Recruiting Jameis

February 21st, 2017

Luring Redskins WR.

Readers of JoeBucsFan.com have likely read Joe use the phrase, “What Jameis wants, Jameis gets.”

He wields that much muscle at One Buc Palace. That’s why he’s “The Franchise.”

Well, it seems Jameis is putting his charisma and charm to the test.

Per reliable Josina Anderson of ESPN, it seems America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is trying to work his magic on free agent wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

@JosinaAnderson: I’m told #Bucs could be a posb destination for impending FA WR Desean Jackson. Understanding is Jameis Winston has an existing rapport w/ DJ

Joe knows Anderson has outstanding contacts in the NFL, so this isn’t just something thrown up against the wall.

Joe figured playing for Jameis would be a lure for a free agent wide receiver, and Joe also suspected Jameis would be on the recruiting trail. This all but confirms it.

Now, the question is, will Jameis be able to coerce Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to pull the trigger?

    Click, Click, Pull!!

  2. LifeOfABucFan Says:

I read that on Twitter and I did a hell of a happy dance!! Get him Jason!! Just get him!!

  3. Buc1987 Says:

    Once again.

This is not Licht’s, Koetter’s, Glazer’s, your team or mine.

This is Jameis Winston’s team. Jameis will get what Jameis wants.

  4. NCbucfan Says:

Mike evan…with a healthy DJ on the other side. Plus drafting a good rb sounds too good to be true. I bet koetter is drooling at the idea.

  5. LifeOfABucFan Says:

NCBuc..I just drolled a bit too..have to go get a paper towel now..lol..

  6. LifeOfABucFan Says:

    *drooled..maybe drolled too..I don’t know..lol..

  7. Dewey Selmon Says:

Jameis wanted R. Greene who went to the Jags, Winston does not call the shots. that would be dangerous.

  8. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    DO IT!

  9. Kevinthepainter Says:

Well we all know joe needs a towel right abiut now

  10. Bucsfanman Says:

    Yes and please!

  11. Buc1987 Says:

Dewey….after one season. No he certainly didn’t call the shots.

If the Bucs DO trade up and draft Dalvin. You better believe JW had a say.

They weren’t going to draft a WR so early after drafting Evans. I don’t think he pulled that much weight back then for him to want Greene on the team anyways.

Where was it said that he wanted the Bucs to draft Greene?

  12. The Buc Realist Says:

If you hear rumors about a “possible destination” for a player….. it usually means that the players agent is using said team to leverage a higher price tag for another team!!!!!

Its better when our team is not mentioned!!!!!!

Be careful Buc Fans,,,,, Tis Smoke Screen Season!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Birdman Says:

If you’re a defense are you rolling your safety to Mike Evans or Desean Jackson? If you answered anything but both you just got burned deep.
Djax led the league in yards per catch last season and played outside and slot too. What a weapon he could be..

  14. Bucsfanman Says:

    He’s an instant difference-maker Birdman!

  15. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

The only reason I never say I want D Jax is because his preference to go back to Philly. This is OK I guess… Lol sign him and then Woods or Stills or Pryor and THAT would be a sick line up.
Nos Bos then and only THEN would I move up for ya boy… Sup big homie… On second thought. I wouldn’t. DE in the first!!!! Cook would add another level of asswhoopingness… But I prefer Mixon. sorry, not sorry. Mixon in the fourth
    1 DE
    2 BPA
    3 BPA
    4 Mixon
    So on an so on

  16. Nick Says:

He would be perfect compliment to Evans. Mike is truly an uber-possesion guy (see: 1st downs but lack of YAC). Mike could lead league in catches if defenses have to respect DJax.

  17. Joeypoppems Says:

The ONLY reason I would take Pierre Garcon over Desean Jackson is because I am of the belief that adding 2 WRs is the way to go. And by adding 2 I mean sign a FA and draft one. To me there are more WRs that do what Desean Jackson does in terms of being that speed threat to stretch the field than there are WRs that are similar to Garcon in terms of route running.

