Take It Easy!

June 7th, 2017

Bold prediction.

In the immortal words of famed Chicago sports talk radio host Mike North, “SLOW DOWN!”

Now Joe wants to see the Bucs in the playoffs as much as anyone. But Super Bowl? As North would also say to crazy callers, “Take it easy!”

But apparently Adam Rank of NFL.com has already jumped in the deep end of the pool and can’t come up for air. Rank has the Bucs winning the NFC title this winter and playing in the Super Bowl in frigid Minneapolis come February.

That’s right — the Bucs are my pick to represent the NFC this season in the Super Bowl. …

This team is poised for a run. Jameis Winston is on the verge of being one of the best quarterbacks in the game. He’s topped 4,000 passing yards in his first two seasons, and that number is only going to go up. Especially when you have Mike Evans, who is ready to assume the mantle of best receiver in the game. Watching Evans play, it almost seems unfair that a guy that big can do the things he’s able to do. And then you surrounded him with speedster DeSean Jackson and rookie tight end O.J. Howard.

Ease off the gas, man.

Yes, most NFL types are big on O.J. Howard if not Chris Godwin. Here’s the thing: Neither of those heralded rookies has worn anything more than a T-shirt, shorts and a helmet in practice. Let’s at least watch these guys in pads in August before we start booking flights to Minnesota in February.

Baby steps, man, baby steps. Let’s see if the Bucs can get to 10 wins first and then the playoffs.

Sure, Joe would love to see the Bucs in the Super Bowl just like Joe would like to have a shivering Rachel Watson ring his doorbell at 2 a.m. looking for comfort and warmth.

  1. Buc 4ever Says:

Seattle did it, why can’t we go to and win the Super Bowl. Look what Jameis did with the lack of weapons last year. Look at the injuries to our offensive and defensive lines, plus running backs…I could see us winning it all, but we must start with a win in Miami. We start the 1st quarter of the season 3-1 and we are on our way. And we can’t be afraid of the Patriots. They can be beat and I can’t to be there on Thursday night for a victory.

  2. Bill Byrne Says:

I totally agree with you Joe. One step at a time. The Bucs have been awful for 10 years and heading to the Super Bowl with a two year NFL quarterback is not realistic. All the hype for the Bucs coming from the media, coaches, players and fans concerns me. If we believe all the paper tigers this will be a long year and this is coming from a season ticket holder since 1997!!!

  3. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs are at least 18 (and more than likely 19) games away from playing in the Super Bowl. To get in this year, we’d have to win at least 12 games (and more than likely 13 or more games) to gain the right to play in the SB (which includes 2, more than likely 3, playoff wins). Could we do that? Yes … and potentially so could 31 other teams. And I think that’s why every coach I’ve ever known has always said the same thing: “One game at a time”.

Bucs have some excellent strengths right now (our coaching staff, a franchise QB and some very talented players on both sides of the ball), but so do most of the other teams who we play (Dolphins? Patriots? Packers? Falcons? Panthers? Saints? etc). Bucs can beat any of them I’m convinced, but it’ll take everyone stepping up to the plate in each game and consistently making big plays like we saw last year, not just the superstars. And yes, on top of that it’ll take a little luck too. Too many injuries can derail even the best season, as can things like ‘bad calls’ (which obviously never happen). “One game at a time”.

  4. RayJameisStadium Says:

    No Baby steps for Wins-a-ton!!!

You give Jameis weapons and he will show you the difference between last year and this year.

The off season was not about “baby steps.” Adam has the “boldness” to predict
S-U-P-E-R-B-O-W-L just like Joe predicted Martin looking for a new team in October!!!!

Needless to say ADAM is right on track!!!!

Are we going to MINNI? You Bet’cha!

    Go Bucs!!!

  5. RayJameisStadium Says:

Even our kicking problem is solved!!!

We are going to The Tundra and WIN Baby!!!

I want Brady and company so the world to witness the collapse of the old while Licht’s acquisitions come together to a new dawn!!!!!

I can see it now….just like Gruden……Koetter will hold the Lombardi while standing next to the Glazers!!!!!

