“You Try To Tire Him Out”

March 2nd, 2017

One tactic works on GMC, says an acclaimed NFL coach.

Haters: Time to eat your oats.

Winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter often says that when he led the offense of the Dixie Chicks, the main riddle he had to solve to make sure he napalmed Lovie Smith’s defense succeeded against the Bucs was to game plan against Gerald McCoy.

Koetter noted his offense would have its hands full if he didn’t devise a way to take out GMC, Koetter’s successor in Atlanta pretty much said the same thing yesterday.

New 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan stepped up to a podium at the NFL combine in Indianapolis with the Indiana Convention Center serving as its beehive. Joe asked Shanahan what makes the Bucs perennial Pro Bowler at defensive tackle difficult to match-up against and whether Shanahan had to game plan against GMC.

Shanahan said it was his experience that only one thing seemed to work against GMC: fatigue.

“You try to tire him out,” said Shanahan, who faced the Bucs four times as Dixie Chicks offensive coordinator. “When he is going, he is as hard — if he knows what is happening, it is tough for anyone in the league to block him. He comes off the ball too hard, too quick, too physical. So you have to tire him out. You have to wear him down. You have to keep him guessing.

“How are you going to block him? Are you going to cut him? Stay high? Go at him or from the backside? But if he knows [what the offense is trying to do], it is going to be a long day.”

So Joe has a question for the haters: If GMC is so rotten to the core as you believe, why would Koetter and Shanahan lie?

Why would they waste so much valuable time in their work week trying to game plan against a guy who is no good? It doesn’t add up for Joe.

Or could it be the haters are just misguided souls?

Another reason to shore up the DT with Poe. Get a rotation and don’t make him have to be dominant in the physical trench 75 plays a game.

  2. dooshlarue Says:

Yeah if we get Poe, maybe he can give ol’ Softie 93 a helping hand to assist opposing players up off the turf, thus increasing GMC’s stamina.
Then 93 can stay fresh so he can “have fun” for a full 60 minutes.

Ice cream and smiles and puppy dogs for all!

  3. YeahISaidIt Says:

Forget POE we need Calias Campbell

  4. D-Rome Says:

If GMC is selected to three more pro bowl games and makes a couple of more All-Pro teams that his chances of making it into the Hall of Fame go up dramatically. I’m not saying he’ll be a first ballot Hall of Famer but he’ll have his day. He probably has five more productive years left.

  5. PRBucFan Says:

Calais all day lol, no ty to Poe

  6. martinii Says:

GMC receives perpetual double team treatment. That makes him a huge distraction and a game plan for any team we play. We need to stop measuring him buy the number of Sacks he gets and realize he is not a Pro Bowler every year for being a slacker. Not to change the subject but I have a stupid question, I just read the Buc’s offered Mike Glennon $7 Mil. If another team pays him more, how do we not qualify for a Compensation Pick?

  7. tdtb2015 Says:

    ^CC is the ticket!

Have the opposing OC plan for more than one linemen.

If we get CC, I see Joe having to change the den’s name before pre-season.

    In Licht we trust!

  8. Clodhopper Says:

It seems that plan works like a charm since he’s always gassed. Unless its third and one. Then he’ll fall for the hard count and jump just as quick and hard as possible.

  9. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Just seems like most NFL teams have figured out the riddle.

  10. dooshlarue Says:

And yes to Calais Campbell over Poe.

  11. Capt.Tim Says:

As I’ve said for years. McCoy is our best player.
We can afford Campbell and Poe, plus a very good Wr.
    Then we draft offensive playmakers

    Nuff said

  12. 1Gr8Buc Says:

D-rome stealing my facebook profile pic. You’re welcome dude. Not mad at all.

  13. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Some people here are such haters they have NO PRIDE!! They look like imbeciles.

And so we are expected to believe the same half dozen posters who continually render themselves incredible…or….NFL professionals who are actually earning their living dealing with GMC.

Some are simply morons who have aptly named themselves and say all manner of hateful crap like conflating Chelsea Clinton’s mouth with her rectum…nice post Clodhopper….your parents must be proud to have raised such a hater!!!