With that said I understand speed is the main goal of the offseason for offense and it makes sense to get the sure thing in D-Jax. Id be happy with either ‘Skins WR.

  18. LakeLandBuc Says:

So that’s why we didn’t sign or draft any WRs last season. Jameis didn’t want any new WRs, he wanted to stick with the injury prone WRs. This is about what Jameis want…right?

  19. macabee Says:

The Buc Realist is right! Be careful what you read. I just read a story 6 minutes ago where DeSean Jackson said it would be a great story if he returned to the Eagles. Just sayin’.

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18733634/desean-jackson-philadelphia-eagles-return-great-story

  20. Tampa Tony Says:

I don’t think his play on the field has warranted the franchise label as it gets thrown around to eagerly by desperate fans but if he could recruit players here that would add to his leadership skills and improve this team big time

  21. Alstott up the gut Says:

As time goes on, the more and more I think it would be great for the Bucs to get DJax. He is the exact compliment to Evans we need. Work that magic Famous Jameis.

  22. martinii Says:

Love to have Djax, glad to hear Jameis is working his magic and really glad to hear Jameis gets what he wants. I have long been an advocate that a Franchise QB should be able to play a part in the recruitment process. That being said, outside the Bay Area no one is talking Djax to Tampa. Washington and his dream team Eagles are the only destinations he openly shows love for. Unfortunately The Buc’s are not on his short list. Smoke screen ? I’ll repeat what has been suggested above, “be careful what you read.”

  23. R.O. Says:

Not at $10M/yr for 2 yrs. No way….

  24. mixxx31 Says:

I did a little more than drool. Anybody got a tidy wipe?

  25. NJBucsFan Says:

I also just read that DJax publically praised Wentz and would like the story of finishing his career where he started. Oh…and he also stated he has a good 4-6 years left.

Hopefully he’s not seeking a 4-6 year contract

  26. Jim Says:

Did Jameis have a role in drafting fellow FSU kicker Roberto? What do you think?

  27. feelthepewterpower Says:

Get Britt, get DJax (he usually misses a few games per year due to injury….let Hump back him up) and we will be loaded at receiver.

  28. bucs_365 Says:

Let’s just let Jameis be the QB and not the assistant GM.

  29. grafikdetail Says:

Hump is not a #2 WR!!! he’s barely a slot LOL

  30. bucstradamus Says:

It won’t take pressure from Jameis Winston to make it happen. DeSaun Jackson is already the Bucs’ #1 WR target. In fact, he’s the top target overall. The issue will be price, which will exceed $10M/year.

  31. Rrsrq Says:

And still draft OJ Howard if he is there

  32. Mojiska Says:

Get him and draft any of Corey davis, zay jones, juju smith-shuster. Let the rook be outside #2 and jax work slot in 3 wr sets, jax and evans in 2 wr sets.

  33. pick6 Says:

all 15 of the biggest names in Free Agency will be linked to the Bucs at some point by their agent. What better leverage than affiliating your client with a cap-rich, talent-hungry team whether they are actually a likely landing spot or not?

i think we will make some key upgrades before the draft, but this offseason will still feel like a giant tease for fans because of the sheer volume of names the bucs get linked with vs the number of guys who actually end up joining the team

  34. StPeteBucsfan Says:

    Tony

I don’t think his play on the field has warranted the franchise label

Would you be more comfortable with NFL record setting QB…as in the
The first NFL QB to EVER throw for over 4,000 yards his first two years in the league?

I dont get your problem Tony. #3 is clearly a FRANCHISE QB by definition!!!

You may consider him unworthy…are you a hacked MM supporter? But a “franchise” QB is somebody the franchise builds their team around. Is there ANY doubt the Bucs are doing that.

Sometimes we as fans do not agree with the team’s decision…I was NEVER a JFRO guy….cannon for an arm…big guy who could run….horrible accuracy…makes #3 look like Brady in comparison…but he WAS a franchise QB by defintion.

