Improved Mechanics = Accuracy

Fed up with being a punching bag.

Better footwork foundation

Bucs fans used to grumble how America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is inaccurate. That hasn’t been the case of late.

Against the Chiefs on Sunday, Jameis was on fire. A new Jameis has existed in the past five games in which he has only given up two picks. What has changed? Football writer Matt Waldman is convinced Jameis has changed his mechanics, and for the better.

To be precise, Waldman notes Jameis’ footwork has greatly improved. And that footwork allows him to better set up in the pocket.

Watch Jameis Winston’s feet at Florida State and his rookie year with the Buccaneers and he had long, loping strides. His footwork was confident, but the lower half of his body often failed to operate in sync with his upper half. The result was erratic decisions and wild flights of inaccuracy.

Waldman uses video of Jameis’ pass to Mike Evans deep in Chiefs territory last week along the left sideline as evidence. The footwork allows him to properly set up in the pocket to deliver an on-time pass to Evans, as pretty of a pass as you will ever see any quarterback throw.

And cut down on the wide open over throws.

It’s become quite obvious this season Joe that ‘As goes Jameis, so goes the Bucs’. And yet, what’s been great to watch is how different guys on the team have stepped up at various times and made big plays to score and to keep drives alive.

Bucs have really improved their time-of-possession in these last 4 wins and that’s huge I think. In our 4 wins since the 3 straight losses to the Broncos, Rams and Cardinals, the Bucs have kept the ball for an average of over 35 mins TOP each game. In their 2 losses since the Denver game, they kept the ball less than 28 mins TOP. Big difference to our defense I’m sure since the DLine especially has been so beaten up. Defense is obviously playing better football (especially now that the DLine is healthier), but a lot of the credit for fewer snaps on D should go to Jameis and our offense. They’ve really been stepping up to the plate these last 6 games.

IM SORRY, but i have to post this

Only logical and reasonable. Jameis getting the baseball pitching motion out of him.

Last year, there was 5 flutters per game. Now the spirals are noticeably tighter

This perfectly led pass and more like it can only help the offense. When Jameis and his receiving corp click defenses will be forced to defend both the pass and the run instead of 8 men in the box to stop the run primarily.

@Kobe … “IM SORRY, but i have to post this.” Go ahead and say it Kobe … You missed us. Remember the old saying though … ‘Don’t let your mouth write a check that your butt can’t cover.’ Don’t make any more promises if you’re gonna keep coming back.

  7. Guzzie Says:

Jameis is learning how to play with his new body, his mind has always been quick, but his body wasn’t, get think of any QB that completely changed his body in one year, only one that comes to mind was Brady, but his transformation took a few years, Brady was a game manager supported by great defense and running game early in his career, getting the baseball mechanics out of his system takes time, Jameis work ethic is unbelievable

Kobe…I’ve left the site on a few occasions. Made a foolish statement and everything. Always eventually come back. Dude the site is hard to stay away from, that’s why were all here.

As far as Jameis. He sometimes still sets up like an outfielder trying to launch the ball to SS. Yet those balls get there too.

I’ve never stressed out over Winston’s “mechanics”. Steve Young, John Elway and various greats all had poor “mechanics”, yet the ball gets there. I really don’t how he gets it there. So I don’t think the overthrows had anything to do with his mechanics. Then again I’m not some QB guru, so as DB says “what do I know?”

  9. Buc1987 Says:

    I really don’t CARE how

  10. Kobe Faker Says:

    Agreed Buc1987

Philip rivers has the worst motion in the history of the nfl and he probably is heading toward HOF

*Kobe likes to post here because he feels a stronger connection with Jenna Laine

Jamies is only 22 and should be playing his senior year in college.
It’s very obvious that Jamies is on his way to greatness.

I believe they have undone some of the pressed on him mechanics and have actually lengthened his feet and motion just a bit. His feet were just too short for his motion and he was behind and underneath his throws. He’s not near as long as his college days but they had overdone it and it’s showing as the last two games he has opened up a bit. They were trying to get him to Marino status but he’s not that type of thrower, congrats to whoever stepped in on the staff and allowed him to open a bit. It’s clear someone did !!!

  15. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Expecting Winston, or any QB, to be perfect on every throw is misguided. No QB makes every throw into the numbers. We could have a QB like Alex Smith, who leaves big plays on the field because he is indecisive and afraid to pull the trigger, or we could have a QB like Winston, who will make some mistakes, but pushes the ball down field and makes big plays. I know I’d rather have a QB that wants to make the big play than one that always plays it safe. I’m tired of the 15 play drives that end in a punt, I want the 4 play drives that end in TDs that we’ve seen from Winston. Long play drives are nice, but a lot more can go wrong when you have to go to 3rd down every time to convert. As Bucs fans, we are not used to the downfield threat of Winston. I’m on board and can’t wait to see how the ride ends.

  16. BuccaneEric75 Says:

On a different note, I’ve been surprised by what Winston has done with the group of receivers he has. I’ve been on the “screw the defense and get Jameis some weapons” train for a while. After seeing the offense for the last few games, I’m now in the “draft all defense cause Winston will make the receivers look better” train. I think that will be my hope for this offseason. We need a pass rusher, a Saftey or two and a linebacker. Make that a pass rusher or two, you can’t have enough to pass rushers! The future is bright. Get ready for some big time football for the next 15 years!
