Serious Injuries For Antone Smith, Howard Jones

November 4th, 2016

jameislockerMore walking/not walking wounded today at One Buc Palace.

Today, Dirk Koetter announced that running back Antone Smith and defensive end Howard Jones had serious injuries.

The Bucs have now burned through running backs Doug Martin, Charles Sims, Mike James (injured late in preseason), Jacquizz Rodgers and Smith, who joined the team in October.

Things haven’t been much healthier at defensive end, though the loss of Jones is relatively insignificant.

James was re-signed last week and he is now atop the depth chart with undrafted rookie Peyton Barber, who was ineffective last night.

What an unbelievable mess for a team built to run the ball and use play-action.

Please don’t ask Joe about the status of Martin’s hamstring, which was injured in Week 2 and suffered a setback in October. It’s a One Buc Palace secret.

Snake bitten. Someone needs to get the lady who cleansed the Superdome to get rid of the bad juju forces at Ray Jay.

  2. feelthepewterpower Says:

    probably a torn hamstring.

ala Longoria a couple years ago…

Also, i wanted to wring that Lead Referees Neck last Night. No protection of Jameis, Who got drilled Helmet to Helmet laying on the ground. Julio Jones Lost Possession of that ball and it hit the ground. Not one Offensive hold on the Falcons when they clearly were multiple times.. That mofo was straight up crooked.

    get well soon gentlemen

i guess Dirk’s country club training camp is really doing well preventing injuries…

  6. tmaxcon Says:

bucs did not use enough bubble wrap during training camp and practice sessions…

  7. North Korea's Quarterback Says:

Ladies and Gentlemen, let the tanking for Myles Garrett begin!

  8. ATLBucsFan Says:

Well, well, well. I suppose we are to hear that injuries don’t matter right? Never believed that argument. They matter.

  9. Chris Says:

Always think of the 80s musician whenever I hear Howard Jones name. Things can only get betterrrrr

  10. Jdr Says:

Bring trent richardson run a true playaction i form

  11. Buccaneers Says:

Bye loser. Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out. Don’t worry we won’t miss either of you two bums………. I’ll wait I should be more sensitive to words are players feelings. They are after all as soft as it comes for NFL players

  12. Rod Munch Says:

On the good side Mike James is the best, as a lead back, of any of the options outside of Martin. I’ve always thought Mike James might have a Ernest Graham type of career – and hopefully for him he does just that. He’s nothing flashy, just a north south runner who sees the field fairly well. Mike can catch the ball well enough to not be a liability in the passing game as well. While I really hope Martin is back for next game, if not I have a lot of confidence in James – assuming the Bucs even use a running game and aren’t down by 75 points by halftime.

  13. MustBeBurtReynolds Says:

So we have gone through 5 running backs so far? Why do articles get posted and fans get angry and say Koetter should be on hot seat! and Mike Smith should be fired! This team has been riddled with injuries and we knew prior to the season it could not handle many losses, especially at key positions. Year is a wash, we need to draft well and develop. It sucks but be patient and give it another year or 2

  14. BucsFanInChina Says:

Hear that? We have plunged to the depths of fans pining for Trent Richardson. Dagnabbit I don’t know who was snake bitten worse, the Bucs RBs, or me for having been born into a Bucs family

  15. BucsFanInChina Says:

Roto reporting Antone Smith is done for the year. It’s the Mike James and Peyton Barber show from here on out folks!

  16. Kobe Faker Says:

Yhe reporters ask the worst least important questions. I want 2 questions answered. Will russ shep and quizz be available next week

With shep fulltime at wr2 and quizz as lead back, this is enough and the best skill weapons jameis has sonce drafted

We are out of the playoffs, let jameis loose and let him develop to his strengths….

You will see the best prolific offense in the nfl end of the year

Jameis will be able to rock and tearup defenses starting 2017

  17. Chris Says:

You know why? Because we relied on Doug Martins lazy injury prone ass. Now, were relegated to signing guys off the street who are in nowhere near football shape and they get injured. Shocking. We are years away and good coaching and GM away from competing. It’s Groundhog Day every year as a Buc fan. I like to say a special shout out to all the positive posters who called me Negative Nelly games ago when you were fooled by that crap fest win against Carolina. How could you not see this is the same damn team we’ve put up with for over ten years?

  18. ElioT Says:

Time to put Dougie Not-so Fresh Martin on a milk carton.

    What a horrible season.

  19. Chris Says:

It’s why every year players get injured and don’t come back( unless it’s a contract year and then they’re remarkably healthy) They see the handwriting on the wall after the first few games and they jump into tub, it happened to Morris, it happened to Schiano, to Lovie, now to Koetter

  20. Pelbuc Says:

Someone posted that the last time the defense played hard was during Schiano. Sad but true. These players need to be treated like they’re treating the fans. Only in Tampa do you have to request of the players to toughen up. Pathetic!!!

  21. ElioT Says:

This “catch Bucs fever” campaign needs to go. The Buccaneers marketing department needs to stfu.

    It’s a fever alright.

  22. scott Says:

    Ray Rice anybody?

  23. Bucnut2 Says:

Should I yawn now or later. Neither of these matter at all.

  24. Bucnut2 Says:

Kobe- will need to cure JW’s color blindness first. When he is cut loose hits the incorrect colored jersey to often!

  25. DB55 Says:

James Wilder Jr, kniles davis and/or Karlos Williams. Why is this not obvious?

  26. Defense Rules Says:

The Bucs started 2016 with the eighth youngest team in the NFL (25.7 yrs). Since then we’ve lost several ‘old-timers’ (26 or older): VJax, George Johnson, Sims, Jack Smith, Murphy, Sweezy, Martin. A bunch of other ‘old-timers’ have been hurt a bunch and missed several games: McDonald, Ayers, Stocker, Rodgers. Bottom line: the product we’re putting on the field has gotten appreciably younger than the roster we started 2016 with, and is probably close to the youngest in the NFL. And many of those weren’t even drafted. How can anyone in team management believe that’s a recipe for fielding a winning team?

  27. kobe Faker Says:

    buc nut

run run pass on 3rd and long is not winning high probability offense and success

3-5 step drop uptempo passing on 1st and 2nd down

screens, crossing patterns,go routes, seam routes

this is jameis strength and is undefendable ala big ben without the weapons but buc it , its all we got offense

    lets develop to his stengths

lets drop +35 pts every game on them biatches

  28. cmurda Says:

    @Bucnut,

Let your hatred of Jameis rest for a while. Unless you drank a bottle of moron to wash down your idiot sandwich, you would see that JW and M.E. were the only 2 players on this team worth a crap last night. Fire away at the incompetent, and should have already been fired y now, Mike Smith. We are going to blitz, confuse the defense, run plenty of 3-4 sets— Mike Smith circa August 2016.

  29. Tomcin Says:

The Bucs have no really good to great players except for ME. JW is ok but not a franchise QB at least yet. D. Smith average LT at best. Same with rest of OL except for Marpet. I don’t know if D is as bad as they look or is it the coaching. M. Smith not looking good as DC. Grimes seems to be a shell of his oldself. Hargreaves ? McCoy is way overpaid. Should possibly see what they could get in trade, since this this season is already lost. Wouldn’t mind getting McKay back as GM. Better yet Gruden as HC>

  30. Owlykat Says:

JW will never be a franchise QB if he gets his brains beat out because Koetter refuses to move our RT to LT and retrain D. Smith to play Guard, his best position. He is no LT! And why leave JW at QB in games that cannot be won and subject JW to being beat up. Put Glennon in and let him work on his video to win a contract elsewhere next year.
