GMC Calls Out His Haters

November 3rd, 2016
No use for the haters.

No use for the rabble.

The anti-Gerald McCoy rabble is not going to like this.

Yes, few NFL teams have a top-shelf player with legions of haters quite like GMC and his anti-GMC rabble. To hear some go off on GMC, it is as if he is Stylez White reincarnate.

Joe has been a long-time defender of GMC but Joe must be be fair. When he recorded but one tackle last week against Oakland, that just shoveled coal on the fires of the crazies who want to run him out of town.

Joe is sure GMC himself would say he should have had a bigger impact last Sunday.

(Joe has no idea how hurt GMC was playing against the Raiders, since he was limited in practice last week leading up to the game. However, when GMC sat out a series as part of his rotation in the third quarter, Akeem Spence took his spot and he was completely and totally owned and molested by the Raiders’ front line, which exposed the interior of the Bucs defense with their run game with GMC on the sidelines.)

So this week, when GMC was asked about Matty Ice, GMC raved about him and almost immediately knew the hate crowd would pounce on his words. GMC said, in a roundabout way, the haters can go take a long walk on a short pier.

“I love the guy,” GMC said of Matty Ice. “I know Bucs fans will go, ‘Oh here he goes again being a nice guy.’ I don’t care how you guys feel! I like Matty Ice! So what? He’s a nice guy. He’s a great player, so what? I love football and I respect him. He’s a great player so he makes you go play a lot harder, you know? I will shake his hand before the game and I will shake his hand after the game. During the game I will try to kill him.”

Look, Joe has stated this before. There are all kinds of guys on the roster to throw rocks at and bellyache about and stomp your feet about. Jan Stenerud? Sure. Chris Conte? Sure. GMC? C’mon. GMC is hardly an albatross, check yourself.

Warren Sapp used to rave about Brett Favre. Joe doesn’t remember watching Bucs fans run into oncoming traffic over that.

What GMC really meant to say is – “my paycheck cashed again this week so I love everybody!”

  2. Dooshlarue Says:

Put up and I will shut up GMC.
I’m so sick of the excuses. …..

  3. tmaxcon Says:

just shut up and make a damn play when it matters O’fragile one

  4. Ryan Says:

When was the last time our paper superstar dominated a game? Geno,Star,A Donald all do it.When was last time our nice guy was a terror? Or put team and D on his back to lock down a win.NEVER is when. He had a shot last week but nooooooo.I didn’t see a ton of double teams also. Give me a break. Dude needs to ball out or stfu. For the money he makes we should be getting a whole lot more.

  5. Island_buc Says:

You are one of the most obnoxious people who comment on Joe’s posts. Jesus it’s negativity and just plain crap every time you comment. People come here to relax and escape into football not to read your garbage every single post. Why don’t you just go be a patriots fan or something and complain less?

  6. Joe Says:

When was the last time our paper superstar dominated a game?

Bucs coaches pretty much said he did against San Francisco, which was, what, 10 days ago?

  7. ElioT Says:

Look, I’m happy to have McCoy on this team, but you can’t argue that his career has been a bit of a disappointment.

All the excuses and explanations (supporting cast, injuries, coaching carrosel) aside, this guy should be a game wrecker and it just has never came to fruition.

Good DT but rarely makes any meaningful impact or clutch plays.

    Go Sucs!

  8. Joe Says:

Look, I’m happy to have McCoy on this team, but you can’t argue that his career has been a bit of a disappointment.

Really? When you draft a guy high in the first round, you hope he’s a top-shelf player for years. GMC has been.

If you compare — which is what Joe thinks way too many Bucs fans do — a high draft pick with an automatic Hall of Fame player, then yeah, you will be disappointed.

No, GMC is not a Hall of Famer. Joe sees zero shame in that.

  9. ndog Says:

Keep defending him Joe, but let me just ask you this. Would anyone be surprised one bit if we are sitting here in 24 hours looking at another 1-2 tackle no sack game from GMC? That is the problem we all know he is not going to do anything yet we act like he should. I believe that says it all, as we keep waiting and waiting but it never happens.

