Want To Return? Make Team.

May 6th, 2017

Talks return game.

Winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter had a simple message for any of the underdrafted rookie free agents or perhaps one of the tryout players participating in this weekend’s rookie minicamp at One Buc Palace.

If you want to return kicks or punts, you better make the squad as a position player.

Koetter left little doubt what he feels about return guys making the roster this fall when he was asked who in minicamp looked as if he can return kicks and/or punts in the NFL.

“On their college tape, I mean, Justin Evans didn’t have a lot of tries but he had a really nice average,” Koetter said. “And then Bobo Wilson is a guy that’s got some return value. The first thing that a return guy has got to do first is make the 53[-man roster]. It’s going to be hard to make the 53 strictly as a return guy. You’re going to have to have a combination, so we’ll take a look at a few of them.”

Koetter added since the Bucs have improved their roster in depth and talent, a guy making the final-53 strictly as a return man is going to be much more difficult this year than it has been.

  5. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    Good stuff homie.

  6. Buccfan37 Says:

I’m not convinced that is NoS-BoS.

  7. Blake_bucsfan Says:

It is indeed him. I was scouring through the archives and found the thread where I originally bet him, and he gave me his number.

We were texting earlier about the how good we thought the draft was, and how excited we are for this season.

  8. SB Says:

If that is you Nos then send me a text so I can let everyone know.

  9. SB Says:

Yup. Just got confirmation as well. It is indeed Nos. Blake, you should go have a beer or three with him. Cool cat.

  10. Buccaneer Princess Says:

That’s me man☺. That was the Trubucfan22 bet. Maybe he’ll spare me after awhile and go back to my original tag.

  11. SB Says:

^^^^ Lol bro! On my main sites I lose my Avi name alot. We only bet for a week at a time tho.

  12. SB Says:

I say ‘main sites’ and it is kinda funny cause this is the first place I click in the mornings. I hang out at those other sites and chat football more tho.

  13. Mark Says:

Love the direction of this team! In two years we’ll have depth that should be starters in this league like Dungy had.

  14. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

    Props nos

  15. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Bob is the best return guy imo but not sure he will make it as a WR on our team. Evans, Jax, Godwin, Walker, Hump are locks so it just depends on how many we keep.

  16. Buccfan37 Says:

NoS… I was just wondering which FSU star the Bucs should eyeing up for next year. Welcome back man.

  17. Mojiska Says:

Way to man up!!!! I may not always agree with you, but you are a man of convictions and a man of his word! I will gladly respectfully spar with you on any football topic you want homie. Good man.

  18. COREYATX Says:

  21. macabee Says:

Go back to your handle, man. It’s who you are. It’s your personna. You have no reason to bow your head. You were admirable. You stood up for your man. You lost! Big deal! You’re going to lose again if you live long enough. I’ve been doing this stuff since 76. If you’re a Buc fan losing and hanging in there is a badge of honor. And the other guys enjoy the rap with you too – no harm, no fault.

So, pick up your sword, advance to the rear and live to fight another day. Lol. The next time I visit JoeBucsFan, I expect to see Nos/Bos live and in living color! Go Bucs!

  22. tmaxcon Says:

  23. SB Says:

Glad to see so many finally getting it. We are family on this site in a way. I lost a bet to Nos on this site and I paid up. I traveled back down to Florida last yr and hooked up with him in Otown and had some beers. Talking smack and backing it up is what we should all be about! It’s a BUCS LIFE afterall!

  24. tmaxcon Says:

nfl as part of the wussification of the nfl are doing whatever they can to eliminate returns the days of return specialist are over. I guess trump could not save that job.

  25. Pickgrin Says:

What a cute new name NOS. Props for honoring your bets including the name change.

You weren’t wrong about Cook’s talent nor his ability to help this team be better. But what you were wrong about was the Bucs interest in drafting him (or any RB probably) with a high pick.

The way things fell – I honestly don’t think the Bucs would have taken Cook at 19 if OJ was off the board. I think they would have taken Adore Jackson. And the main reason I say that is because once Cook fell well into the 2nd round – the Bucs could have used a 4th and 6th round pick to move up and get him at pick #40 or 39 or 38 etc. His value was certainly very high at that point. But they didn’t do it. The plan was pretty obviously to fill a bunch of other needs first and get a RB late in the draft as a decent one was likely to fall to the 5th. And by golly a pretty darn decent one did. I really like the potential of McNichols and I’m much happier about paying a 5th round pick for a RB instead of a 1st. OJ is the real deal who was a steal and that’s my schpeal.

Vikings got a steal at pick #41 without a doubt though too. I think Cook is going to be a very good NFL RB.

  26. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Glad you’re back. I agree with Macabee.

  27. SB Says:

Guys……I think the core family here on these threads should get stronger and stick together because the axles on this here Bandwagon are gonna get stressed as we Win Win Win!. Gonna be a Bunch of new posters here on JBF. Lets get right! 🙂

  28. Trubucfan22 Says:

Damn man i told you Cook was a second rounder haha.

  29. dooshlarue Says:

    Princess…….how fitting.

Schedule change?…….good one. AKA annual dissappearing act.

I didn’t realize they held Baker Acted people for more than 72 hours.
Maybe you spent the extra time hustling outside the Parliament House so you could make the cash to cover those bets?

Let me know if when you ain’t be feelin’ feeling fresh…..Doosh got you covered yo.

So cool to see the changes to how our roster is growing and becoming tougher to earn roster spots. Go Bucs!

  34. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

And thanks for the love to all y’all. From the bottom of mines for real. Blake got a good idea about invading south beach week one next season.

  35. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

And That was a kick @$$ draft. The Fameis to O.J. connection will be hard to handle for a loonnngg time. But those out here overly crticing my fav from the draft Justin Evans you might wanna pump ya brakes. I see a star in the making. Long arms, big hands, fast, instinctive and h3lla aggressive. I hear the tackling noise but that can be coached up. When I look at him I see so much ability there.

  36. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I almost missed you summer’s. Where ya partner Dave at???

  37. Trubucfan22 Says:

I knew you’d back out of the bet. It’s cool though. Surprised you even made any posts with it tbh.

And I love this draft as well…

Justin Evans is a future star. I can just feel it.

    Obviously OJ…

And I love love love the McNichols Pick.

He absolutely has the most overall ability in our RB group. He’s gonna be a stud for us. I know it.

And I also really like Beckwith and Stevie T.

  43. Bob in valrico Says:

Welcome back NOSBOS,looks like you got a lot of friends here.A rare” Rodney King” moment where we are all getting along.
I can identify Macabee’s comments. There once was a group of rabid Bucs fans pre superbowl years that worked in flats.they wore their colors proudly and went to all the games. Now the rest of us that had to work had to keep sneaking into the breakroom to watch the game.As long as the machines didn’t
break down we were good to go.Maintenance had it good back in those days.

  44. Bob in valrico Says:

There can only be one Macabee and he was one of those rabid Bucs fans.