I went to Vietnam because I was proud to serve this country. With morons making the most tasteless comments…wearing tshirts at rallies with the C word printed on them…having their 12 year old boys rush a stage and scream take the b!tch out…cowardly shooting a father in a theater where guns were not even permitted….

The ONLY thing that gives me hope is remembering back to when I went overseas. 1968 was a bad year as well. We shot the progressives back then…killed two Kennedy’s…MLK…cities were on fire…certain clodhopperish men with weak masculinity had to demean our women then because they dared to demand equality….it was worse then…. but it’s become just as hate filled now.

And so why are we supposed to hate GMC? Because he dared to show sportsmanship…or treat his fellow teammates to ice cream….wow! What a transgression.

Now wait for the keyboard toughies to drop in and try troll us some more with their “badness”. If anybody has been as fortunate as me to stand on an NFL sideline they realize there are NO softies out there….it’s freaking crazy out on the field….grown huge incredibly fast men trying to take each other’s heads off.

Oh but wait…it’s soooo much tougher to come on a sports blog and hurl insults.
And since I just intentionally insulted about a half dozen poster here I guess that makes me a baaaad man! I’m so very tough!

  14. PRBucFan Says:

If it was more than a game, I’d understand. But it’s not so… lol.

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Excellent article Joe. Too many Bucs fans don’t seem to appreciate what they’ve got in having GMC as their primary DT it appears. But obviously the Bucs coaches do. Bucs defense was on the field for 1,062 snaps last year … McCoy played 794 of those (75%), 7th most of any DT in the NFL. And he did that in 15 games (other DTs who had more snaps did so in 16 games, except for Buckner). Subtract that 1 game from the total defensive snaps and GMC was on the field 79% of the defensive plays last year.

No other Bucs’ DT even came close. McDonald had 484 snaps (46%) in 12 games. Lambert had 373 snaps (35%) in 12 games and A. Spence had 370 snaps (35%) in 16 games. When you look at the playoff teams, their DTs weren’t on the field anywhere close to what GMC was. Not too hard to see how GMC could wear down later in the 2nd half.

Bucs need to grab another DT obviously to create a better rotation and keep our other DTs fresher. Interestingly, 2 of the DTs who had more defensive snaps than GMC last year (Calais Campbell and Dontari Poe) are both FAs right now. Either would help obviously, but personally I’d prefer Campbell since he could also play some DE. Also need to keep McDonald & A. Spence (if his price is right). Then draft another DE this year and Bucs should have a much-improved DLine.

  16. DallasBuc Says:

All you “haters” just stop asking where the great magician Geraldini disappears to for long stretches of the game and always at the end of the game. It’s just magic you haters of magic and magic people with magical powers of disappearance!

  17. PRBucFan Says:

Not everyone is going to like or agree on the same players.

I highly doubt you have thought EVERY player to have dawned a Bucs jersey was good.

So they don’t agree on every player, that’s part of being a fan of this “game”.

    It’s nothing more, nothing less.

  18. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

I have my Hall of Fame tickets already booked five years after Geraldine retires. 30 years retired Air Force here and Bucs fan since 1977.

  19. Joe Says:

Thank you for your long service Scotty!

  20. LargoBuc Says:

As long as Gerald is still able to produce, we will be fine and the negative perception wont matter.

  21. Buc4Lyfe79 Says:

Further cements the fact that it has been a dam CRIME that GMC has had little to no even adequate help around him for the majority of the years he’s been a Buc. Absolute SHAME on you GLAZERS for thinking you had a clue about Michael Bennent, and SHAME on you more if you don’t add another ESTABLISHED and LEGIT threat to line up next to him. You really going to bank on 30something Robert Ayers? How about, you wake up and realize that the better caliber of players you have on the d line with him at the same time, helps the D line as a whole be more effective, which more times than not, equals getting of the field sooner, which dam sure equals less reps on the field, which dam sure equals less risk of injury for ALL those involved. Doesn’t THAT qualify as a return on your investment? You are supposed to be business men correct?

  22. A-Train Says:

    JOE,

I don’t believe anyone thinks GMC is terrible or not a Good player.

