Adam Humprhies Just Missed A Key Goal

May 26th, 2017

Adam Humphries speaks

Adam Humphries was among the least dangerous punt returners in the NFL last season.

However, he was one of the most consistent PR guys in the league — in a good way.

“Hump,” aka Rudy!, averaged 9.9 yards per return. That was seventh best in the NFL. Pretty damn good! But Humphries’ longest return was 25 yards. Not good.

Joe talked to Humphries about his future returning punts this week, and Humphries shared that he just about hit his goal last season.

“Last year I think the goal was averaging 10 yards per return, about eight yards to 10 yards a return. I think I ended up with 9.9,” he said.

Returner preparation for him is all about setting goals, Humphries said, which include trusting the guys blocking for him implicity, a major key to success.

Lots of guys have returned punts for the Bucs during spring practices, including Lavonte David. That doesn’t mean Humphries will lose his job, but he’s not assuming anything. His offseason as a returner will be all about pushing to improve. “Just continuing to set goals regardless of whether I’m back there or not,” Humphries said.

Joe can’t imagine what Buccaneer would beat out Humphries at returner. Maybe undrafted Florida State receiver Bobo Wilson finds a way to make the team as the No. 5 receiver and win the returner job? But that’s quite a long shot.

I bet when the season opens, Adam will be returning punts for us.
Unless we find some lucky pickup when teams start cutting guys.

  2. SB Says:

For all the Hype we are getting from the Four letter we are Still getting no respect.
    Odds to win the NFCS:
    NFC South

    Falcons 8-5
    Panthers 2-1
    Bucs 4-1
    Saints 4-1
    ………..
WE HAVE THE SAME ODDS AS THE FREAKING SAINTS?!?!?!?!?
Who are these as$clowns that make these odds up?

Who really cares about respect we are getting right now? Not sure why its important now, or ever. Win games, go to the playoffs, keep winning. Youll get your wanted respect and the rest of us will get wins!!

  4. unbelievable Says:

SB I think it’s always that way from BSPN. Even when we won the Superbowl.

I used to get mad about it, now I just say screw it.

I’ve fully embraced being the underdog / under-the-radar / forgotten team.

  5. SCBucsFan Says:

I like Hump as the returner. He’s not the best in the league, by a long shot, but he also doesn’t make many mistakes. He only muffed a return once last year, if I recall correctly.

    @SB-

We should be glad that not everybody is buying the hype. The Bucs are the most overhyped team of the offseason, but they’ve proven nothing yet. I’d rather that they have more skeptics until they actually do something.

  7. SB Says:

I get both of your points darin and UB and I feel the same. I just think the hypocrisy is crazy. One minute you hear we are the favorite to unseat the Failcons next thing you know the Stinking Panthers are Twice the favorite we are. Just completely Illogical. ‘Good to see you UB!

  8. Lamarcus Says:

I like hump doing kick returns. Just wasn’t a dangerous one

  9. Capt.Tim Says:

Humphries is a heck of a story. I sure wouldnt bet against him.
With all the lethal weapons that the Bucs gave aquired, Adam may benefit from them the most.
I would love to see him have a big season! Hes earned it!
And he will have the chance!

  10. Brion Says:

I feel like I’m living in Boston every time there is a story on this guy. Nobody nationally even cares or know a who this guy is. Does he even make the roster on another team?

  11. Brion Says:

I feel like I am living in Boston every time there is an article on this guy.

  12. LongSeason Says:

We have A-Hump, ME (Millennium), DJax, O-How, C-Bra (C Cup), C-God. Too bad we don’t have a Charles or Carl Humphries because we would then have C-Hump (CHumo).

  13. LongSeason Says:

Ack! Ack! Joe need edit feature on board. Should be C-Hump (CHump).
