Joe Hawley Returns; Will Start Sunday

Center Joe Hawley

Center Joe Hawley

Soothing news popping tonight.

Starting center Joe Hawley will return raring to go Sunday in Kansas City, per Dirk Koetter speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Hawley missed Sunday’s game with a knee injury suffered against the Falcons. Evan Smith started for him but lasted just six snaps before the Bucs turned to NFL newbie and third-string center Ben Gottschalk.

This is especially great news considering Kevin Pamphile is out again (concussion) and rookie Caleb Benenoch will make his second NFL start at left guard.

64 down, 68 up. Story of the Bucs lines this yr. Lets just play nasty and open some holes for the Dougernaught!

    Some positive news….. finally

  5. SteelStudBuc Says:

This guy is one tough S.O.B.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Great news. Bucs need his leadership on the OLine desperately. Still wondering where Gosder Cherilus is in all this. He’s played in every game but just for a few snaps and only at tackle. Apparently doesn’t play Guard … Bucs must believe that Benenoch is better anyway since they didn’t slide Dotson over to LG and plug in Cherilus at RT.

  7. Bird Says:

JOe – Can gottschalk move and play gaurd. Seems like he has more experience and may be better start at this time. Benenoch may get more of a chance next year

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I had a feeling this tough guy would start. He’s not healthy. What he really needs is two weeks of recovery time, but he’s to dedicated to take them, so we’ll see him going out of games the rest of the season.

That said, I remember when most here said we needed to draft a center in the last draft. I never understood that. This guy was playing very well.

Injuries are a concern, but if he can make it through this season without a long term injury, he can get healthy again.

  9. unbelievable Says:

Yea but Bonzai he has been going down with an injury every single week lately.

Sometimes he misses a few plays, sometimes a drive or 2. Sooner or later it’s going to last weeks and we will be SOL.

I like Hawley, but I think age and injuries are going to catch up with him sooner than later.

  10. Doctor Stroud Says:

You are right, unbelievable. Hawley coming out of the game with a significant injury (and then miraculously returning) is almost as certain as the sun rising in the East or Demar Dotson committing a holding penalty. The coaching staff should dress all of the remaining offensive linemen, just in case.

It’s good till he hurts himself midway thru the game

  12. Fred E. Buc Says:

This is awesome news. But JOE, hey, Evan Smith when out with an injury. Your article makes it sound like he got yanked for being beaten. Evan Smith is a key guy on our team who has stepped up. He’s no superstar, but please confirm he just got injured?

  13. Fred E. Buc Says:

Joe Hawley is a great asset. Love his swagger. As for JoeBucsFan. Man, I’m a capitalist too but the builds and ads on this site make it impossible to type a response. Such crap.