MY BIGGEST complaint is GMC does not play up to the elite He is paid at..

GMC gets tired and he takes plays off.. Be Fair and call it

  23. Joe Says:

MY BIGGEST complaint is GMC does not play up to the elite He is paid at..

Well, would the Bucs be better off with him gone and his salary off the books? Doesn’t seem like his salary is killing the salary cap in any way.

Trust Joe, you don’t want Akeem Spence taking over for GMC.

  24. d-roca Says:

    A train.
Welcome to the nfl. Everyone gets tired. If ur saying hes overpaid youre insulting the whole organization. Get over it. Im underpaid n im not crying. If u cant get on the field n do better than him then shut it n root for him. While hes a buc at least. Go bucs

  25. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

A-train, you’re wrong on that one. The way Phallusbuc and Tmaxypad denigrate him constantly is evidence that they think he’s garbage.

I’ve seen them suggest that he cohld easily be replaced by Clinton Mcdonald pr Akeem Spence. Which is laughable.

  26. DallasBuc Says:

Blake- you’ve never seen me suggest that. Stop making sht up.

  27. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

The problem with GMC, is his aww shucks get em next time attitude, so he plays good for one quarter then thinks that he did his job, then gets rested for next game

  28. Buc1987 Says:

“Why would they waste so much valuable time in their work week trying to game plan against a guy who is no good? ”

Well Joe whatever it is they are doing, it’s working. Perhaps they mentioned so much about him, cause the Bucs don’t really have that much on D to game plan for.

They sound like they’re talking about Reggie White or someone if that ilk.

    Whatever they’re doing. It’s working.

  29. Buc1987 Says:

Blake…you have to check your facts first before you drop something down about a poster in here. Learned that long ago.

I can see Tmax saying that about GMC, prolly not Dallas though.

  30. gotbbucs Says:

Defense Rules made the argument against having GMC here while he was trying to defend him. Do you understand what you said when you claimed that playoff teams don’t have DT’s on the field for as long as McCoy is on the field? Playoff teams don’t pay one trick pony 3-techs $100 million dollar contracts. Playoff teams have multiple players that can play multiple positions, (multi-scheme fits) and college football is absolutely loaded with tweeners like that so you can continually draft those kinds of kids.
Building your entire scheme around a 3-tech DT that can’t move out to end, who has an injury history, who is useless against the run, and who every team has learned can be game planned out of effectiveness is borderline asinine. If all he is good for is flying off the ball like a bull in a china shop on every play and creating lanes in the opposing teams running game then he should stand on the sideline until 3rd down.
This team would not miss GMC. Without him they would sign or draft a legit Nose Tackle and get other DT’s that are a better fit in a multi scheme system. I’m praying that they sign Brandon Williams, Calais Campbell, and Will Gholston and phase GMC out of the defense.

I’ve said it a thousand times, this team will not be a consistent winner until he is gone. Not because I don’t think he has his place in the NFL, but because this organization puts way too much emphasis on trying to build around him and it blows up on them every year when he inevitably gets banged up and has to sit out or is rendered ineffective.

  31. gotbbucs Says:

….and GMC is no Hall of Famer, give me a freaking break.

  32. D-Rome Says:

D-rome stealing my facebook profile pic. You’re welcome dude. Not mad at all.

Wow, I didn’t know. I found it on Google Images. It made me laugh. I wouldn’t even know where to find you on Facebook since I don’t know your name.

  33. Bucsfanman Says:

StPete and Defense pretty much sum it up so I won’t pile on.

@87- You have a good point which is why I defend GMC. The defense as a whole hasn’t played well since the Earth cooled and yet somehow it’s always GMC’s fault. Why is he always singled out? His pay? It is the single-most tired conversation on these message boards.
This is a factual statement: We are better with GMC than without.
I dare someone to argue THAT point. Go ahead. So a GMC-less lineup would look something like this:
    RE- Ayers
    DT- McDonald
    DT- Spence
    LE- Jaq Smith/ Gholston

Yeah right! That’s a waaaay better lineup!!!

