“That I’m-Going-To-Beat-The-Dog-Crap-Out-Of-You Edge”

May 18th, 2017

Bad man

So guard J.R. Sweezy hasn’t worn pads and hit anyone since he was signed by Tampa Bay 14 months ago, yet somehow the team knows Sweezy is one of the baddest hombres in the NFL.

Today, Joe asked O-line coach George Warhop how the team really knows Sweezy is nasty.

Warhop explained he knows because in practice this week, he’s the guy holding the blocking dummies.

“We’re in Phase 2, so the players aren’t allowed to hold the bags. We get to hold the bags. So I get to feel him every day. That’s how I know he’s got it,” Warhop said.

Warhop continued: “He’s got a little bit of Logan [Mankins] to him, which I thought we missed last year. That, that, I don’t even know how to describe it. That I’m-going-to-beat-the-dog-crap-out-of-you edge. So he has that. Just one day at a time with him.”

What a gift from the football gods it would be if Sweezy can be the very rare offensive lineman (the first?) to return healthy and ready for a full season after not practicing or playing for a year because of back surgery.

If Sweezy is this nasty and, obviously, very hungry to return and prove himself, it’s going to be one wild training camp for the guys lined up across from him. Throw in a hungry Ali Marpet at his new center position, and Joe believes the likelihood of training camp fights will rise considerably.

as long as Sweezy is good our offensive line will be good. Really excited about this year

There is no way that he is “hungrier” than fat donald penn!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Jon Says:

What is the name of the Buc who was to move from guard to tackle, had just signed a big extension then hurt his back and never played again? I always think of that when Sweezy comes up.

How many lineman have even been in this unique situation? A 28 year old offensive lineman who only missed 2 games in his last 3 seasons before a full year back injury?

It really comes down to the medical science. Is this a chronic thing? Is his body now more likely to sustain an injury than it was before this happened? If no to either of those and he’s 100% healthy there really shouldn’t be anything to worry about. But I’m not a doctor.

  9. JonBuc Says:

He’s good with bags…hitting them when held by coaches. Last year…he ran off with bags of money…so there is indeed steady improvement!

  10. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Usually a player has to get on the field before Bucs fans hate him. This guy has managed to do so without stepping on the field. I’m holding out hope he will be a good player for us.

  11. Lord Cornelius Says:

It’s honestly one of the more ridiculous things I’ve read when it’s suggested Sweezy’s injury was some calculated move on his part

For one – why the F8ck would anyone want to have a f*cked up back?? Have you hurt your back before? It sucks!

Second – he already has lost money because of the injury. You think that makes Sweezy happy?

If you think his back wasn’t f*cked up; that means you think that the team trainers & doctors are all in on it too which is a joke.

We need to remember this quote if Sweezy has a good year for the Bucs.

BucInjJax..You nailed the comments I was going to make. Everytime Joe post this photo of easy Sweezy with that Sh..eatin grin on his face and the floppy
disk hat, I’m reminded of a Spinmaster supreme whose already gotten his money for nothing and his chicks for free while smoking a bowl to relive his pain! My man, Sweez the Spinner!

  16. Stpetebucsfan Says:

This is a tough league to play in without passion, without a genuine love of the game, just for money.

I echo Lord C…these guys WANT to be on the field. They realize they only have a limited number of years in what is very short year. They HATE wasting them to injury.

As for OL who have made it back…If you consider TE as part of the OL Rob Gronkowski comes to mind…and he came back from a herniated disk.

OL Ross Tucker was told about the 12-week recovery period, too, when he underwent surgery for a herniated disk in his back in 2005.

Tucker, a seven-year NFL offensive lineman, played through the injury the season before, but finally decided in April to undergo surgery. And sure enough, he was in pads and ready to go for the first day of training camp with the Bills in 2005.

There really is cause for hope and medical achievements are moving at warp speed. Sweezy may become a trendsetter. After all there had to be a Tommy John before a Tommy John surgery.

  17. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Stpetebucsfan

The way that Sweezy reworked his contract was very encouraging!!!!! If he was all about the money, he could have told them to pound sand and get a huge injury settlement!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!

When I read this quotes, I don’t look at the names.

When I read something that is negative, I automatically know it’s either Tmax or Kobe. I am 100% right it’s one of them every time.

Seriously, why do you guys comment? I get playing devil’s advocate, but you guys are just being devils. Everything is always negative.

I comment a lot on here cuz I love this team. If I don’t like something, I say it. You guys never say anything positive.

I feel sorry for you. Step it up.

Exactly. He doesn’t sign that if he doesn’t have extreme motivation to play and produce. The idea that he purposefully made up a back injury to fleece the Glazers is about as realistic as the idea that the entire NFL draft is rigged like the WWE in the way Nole was suggesting as his reasoning for the prediction of us getting Dalvin Cook lol. No offense Nole I love you man!

    @Joe
After working out in the sun all day again today, my recollection might be off at this point, but didn’t Jeff Faine make a successful return from back surgery?

  22. RayJameisStadium Says:

    TBR is Spot On!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!

  23. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Lord I got love for you too bro☺. As for Sweez I’m confident he’ll be beasting next season. No two players or bodies are the same but Akeem Spence managed to come back and be okay following a back injury. This attitude of nasty can and will be infectious thru-out our O line next season(remember Phamphile’s comments a week or so ago). Sorry DB but after seeing him not only not back down to Aaron Donald but handle him twice I became a fan of J.R. Sweezy. This before I had any knowledge the Bucs were targeting him in free agency.

  24. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

H3ll to be honest Sweez is at the top of my can’t wait to see list on offense next season.

  25. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

Sweezy will help out our OLine big time. Both he and OJ will significantly help our running game and when Doug gets back, combined with our lethal passing attack, our running game will be lethal as well.

  26. Issic Haggins Says:

Really wish Licht would sign another Vet corner and let the best players win !!!

Who gives a dam if you lose a Mil on a bonus this year if you gotta cut em ,it’s about getting better and if they think they are set at Db for a Super Bowl RunRun at Db, they are dreaming !! Bringing in another quality vet, has only upside now and in the future !!!
