What Did The Bucs Find?

November 7th, 2016
Players need to look in the mirror, GMC said.

Players need to look in the mirror, GMC said.

The Bucs had a three-day weekend, the last such break the team will have this season.

Before the break, just after the loss to the Dixie Chicks, Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy claimed every player on the active roster needed to look in the mirror.

“We’ve got to take these three days off and evaluate ourselves, do some soul searching individually,” McCoy said. “It’s not about pointing fingers and saying, ‘It’s this or it’s that.’ Everybody has to look at themselves and see what they can do better to bring to this team. So the next few days really need to be a break. We don’t need to rest. We need to reload. We’ve just got to uh – something has to give, something has to change.”

From Dirk Koetter’s words, both recent and not very recent, and from America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston last season, you damned right something needs to change.

There is too much chatter and innuendo floating around One Buc Palace of a losing culture, or guys not listening to coaches or some other such crap.

If Joe were Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, Joe would have Jameis come to the GM’s office as soon as the season ends. And then tell Jameis, “I’m leaving this office but will be back in 30 minutes. You don’t have to be here when I return but I would like you to jot down on this legal pad the numbers of the players who are losers, quitters, whiners and malcontents.”

Joe would then proceed to find all those listed new homes and employment.

    Take a look at the dallas cowboys and the oakland raiders and their OL, now james write that down and share that with licht and how licht screwed the OL and depth up on the team, where licht had a shot to get laremy tunsil as well as alel collins and could protect james for the next 10 years, oh and licht let donald penn walk, so james wwrite down on the pad…GET A NEW GM

  2. Bob in valrico Says:

    McCoiy is right,the players need to look at themselves and see what they could do better,including Jameis.Jameis, Pointing fingers at other players
    is one the silliest things I have ever read on this site.Believe Jameis has more class than that.

  3. Not there yet Says:

    Yea McCoy you are the change that needs to happen. This city can argue over whether you are a good player and that is debatable but let’s mom at this true statement. This defense has been used and abused since choosing you to be the anchor. He’s the elephant in the room that needs to be addressed

  4. Dave Says:

    The online depth is great, not sure what you’re telling about. The issue is the OTs regressed a little. We all know they need a better RT but part of the problem is the fact that they have RBs Martin, Rodgers, Simms, Smith all out. Teams aren’t fearing the run when you’re down to the 5th string, they’re just teeing off and rushing.
    Anyway, attack of Licht is ignorant, the guy has been fantastic. They are a Safety, a WR, and another edge rusher away from being a perineal playoff team.
    Plus depth, and Oline…. every team tries to constantly add online and depth everywhere.

    The knock on Licht that I think is valid is hedodnt get another WR. Sheppard and Humpries have proven to be good for 3-4 but they need a speedster at the 2 spot.

  5. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Joe

    The GM and Coaches do not need the QB to write down the names they have the tape!!!!!!

    I keep thinking of the strip sack play against Matt Ryan!!! First Daryl Smith comes free and makes Matt step, who, thanks to his very quick physical ability gets around the guard and sacks Matt who fumbles!!! So far great play!!!

    But then the awareness comes in, And GMC jumps up and starts dancing, because he got a sack, while Daryl Smith ( still playing the play) notices the football and jumps on it!!!!!!

    Awareness!!!!!!!

  6. Dave Says:

    I forgot to mention, they’ll also have one or two other positions to shore up because of the comments made about the losing culture. It seems obvious that there will be a couple surprise cuts when they’re able to make them

  7. gotbbucs Says:

    @ Realist

    I noticed the exact same thing. If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times, this team will not be a consistent winner until they rid themselves of Gerald McCoy.

  8. Kobe Faker Says:

    firing jason licht will be the message to the players and coaches to straighen up and accountability

    Keeping jason licht for the 2017 season would be telling the fans glazers dont care or know what they are doing

    Keeping licht for 2017 would mean status quo to the players. Sign with tampa and rehab for a year

  9. Bob in valrico Says:

    @realist
    I would expect Darryl Smith who was still standing to make that play all day everyday,While his teammate is on the ground after making the tackle and causing the fumble.It’s called teamwork.