  34. ClodHopper Says:

Lol StPete. I won’t talk politics in this here part of JBF because many people don’t like it here and it’s disrespectful to them and I’m good people. There’s a place for that kinda talk. But jeeze man. That was like three days ago, and speaking of rectums, it sounds like yours is still pretty sore.

  35. Dirks GreatGranpappy Says:

    Bucsfanman

You’re spot on ESP when you lay it out like that.

We act like ayers is a god when he is marginal at best..irrespective of him being pissed off or not. Being pissed hasn’t gotten him 15 sacks esp none in the fourth quarter when it counts

So we have a dt in McCoy who is paid not as much as some think compared to others at his position and performs equally if not better and is also regarded as one of the best around the entire league yet tmax and others call him soft and garbage bc he’s a nice guy and plays thru injuries.

We then have ayers who is mean and angry and pissed off yet he gets a pass bc He doesn’t help someone off the turf.

Give gmc some legitimate help. Jack smith and spence are the same as Freddy martino or russel shepherd.

    #weaponsforwinston #doublehastag #weaponsforthedline

  36. Wausa Says:

The biggest problem for McCoy is he has been doing it on his own for a long time.
If we get Brandon Williams at DT to pair with him. I am not sure how you game plan against us if you want to run the ball between the tackles.

  37. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

What gotbucs said. And yes Calais over poe. More versatility.

  38. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

For all you he gets double teamed all the time please pull up and watch the cowboys game. Come back an upload the link of exactly how many times he is doubled in that game. Our biggest stage of the season.

  39. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I mention that game because I want all the gmc apologist to re-watch it. He does something on the cowboys first possession that I find disturbing I rather not say what it was because it was so glaring I you all watch it notice for yourself. Mind you that is not the only game I’ve noticed this particular practice. How anyone can see it and then defend his play is beyond me.

  40. Buc1987 Says:

NOS…you’ve mentioned it before man. Doesn’t he just stop in the middle of the play and just stand there while everyone else is in pursuit?

    Something like that.

  41. Bucsfanman Says:

Dude that D-line during the Cowboys game was an abomination. And I agree, GMC was downright terrible. For me, it was hard to single him out because the Cowboys O-line was “rag-dolling” everybody. Pitiful!
@NOS- That’s a good example, but lets be real, he is the best player on that D-line. We are still better with than without. I am not one to label GMC as “great” sometimes, not even “good”. But how he ranks among the rest of OUR D-line is indisputable. My issue is that he is the one always singled out. People talked about the “beasting” Robert Ayers. Where was that?! I don’t see where he dominated but maybe in a game or two. Where was McDonald or Spence? Noah or Smith, or Gholston? Where was LVD for that matter? Why do these guys get a pass? It don’t make sense to me!

  42. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Ok maybe it was just tmax that said it Dallus. You still be hatin.

  43. DallasBuc Says:

Nice job NosBos. Most of the excuse makers would rather not remember that performance and keep the blindspot firmly in place because calling people a hater for disagreeing is way easier and more fun than acknowledging what is actually on film.
    Yikes, don’t ban me.

  44. Buc1987 Says:

Bucsfanman ….I think draft position, his pay, his play, and his tenure. That’s why he gets singled out.

Notice how I rarely attack. Cause I’m in the same line of thinking as you are. I think he’s better than what they have to put out there. But I also think when he retires he will be easily forgotten about or more like Paul Gruber.

  45. Buc1987 Says:

Wait…isn’t Gruber in the ROH? If so scratch that. McCoy will never be there.

  46. Brandon Says:

    Stpetebucsfan

My father signed up for the Marines and was enlisted as a machine gunner in Vietnam, a position that had roughly a 80-90% mortality rate. He beat the odds and came back alive, for the most part. In 13 months or so he spent sneaking around the jungles a huge part of him was lost. I think it is so easy to dismiss the sacrifices that these people made because there has never been another conflict like this since then. People don’t know what tough is, people don’t know what sacrifice, honor, courage, pride, brotherhood, loss and heartbreak, and real pain is. The NFL is a sport. And like you said, it’s so easy for people to hurl insults behind the safety and anonymity of their keyboards when they don’t know what real toughness is. It’s a freaking sport. If you’re hurt, you’re hurt. People don’t choose to get hurt, they don’t choose to not make the play on every play, they want to succeed even more than the fans do. Do I wish McCoy could be greater than Warren Sapp ever was on the field? Yes, but who is and how often will that player come around? We could do a lot worse at that position.

