Doug Martin = Inactive

Benched

Benched

[UPDATE: 4:23 p.m]

Yes, folks, Doug Martin has been deactivated by the coaching staff for today’s game.

He joins Ryan Griffin, WR Bernard Reedy, DT John Hughes, and injured Demar Dotson, Gosder Cherilus and Will Gholston.

Yes, Martin was practicing this week.

Yes, Joe has written endlessly about Martin’s stunning lack of production this year, despite Joe being beaten relentlessly by all kinds of fans in the past week claiming Joe is a moron. Martin has been running hard but the Pro Bowler of the past simply isn’t there. His pass blocking was excellent but fell off the past two games.

Joe assumes Jacquizz Rodgers will be the lead dog toting the rock.

UPDATE: Everything Joe has heard in New Orleans from various sources is Martin was deactivated due to “coach’s decision.” Interpret that how you wish.

I never thought i would see the day. Doug Martin a healthy scratch. I respect the heck out of Dirk Koetter.

  2. "Ice Man" Bob Gilbert Says:

Very interested to hear the reason for the benching. I’m not too upset about it since i think Quizz is a good replacement, but i would like to hear the logic.

  3. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Out of all the differences between Dirk and Lovie, Of which there are many, the biggest has to be Dirk’s ability and willingness to identify a problem and to try and produce a solution.

Lovies answer woulda been “we just need some mo time.”

Somebody on here called this last night…. Props. Not sure what the future holds but obviously the film showed multiple missed opportunities on Martins behalf. I’m a big fan of Dougie and thought last season was one of the toughest performances I’d ever seen from a RB. We’ll see, but the saints should have a little more guess work today.

take off your fanboy blinders. DEACTIVATED Dougie has never been a consistent reliable back. He has a few good games and ran well when he trying to get paid. there is no way in hell you can say with a straight face martin has been great, healthy or consistent.

    How about this stat

    Blount 16 TDs and Counting

You boy unreliable doug has 23 td’s for his careers. he has never been great.. raise your standards fan boys… He is officially Deactivated Dougie the Dancing Gerbil!!!! Next!

    BOUT DAMN TIME!!!!!!

  7. Bucnut2 Says:

I agree with this move. Doug has been, for the most part, bad!

  8. Fred E. Buc Says:

My expectation is Martin came down with that 24 hour bug maybe. That’s why he’d not be on injury list but scratched now…still called a healthy scratch I think. If they decided not to dress a RB, we’d think it would be Barber. Couldn’t believe that sat Rodgers last week. Hope there is no dust up in the locker room.

@Tmax Did you even read my full comment? I said i respected dirk for making the move. While I don’t think that our teams run blocking has been nearly as good as it was last year, I’ve noticed a change in Doug as well. He’s not using his vision like he was last year, he’s kinda reverted into the whole just put your head down and run into the backs of his line man.
I made a comment a few days ago remarking that I could count on one hand the amount of times Doug has bounced a run outside when he had the opportunity. Doug hasn’t been getting it done. Like I said i respect Dirk for making the move.

Try and work on your reading comprehension Tmax dude

  12. D-Rome Says:

Wow, Doug Martin a healthy scratch! I never thought I’d see the day.

  13. Aubpierce Says:

I see 50 plus passes today. We will see if Winston is a franchise qb, or just a right handed Tim Tebow.

  14. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    @Aub lol?

  16. HomeinDallasHeartinTampa Says:

    @Fred E.
Besides lack of production, Dirk went with Barber over Martin due to special teams, similar to Quizz being inactive last week. “Numbers game”

  17. Waterboy Says:

A guy on here called it yesterday, it looks like he was right.

  18. Change is here Says:

    Stupid dirk.

The o line has been abysmal that’s the problem.

Quizz will not do any better with that back up o line

    Except Marpet they’re all backups.

  19. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Joes, I guess that poster who wrote about this the other day was right after all.

  20. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Maybe Koetter posts on here anonymously?! Lol

  21. TheBucsAnthem Says:

The run game will be much better now that Martin is out

  22. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Guys lets wait and see why he is inactive today before you blame Koetter. I find it hard to believe that he would make him inactive if he is healthy. There was a bug running through the team. I mean why would he at least have him dressed if healthy.

  23. EA Says:

If Martin is inactive because of production or lack thereof i like it, have to send a message to the team, it is a Belichick like move.

  24. Doctor Stroud Says:

@BuccaneEric75: I think that you might be right! Coach Koetter has to be Kobe Faker.

  25. Doctor Stroud Says:

Just saw a bunch of Bucs “fans” lamenting how sitting Doug Martin wrecked their fantasy football teams. They are clearly suffering from proprioception.

  26. Kevin bayne Says:

I see some people asking the ? Why is he being benched. He is being benched because he has been playing piss poor. His pass blocking is usually good but as of the last 2 or 3 games he has been invisible back there. I think Rodgers is a good running back and will do just fine. Should be a good game

Joe just heard that Doug Martin is inactive tomorrow. Healthy inactive? Have you heard anything Joe??
Sounds like you’re making stuff up? –Joe

Sounds like Joe needs to tighten up on his reporting on time.

  28. Bucco Billy Says:

Hey Joe didn’t you say I was “making stuff up” yesterday? May you shouldn’t doubt people that have more info then you think.

  29. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    Bucco Billy, wow!

  30. LongSeason Says:

Well. The Muscle Hamster is really the Feckless Gerbil. Of course the offense as a whole has sucked the last few games. The offensive line is just plain not getting it done. Without an offensive line, you have nothing no matter who your QB is. Team needs more heart too.

  31. Capt.Tim Says:

    As Ive said for years.
Doug Martin only plays hard, when its contract time.
He signed the big contract, and has no intention of playing hard again,
    Until its contract time again

He played hard hard his first year.
Layed down years 2 and 3
    Played hard contract year
    Laying down this year
