Da’Quan Bowers Blasts Jason Licht

July 29th, 2017

Tees off on Bucs GM.

Apparently, former Bucs defensive end Da’Quan Bowers is no longer the easy-going guy he once was.

A talented Gospel guitarist and the former ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Bowers was drafted by the Bucs in 2011 and he never caught on in the NFL. He is now a member of the vaunted Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL.

When Bowers was with the Bucs, there were few players Joe respected more. With his NFL career circling the drain and after having a run-in with the law, Bowers never ever shied away from reporters. He always talked, never hid and was unfailingly polite. Always.

Apparently, that has changed. Roughly two years since being let go by the Bucs, Bowers took to Twitter this morning and went off on Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht for reasons unknown.

Now to Joe, this reads likes major sour grapes. How exactly is Licht the demon here?

Bowers had ump-teen chances to win a starting job with the Bucs and never could. Hell, the Bucs gifted Bowers a starting job when they let Michael Bennett walk away for no good reason! And how did Bowers respond? By showing up to training camp out of shape.

Shoot, after the Bucs cut him following the 2014 season, Licht brought Bowers back due to injuries to the defensive line, and still he couldn’t make the Bucs; couldn’t even beat out sackless George Johnson for a gig.

Perhaps Bowers doesn’t like Licht because the Bucs GM gave Bowers a prove-it ultimatum?

And somehow that is Licht’s problem?

Joe can say this about Licht: At least he never got caught trying to sneak a rod onto a plane.

Never understood why guys get so pissed about being released. It’s almost always about money vs performance…unless you’re Kaep

  2. The Buc Realist Says:

Of course he is mad!!!!! After mark dominik over drafted him and cleared the roster so his draft picks could easily get playing time and forcing coaches to give Bowers the starting title before training camp in 2013!!!!!\

You could see how to him, that he felt like NFL GM Jason Licht did not treat him well!!!!!!!!

This is just one of the hundreds of reasons why mark dominik answers phones on a part time radio show and not in a NFL front office even though he begs for any position all the time!!!!!!!!!!!

    Worst GM in Buc History!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

In my mind, it was Bowers in a way that cost us Michael Bennett.
Most of Tampa had high hopes for him coming out of Clemson, but he let everyone down.
Now, he plays for Edmonton, and lets all hope he don’t live there too.
Edmonton is one of the highest crime rate cities in Canada, with a Murder rate that is off the charts, for Canada.
    Most Canadians call it “Deadmonton”.

  4. Joe Says:

In my mind, it was Bowers in a way that cost us Michael Bennett.

    You are not wrong.

  5. The Real Malloy Says:

As stick carriers, we follow the Licht.

Bowers doesn’t have the floor to speak about our true “rock star” GM as he watches from afar as an Edmonton Eskimo. Screw this guy. He accomplished NOTHING while he was here. This no talent ass clown will get no sympathy from this bucs fanbase. Things have changed since Cheeseburger Bowers was here in Tampa.

    Good Riddance…

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Chris@ARCT

Its not “in a way” he did!!!!!! And it was dominik that orchestrated the medical staff to “fail” M Bennet so dominik could then crowbar in HIS draft picks!!!!!!!

and when you look at that deep DE draft and know that the Bucs walked away with adrain slowborn and bowers,,,,,,,,

    Worst GM in Buc history!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Mikadeemas Says:

    Who!?

  8. Joe Says:

And it was dominik that orchestrated the medical staff to “fail” M Bennet so dominik could then crowbar in HIS draft picks!!!!!!!

LOL Bennett really did have a bum shoulder then. That is not fiction. But that is also why you have an injury buyout clause if you concerned about a wing.

  9. tnew Says:

I will say it. I thought this was a very, very good risk/reward pick at the time and still do. Sometimes, they just don’t work out. The failing was when they put all of the confidence in him and let Bennett walk. I remember wanting to keep Bowers, Bennett and add Avril from Detroit in that off-season. Instead, Seattle adds Bennett and Avril and take off. All being said I was in Raymond James, for a game versus the Panthers. I’m not sure the exact time or game, but he took it over for a series, one series. You could see what he could do when motivated. He was very rarely motivated.

This latest salvo is odd. Poor timing on his part. To blast Licht now, just not really smart. Even if what he said was true (I don’t buy it), to say it now, when the Bucs are climbing to the top. Its like he never wants to play in the NFL again.

bruce allens up there for worst gm also, no eye for talent, and he has a mess in dc

Bowers is a fake ass John Randle – and he ought to shut his ass up.

  13. FutureBucsGM Says:

No it was Bowers and Clayborn that cost us Michael Bennett but it was a Dominik decision. And uhm.. it seems as though there’s more to this story, Wesley Sanders is upset with Licht for blocking him on Twitter.

  14. Jim Says:

Tune you guitar and leave football for those who actually love the game.