Thank you for your service, St. Pete.

  47. DB55 Says:

I SAID IT. MCDONALD COULD REPLACE GMC NO PROBLEM!!!

  48. Bucsfanman Says:

@87- Now that, I can agree with. To his draft position and all that, we have to stop thinking that every 1st round draft pick is going to be the next HOFer. He’s certainly not a “bust” and he’s no Warren Sapp. I’m OK with him as long as there’s effort there, for now. I know, I know, there are plays taken off. But even the great #99 admitted to taking plays off. Just saying!

  49. DB55 Says:

The man ain’t got no heart. More worried about superheroes than guarding the goalline. If you like GMC congrats he a great person.

Give me a player with no talent and a huge heart over a player with all the talent in the world and no balls whatsoever.

  50. Bucsfanman Says:

No way DB55! You drinking already?!

  51. SOEbuc Says:

Draft Barnett in the first and sign Poe:

Noah/Jaquizz, Poe, GMC, Barnett/Ayers. Nastiest D line in the league.

  52. Buc1987 Says:

Blake and there you have your culprit. I remembered reading it too, I just forgot who said it. lol Sorry to slight you DB.

  53. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Well Dallas does have 3 probowler offensive lineman. I have a feeling they manhandled there fair share of quality DT’s.

  54. DB55 Says:

When McDonald replaced GMC in the Denver game he had a career game. Something like 9 tackles and three sacks even took the QB out the game with a vicious hit.

Actually 8 tackles 6 solo and 1.5 sacks. GMC ain’t never ever done nothing like that EVER cuz he quits on every play.

  55. Bucsfanman Says:

ONE game DB, that’s ONE game. We should just put HIM into the HOF! McDonald can’t even stay on the field longer than Gerald. And GMC’s the one that’s “injury prone”. Nope! We’re better with than without!

  56. Buc1987 Says:

This concludes another edition of The Great JBF GMC hate debate.

  57. tmaxcon Says:

Pro Bowls Mean NOTHING actually less than NOTHING!!!!!!!! It’s a pathetic popularity contest.

Seven years of GMC leadership and the team has quit on multiple coaches and has disappeared when it matters most.

Yes, I am a proud GMC hater. FOR ONCE I WOULD LIKE ONE OF YOU TO BACK YOUR LOVE UP WITH FACTS!!!!! He is a good player not even great. If he was great instead spewing meaningless GARBAGE about we are lucky to have him, good in the community, nice guy, pro bowls, coaches love him, his peers say he’s good…. Seven years you fools should be able to shut me up with plays not all that is MEANINGLESS BS that does not translate to wins on sunday…. Seven years that loser has been the leader of the team. how man games have they came out unmotivated or unprepared. Sapp or Brooks would have never let that happen. Screw McCoy he is the Undisputed leader of the losing culture and the team will have to overcome his soft arse and disappearing acts if they ever want to win a meaningful game. It’s been 14 or 15 years since the last meaningful win… McCoy does not even start on some teams yet some of you idiots say hall of fame. raise your standards…. Every year same BS he needs help, bad coaching… Winners DO NOT MAKE EXCUSES…. All you mccoy lovers do is make excuses because the bottom line results have sucked under his leadership…

GMC is a good DT that does NOT impact games or make plays when it matters. GMC, Doug Martin, VJAX and the rest of the veteran losers need to go away and let the young guys and champions take over. Go get cook licht add another champion and ditch the veterans losers. They DO NOT KNOW HOW TO WIN THEY HAVE BEEN LOSING ALMOST A DECADE… Bring in champions and get rid of the ice cream man and the rest of the mediocre to garbage hold overs.

  58. DB55 Says:

    Honestly who cares?

Trust there is a reason Kwon had 800 tackles last year. There’s no one in front of him.