You need to get over it. #3 is clearly a franchise QB..not because the majority of fans think it…but because Bucs management believes it and is clearly operating under that belief.

Setting NFL RECORDS as a KID in his eary 20’s does not please you…working without a running game…NO Right tackle at all…and only one NFL WR and a decent TE..yet he sets records. Some of you guys are beyond just a tough crowd!!!

  35. 98bucsfan Says:

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we got DJ and Garçon?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we got DJ and Garçon?

    No, it would be stupid.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Rachel Watson was standing naked in front of me?

About equal chance of happening though.

  37. Joeypoppems Says:

    ^^^^^^

Can’t argue any logic involving Rachel Watson lmao

  38. Fred E. Buc Says:

Well, after all, he had the nicest things to say about his former team mate and Noles kicker…

But yes, if there is a WR FA out there Jaemeis likes, it’s worth looking into…not blindly of course….

  39. captjimbo Says:

I think we should fire JL and DK and just let JW run the show. Some people just don’t get it!

  40. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

What better way to drive up the price than to make a public statement saying you are interested in going back to Philly. When team’s are contacting your agent showing interest in your services. Genius. The mula will always talk the loudest at the end of the day.

  41. Tampa Tony Says:

@St Pete- Not a MM supporter, I find it hilarious that my fellow fans are so sensitive/defensive of Jameis that they automatically jump to that conclusion instead of examine Jameis’s flaws and try to think why a season ticket holder who flies down from NYC 6-7 times a year would not be 100% sold on our QB just yet.

It’s not about any other QB that wasn’t drafted it’s about Jameis. I like him I don’t get caught up in the stats because, like Bill B in New England says “Stats are for losers” I think the term “Franchise QB” gets thrown around too loosely by fans and media. Stats can be skewed a certain way to fit a narrative. Especially when our QB turns it over as much as Jameis, that leads to extra possessions and free points by the opponents which takes the Bucs offense out of a balanced attack.

To me a franchise QB is a player that you can see playing for your team for 10-12 years at minimum, that will give his team a chance to win every week, is clutch, makes those around him better and continually improves from year to year. Every QB drafted in the 1st round gets this label now without proving anything when realistically there are only maybe 10 or so true franchise QB’s in the league.

Jameis has potential but until he learns to protect the ball and be more accurate he’s just a inconsistent QB who will tease us like he has the last two Decembers before reality sets in.

  42. TeddyTB Says:

Hopefully teams are stingy and we can get him for a reasonable contract but I wouldn’t break the bank for him.

  43. SOEbuc Says:

    @Mojiska

You said exactly what I was thinking. 1. Evans, 2. C.Davis, 3. DJax (in slot and 2 spot). Talk about drooling. I just put my bathing suit on.

  44. Joeypoppems Says:

According to spotrac his market value is $7.6 million per year. We can afford to overpay him a little bit to make sure we get him. 3 years $25 million is a reasonable contract ($8.3 million per year).

Garcon would be slightly more expensive, but imo a receiving core of Mike Evans, Garcon, and 1 of the speedsters in the draft could be a dangerous trio.

  45. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

    Deshean in the slot???

  46. d-roca Says:

My guess is Jameis talks to Licht about this stuff before he goes to the player. He’s a smart young man. Id love the signing, then can go a different route in first 2 rounds of draft. Still need a second receiver i feel tho. Go jameis, go bucs

  47. chipbuc Says:

Tampa Tony put a sock in it. You are the agitating troll that fond his niche trolling everybody about how Jameis isn’t a franchise QB. I don’t care if he threw for 40 TDs and won 12 games and made the playoffs, you’d say he’s still to inconsistent for you to consider him a franchise QB. Stop it, it’s not that we don’t like you to point out his flaws, it’s just that you never ever say anything positive about him it’s always negative. During a game Jameis throws 2 TDs nothing from you, soon as he throws a pick your saying something negative. We are not stupid Jameis has his flaws, but his pluses far out weigh his negatives. PS. was agitating troll too strong?
