Window Into O.J.’s Head

Interesting mindset.

Joe is loving hearing what he heard on NFL Network.

Last night, there was a feature breaking down the Buccaneers’ draft (sure, Joe will have more on that later) and it was intro’d (is that a proper term, TV folks?) with a focus on new Bucs tight end O.J. Howard.

Howard described what separates him from other tight ends and what makes him special, what drives him to be the best he can be.

Given his skills one might think Howard said scoring touchdowns or running over linebackers and corners. Nope. It seems Howard is a Mike Ditka-like throwback.

“Greg Olsen is a guy I love to watch,” Howard said about the star tight end of the Stinking Panthers. “The way he gets in there and run blocks.”

This was the first thing out of Howard’s mouth. He wasn’t worried about catches or touchdowns or YAC. He wants to blast linebackers on running plays

Joe’s kinda guy!

Love it, linebacker doesn’t know if he is coming to get blasted or beat for a touchdown

way to go joe!! i think our O-line gonna be just fine with OJ bringing the juice, with his blocking, i aint been this pumped over my beloved team, since they hired chucky. go bucs

Love this kid, he is a well rounded TE, his yard after catch are crazy good too..

I LOVE that Howard and Godwin are blockers also. The screens and outside runs should be interesting to say the least. The running backs are salivating.

    In Licht We Trust!!

    Now go get VJack!!!

  5. Joeypoppems Says:

That makes sense. He said the reason he went back to school for his senior season was to improve on his run blocking. Absolutely has that team first mindset.

  6. Rob Says:

Our run game this year will be like 2015. With Sweeny and Howard coming in. Martin should have the holes he needs. Yes you people who think Martin is gone. Just like I said were not drafting cook, we’re keeping Martin. As long as his head is right and from what I read, it is. Unless you get all your Doug Martin news here lol. He seems to be doing fine.

I tried watching Alabama games highlighting Howard but it was extremely frustrating to see how few times the ball was thrown his way. You could see his ability catch and run after the catch is exceptional.

  8. Tom Edrington Says:

One of the “cleanest” guys in the draft, a quality athlete who will add a new dimension to the offense, Bucs got lucky the other teams ahead of them had no tight end needs.

  9. Oj "I Got The Juice" Howard Says:

You better believe it. He is about to bring a whole other dimension to this offense. I can’t wait to sweep the falcons

  10. LargoBuc Says:

Sweeping the Falcons will be fun. Cant wait to mug them for that nfc south title.

  11. LocalJoker Says:

Does Luke Stocker still make this team?

  12. Jeagan1999 Says:

Been saying for months now, that OJ Howard will take our offense to a different level! Very pleased overall with how this draft shook out!

I think the NFC South is the most dangerous division in football now! We all know what Atlanta is capable of. As long as New Orleans has Brees, they will be competitive. And I think Carolina may surprise this season too….they added McCaffrey and Curtis Samuel, both dangerous weapons….to go along with Kelvin Benjamin and Greg Olson, for Cam Newton to get the ball to.

But I think the Bucs offense will be as potent as any we’ve seen recently. Can’t wait to see thes guys all on the field at the same time!

  13. The Other Side of the Coin Says:

Tom, you can’t say “the other teams ahead of them had no tight end needs”. You can say that every team ahead of them felt they had greater needs. No way Howard wouldn’t be an upgrade for many of them.

  14. CarolinaBucFan Says:

I forgot what poster said it, but they hit the nail on the head. Between his blocking and Mike Evans’ blocking, I reckon we’re going to get a lot of holes opened up in the run game, especially past the los

oj and brate will be dominate….our run game should be dominate….a little surprised we didn’t draft a oline man but love the overall draft…..

I think our defense is built to stop everyone in our division….good luck trying to run against big will, gmc, baker and ayers….good luck trying to out run LVD and beckwith to the outside….we have good depth in our secondary…everyone can cover and is solid in tackling….health will be the key….GO BUCS!!!!

  16. Brandon Says:

The word is “DOMINANT”… not “dominate”.

  17. Buc4Lyfe79 Says:

Greg Olsen might be able to run block now, but coming out of college to the Bears, he couldn’t block squat and had durability issues. That might not be the case now, but he still isn’t that much of a better blocker than Cam Brate. Sorry to break this to you Joe, but mister OJ was taking a successful name and bloviating, you might be but I am not impressed.

  18. BringBucsBack Says:

I’m glad O.J.is here but, he needs to be concerned about YAC. He goes out of bounds and to the ground a bit too easily for a dude his size, in my opinion.
