Lovie Approved

November 18th, 2016
Champion of takeaways.

Champion of takeaways.

When former Bucs coach Lovie Smith ran the team, he had a singular focus: Takeaways.

It didn’t matter how horrible the defense played; it didn’t matter if dudes could not tackle; it didn’t matter if the defense gave up ghastly amounts of passing yards. If Lovie got a takeaway, he was happy.

Lovie got so aroused about takeaways, it was as if Joe was staring at his Rachel Watson poster deep into the night.

Never mind that punts were takeaways too, Lovie wasn’t interested in forcing punts.

But Lovie’s fetish for takeaways sprung to mind when Joe was tipped off by the following from the Bucs media relations folks. Since Week 5, the Bucs have forced 13 takeaways, the most in the NFL. The team’s +9 turnover margin during that span is the second-highest in the league.

Somewhere in the cornfields of central Illinois, Lovie is smiling. Takeaways were the name of his game. And Joe is confident, like a proud papa, Lovie is warmed by the Bucs getting so many takeaways.

Now, about that Fighting Illini pass defense.

I would say the Players are starting to catch on to Smitty’s Defense. Now, if he could just STOP playing our CBs 10 yards of the LOS!

pump the brakes on the defense catching on….it also helps when you play 3 teams with losing records since week5….I think the defense has been playing better because they went up against Carolina, san fran and Chicago since week5….cant remember if we forced a turnover vs. Oakland, since ive tried to forget that game and we got blown out vs. the falcons…..

if the defense plays the chiefs or seahawks like they did vs. Chicago or san fran, i’ll give credit where credit is due….until then, you got to show me against a quality team….GO KAP…GO BUCS!!!!

    Def need more press coverage!

Let’s not kind ourselves, this week against KC we will be lucky to get 1 takeaway. The Chiefs simply don’t turn the ball over.

Say what you will about Alex Smith and downfield passing, but the guy is smart w/ the football and very accurate on his dinks and dunks. Defense will need to bring pressure, play close to the LOS, and close up those running lanes! Smith is quick on his feet too.