Joe you can stay in your “Den of Depression.” The Celebration is on NOW!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!

  6. Phil Says:

Every team has one goal at the beginning of the season to win the Super Bowl. That should be our goal as well. We might not make it but I expect great effort from this team as they may not have all the pieces in place but we should at least be able to make some noise.

  7. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Phil

This what were talking about, the goal is to win the division!!!!! playoffs and superbowls are like season 2.0!!!!!!!! There is much to be excited about and this team will start checking the boxes off the list!!!! Be excited about the team achieving those marks as the season goes on, then reassess at the end of the season!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Tampa Tony Says:

I’m tired of low expectations-Jameis Winston

  9. The Other Side of the Coin Says:

The lucky teams will get to play the Bucs early in the year. Once the new guys get chemistry together and with Winston, other teams will have nightmares. Of course it’s injuries that will decide much of the fate of any team. I’ll risk the disappointment of seeing post season success. Bucs go 12 and 4. They make it to the NFC title game. Then maybe….

  10. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

“SLOW DOWN!”.. I can’t i’m ALL GAS no brakes.

  11. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

And you right 4ever Wilson’s third year inn produced a chip. Fameis cut from the same cloth. Read an article last night 15 GMs were asked about various teams off season. Collectively Light was given an A-. Most feel Desean was coup.

  12. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Make no mistake people, the Desean signing hasn’t went unnoticed by the NFL.

  13. RayJameisStadium Says:

    Old Bucs are gone!!!!

Only fear keeps you attach to the old Bucs!!!

    Let it Go!!!!

    Become a Stick Carrier!!!!

Licht has given us the key to a Lamborghini….petal to the METAL!!!!

We have a Bad A$$ team!!!

Some of you are too young to remember this kind of excitement. Yes!!! 2002!!!

Malcolm Glazer the original Stick Carrier. Spoke softly to acquire Gruden. It took guts to get Gruden. He had it!!!

Remember, Koetter will hold the trophy next to the Glazers!!!!!

    The time has come again!!!!

I celebrated then during the off season and I will do it again!!!!

Thank you Glazers, Licht, Koetter, Smitty and the B-A-D A-S-S TEAM!!!!!

    Fire them Cannons!!!!

    “I can’t i’m ALL GAS.”

    It might be your diet!!!!!

  15. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

☺Maybe so bro. Fartin out Ws fine by me.

  16. StPeteBucsfan Says:

This is about the difference between imagination and denial of reality.

Can anybody here imagine the Pats getting in the SB. OF COURSE. But they too have to avoid injuries and get some breaks.

How about the Cowboys, Pack, Steelers and a half dozen other teams. Can you IMAGINE them getting into the Super Bowl. Certainly!

Now how about the Cleveland Browns? No you can even IMAGINE the Browns in the SB. I have the same difficulty imagining at least another half dozen teams getting to the SB.

So here is the important queston Buc fans. Can you even IMAGINE the Bucs making it to Minneapolis.

Why HELLLL YEAHHHH!!!! And that imagination is a major difference this season. I do not recall the last time I felt the Bucs had this good of a chance.

  17. Cobraboy Says:

I’m much more concerned about the Dolphins on 9/10/2017 than whatever could happen on 2/4/2018.

Not to mention the SB will be played in Minneapolis in the dead of winter. Last time I was in Minneapolis in February, the HIGH was -5.

  18. broy34 Says:

isn’t Minneapolis gonna be in a dome? if not im not sure I even wanna go…cant watch them lose in the superbowl in the cold…last superbowl outdoors was dreadful…why do it to the fans again

  19. Bucsfanman Says:

There’s a lot that has to happen for us to be playing in the SB. That said, it is perfectly normal to be optimistic, especially with the off-season acquisitions.

  20. bucs_365 Says:

Too much hype is a bad thing. Coach Koetter is gonna have a big job keeping this team focused with all this hype PLUS Hard Knocks. This team is ripe for a big letdown if they pay attention to the media talk.

