Brate’s Season Over; On IR

December 27th, 2016
Won't play Sunday.

Won’t play Sunday.

Cam Brate’s season is over.

The NFL’s top scoring tight end suffered a back injury against the Saints and couldn’t finish the game. It appears he can’t finish the season either. The Bucs placed him on the injured reserve list today.

Brate, Harvard man, led the league in touchdown catches for a tight end with eight and finished the season with 57 catches for 660 yards.

Brate was one touchdown shy of setting a Bucs franchise record for touchdowns by a tight end in a season. The pride of Naperville, Ill., is currently tied with Jimmie Giles for most TDs in a season for a tight end in Bucs history.

His 2016 season was the best by a Bucs tight end since then-rookie Tim Wright had 54 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns in 2013.

  2. tmaxcon Says:

  3. softastissueMcCoy93 Says:

Good year for Brate. Add a little muscle and he can become an everydown TE.

  4. orlbucfan Says:

For an unknown young player out of Harvard, Brate has turned into a gem. Get well CB and help us make the playoffs next season. It will be out time. Go Bucs!!

  5. orlbucfan Says:

    our not out.

  6. Jeagan1999 Says:

Get well soon! One of the young players I’m truly excited about.

  7. Stpetebucsfan Says:

The surprises are the most fun…Brate…Kwon blowing up from the 4th round…Quizz…Marpet…this team is loaded with feel good stories of guys making it who had been counted out.

  8. TampaTown Says:

So sad to hear this. I was really rooting for Cam to break the Tight End TD record! Take care of yourself and get well soon. You are going to tear up the league next year.

  9. Gilhealy Says:

That’s a big, big loss. Jameis’ Witten. Get better, Cam.

  10. Kobe Faker Says:

After Brate went out at the saints game, I threw my bubbleback tv across my moms basement when koetter kept on calling pass plays to meyers and stocker

must win game vs the saints and koetter kept on throwing to our playmaker meyers

im thinking 10 targets for Brandon kelce meyers

We need a new playcaller 2017

  11. DB55 Says:

Overachiever! Cuz he’s a Harvard man! You go with your bad self.

  12. Gilhealy Says:

Kobe, how ’bout Cross? Big enough? Myers didn’t look very nimble. Maybe a few more screens. I’d love that.

  13. Make America Brate Again Says:

Folks, we are going to Make America Brate Again. We are living in a terrible time. There’s crime and poverty at every street corner. We are going to Make America Brate Again!

  14. Lord Cornelius Says:

“must win game vs the saints and koetter kept on throwing to our playmaker meyers”

Who the f*ck was he supposed to throw it to? There were no weapons besides ME for the passing game. ME got 8 targets. Maybe a couple more his way but he was getting all the attention and we already had 1 pick forcing it to him.

Let me guess we should have called 10 screen plays for Charles Sims? I’m sure that game plan would work long term.

Simple fact is we ran out of horses a while ago. Russel Shepard is not the elite #2 WR you think he is.

Our run game sucked all year – whether it was running backs hurt – or just general lack of production.
Offensive line bottom 3 in run blocking; and maybe average at best in pass pro.
We only had 1 legit skill weapon that teams have to worry about in ME.

Add that all up and you’d think we had a bottom 5 offense.

We’re 17th in yards, and 18th in scoring. We’re scoring more points this year than last year – when we had a top 5 easy schedule vs a top 5 hardest schedule this year. That fact alone kind of sh1ts all over your idea that Koetter drastically regressed as a playcaller.

  15. SB with Jameis Says:

GREAT Job young man. Prayers and best wishes to the rest of your career as a Football Player. I know you can do whatever you want in life with your education but it seems you have something to prove by choosing FB first. Kudos!

  16. bojim Says:

Damn. Will miss him big time. Hope hope hope that all he needs is some time. He’s a keeper. You’re our TE Cam!!!

  17. The bucfan 88 Says:

Kobe I watch that game the saints were playing dirty they wanted to end players careers last Sunday I gotta agree with lord Cornelius what else is kotter suppose to do go out the & play wr himself look when cam went down he tried to find other receivers & believed me I know I coach but when u don’t have time in the pocket to get the route open or a wr runs the wrong route your in trouble look stop complaining we are on the rise believe me all we need to do is some how get Alshon Jeffery here in Tampa to play opposite of mike get a right tackle in the draft (not free agency) another tight end a center to work behind Joe a speedy wr in the 2nd- 3rd round speedy noil I think he will drop but this guy is fast & can return kicks If we do that & stay healthy guys will run the NFC south

  18. Doctor Stroud Says:

Best wishes to Brate for a swift recovery! I know that it is tempting to talk about the draft and all, but this is really a game where many Bucs players are fighting for their jobs on next year’s roster.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Kobe …you’re not a Bucs fan…so there’s no “we” as far as you’re concerned.

  20. The Buc Realist Says:

Buc1987 is right!!! And for the record, no one hates “kobe liar” , the truth is more close to just like having dirt or gum on your shoe, its annoying when you notice it, but once its gone, you will never give it a second of thought ever again!!!!!!!

  21. SB with Jameis Says:

And for the record I did my best to get kobe outta here.

  22. SOEbuc Says:

That injury looked bad, but they say Cam is one of the hardest workers and last guys to leave OBP. Hopefully he can fully recover and come back stronger next season cause I really loved him this year. Get well CB84. Can’t wait to see you next year.

  23. Jim Says:

Wonderful to read this praise for Cameron Brate, an excellent young athlete, but how many times have I’ve read here that JW has no one to throw to other than Evans??
