Talks the feel of 2017 camp.

There is something different about this training camp. It’s is sort of a weird blend of intense grinding, but having fun. It’s almost like the team has embraced the personality of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis, with how they go about things.

Just about every Bucs player you talk to raves about how Jameis is a workaholic. A football junkie. Yet Jameis also has a fun-loving side to him. Yes, he loves football.

And talking to players, they almost to a man seem giddy, which is hard to believe for the first practice of training camp, usually a dreaded date on the calendar.

Yet the players after practice were virtually all smiles, as if they were at a hot, sweaty family reunion, but didn’t lose sight of expectations to meet. It’s important to have fun and enjoy the game but it is more important that they improve each practice.

The players feel the hype and the hype is real (on a blazing hot workday morning, the bleachers at One Buc Palace were full). They are embracing it but at the same time confess they must work harder because much is expected of them. In other words, it’s like the Bucs are blending important individual responsibility with enjoying the game. Fun with intense work.

“It seems like everybody is more focused,” defensive end Noah Spence said. “This is definitely a blessing to be on this type of a team. I feel like everyone is coming out and really trying to get their job done. People are trying to figure out ways to make this team better every day. That’s the vibe I feel out here.”

“I agree,” said wide receiver Adam Humphries when Joe mentioned Spence’s words.

“I think it has to do with caring for one another. We feel like the core group of guys have been here for each other. It’s our second and third years for most guys. We want to hold each other accountable and not let each other down. That has a lot to do with coming out there and giving it your best every day.

Or as Jameis famously says, “Family.”

I envy being apart of a band of brothers like this one.

    Sky’s the limit. Go Bucs!!!

  3. MadMax Says:

Thats what we were missing for a long time….that type of cohesion. Lichts building a determined group of players and its showing. And Spence, dang man, shoulders and guns looking good! Cant wait to see him tear through some O line!

  4. JAB83 Says:

    Your are NOLE!!

Be a Fan of Inspiration or morelike #3….. Same difference really 😉

This is why the Bucs drafted Winston. I still hear from time to time how Mariotta is better because of xyz reason. There are still some that wish he was the pick. I just don’t get it. They both are very good QB’s but Winston was exactly what the bucs needed at exactly the right time.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

It’s all coming together. The coaching, the talent, the leadership, the desire … it’s all coming together now. Get ready NFL, the Bucs are coming!

  7. Bird Says:

Man. Noah Spence’s arms almost look fake they are so “jacked”. And I believe that is supposed to be his bum shoulder in the pic. Reminds me of Michael Pittman arms (pittmans were bigger of course)

  8. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

I think alot of this mindset can be attributed to the type of players Licht is drafting/signing. They ALL love football, not just after a paycheck.

  9. Casual Observer Says:

    Good point, SIFA.

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Great the hear the fans are showing up. This might be a good year to go for the stadium noise record. I suspect the games will sell out…with the majority being Bucs fans for a change.

Heck, I think I’ll make a trip to Tampa one week as well. Just gotta decide when the best week for me is…and who to take.

Can’t wait to see some of this first hand on Aug 8th!

OK Hard core fans help me out here. I want to attend some games when I return.

I HATE the drive up Dale Mabry and fighting the crowd. I used to be able to go on the Vinoy Hotel Bus and eat and drink pre game at that big tent across the street.
It was AWESOME. Drink beer on the bus…no driving…food and beverages and parking waiting on you…and since you’re in a commercial bus the police give you precedence.

Anybody know of a Pub or other organization that runs such a deal? The Vinoy no longer does it and they only did it for one game a year which included their tickets…which grew worse and worse which is why the Vinoy finally quit.

I don’t mind paying the scalper’s price and then paying someone else to fight the traffic while I ride in comfort.

Yeah as an old dude I’ve grown very lazy and after a couple decades as a sportscaster where you get special parking privileges food and a great seat in the Press Box or sidelines I’m totally spoiled!!!!

I agree with JAB. NOSBOS, you’re gonna have an MVP type season! GO BUCS!!!

Scotty-one of the better posts ive seen in years. As cowboy after cowboy gets suspended and others retire early, it’s a relief seeing that we draft FOOTBALL MEN as licht says. Guys that live and breathe the game and will fight to stay on the field and win a title. Everyone licht has drafted(excluding year one thanks to lovie) has loved the sport. Period

  15. NFLNut Says:

Jameis saved the Bucs franchise, period …

  16. Ptwalk Says:

I think I has more to do with Winston, if the guys you draft or sign via FA goes to an organization that doesnt have a Winston type leader then 5hing remain the same. But it does start with players that love the game.

  17. godzilla13 Says:

This team knows they are good, real good. Between the draft and the FA signings, together with the second year players like Noah Spence and Vernon Hargreaves who will shine in year two, this team is going to get it done.