  10. tmaxcon Says:

    Bucs will never win consistently with fragile, mentally weak highly paid stars that never make plays when it COUNTS. time to move on from the fraud brothers lvd and gmc…

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Realist

    I agree with you about Jameis not having to make a list.

    I disagree with the rest.

    Darryl Smith only got the ball recovery because he quit on the play and was standing around to see the ball on the ground. He’s young…so I’m not terribly upset about it, because he did recover it and he will learn through experience to not quit (I hope).

    But Gerald McCoy didn’t know the sack caused a fumble. You cannot hold that against him. Has he known, no one with half a brain or more would believe he’d say, “Oh look, a chance for a turnover…screw it…I got the sack!”

    Get real, dude.

    @Dusthty Rhothdes

    Donald Penn???

    You mean the very same guy who struggled constantly with his weight while in Tampa, never getting it under control? The same guy who went elsewhere and had no problem getting it under control????

    Ask yourself why he didn’t do that here and you’ll be able to understand he was one of the quitters that had to go.

  12. Pawel Says:

    I can’t imagine us being like the Browns, these comments will be hot smoking roasted.

  13. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Buccaneer Bonzai

    Please tell me a what point did DS51 quit!!!!! at what time on the play of this video was teh “quit”????

    I will take your silence/disappearance as an apology!!!!!!

  14. tmaxcon Says:

    Pawel

    Bucs are the Browns.

  15. Bryan Says:

    Here is the problem.

    GMC will come back thinking the team needs sunshine and daisies. When the team actually needs some fire. An attitude with some heat. If it ever comes, it will not be GMC who brings it. That much is certain.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

    GMC should be a politician.

  17. Defense Rules Says:

    Thank you Dusthty and thank you Bob. Jameis has far more class than to ever turn on his teammates like Joe suggested. Stocking the roster with talented players is the GM’s job. If he can’t do it, the solution should be obvious.

  18. Dreambig Says:

    The defense just played the #1 offense in the NFL and of coarse was not up to the task. Unfortunatly we are at that point in the season where the mental part of football starts to play a toll. The Bucs desperatly need a win to give these young guys some confidence and to keep the season from circling the drain.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Players like Conte & Martino can stand in front of a mirror all day long and they won’t be better players on Sunday.
    We have a serious void of talent on this team and it needs to be fixed.

    You simply can’t miss on 2nd round picks like ASJ and Aguayo.
    We passed on WR help for Jameis…..missed with Sweezy…..didn’t get safety help……Licht needs to turn it around and soon.

  20. Kobe Faker Says:

    At the draft combine, jameis before first snap, said he wants to be great like brady and manning in terms of superbowls and winning

    After 2 more years, he will demand trade and not sign long term here in tampa…ny jets give 2 #1s for jameis 2019 season

    #jaboo2broadway

  21. BigMacAttack Says:

    I know we talk about the good players booted like Penn and Bennett, but Matt Bryant was the best kicker we’ve had and never should have been cut loose.

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Realist

    He was obviously being lazy and even laying down to take a nap…he just happened to lay down on the football. 😉

  23. martinii Says:

    If Jameis Winston is going to make a list for Licht he sure as hell better add his name somewhere around the top. I believe he is on the verge of being a great QB, however at this point in his career he is inconsistent and on many of his passes the top WR’s in the league couldn’t catch them. Yes he has all the enthusiasm and and motivation in the world, but he misses targets on a regular basis. One nice thing about the Buc’s not playing yesterday was I got an opportunity to see some real QB”s in action and they didn’t have to throw 56 balls to complete 250 yards. Like Ive said before Jameis has to learn that all his receivers aren’t 8’2″. He will in time but until he does and until we improve our depth at certain positions we are not going to win. Great catch by Evans, But terrible throw. At this rate Evans will be on IR.

  24. CalBucsFan Says:

    7 games DO NOT measure a draft Buco’s, chill out and let the seeds planted get watered and sprout.

    This team’s culture will never improve if they keep firing people! Licht has done a very nice job over the last couple of years. Hell, he hit a grand slam 2 drafts ago and at least a triple this past year.

    Koetter is learning to be an NFL head coach, just as Licht is learning to be an NFL GM and JW is learning to be an NFL QB. Let’s try to encourage them and support them instead of making them walk the plank after half a season! Geez, it’s no wonder the Bucs fanbase carries such a bad reputation!