  10. Joe Says:

Keep defending him Joe, but let me just ask you this. Would anyone be surprised one bit if we are sitting here in 24 hours looking at another 1-2 tackle no sack game from GMC?

Generally, to rack up a spitload of tackles, running backs have to run somewhere near you. How many crazy offensive coordinators are going to run *at* the best defensive lineman on the other side of the ball?

May want to re-read this post and see what the Raiders did when GMC was out of the game.

  11. R.O. Says:

I don’t care that he’s “nice” I care that he’s paid to be a game changer. We can agree he is not…

  12. Kobe Faker Says:

This is why conte is getting all the snaps

He is the last line of defense when they gash overrated gmc. Lvd and kwonie repeatedly

  13. Joe Says:

Just for a point of reference, the leading tackler among DTs this season is Damon Harrison of the Giants with 35, which works out to five tackles a game.

Bucs coaches felt GMC’s best game of the season was at San Francisco. Even Chip Kelly said GMC gave them fits and screwed up their offensive package. GMC had two tackles that game.

Granted, as many times as the Raiders passed, he should have had a bigger impact.

  14. tmaxcon Says:

    Island_buc

First, thank you for the Obnoxious compliment. Second, I am not negative I am 100% accurate… Not everyone can be a blind fan boy hiding under the moniker of Optimist…

Joe’s dead wrong on McCoy but it’s his party therefore he’s allowed to be blind drunk on the topic.

  15. BucTrooper Says:

The only time we talk about Gerald McCoy is when he is either injured or has gone missing.

Think about warren Sapp’s career. How many “signature games and “can you think of? I can think of at least for right off the top of my head. Those are games where warren Sapp took over and wasn’t going to let the team lose no matter what. Either multiple sacks, huge hits, I even remember him catching a touchdown in Atlanta.

Now ask yourself this: where is Gerald McCoy’s signature game? There’s no highlight of his that gets played over and over again.

  16. nate Says:

For the bucs I’m sick of talk just shut up and play that last loss was one of the worse loses ever by the bucs!

  17. tmaxcon Says:

    Realist

Who will have more sacks tonight ice cream man or slowborne?

Who is more likely to make a play in the the 4th qtr tonight Ice Cream Man or slowborne?

  18. BucTrooper Says:

He tends to rack up his handful of stats and then it looks pretty good at the end of the year and then we move onto the next year. He has been here for so long and he hasn’t taken over that one game where we said that was all him.

  19. Defense Rules Says:

Take a look at the class of 2010 for DTs & DEs and I think that GMC is holding his own in terms of sacks and tackles. Two DTs (Atkins & Suh) have more sacks than GMC since coming in, as have 3 DEs (Dunlap, Griffen & Pierre-Paul). And all of them have been playing with more talent beside them on the DLine far as I’m concerned. How much money he makes is irrelevant; that’s between GMC and team management. And far as excuses go, folks must be reading something I’m not … I don’t ever hear him complain. Have seen him play hurt however, when a lot of others would’ve thrown in the towel. If y’all are looking for a scapegoat, Bucs have had several who could qualify. GMC isn’t one of them.

  20. Getaclue Says:

85 snaps 1 tackle. Dan Sileo could of gotten that lmao

  21. Chris Says:

I think many forget how hard of a worker this dude is. Through the offseason everyone talks about how they want to model themselves after GMC when training. Also, he has played through injuries almost every year. I’m sure many of you, if injured as bad as him would skip work. Unlike GMC who hates missing any time playing and is a team guy through and through. Sure he may be to “nice”, but that has nothing to do with his performance. Every team we play against, during thier respective press conferences, can’t stress enough of how important stoping GMC is. Oakland has one of the top o lines this year and they showed it. GMC is injuried… And he’s playing, what more can you ask. Ultimate team guy and he will produce like he always has… ( hense the 4 prowl bowls, three being all pro). Then again you guys know a lot more then full time NFL analysts, pro coaches, and players. So maybe you are all on to something. If your a true Bucs fan you know it’s a roller coaster of emotions, and it’s people like GMC that will help us get out of this misery. it’s just the Bucs life! Cheers