Better yet here’s a better replacement for GMC. One of my all-time favorite tweets.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/ericlegrand52/status/512800738154524672

  59. Defense Rules Says:

gotbbucs … Good point that “playoff teams don’t have DT’s on the field for as long as McCoy is on the field.” I suspect there are 2 key reasons for that: (1) Half of last yrs playoff teams used a 3-4 or multiple front defense that requires only 1 DT and allows for a better rotation; and (2) playoff teams tend to have better depth than the Bucs have, and thus can rotate DTs more frequently. Using DEs like Gholston & Ayers inside might show good flexibility on their part, but it’s most likely not the preferred way of doing business (better to have 4 excellent inside DLinemen if using a 4-3?). I’m not in favor of huge contracts for non-QBs either, but the reality in today’s NFL is if we don’t pay them, someone else will. What GMC gets paid is between him & management.

DB55 … Seriously? McDonald could replace GMC? Clinton’s a favorite of mine (great heart for the game), but he’s played 31 games for us in the last 3 yrs (65% availability). GMC’s played 43 games in those same 3 yrs (90% availability). You do the math.

  60. DB55 Says:

    Def Rules

Solution = see your first para above. Man you could sign 3 DTs to replace GMC and still pay half his salary and get double the production.

Admit it guys you’re in love with his smile. It is a beautiful smile I’ll admit.

  61. MarineBucsFan Says:

Thank You StPetebucsfan for your service and paving the way for a Marine like me. I’ve always had a high level of respect for those who served before me, regardless of the branch of service. The recognition that our Armed Forces get today is so awesome. It pains me to see older vets struggle from PTSD or worse drugs because that’s what some turn to in order to ease the pain and memories. We are well taken care of now and that’s due in large to the sacrifice that those like you made. So again Thank You Sir!

  62. Bucsfanman Says:

Okay tmax and DB55, tell me that the defense would have been better during those 7 years without him. He is simply the best D-lineman we have, admit it! Until we find better, you’re just going to have to deal with his charming smile and good sportsmanship. Sorry!

  63. Buc1987 Says:

    DB…lol that’s harsh!

  64. A-Train Says:

    Joe Said:
“Well, would the Bucs be better off with him gone and his salary off the books? Doesn’t seem like his salary is killing the salary cap in any way.

Trust Joe, you don’t want Akeem Spence taking over for GMC”

No I don’t want to take him off the team… HOWEVER when he is not playing up to his potential or plays lazy ( AS HE HAS) then JOE should call him out like you do everyone else on the team .. GMC is the only one who gets a pass on this site..

  65. DB55 Says:

Rodger that. And you have to deal with the losing bc we can’t hold a lead in the fourth qrt, can’t keep anyone from running it down our throats on goal line and jumping offsides on every other 3rd and 4 play.

87 had me excited for a deep PO run this year but I’m like meh same ol same ol. Maybe after the summer I’ll find some inspiration.

  66. DB55 Says:

    I’d rather have Eric LaGrand.

  67. Buc1987 Says:

DB55…Eh lot’s of important stuff on the horizon. Don’t let GMC depress you.

We can just wait for it to all unfold. Perhaps tmax will get his wish and Gerald gets traded in the draft.

Deep PO run huh. If things go the right way, I can still see it. PO’s for sure.

  68. tmaxcon Says:

i can live with the smiles and sportsmanship just can’t live with the mentally weak soft play and weekly disappearing acts…

  69. tmaxcon Says:

i say it again… if he is so good he should be able to make 3 to 5 impact plays a season over seven years that is 21 to 35 plays by now… surely you lovers of mediocrity can come up with 7 plays that have changed games or mattered that’s a measly one impact play a season. you can’t.. the ryan ankle grab was cute but come on shut me up with on field plays… 7 years 7 plays that really mattered…. you can not because he disappears when it matters.

  70. Buc1987 Says:

“weak soft play and weekly disappearing acts…”

tmax…lot’s of talk during the week though.

  71. tmaxcon Says:

gmc is a me first camera hound that is a career LOSER. Results are what matter!!!!

If he was so hurt two years ago why did he play in a meaningless pro bowl that already was using 7 or 8 alternates at the majority of the positions… I’ll tell you because he is a mouth running pathetic self promoter that does nothing but LOSE and disappear when it matters most.