  25. ElioT Says:

    I thought Kwon might be able to step up and be the leader/alpha on defense but he’s not. He’s not smart enough (have you heard his radio show?) and he’s making mistakes all over the place. He can be a beast of a LB but he’s no quarterback of the defense (see Luke Kuechly).

    They need to draft an alpha D-Lineman with a nasty mentality to take over the defensive leadership and force McCoy to take a backseat.

    #lichtmyb*lls

  26. THETRUTH Says:

    Love it same guys here asking to get rid of McCoy asked for same with Penn, and talib now you see what they can do

    MCCoy to soft we need mean guy bad boy you guys cry , well that was talib and you ran him out.

    Let’s get rid of McCoy and this team will have 5 more sacks rest of year collectively cause less people to double or plan for.

  27. Tampa Tony Says:

    Very glad Joe is a blogger and not a NFL GM. Can’t let a 22 year old inconsistent QB be your talent evaluator or you’d end up with a roster of former FSU players.

    If your GM can’t assemble and find NFL talent who want to win and aren’t mentally weak that’s on him not a 22 year old inconsistent QB.

  28. tmaxcon Says:

    so where are all the mariota nut huggers this morning after he’s laughable performance yesterday. Nice fumble and pick 6… Jameis farts in the bathroom and you fools are all over him Mariota is not even in the same league as Winston but it’s no coincidence a lot of the mariota nut huggers also think Glennon will be a starter in the NFL which has ZERO chance of happening…

  29. Pit Says:

    Yeah yeah a DT doesn’t win a game. A DT doesn’t make a difference. Tell that to SUH.

    The change starts but shipping GMC out.

  30. Tnew Says:

    Not Jameis’s responsibility.. Need to clear the young man’s plate and let him concentrate on his trade. Stop pretending that we have a “playoff caliber roster” (not with our safety’s, Running back depth or wide receiver corps) and give the entire coaching staff a pass and tell them to develop for 2018. Nothing else matters at this point. Licht needs to watch his back. He truly believed we were a playoff caliber team, we are just not. GM’s must either be awesome evaluators of talent or employ people who are. He’s making me long for the Rockstar..

  31. Buc1987 Says:

    Gerald who?

    I mean really.

    LOL!!!!!

  33. Poor Glennon Says:

    Awww listen to the #3 fans blaming everything on everybody but Winston. Kobe that statement is so funny. You’d only get a second round pick for Winston. Right now. Garbage time hero. How good were the last 3 defences we faced. All 3 at the bottem of the league. Ya he got off on the niners. But his non garbage time # against Raiders and Falcons. Were absolutely atrocious. We can’t win with this guy period.

  34. Poor Glennon Says:

    How’s that 10-6 prediction going buc unrealist

  35. The Buc Realist Says:

    @poor glennon

    I said many times, that due to the hard schedule, 6-7 wins and that would be showing solid improvement!!!!!!

    That 6 wins last year was as phony as bighogheinous’s street cred!!!!! And he is known as the “weird guy who WALKS up and down the street with a bicycle helmet on”!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. Buc1987 Says:

    Look at Poor Glennon being well Poor Glennon.

    Are you a Glennon fan or a Bucs fan?

  37. Buc_The_World Says:

    @Buccaneer Bonzai

    Donald Penn despite his weight was at the time our best offensive lineman and better than Anthony Collins. I assume you would agree with that. He was better than Donovan Smith is at this point. I assume you would agree with that. So don’t act like Donald Penn’s performance is what got him let go, it was his contract. Just like Darrelle Revis. Our problem since Gruden left has been coaching. We had a position coach as a head coach, which ironically gave us our only winning season since Gruden, 1 college coach who never won anything, 1 experienced coach who lost a step and too stubborn to admit it, and an offensive coordinator, who I have faith in but still has much to prove. How do I know it’s coaching? The vast majority of players that have left our organization have performed up to their expected potential once they were with another organization. Look at Aqib Talib, Donald Penn, Mason Foster…just to name a few.

  38. BringBucsBack Says:

    Realist: Thanks for the vid. Both players hustled and made the play. I certainly did NOT see Smith taking a break. He forced Ryan into the charging McCoy, kept his eyes on the play and recovered the fumble. After making the sack however, McCoy curiously looks at his bench for one second, while the play continues for what appears to be accolades and an early celebration.