  22. tmaxcon Says:

    Defense Rules

your a hell of a guy I bet but wrong on this subject… there is more to the “Stat Line” there is the eye test and the heart test… Star players make players around them better GMC does NOT several dlinemen have actually left the line done well elsewhere one even came back after a decent season in detroit and put up zero playing next to the BEAST. Star players make plays when it matters most. When it matters most for the bucs GMC is nowhere to be found… If he was an impact player first I would have no argument and second the GMC supporters would be able to rattle of play after play the BEAST made shutting me up… Instead I get, he’s good in the community, we are so lucky to have him, he hosts movie night, he has no help, no coaches (he quits on coaches too), yadda yadda yadda….

It’s also not the fact he plays hurt it’s the FACT that is ALWAYS hurt…

  23. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Same posts by the same people. No longer interesting.

  24. tmaxcon Says:

    Hawaiian Buc

come on Hawaiian bring that sh!t don’t be a quitter like your client!!!! Tell us how great he is I need some positive reading before the game.

  25. Tony Says:

    Waaah, waaaah.
    Worst fans in the NFL.

Quick… name the last Bucs defensive end to record 10 sacks in a season, something Joe reminds us all the time…
You have to go back ten years to find one.

The Bucs continually put second string talent at the defensive end positions because… well, I’m not really sure why. Remember… this is a team whose best DE since Simeon was let go for no reason ( Michael Bennett). Because the Bucs run a chorus line of never have beens at DE, GMC gets doubled and tripled. Period. All of our defensive ends get one on one matchups the entire game… and lose those matchups. Solve that problem and wow.

But sure, let’s run another great Bucs player out of town so they can go and win chips elsewhere like Bennett, Talib, Blount, etc.

  26. cmurda Says:

    Joe,

Man, you are on it. I was going to post the same comments that I read from McCoy. I was trying to figure out where most appropriate and then bamm, here it is.

I have no problem with McCoy’s comments. He said nothing but truth but, you know, it would be really nice for him to leave out the following.

” I know Bucs fans will say, ‘Oh there you go being a nice guy again.’ I don’t care how you guys feel, I like Matty Ice”.

I don’t feel bad about any onslaught GMC faces. You are asking for it by saying this. So, you don’t care anything about what we say, huh? So, we are 3-16 at home in our last 19 games and you don’t care about the fans that still pay inflated prices to watch us lose at home. You should care.

I have long been a GMC fan and this won’t change that but another 1 useless tackle game and you better believe what he’s doing on the field will affect my thoughts on him.

  27. LakeLandBuc Says:

They should have drafted Aaron Donald, when they had the chance.

  28. Dooshlarue Says:

    Chris

If GMC’s training is so stellar then why is he continually injured?
Maybe he’s doing it all wrong?

  29. Warrenfb12 Says:

Don’t compare sapp and McCoy man. Youth know they aren’t the same player/leader or person.

  30. Warrenfb12 Says:

Don’t compare sapp and McCoy man. You know they aren’t the same player/leader or person.

  31. tmaxcon Says:

there must be two chris’s or chris is a schizophrenic… I could have sworn there was a Chris just yesterday who questioned the BEAST

  32. Scottasuarus Says:

“You play to win the game”.
Since GMC has been here, it aint happening, so STFU!

  33. Lord Corn Says:

We need more d lineman with McCoy ability. McDonald has been missed

  34. Bucluck Says:

4 different head coaches, subpar draft picks, just gaining a franchise qb who is still developing, and the lack of defensive line support or just defensive help in gerneral… your right it’s not GMC fault he’s done what he’s been asked on a team that’s been badly run over the last couple years.

  35. Poor Glennon Says:

Is there anyone out there that thinks GMC and Winston suck. It seems like the Winston lovers hate GMC and vise versa.

