

  17. Piratic Says:

    “two” funny?

  18. The Anomaly Says:

I do not like Glennon but the WR getting hurt had zero to do with Glennon’s pass. It was an in route. It was a decent pass. The wr caught it and took a few steps before getting crushed by two defenders high and low. It looked really bad. I hope he has a full recovery.

  19. Dooshlarue Says:

Oh I’m not a Glennon fan but I also don’t hate him.
    I’m just sayin’…….

  20. Philip Says:

There seriously is not anyone that would prefer Glennon over Jameis right?

  21. martinii Says:

Didn’t they put Hargreaves back in a few plays later? If he had a serious back problem that makes no sense.

  22. feelthepewterpower Says:

He played well despite the back issue. It didnt affect is body diving for the int.