Emergency rooms across this great country now use his pre game speeches to cure Viagra overdoses, hyperactivity in children and sexual offenders can never function again. GMC has done a lot of good for the medical community with his passionate football speeches.

  72. Q Says:

Joe do you actually expect coach shanahan to just come out and say …you know gerald is average …there really is no game plan against him? Of course fatigue is a factor in any player…thats common sense….no player can rise above fatigue and play lights out …ive seen only a couple and gerald mccoy is nothing close to an athlete like michael jordan…my opinion is shanahan just gave you the sarcastic answer to your question….mccoy gets pro bowld because the players love him…the more players that help him up the more respect he gets….pro bowls is what rrwlly get you in the hall of fame…and thats all mccoy cares about…he has no heart to push for his team to win a title…thats not on his list

  73. Bucsfanman Says:

“Emergency rooms across this great country now use his pre game speeches to cure Viagra overdoses,…”

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, you have me rolling on that one!!!!

I can’t argue with you there tmax! His speeches were terrible. I was embarrassed for him! LOL!

  74. Couch Fan Says:

Another off-season and the same tired excuses for ole GMC.

  75. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Tmax, every single sack is an impact play.

Every play of every series matters.

And I say to you again for the umpteenth time, so whatever you want about his personality, but the overwhelming consensus among actual proffessionals in the NFL is that Gerald McCoy is a top tier Defemsive tackle.

  76. Bucsfanman Says:

Another off-season and the same tired unfounded hate for ole GMC.

    Yawn!

  77. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    Brandon….

Glad your father made it back!!! Hope his head wasn’t too messed.

    Marine Buc…..Semper Fi!

True story…when I got back I wore my Army field jacket to class at University of Cincinnati. Some girl gets on the elevator and sees my jacket is the real deal and not Army surplus and chides me for being a “baby burner”. At least that part has improved.

But all of us should be upset that we have commercials on TV begging for money for our Vets! If you ask a man or woman to put his life and his/her mental well being on the line for you…you OWE it to them to take care of them when they get back.

Our vets are NOT charity cases! Or at least shouldn’t be. They’ve EARNED every bit of care they need.

  78. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

    Thanks Joes, proud to serve.

  79. Buc1987 Says:

lol Poor GMC. He actually stuck around Tampa after being drafted. Most first rounders for the Bucs never make it this long for one reason or another.

This poor guy has lasted and he gets blasted all the time. Lot’s of mofo’s used to want to be OUT of Tampa.

  80. DB55 Says:

    87

That’s bc they wanted to win.

  81. Buc1987 Says:

    Ha!

  82. Poor Glennon Says:

There are 2 types of Buc fans………the Winston haters and the GMC haters. Nobody hates both or likes both.

  83. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Nope. I love Jameis Winston. And while I’m not the biggest fan of Gmc’s nice guy demeanor, I recognize that he is a really good player, as well as a great guy. I appreciate Gerald McCoy, and recognize the absolute fact that we are far better with him than we would be without him.

  84. tmaxcon Says:

    Blake_Bucsfan

not once have i mentioned his personality I could careless about his personality. he does not know how to win. he is a loser.

  85. SOEbuc Says:

When GMC is healthy he balls. It’s understandable being banged up a lot when he’s been getting double teamed his entire career.

  86. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

I’ve always thought we were better with GMac than without but tmax makes a great point about the game changing plays. In 7 years I can’t think of any. Fameis has played 2 years and got more. Sure he’s on offense but seeing the field as much as Gmac does he should have much more. Warren Sapp was great because he wanted to be great and he had passion and played with anger. His sole purpose was to embarass and humiliate any lineman trying to stop him, qualities GMac simply doesn’t have. He has no beast mode so to speak. How hard is it to be the best lineman when everyone else around him is lackluster?

  87. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Oh yeah? Because I specifically recall you saying that he is the leader of the losing culture that smiles too much and only goes to probowls to for vanity.

“Gmc is a me first camera hound.” direct quote from earlier today.

And im 100 percent positive that I wouldn’t need to doig through the archives very far to hear you insult him for being too nice or moan about him helping up opposing players.

