Earn Your Money, Dirk!

April 27th, 2017

Christmas goodies for everyone.

Sure, Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffery went to the Jaguars and Panthers, respectively, but look how fast and furious pass catchers moved through this draft.

Three wide receivers went in the top-10 of the first round. Who saw that coming?

Corey Davis (No. 5), Mike Williams (No. 7) and John Ross (No. 9) jumped off the board. Then a quarterback, Patrick Mahomes goes to the Chiefs, who paid a giant ransom to move up from No. 27 to No. 10 to get him.

Guys who throw and guys who catch dominated the early part of the first round.

So it was really no surprise that the Bucs pounced on tight end O.J. Howard and dangerous seam route running he can deliver. What a matchup nightmare, especially with two premier wide receivers in DeSean Jackson and Mike Evans.

You can find running backs, but you don’t find elite tight ends, dangerous ones who can also block.

Sure, Joe would have applauded in ecstasy for running back Dalvin Cook at No. 19, but the Bucs can still get much better at running back in this draft. Howard was a unique weapon that will let Dirk Koetter finally exercise all his tools as a playcaller in Tampa.

Howard and Cameron Brate at tight end? Get to work, Dirk. Earn your cash!

This offense will be one of the best now we have OJ and DeSean

    ….thrown in ME13……sheit!!!!!

Other teams Dcord will have alot of sleepless nights!

  2. Rod Munch Says:

But Brate caught a bunch of a touchdowns… I remember someone say that we don’t need a TE because Brate caught a bunch of TDs, like the same logic that said NE didn’t need a RB because Blount ran for a bunch of TDs…

Anywho I love the pick, the Bucs offense was a monster when Brate and ASJ were on the field in 2015, and there’s little doubt that OJ should be better than ASJ.

  3. Guzzie Says:

Dirk had Tony Gonzales he knows how to use a weapon like OJ, next comes Mixon, Foreman, Kamara, Hunt, Hill, doesn’t matter who’s running the ball they will be facing 7 in the box all game

  4. Luke Says:

Soooooooooo wrong. Come on what drugs are you on Howard’s… he’ll be gone in three years

  5. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Blocking is so critical……OJ is a true TE….that can block and do it all

  6. NJBucsFan Says:

Where is NOS? I’ve looked on every story

  7. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Luke

    You’re a troll

  8. Leighroy Says:

    +1 to Guzzie

  9. Tampa Tony Says:

    Weaponsforwinston… mission accomplished

  10. NJBucsFan Says:

Like is NOS who is Joe

    Butthurt

  11. NJBucsFan Says:

    luke*

  12. TheBucsAnthem Says:

NOS is on hold with all of the other FSU and cook Homers on the suicide prevention hotline …..

    Lol…..Jk

I made a bet with him about cook…..no he gotta pay up!

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Weaponsforwinston = Still one D Jackson injury away from being right back to where we were last year unless OJ can play out wide… which he might be able to.

  14. Buc1987 Says:

    Merry Christmas everyone!

  15. Big Marlon B Says:

2- Zay Jones, 3- Marcus Maye, 4- Joe Mixon please.

Or 2- Budda Baker/Josh Jones, then 3- Cooper Kupp

  16. martinii Says:

    GRRRRRRREAT Pick.

  17. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

    NJ… Don’t know I’m looking too
Can Nos Bos, be a man n stand up NOW. Not that it matters but so many here will lose any respect for you. More talk of you than Cook

  18. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Now, back to what I was posting 2 months ago: our 2TE sets will be impossible to guard. Is it a pass or a run? They don’t know?! Play action will kill teams in this set!

  19. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Lol browns take peppers

  20. Dreambig Says:

Seems like a BPA pick for sure. Howard is a beast but seems like a bit of a luxury pick when we already have Brate. Hope they find a adequate running back later in the draft because that cupboard is practically bare. Right now our only liget #1 running back is Drug Martin. Better fix it or it doesn’t matter how many pass catchers you have if you can’t balance things out with a running game. Here is to hoping they find a quality RB in later rounds. Not disappointed because Howard is fantastic, but not sure we needed to add a TE with our #1 pick.

