Kwon talks to Joe

The Bucs lost their nickel cornerback, Hey Jude Adjei-Barimah, to a four-game suspension this week for violating the NFL performance enhancing drug policy.

Kwon Alexander knows all about that. He was popped last year for the same thing and missed the final four games of the season.

It was an energy drink that doomed Kwon, he announced last year.

Today, Joe asked Kwon if he reached out to Hey Jude and what the conversation was like.

“I talked to him. He gonna be alright,” Kwon said. “We’re going to the playoffs so he’s gonna need to be ready to come back.”

Kwon said he advised Hey Jude on keeping himself in game shape and what it will be like to be away from the team. As part of the suspension, Hey Jude can have no contact with the team facility or coaches.

Kwon trained at multiple local facilities last year to stay ready in case the Bucs made the playoffs.

Joe also talked to Alterraun Verner about Hey Jude. Verner said the players had no advance knowledge of the suspension.

Verner said he would be ready to play the nickel but has practiced there very sparingly this season.

My guess would be that Hey Jude won’t be back. He’s a fringe player unlike Kwon.

“We’re going to the playoffs so he’s gonna need to be ready to come back.” way to think Kwon!!! none of that debbie downer crap

  3. R.O. Says:

Ummm… Jude is not a fringe Player.

  4. Jason Says:

So apparently starting nickle CB = fringe player? *eye roll*

“We’re going to the playoffs so he’s gonna need to be ready to come back.”

In baseball, players who get suspended for PEDs aren’t allowed to play in the playoffs at all, even if their suspension is over by then. NFL needs a similar rule.

I guess we will see if he plays for the Bucs again…you guys act like he’s Ronde Barber.

Hard to know how cut and dry these tests are. If the kid is Lance Armstrong doping that’s one thing but if he is having 5hour or fancy cup of coffee then damn. I understand the rules but I also question the method variables. Let’s not pretend that the sport isn’t painfully unforgiving.
Just hope for fair treatment now and going forward.
Would rather btch about players that can’t play, receivers that can’t catch and keekers that can’t keeks.
Fortunately everyone is doing their job the last few weeks.
    Go Bucs

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Do we know what caused the suspension? For Kwon it was an energy drink. What was it for this guy?

And Hey Jude is a fringe player. He may be starting at nickle, but that’s because the Bucs have not filled the role with a better player yet. He hasn’t done that great in his role…not great enough to lock down the position.

we need someone in the slot to cover Doug Baldwin

  10. orlbucfan Says:

What did he do? Smoke pot?

  11. America's Commenter Says:

@orlbucfan No, it’s not for smoking pot, that would be a violation of the NFL’s Substance Abuse Policy and would be handled by a different process.

This is a violation of the NFL’s Performance Enhancing Drug Policy. The list of “drugs” casts the net very wide, and bans many perfectly legal over-the-counter supplements. It could be something as serious as anabolic steroids, as harmless as bitter orange extract (synephrine), or anything in-between. Because of Federal HIPAA laws, we’ll never know unless Jude authorizes the disclosure of the violation.