  21. NFLNut Says:

Outside of the Patriots being great every year the NFL is a crap-shoot … the Panthers and Falcons CAME OUT OF NOWHERE the last two years to win the NFC … the current Bucs team is more hyped than either of those teams were the last two years so it wouldn’t shock me at all to see the Bucs win the NFC … but … it also wouldn’t shock me to see the Packers, Seahawks, Falcons or Giants win the NFC … there is no prohibitive favorite in the NFC or even a consensus “top” like the Patriots and Steelers are in the AFC.

  22. Pickgrin Says:

One meeting, practice, training camp, pre-season and game at a time creates the season.

Are the Bucs talented enough to get to the Super Bowl? Maybe. Moreso than at anytime in the last 13 years.

We’ve got Winston so we’ve got a fighting chance. This will be the case for the next 15 years.

Licht has assembled a good team. A good YOUNG team that will get better and better.

Improvement is the key. Every meeting, every practice every game – improve, learn, grow – as individuals and as a team. If the Bucs can stay focused on that task and injuries are not too severe this season – we could have one hell of a team come January.

  23. JimmyJack Says:

Well let’s see, we put ourselves in a good spot last year and played a playoff type game vs the Cowboys. THey exposed our weaknesses and had the lead and firm control over us the whole game. In other words, they smacked us down.

Last time I saw the time I saw the Buccaneers they didn’t look like a team ready to contend. They got a lot to prove to even get to another primetime late season matchup first. As of right now I’m more worried about Miami then Super Bowls.

  24. The Buc Realist Says:

    @JimmyJoke

The Bucs took the lead in the third quarter!!!!! Did you watch the game?????? The cowboys kicked 3 field goals in the 4th to take the lead. They Bucs have the ball at the end of the game and a touchdown would have won it!!!!!!! Did you watch any games last year???????

Did you watch any games last year??????? You are worried about a retired Tackle performing this year in training camp, you are worried about competition for a Strong Safety (which because of rules and being a passing league is getting phase out) and now you don’t know the score of games and making wrong statements!!!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. JimmyJack Says:

Yeah I watched the game. I watched or listened to all the games. It was 6 months ago, sorry if I missed a detail. And I’m not worried about a retired player I said wrong name. Its not a big deal , stop trolling me about it dork.

  26. JimmyJack Says:

I responded to your moronic opinion about SS in the appropriate thread. Its is absolutely unnessarry to troll me about it here……especially since you had no rebuttal in the original comment section. Get a life kid

  27. The Buc Realist Says:

    @jimmyjoke

Just do a little fact checking and you will be fine with me!!!! You come posting in here, giving out false and wrong information!!! You are making these moves and then I have to correct you!!! just check some facts!!!!!!

Here, you this site http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ if you can’t remember what happened!!!!!!

  28. JimmyJack Says:

Get used to it Realist. It a comment section. We are not going to have perfect memory about every detail. I’m sure I’ll say something wrong again one day. Deal with it. There’s enough fans who watch game film in their free time. They’ll fix the mistakes.

    Don’t take it personally.

  29. The Buc Realist Says:

Even though you started in with me first, I have never “trolled you”!!! you are just putting out incorrect information and I have to correct it for you!!!! Shameful!!!!!!!

Follow your own advice, when you said this to Joe!!!!!!!!

    JimmyJack Says:
    May 10th, 2017 at 5:32 pm

Please don’t make up stats and say them as facts because us fellow Buc fans may repeat what we read and you make us look stupid with your lies.

  30. The Buc Realist Says:

I’ll say something wrong again one day. Deal with it.

I am!!!!! and I am trying to teach you!!!!!!! But your fighting it and saying I am trolling you!!!!! All I have done is to help you not to say dumb things!!!!! If anything, you should thank me for having your back!!!!!!

Just slow down, fact check, and you won’t hear from me!!!!!!!

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Its like I said. You had no rebuttal when the subject was at hand. That’s fine but don’t go silent there and bring it up here. That’s classic trolling bro.

If you got a problem with something I say then deal with it like a man or let it go. And you killed this comment section, thanks. Maybe I’ll see you on another and we can actually talk about football.