  15. FutureBucsGM Says:

Not sure why with was spun the way it was either with the good vs evil undertones. I would chase the story and not the cinema

    Bowers is a bum

  18. Lamarcus Says:

Bowers is ghost poop for that. Licht dId his job and got u spot. Bowers u just didn’t do yours so to post that ur boo boo

  19. Buc4Lyfe79 Says:

Nice to see Bowers being a typical gospel singing hypocrite, #GetALife You no good bum, oh that’s right, you already chose yours. Playing ur guitar on sundays instead of giving ur all for ur one chance to play a kids game for a kings ransom which would have actually enabled you to REALLY be able to give back to ur fellow church members…What a dumbass.

  20. Charles Stevens Says:

Sour grapes for sure.Mr Bowers had plenty opportunities to be productive and he wasn’t.Ever! I was always mystified as to why the bucs let Bennett go.He reminds me of that every time I see Seattle play.Always the best pass rusher on that squad.

  21. MadMax Says:

whatever! pissoff x-bucs hating Licht because you couldnt live up to the new standard. Now you hate us because you cant be a part of this, heh, whatever felicia…bye bye now.

  22. Dewey Selmon Says:

he must love Canada cause he might not play in the NFL after the 31 other GM’s read this.

  23. Rob in Land O Lakes Says:

You’e got to hand it to him. That’s the most passion I’ve ever seen out of Cheeseburger. Had he shown that much passion keeping a job given to him as he does bitching about our GM, he might have made something of himself.

  24. Joe Says:

Now you hate us because you cant be a part of this, heh, whatever felicia…bye bye now.

    BINGO!

You’e got to hand it to him. That’s the most passion I’ve ever seen out of Cheeseburger. Had he shown that much passion keeping a job given to him as he does bitching about our GM, he might have made something of himself.

    No doubt!

  25. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

Yea and you’ll see Jason Licht in the superbowl while you’re having fun playing with the Eskimos. What a joke

  26. meh Says:

    Bust says what?

  27. BuccaneEric75 Says:

In my mind, Bowers is the ONLY reason Bennett was not resigned. Draft status over talent is the way to destroy a team.

  28. stpetebucsfan Says:

Two players in my mind…I’m sure they’re are more…but two wear their Christianity right out front and do not hesitate to proseltylize and preach it.

GMC and Daquan! GMC has borne witness with his life as well as his words…as for DaQuan this is a major fail.

Can any of my Christian friends here imagine Jesus saying…”That Pontius Pilate is a real pice of sh!t I bet he gives me up to the crowd.”

Daquan could have at least kept a little class. I have people I think of as POS’s but I try to never share those feelings in public.

Besides the folks I might consider POS probably view me the same way! 🙂

  29. destinjohnny Says:

Bowers if you could get to the qb….. you would be making 15 million a year.
    simple as that……
but hey money aint everything right…..

  30. James Walker Says:

Bowers is the type of athlete I detest the most; gifted physically, but does not have the mental fortitude to apply themselves.

  31. BigHogHaynes Says:

I’ve read all of my fellow posters comments and can’t rail against any of them except the first one …Buc50, your comment is as stupid as it sounds…we all know Kap is a far better QB than at least a third of the QB’s that will be on a NFL roster this season, with a little quick math that’s at least 20 QBs that in my opinion can’t hold Kap’s jock strap, including the back up QB on this roster. The man has been BLACK/BALLED for taking a stance by taking a knee during that American Theme Song! Can you believe it, BLACK/BALLED: Buc50 sometimes it is about the color of your skin!!

  32. Atlbuc28 Says:

BigHog, I think maybe you read 50s post wrong…… I read it as he was sticking up for Kap… Just sayin’ …. I could be wrong

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I don’t really care what Da’Quan Bowers says. He obviously can’t make it in the NFL at all. Never could.

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Buc4Lyfe79 Says
    “a typical gospel singing hypocrite”

Why the hate on people who choose to believe in something? I happen to belong to that group (well, not the singing part, but the gospel part). I hope you are not saying I am a hypocrite too.

  35. Atlbuc28 Says:

But speaking of hate, I’m growing old of the GMC bashing… I posted this comment late on another post… But want to share again in case i’m wrong in my thoughts.. feel free to flame…
Let me say this a little more .. clearly. If you are a fan that just happened to jump on our Super Bowl year bandwagon… ( there are A LOT of you) and you think all that we ever needed was another Sapp and we would magically turn back into a super bowl or even a playoff team again. You are sooo misguided … We had offensive Super Bowl worthy coaching before Dungy with no talent… Then Wysches staff started the talent influx… then we got HOF worthy defensive coaching… and more talent… Then Gruden brought an Amazing run of passion for the team and fans that brought us the Super Bowl… Then we lost the talent, the suits that knew how to get the talent and the HOF coaching…. In comes GMC 93 with no talent, no coaching NO GM or talent evaluaters …. So now its left up to 93 to save the day??.. Why? …maybe because all of you bandwagon fans didn’t see or feel the journey. Most of you thought all we needed was another Sapp… You are VERY misguided… set back and enjoy the fact you get to watch… what all of us did starting in 93-94 .. Remember the struggle, the build up… The winning then the feeling of talkin’ smack because our team… became a Super Bowl team… damn… look past the drive to be a h8ter and now enjoy being a MF stick Carrier!…

  36. stpetebucsfan Says:

I hope you are not saying I am a hypocrite too.