  36. BucTrooper Says:

    Dear Chris,

I don’t care if he works hard if it doesn’t yield results. If there are two guys chopping down trees and one guy is using an ax and one guy is using a sledgehammer, they are both working hard. At the end of the day we are not giving the sledgehammer guy style points because he worked hard.

  37. Poor Glennon Says:

The only thing wrong with GMC is that he’s injury prone. When he’s 100% he’s a beast. But he’s only 100% probably 20% of the time.

  38. LakeLandBuc Says:

Poor Glennon, GMC sucks, Winston sucks, the coaching staff sucks, the owners sucks, the GM sucks, the entire ream sucks from the owners to the waterboy. % years running as bottom feeders, they have to suck.

  39. Joseph Mamma Says:

3rd overall pick should be a game changer, McCoy has never really been for any stretch of games or even plays. I’m sure he’s been a game changer for his financial advisor though.

  40. Ray Rice Says:

Aunt Geraldine = Pedro Cerrano from the movie Major League when he gets a spell cast on him. MF said he will TRY and kill him. LOL. Man Aunt Geraldine you don’t have a mean bone in your body. Shut that $hit up.

  41. LakeLandBuc Says:

    ream =team

  42. Miko Says:

It’s the not being upset after a loss part that kills me…too many smiles in defeat….and he is injured continually…

  43. tmaxcon Says:

Efforts without results are meaningless no matter if it’s sports, life, work etc.. Winning is all that matters. Winners win and losers make excuses

  44. LakeLandBuc Says:

I meant 5 years running as a bottom feeder.

  45. Chris Says:

Love the analogy! I’m like all of you I want the Bucs to win! Sure GMC hasn’t been stellar as of late. Yah he works hard but that doesn’t prevent injury. It doesn’t help that he’s constantly double teamed with no one really to help him, hopefully spence in the future can be a great asset. Every great d line player always has a supporting cast. Bucs are in a new defense with new players except Clinton who is also hurt, it takes a few years for a team to gel and develop young player. Look at Will Goldstein he’s been on the team a few years and he’s now just coming on as a go to guy. GMC can only do so much and he can’t be the guy we go to throw all our hate to. I hope nothing but the best for this team, and there are times I can’t stand them for constantly letting me down. At least we’re not the Browns…

  46. Defense Rules Says:

@Poor Glennon … “The only thing wrong with GMC is that he’s injury prone. When he’s 100% he’s a beast. But he’s only 100% probably 20% of the time.” B-U-L-L

McCoy was drafted in 2010, and since then has started 85 out of 103 games Bucs have played … over 82%. One of those years (2011) he only played in 6 games because of a torn bicep if I remember right (impossible to play with 1 arm more than likely). Since then, he’s played in 66 out of 71 games … 93%. And that’s in the interior of the DLine, going against double and triple teams of guys who almost all outweigh him by a bunch. I’d almost be willing to bet that he’s played a higher percentage of snaps in those games than any other DT because Bucs lack the quality depth most other teams have.

  47. ATrain Says:

DID McCoy say he would try and kill him during the GAME HAHAHAHAH…

    RIGHT!!

GMC you want to Shut Up your Haters THEN HIT SOMEONE…
Stop standing straight up — Im sure your High School Coach taught you that..
You are a HIGHLY PAID PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYER now produce..

McCoy has 10 solo tackles for the year
McDonald 13 solo tackles for the year
Gholston 20 solo tackles for the year

    Wonder why you have HATERS….

PLEASE MCCOY SHUT ME UP TONIGHT….
I WILL COME ON HERE AND SING YOUR PRAISES IF YOU CAN PRODUCE LIKE THE SUPERSTAR PLAYER YOU ARE CLAIMED TO BE.

  48. ATrain Says:

***********THE ATRAIN HAS THROWN DOWN THE CHALLENGE *********

  49. Bucsfanman Says:

Yep, it’s GMC’s fault. He’s the reason we are perennial losers. Clearly everybody else on the defense is doing such a great job!
By the way, has anybody seen Lavonte lately? His jersey is on the field but he’s nowhere to be found. Oh wait, we’re only allowed to call out one player on defense!
    Yaaaaaawwwwwwwnnnnn!
    Go Bucs!