  21. Buc1987 Says:

Now is the bet that Cook goes at 19 to the Bucs or that he’s going to be a Buc?

Cause he is still out there as we type. Just wondering. He’s talked a LOT about Cook for the past 3 months it’s hard to keep up with it all.

I thought it was going to be Cook. When they read Howard’s name off I jumped out of my chair. Wow. Let’s do this thing now.

We have more draft to go too.

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We might trade back into the first.

The Bucs really liked Taco, and he is still on the board as BPA.

  23. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I would love to pull up all the cocky NOSBOS posts over the last few months, but I’m too happy to do it. I wonder why he’s so quiet? He’s probably at work. I’m going to go out on a limb and say had we drafted Cook he would have been able to pound his chest a little.

  24. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

New England has been killing the NFL with dual tight ends for years.
This player was barely used at Alabama, and will come into his own here in Tampa.
    Good Pick !

  25. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Where do u get that they like taco? They guy isn’t a pass rusher. He’s a base end. Good against the run with very little pass rush upside.

  26. jaf811 Says:

As a die hard FSU homer I am beyond ecstatic with OJ I never dreamed we’d be in position to draft him. Cook needs to go to Green Bay or somewhere where he’d excel

  27. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Best player available period on of a kind awesome pick!

  28. NJBucsFan Says:

How many times did we open a series with 2 TE sets? Instead of Stocker or Myers and Brate we will have Howard and Brate.

no FB with dJax and ME13

    Pretty potent

  29. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I still can’t believe OJ fell to us

  30. Tampa Tony Says:

More like earn your money Mike Smith

    He’s gotta scheme against

    McCaffrrey
    AP/Ingram
    ATL RB’s

    Dang

  31. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Anytime you can get the best player available to fill a big need, that’s a really good pick.

  32. Wombat Says:

    The Bucs just got better!

  33. Dewey Selmon Says:

If OJ would have been, Cook would be a Buc. We made the right choice, We got the #1 TE. BPA always prevails.

  34. Bob in valrico Says:

speed of Vernon davis and the size of Tony gonzalez, what a combination.
Expect jameis to be a lot more comfortable this year, with our two new receiving threats.

  35. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Yeah

    I’m not impressed with Taco

    except at Taco Bell 😉

  36. JimmyJack Says:

This offense is built for a TE like this. It absolutely is a need IMO.

  37. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Buc1987, I knew it wouldn’t be Cook, especially once players started falling. Howard was not only on my list, but marked as a likely Bucs pick, along with a few others.

I think we trade up now…either back into the first or higher in the second.

  38. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Good pick by failclowns. I like tak but not anymore

  39. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Has anybody seen any tweets from our players. I suspect they’ll all be happy..especially #3!

  40. Kobe Faker Says:

    TEs has 14+ year careers

Jameis + Evans + OJ for the next 10 years in their prime

We are a nightmare to defend. Teams do not have enough good defenders to matchup and stop our offensive fire power

  41. lurker Says:

seriously, who does not like this pick? and why?

  42. Pickgrin Says:

A 3rd and a 5th moves us up from 50 to 31. Just sayin. Don’t be surprised if we move up for Cook at the end of the 1st. The value on his talent is getting to the point of extreme.

And if Cook makes it past the 1st round – our 3rd round pick is exact value to go from 50 to 33 at the top of the 2nd round.

  43. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Takkarist reminds me of Sherman.

  45. JimmyJack Says:

If this guy pans out he could be the answer to our third and 1 woes…….That would add extreme potential to this offense!!!! I’m excited

  46. Trubucfan22 Says:

The reason TE was a need was that we needed to constantly bring in extra o lineman to block because we had no good depth at TE, no good blocking TEs (when stocker was always hurt) it made the offense predictable. “Bring in that extra o lineman? So you’re running the ball, good to know.”