You are just so blind from you’re hatred towards him that you can’t even remember what you say on a day to day basis.

  88. Walktheplank Says:

GMC would destroy anyone on this forum! It’s a team game and we have had a losing team till now, GMC is a stud and will continue to do well as long as his teammates are able to continue to improve.

  89. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Man with that picture of him might have have to call him Gerald Mc Erkel! DID I DO THAAAT? No Gerald you didn’t. The qb threw the ball before you got to him, the running back ran right by you.

  90. Bobby Says:

If GMC is so bad then post the stats of 4 DT’s that are better. Go ahead…find them. Good luck.

  91. DB55 Says:

    Bobby

Here’s ten. Let me know if you don’t like this and I’ll post another.

  92. tmaxcon Says:

    Blake_Bucsfan

I am not blind in hatred. I could careless about him. My problem is that his mentally weak and soft approach has cost more games than his average play as won yet those oh you who embrace mediocrity cheer for his sorry arse. He’s just another overrated player passing through town. I love the bucs and could careless about anything but WINS…. Players come and go in ten years gmc will be just another bum who left town without a championship. GMC IS A CAREER LOSER WHO CAN NOT AND WILL NOT DO WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN EVERY SUNDAY. He is the undisputed leader of the losing culture.

He acted like a child when jameis started leading cheers. wandering off like a little damn girl. he misses games every year not because of the phantom triple teams the nuthuggers cry about he misses the games because he is soft.

Bucs will never win anything that matters with a loser like mccoy leading the defense.

  93. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Kwon is the leader of the Defense. And i just don’t understand your salt towards Gmc for being the best player on really bad teams.

And DB55 you know that list proves nothing because half those guys are DE’s and there are dudes on that list that had like 2 and a half sacks and 12 tackles. That list doesnt even take into account whether the Qb started the play in the shotgun or took a 3 step drop or a 7 step drop. Its just bs all around and proves nada.

  94. gotbbucs Says:

McCoy had one good game last year, it was the 1st game of the year. After that it was all down hill.

For the life of me, I have no idea what these people are watching that makes them say that he is a stud. No idea.
The double team excuse is laughable at best, all of the best DT’s and DE’s through the entire history of the NFL have had to deal with double teams and chip blocks. I have seen McCoy get stonewalled on single man blocking countless times because he didn’t guess the snap count correctly. He does not have good pass rush moves when he doesn’t get a jump on the count. He doesn’t have a pre-snap plan for what he will counter with if his first move doesn’t work. When he does get a good jump on the count it is typically on a running play and the offensive line can purposely let him come flying through because they know he will get too deep and create a nice crease to run through.
The book has been out on McCoy for a long time, every team knows how to manipulate his game to their advantage.

I still cannot get over how people think he is a stud, and some are actually crazy enough to think he’s a hall of famer. He has never helped his team win sh!t and has never had ONE double digit sack season. How the hell is he a HOFer? I still struggle to believe that he’s been voted All-Pro. Just goes to show you how little the national media actually watches of Bucs games.

  95. gotbbucs Says:

    Blake Bucsfan,
Show us your evidence of him actually being good, those of us that aren’t GMC fans have been asking for a long time to be proven wrong.

DB 55’s list, regardless of where the QB was when he launched, proves that GMC doesn’t get pressure on the QB. I would be very interested in knowING where in fact he did end up ranking on that list. McCoy is being paid as a top 10 defensive lineman overall in the entire NFL, DT and DE included. My guess would be that if there was a true measure of effectiveness, he would rank somewhere in the middle of the league.
Coaches and fellow players aren’t going to bash him on record because he’s a nice guy and a loveable loser. If he were a jerk, there would be guys that would probably say exactly how they feel about his play.

  96. SOEbuc Says:

    @gotbbucs

“McCoy had one good game last year, it was the 1st game of the year. After that it was all down hill.”

I would’ve said Seattle but whatever.

  97. shouldhavedraftedefiert Says:

It’s the Sapp comparison that is driving these GMC haters mostly. We want Sapp 2.0 but there will never be a another Sapp. GMC damn good DT, NO DOUBT!
