Mike Smith: Homegrown Film Is An Asset

Yes, the Bucs defense was bashed and battered by opposing offenses, knowledgable analysts and fans for lacking effort during the first half of the season.

Don’t believe Joe? Then heed the words of Derrick Brooks.

But the effort issue has changed radically through the past five games. The defense has gone from Boy Scouts to rabid dogs.

Defensive coordinator Mike Smith acknowledged that transformation today at One Buc Palace and Smith explained a nuance Joe finds important.

Early in the regular season, plus during training camp, Smith could only show his players film of his past defenses doing things right. The Bucs couldn’t learn much from comparing and contrasting their own play.

A body of work was built — and then learned from.

“Our guys have really seen the results,” Smith said. “We can back it up and show these guys. You know, we don’t have to show somebody else doing it. We can show our team doing it and them doing it. And they really have done a good job over the last five or six weeks in attacking the football and running to the football and taking great pursuit angles. It’s not just runnin’ happenstance that you’re going to get these interceptions. It’s about taking good, proper pursuit angles and making sure that if we don’t make the tackle, we can get the ball turned back in to the guys that are coming.”

What a beast of a coordinator Smith is. His unit is peaking at just the right time. And he didn’t need that three-year, Lovie Smith learning curve.

It will be a sad day if Smith gets a head coach gig in 2017.

fans for lacking effort during the first half of the season.
What if we mixed Red Bull with yellow Gatorade? If the Bucs come out flat it’s gonna be a long long night.

  2. unbelievable Says:

I don’t think they come out flat for this one. Big lights, prime time, big implications, guys have been fired up.

  5. Kobe Faker Says:

    because of 5 game stretch?

we are not even in the playoffs

jacksonville fanbase will revolt if they hire Mike Smith

the jacsonville owner is patient and will have a long search AFTER THE SEASON

    LOL! 5 games! lol!

Smith isnt going anywhere until we win 1 playoff game…then maybe he might be on the owners radar

yes, i do agree sundays game is an “interview” game for Mike Smith to the owners if the defense wins the game, but we still have to go to the playoffs

*dont forget the owners have to sell the new HC to the paying fanbase

  6. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Kobe they killin me wit this dallas o line mess. When you can show me Erik Williams,Larry Allen , Nate Newton,Stepnoski and co. then I’ll worry myself wit dallas o line. Until then stop it. Again we handled them last season and about to do again on Sunday.

  8. Lord Cornelius Says:

Kobe – coaches with way worse resume’s than Smith get hired all the time.

Nothing laughable about a 5 game win streak either; considering the longest win streak in the history of this team is 6. Your jack4ss comments don’t change that.

Smith averaged 11 wins for 5 years in Atlanta. There’s only a couple active head coaches with that kind of success record. Even if you include the 2 rebuilding down years in atlanta, he averaged 9.4 wins a season as an NFL head coach.

He had already been considered for other HC jobs since he left. Add what he’s done here and you’d be dumb not to want this guy –

“The Bucs suddenly have become the best defense in football. Since Week 8, the Bucs have allowed an average of just 12.8 points per game. That’s 16.2 points better than in the first half, on pace to be the biggest improvement since the 16-game era began in 1978.”

keep lol’iong and being an a4shole tho – maybe it’s good luck

Consider the source. I don’t particularly care for that guy or the site. He was a huge opponent to drafting Winston and kept pushing that stupid fake-u-mentary on everyone. And even in the article it says “though he doesn’t know if he’ll be offered the job or if he’d take it or I’m an idiot trying to get clicks.”

The guy gets off on being overly critical and stirring the pot when it doesn’t need to be stirred. Luckily no one visits that site and come here instead. JoeBucsFan is the source for ALL of my Bucs news since I first came here in 2010.

Nole, agreed they are not HOF good

still think our Offense/koetters playcalling will win or lose the game

is it me but we will see a different change in jameis leading to his biggest game/stage of his early career? seems his press yesterday was very serious and focused

has a little burden been removed from the lawsuit finally finished? its going to be interesting how jameis looks outwardly as the game comes closer

**close your eyes and picture a black Maximus in the colosseum (jerry world)

    Lorn Corn

I agree, Mike Smith record as HC is absolutely amazing

his 3 year stretch , he has the most wins in the history of the nfl

Mike Smith is an example of reverse discrimination

if mike smith was black, with his record, the black sports community would have demanded him being a HC by now

  12. GhostofSchiano Says:

I am picturing a black Maximus slapping kobe faker around like a lil Beyachtch!!!

From Kobe Fakers mouth to Al sharptons ear…….

  14. The Buc Realist Says:

    kobe liar aka kobe oathbreaker

If the offense looks better it will be because the new guys in the offense will have been in 1 week more, which means more playbook and more options for audible as the new WR’s know more of the offense!!!

But keep thinking your conclusion, because that makes you a liar and wrong!!!!

    Go BUCS!!!!!!!!

  15. Dave Says:

Nole on sat – buc on sun

You haven’t been watching the run blocking for the cowboys then. They are massive and mobile. Zeke Eliot is good, but they could have drafted a RB in round 4 and have him amongst the league leaders.

Bucs have to sell out against the run. Dak’s arm can’t beat them

  16. Kobe Faker Says:

From Movie reviews (Gladiator) to racial discrimination(Al Sharpton)…

Joebusfan blog is the CNN of sports blogs

  17. The Buc Realist Says:

If “Joebusfan blog is the CNN of sports blogs”, then Kobe liar is a prank call that somehow got thru a call screener that just was not funny and told lies!!!!

  18. unbelievable Says:

    Forget about Kobe welcher.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo has some homegrown film that is downright nasty….Pablo used to take homegrown film of Pablo’s many many Chicas/Putas….some of which had hairy pits and mustaches….Pablo didn’t see an Adam’s apple on them before Pablo took them home….In Pablo’ early days, Pablo wasn’t picky after a night of cheap Tequilla and Acupulco Gold.”

  20. Buc1987 Says:

    Kobe….why are you still here?

Realist…why are you not talking about Mike Smith?

I thought you were the president of the mike Smith fan club…

Oh well…if anyone did not see this yet. lol Watch it.

Sorry Joe the Message Boards are gone, but I knew you yourselves would appreciate the video during your busy schedule.

  23. The Buc Realist Says:

Back when I was telling everyone the truth!!!! But now it is plan for all to see in Buc land the Coach Smitty is the real deal!!! Some might even say he is the “MVP” of the season!!!! But now we need to keep it quiet, in hopes that he stays the offseason and just falls in love with the Tampa Area!!!! Now is not the time to promote common knowledge!!!!!

By the way, I watched the video, Then I watched the commie Kaepernick video that was linked in the end!!! It was pretty funny!!!!!

    Go America!!!!!

Go apb to finally find bighogheinous!!!!!

    And GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Buc since “74

The problem is that kobe liar is just not that bright!!! If he just would find some other dim wit’s to hang and talk with, he would feel more accepted!!! They could discuss topic’s that he is knowledgeable on, like which is better toast or eggo’s in the morning, then he would feel validated and accepted in life!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Buc since '74 Says:

You guys are awesome! Kobe – enjoy your egos.

Somebody posted back in the day that Gene Deckerhoff sucked. I told that person to get ready to get blasted, and you guys blasted the dude!

What do you want? Anything good for you. Probably not. Just waiting so you can say I told you so? Great fan

  27. Buc1987 Says:

BoJim…Kobe has stated many times now that he’s not a Bucs fan.

    He’s a Jameis fan.

Which is why he needs to go away.
