“Vincent Jackson Is Not Retiring”

March 3rd, 2017

Dirk Koetter and others are weighing in on Vincent Jackson

Joe heard Dirk Koetter this week on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

That’s why Joe hasn’t chirped about how Vincent Jackson is riding off into the retirement sunset.

But it’s not just Koetter talking about Jackson and free-market forces. This afternoon, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan, a former Eagles employee, Twittered that he’s learned “Vincent Jackson is not retiring.”

Here’s what Koetter said Wednesday on radio:

“Well, we’ve met with Vince. And Vince, what a great pro,” Koetter said. “There are stats out there of how many guys sign that big free agent deal and don’t play out the contract. Vincent did play out his contract. He’s earned the right, like any other restricted free agent, to test the market and to see what’s out there. You know, we’ve had meetings, we had a meeting with Vince. We’re always going to think about Vince as a Buc. But right now, it’s just got to go through the process.”

It sounded then like the Bucs and V-Jax had a respectful conversation and the Bucs explained they’d be interested in him returning at the veteran minimum salary — and Jackson respectfully said he’d go shopping when the free agency dinner bell rings.

Can’t blame either party. But it certainly doesn’t smell like Jackson is ready to mail it in.

Is it just Joe, but doesn’t V-Jax seem perfect for the Patriots? Bill Belicheat had no problem dropping a contract on 37 year old Joey Galloway, who proceeded to get hurt and then cut in October.

What ever happens, happens. The respect for VJ I have is real..wish him well wherever he goes..

  2. Bird Says:

    He wants a ring

  3. BucTrooper Says:

I agree with Joe. He will pull a Seau and go to the Pats.

  4. tdtb2015 Says:

I think he will stay 2 more years and get the ring here. This is his home. He knows where we are heading.

Like Glennon, he is testing the market to settle home with the best deal possible.

  5. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I think he is gone from Tampa for good, because no way we match the crazy money he may get somewhere else.

Are you sure it wasn’t Jason Licht’s fault?

I could see the Pats going after Marshall before V-Jax, but either would make sense for them.

V-Jax is one of the best free agent signing this team has had. Obviously he wasn’t himself last year, but 3 seasons of 1,000+ yards in a row! On terrible teams!

It’s a shame this club wasn’t more competitive during his tenure.

I’d love to bring him back here, but those first couple games this year really made me question his energy and desire.

  9. Couch Fan Says:

The Buc fan in me wants to see V-jax retire a Buc.

  10. nwbucs Says:

    i think he’ll be back.

  11. Kevinthepainterimagine Says:

Nobody is going to give him fat cash. I would love to have him as a situational player on a cheap deal. Give him a couple mil a year for third downs and goal line work. Keep him fresh. Thats if he wants to be here. If he has lost his fire than dont bother

  12. JonBuc Says:

Great player on some lousy Buc teams…not sure I liked how he basically gave up last season and more or less collected a severance. A healthy one at that. I’d say it’s 50/50 he goes to the Patriots with Denver as a darkhorse destination.

  13. James Walker Says:

Sounds like he wants a ring. I would not mind seeing him compete. Perhaps if he plays 2nd rep snaps he stays healthy and is a serious weapon.

  14. feelthepewterpower Says:

Galloway still had a little speed left…VJax can’t get any separation anymore with his knees, sadly. As much as I loved VJax, it is time to move-on.

  15. Stpetebucsfan Says:

I wish VJAX would retire and spare us having to watch him fade out…but then we had to watch Johnny Unitas…Joe Namath and a gazillion other NFL stars who simply could not walk away even when it was clearly time.

But it’s VJAX’s call and he’s been a class act here in Tampa and so I wish him the best.

Wouldn’t give Randy Moss a new deal but about to give Vjax one??? I doubt that.

  17. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I really think that the bad body language VJax had in the first ATL game was from his realization that he just doesn’t have it anymore and didn’t know how to deal with it.

  18. DallasBuc Says:

87- don’t be so hard on Licht. He is only responsible for his own humiliating failures, silly goose!

  19. Sunny Says:

I wondered if he started the season injured , he was “injured ” in practice not in a game this year , would explain why he started slow this year.

On the cheap , Would love him back in 3 down and goal line role like Ike Hilliard years ago.

  20. Pick6 Says:

Go be a mercenary and get that ring, Vince. No longer a great fit for our young ascending team, but would be a great addition for New England, KC, even Indy. Here we need to put together a group that can play together for 4 or 5 years