Bonzai you’ve never given us any reason to think you’re a hypocrite. You’ve even been upset by Justin’s bad language…hard to imagine you ever referring to ANYBODY as a POS.

You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

    Matthew 7:16

As for how frequently or typically this happens is up for debate. But be clear…the hypocrisy offends me as well but I TOTALLY respect those who actually practice what they preach.

    @Joe

Do you think some of this Hatred is that some of the Fans are trying so hard to recreate the late 90’s. They got the Dungy tree coach, they see GMC as Sapp. LVD as Brooks, Conte as the white safty. They still wear the old jerseys. They think that the Tampa-2 is the only defense that works. and now that everything is in place its not the same is it. History has not been recreated!!!

I wrote when GMC got his new contract that the Bucs always have to over pay. Its a bad franchise that loses. They have to pay an extra 25-30% over market value to attract and keep free agents. Look people this is Lovie’s defense and he needs 2 more pro-bowlers on the DL and maybe 1 very good rotational guy. Lovie only wins with over-whelming talent!!!!

The only problem I have with GMC93 is that he has said over 100 times that he is the leader!!! If you have to say….then you know the rest!!!!!!

I do like the GMC93 “double-teamed” jokes!!!! They are very funny!!!!

  38. BuccaneEric75 Says:

BigHog, I agree with you that Kap is being black-balled, and I have no problem with it. If Tom Brady didn’t stand for the anthem I wish he’d be black-balled too. Fighting against prejudice and for equality is admirable and necessary, but I can’t support anyone of any color who won’t stand for the anthem. I would hope people would say the same if I did it, cause I’d be wrong.

  39. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I just hope Kap doesn’t be judged by this for his entire life and find better ways to express his opinion.

  40. Atlbuc28 Says:

@The Buc Realist!. You said it better than me. I totally get the reason we are here posting is our passion or addiction.. lol.. I watched Lynch get owned by Sanders in Tampa Stadium .. But I also watched Alstott run all over Cleveland on the way to the super bowl…. So yes I have the power of looking back… I just know that if it was only Sapp trying to get us that ring… wasnt going to happen… and I say that out of respect…

  41. Atlbuc28 Says:

LOL.. I enjoy the Realist Reposts!!!!!!!!!!!!

  42. Atlbuc28 Says:

Hope everyone embraces the fact we are Running the Ravens 2 …. as much as i hate to say it… or closet Love to say it….. Aggressive Dominate D is back… 🙂

  43. Fire the glazers Says:

Such a punk. He SUUUUUUUCKED. Worst 2nd round pick in Bucs history.

  44. stvcl Says:

@Fire the glazers …you’ve obviously forgotten our wonderful second round pick wr Dexter Jackson from Appalachia State.

  45. mike10 Says:

WTF.. what a ‘left field’ comment. Wonder what his beef is with Licht?! IMO he should be working pro bono for our scouting dept to make sure we don’t ever draft a bust like him again.

  46. godzilla13 Says:

Mr Bowers should keep his comments to himself.

  47. RayJameisStadium Says:

Licht is cleanning up the locker. I’m sure it was Lovie who wanted Bowers playing. I’m glad all the weak minded are being let go by new Bad A$$ players.

I like what GMC and David bring to the table. But i have faith in Licht to eventually find their replacement that have Ayer’s winning attitude.

    In Licht We Trust!!!

  48. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

LOLOL, apparently Realist is friends with everyone on the Bucs medical staff. Ridiculous statement from someone I am quite certain doesn’t hang out and BBQ with doctors on the weekends,

  49. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

All these flavors and he chooses to be salty

  50. Bucamania Says:

Apparently Daquan prefers Dominick lol. What a freakin waste of a pick. Go play your guitar and keep our GM’s name out of your mouth, This team has real football players now thanks to Licht.

  51. Rod Munch Says:

Bennett told you why he left – he wasn’t a Schiano Man.

  52. Rod Munch Says:

Odd post by Bowers, I followed him on Twitters for years and all he ever said was stuff that was insanely dull. Seems like a nice guy – not sure what Licht did to set him off, but I’d guess it was promising a camp invite or telling him to “stay ready” for an injury that they’d call and then they never did. Just a guess.