With Howard, a 2 TE set has: ME, DJ, CB, And OJ. How in the hell does a defense defend this with a base formation? And if they play the pass, and bring in extra Dbs, then we gash then with the run game. 2 TE set is the bucs best friend right now. Dirk and Jameis’ jobs just got a lot easier. No need to get fancy, our offensive talent will out perform any defense. Desean already made it impossible to load the box for a defense, now with OJ defenses have no way to defend him and defend the run at the same time. Pick your poison, you’re already dead.

  47. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Falcons are probably putting their faces in palms right now. Watch Goodell suspend Takkarist for swearing on national TV and then saying “I don’t care! Fu#$ing fine me later!”

    lol

Going to be fun kicking his arse.

  48. Ocala Says:

If we somehow could end up getting Dalvin and OJ out of this draft
    Wow!

  49. JimmyJack Says:

Anybody who thinks we didn’t need TE cause of Brate is sadly mistaken. Like Brate but he has limited ability. No other TEs to talk about either

  50. Sunny Says:

Just need cook/ mixon and JuJu/copper

  51. Guzzie Says:

Dalvin Cook is really close to being out the 1st lol Fing FSU homers

  52. NJBucsFan Says:

Can we please get off of Cook? He’s overrated by most of you because he went to FSU.

3 years there and 3 surgeries. Similar stats to Ameer Abdullah coming out of college and fumbled.

If he went to another school…say UCLA, Notre Dame, Texas, or West Virginia would anyone know his name or pound the table for him?

Jason Licht will make the best pick for the team not continue the streak of drafting Seminoles.

  53. FireDaCannons Says:

Will gladly take Howard and just about any 2nd or 3rd round RB over Cook and whatever else in the 2nd/3rd.

Way to stick to the board, Bucs. Champions let the draft come to them, not reach for the trendy big name.

  54. Blake_bucsfan Says:

If we move up for any Rb in round 2, it won’t cost much, and it will be for Joe Mixon.

  55. Buccfan37 Says:

NoS-BoS already said he would respond after the draft. Probably meeting with his financial advisor.

  56. BuccaneEric75 Says:

37, he’s probably drafting a will after we drafted OJ!

  57. unbelievable Says:

    #4Verticals

  58. Bucballbaby84 Says:

When will you guys give up on cook? It’s not going to happen lol.

  59. NFLNut Says:

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I stumped for O.J. right from the start and explained that Jameis loves 2-TE sets and that OJ Howard would be the best possible pick as he is a true 3-down TE that never needs to come of the field … however I didn’t actually think he would still be on the board at #19 as the chatter was he could go high as #4 or at the lowest #10.

OJ is the type of player that could be with Jameis for the next 10+ years, have a HOF career and be one of the best TE’s to ever play the game!

    I AM STOKED!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I will say that if we get Cook or JOE MIXON, we could have the scariest, most talented, most dynamic and flat-out BEST group of 5 skill players in the entire NFL.

Mike Evans and D-Jax on the outside with OJ and Brate on the line and either Cook or Mixon in the backfield … NO DEFENSE COULD MATCH UP WITH THAT … that would be sick!!!!!

  60. NFLNut Says:

One more thing … nearly ALL the teams picking #6-18 were IDIOTIC to pass on OJ Howard … every single one of them!

I’m calling a HALL OF FAME career right now … I truly believe that!

  61. NFLNut Says:

To think Corey Davis went #5 and Jon Ross went #9 and that the Titans INSANELY passed on OJ at #18 just blows my mind … this kid has HOF’er written all over him … he and Jameis can be an amazing duo for the next 10+ years … think Jason Witten if he had Ben Roethlisberger for his entire career!

  62. Rod Munch Says:

NFLNut – The Titans have Walker at TE, he’s one of the best in the league – and their corners are nearly as bad as our safeties, the had no real choice. The Titans with their cupcake schedule should be in good shape.

  63. NFLNut Says:

^ Delanie Walker is OLD and Adoree Jackson is anything but a sure thing … I can’t imagine how stoked Mariota would have been had he got Corey Davis and OJ Howard …