  50. JMN Says:

We have been a losing team for how many odd years with GMC on the roster. If we got rid of him, we wouldn’t notice much of a difference because he is not a game changer. Still be a losing team. Also, the difference between Sapp and GMC is that Sapp would put Favre on his back. We’ll see if GMC puts Ryan on his back tonight. I’m going to venture out and say he does not.

  51. JMN Says:

And I would love nothing more than for GMC to prove me completely wrong on my doubts about him. I want to eat crow. To this day, he has yet to do so.

  52. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

The bottom line is: if u put virtually anyone else in the league in GMC’s spot, our D gets worse.

Case closed. STFU about GMC being a weak link, please.

  53. DB55 Says:

You wanna see lavonte? Go to the 3rd qrt 6:58 and tell me that’s not the sickest tackle ever. At least I think that the correct mark he made so many splash plays on Sunday it’s hard to keep track.

Watch the tape folks, watch the tape.

    Hey Joe
did you look at 2nd qrt 13:33? Was anyone “completely and totally owned” on this play or was it just when Spence played? Lmao, lol, smh.

  54. DB55 Says:

    Idk Erik,

McDonald did a damn good job against Denver, outstanding in fact. And we won the Carolina game in his absence. I’d be curious to know how many of the 12 victories we’ve amassed in the last 3 years have been won without GMC. Anybody got numbers on that? I’m sure it’s 0 if any.

  55. Bucsfanman Says:

@DB55- Great tackle! Did it change the game? How about the slow-as-molasses TE that got behind him for the big play? Where is he in coverage? Where were those “game-changing” plays from LVD in the 4th quarter? WE didn’t stop the Raiders at almost any point in that game. They stopped themselves.
LVD’s not changing the game either. This is a team game, right?
I don’t have to watch the tape DB to know that our ENTIRE defense stunk!!! EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!
But, it must be GMC’s fault, has to be!

@Erik- No, no, no! GMC “loves losing”. He HAS to go!!! SMH

  56. Chris Says:

Yes Tmax, there are two Chris’s . This one here still has no love for the smiling ice cream man. I go back to the time he questioned Schiano on playing to the whistle and apologizing the Giants for crashing the kneel down. Tissue paper soft and epitomizes this team.

  57. Chris Says:

Moderating….. questioning McCoy, I always get moderated for comments on him. Must be cause he’s so dang snugly and always a smile and a quote for the press.

  58. JonBuc Says:

GMC did hold on to Ryan’s ankle for dear life last year to help close out a win…so there’s that. It might be time to offer the 160 million dollar man an extension to ensure he’s a Buc for life!

  59. Bucsfanman Says:

@Chris- Anytime you use the word “snugly” when referring to football, you SHOULD be moderated!!!
Are we better with him or without him? Before you answer, it’s rhetorical!

  60. DB55 Says:

You know who else earns their contract? Brock Osweiller.

  61. Pit Says:

GMC is a nice person good teammate. Has potential to be great but missing character. He is missing the “it” that Joe used to talk so much about.

He better get his sh*t together and break Matty ice in half.

  62. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

LeRoy was one of the nicest guys you’d meet.

  63. Bucsfanman Says:

@Bonzai- Amen to that brother! I had the pleasure of meeting him several times throughout my brief stint on this Earth. In my opinion, the greatest Buc of ALL TIME!

  64. cmurda Says:

Are you sure you weren’t talking about Daryl Smith on the coverage when their TE had a big catch? D Smith has been slow as molasses. I disagree about Lavonte. He’s been solid. It’s our other LB, Kwon, that I haven’t been impressed with. I have confidence in him but maintaining his gap control and staying honest with his positioning has not been happening with kwon. It’s led to huge gashes by opposing RB’s.

  65. DB55 Says:

    Bucsfan

You mean the 2yard pass play LVD gave up to Rivera the TE on 3rd causing a punt? Yea that play was terrible!