    I’m not one who thinks McCoy needs to go, we’re better with him BUT, we need everyone to play with intelligence, THROUGH the play, all the time, every play, every game! Sadly celebrations are the culture in the NFL and DO effect the performance and MENTAL state of the players. Be smart. Sacking the QB is your job. Save the celebration for after your victories!

    Strong veteran leadership should help.

  39. Bucsfanman Says:

    Well, if we go by most people’s evaluation here, we’d be getting rid of our entire defense wouldn’t we? I mean Hargreaves gets a pass, he’s a rookie. Kwon gets a pass, but only because he shines on a team of turds. I mean if we go apples to apples, at least Conte’s putting up numbers, right?!
    Offensively, does anyone here still NOT think that Doug Martin had a HUGE impact on those numbers from last year?!

  40. Tony Says:

    There is really only one way to assess whether a team has a losing culture… that is to track the progress of how former players perform when signed to other teams. THAT is very telling and damning for the Bucs:
    Talib
    Bennett
    Blount
    Penn
    Clayburn (terrorized the Bucs on Thursday)
    Barron (did you SEE his sack yesterday)
    Many, MANY, more…

    I’ve posted several times that the culture of a city affects a team. Tampa is a transplant town with a very whiny fanbase that truly acts like it is waiting for bad things to happen. Some local press is already speculating about Mike Smith being fired and possibly even Koetter… ignorantly unaware that the carousel of different coaches every 1-2 years over the past decade is the DE FACTO reason the Bucs are so bad. We give up on coaches and players and teams way too soon. Other teams around the league reap the benefit of that. Until that changes, nothing will.

  41. LakeLandBuc Says:

    They look in the mirror everyday while getting dressed in their expensive suits, shades, slick haircuts. On the way to the bank to count their money that Incompetent Jason Licht rewarded them with.

  42. DB55 Says:

    Kobe

    I was thinking giants or NE. eli and tom’s contracts are up in 2 years.

  43. LargoBuc Says:

    It’s not that we give up on coaches, its that we keep hiring the wrong ones. The Glazers need to hire a GM to be the overlord/president of football operations, and let him hire his coach if he feels it necessary.

  44. Ray Rice Says:

    Did his weak a$$$ make that comment with a smile on his face? MF has a tendency to do that. Aunt Geraldine needs to just STFU and play. Worry about your own mirror Geraldine.

  45. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Buc_The_World

    I didn’t say Penn wasn’t a good player. I inferred that he obviously didn’t care to be at his best until after he left the team.

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Can I just say? If I owned this team I’d take the fine and shoot double birds at the fans in my first appearance.

    It would be well worth it.

    It’s not like the local market is what keeps the team alive. It’s the advertising. And then I would make the team great and move it to Fort Lauderdale…just to give a final FU to the horrible Tampa fans.

    Yeah…that’s what I would do…and laugh when they cried over it.

  47. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Joe

    Be lucky that I am not one of the Glazers!!! If it was, I would never speak personally to the media and, I would stop the under utilization of the Pirate ship!
    When the flag on the pirate ship would rise, that would indicate that a statement would be made at 5 p.m. that day. The media would walk up to the pirate ship and then the canons would fire! an actor dressed and speaking pirate would then walkout and read my statements!!!!

    The real payoff for me though would be in year 2 and 3, when the media was already sick of it, But still the canons and smoke go off in their faces and they have to listen to some guy saying that ” arrr Lovie had to walk de plank arrrr”!!!

  48. ATrain Says:

    This down hill slide took place around the time Raheem “the Players” coach came into power…

    Unlike ginger and vjack going to the highest bidder even though you know they will never contend for the superbowl

    Jameis is going to his 2nd offseason while other qbs are playing in the playoffs

    He is and will be seeing dak and derek carr continuously playing in the playoffs and being the face of both winning successful franchises. They will be the new faces of the nfl and be replacing brady.

    If you think jameis is going to sign the next contract here losing like this you are a fool.

    Better wise up glazers

  51. Cash Money Says:

    After three years you would think the GM would have an idea of who the quitters are. Licht can certainly draft well. But everything else is questionable.