  66. Pit Says:

I have this idea at 3pm we stop talking sh*t about our players and talk only positive till the game starts.

  67. ATrain Says:

HEY ERIC you do realize that McCoy is THIRD in Tackles on the line RIGHT>>>

    THIRD out of four starters..

  68. Bucsfanman Says:

Wait, you’re right cmurda. My bad. Hear that DB? Still, did LVD’s play change the game? Nope!
His and their play was terrible. Look, you’re reaching DB. To my knowledge Carr threw for 500+ yards and his team committed THE MOST penalties in NFL history. By accident we should’ve had more big plays! That goes for ALL ELEVEN players on the field.

  69. Bucsfanman Says:

    @Pit- I will abide by your 3pm rule. I’m a fan.

  70. Chris Says:

Because fans should only say positive things about their team that invents new embarrassing ways of losing. Bucfan, snugly comment, sarcasm . We shouldn’t pick on your one tackle dominant DT game changer that allows his defense to me stomped on and p…ssed on . But he is a nice guy, and he loves Matt Ryan and he loves Derek Carr, too bad he doesn’t love his own qb that gave home a 7 point lead with 3 minutes left

  71. iamkingsu Says:

What’s the big deal about him?? He’s been the best player on some really bad defenses so what??

  72. DB55 Says:

I’m reaching bc I pointed out a great play by LVD? Then you were corrected by cmurda but I’m reaching, okay?!?!?

It’s all good bucsfan I always say if you don’t have haters you’re doing it wrong. So ty my friend. Ty

  73. Warrenfb12 Says:

I know the Joes are always going to defend McCoy, and he’s a good player, but I think he’s part of the personality problem in the locker room. Shut up and make some plays man. Tired of you disappearing when we are playing big physical d lines. I like a Noah Spence/ Robert Ayers approach.

  74. Wes Says:

I love GMC and have no issues with him. I lately have begun to question though whether or not we should begin thinking about trading him down the road. I can’t recall if he’s ever played 16 games, maybe once. And he is 28, which is still young thankfully.

But what I fear is that we aren’t a good team until he starts coming out of his prime, which would be just a horrible waste of time. I’m going to feel the same way about Doug Martin in the next year or 2

  75. duthsty rhothdes Says:

Take GMC off this team you will not notice any difference he has been on team that has averaged 6 wins/year since 2010…How about you say you hate the falcons and you want this win as a push towards playoffs and shut up about matt ryan, because it seems if you have a shot to put him out of the game legally, youd hold up, #99 the QB KILLA never held up ask steve young

  76. Bucsfanman Says:

So, there you go, have your moment. I’m no hater but you’re welcome anyway!
Now, what I meant was here you are defending LVD, right? He had a few plays, right? Derrick Brooks-like plays? Game-changing plays? Well, not exactly.
You constantly rip GMC for not being Sapp-like, not making game-changing plays. LVD is immune? All I’m saying/ My point is: This is a TEAM game. You single out one player but not the rest. You want to levy criticism, criticize ALL. Especially that freaking debacle of a game!
I’m not even that big of a McCoy fan but it’s really irritating that we have team meltdowns at almost every position and the best you can come up with is GMC, GMC, GMC…… 11 players. There are 11 players.

  77. Architek Says:

I don’t like him but I don’t hate him. Personally speaking I will be glad when his Tampa days are done because I’m tired of the defenders and tired of the hate.

He’s a good player and that’s pretty much it.

  78. DB55 Says:

GMC is the supposed leader and when you make 1 tackle in 80+ snap you leave yourself open to critism. Life sucks, I know.

At this point I simply enjoy the banter with the posters. I think you guys are funny. GMC is neither here nor there. He don’t care, I don’t care, it’s whatever.

  79. Big HogHaynes Says:

Maybe we should hold GMC out untill the fourth quarter, if that’s the only time to make a play that makes a difference! I’m beginning to challenge your football knowledge! STUPID!

  80. duthsty rhothdes Says:

Licht and all his “smartest guy in the room” BS, well be the kooky pick a kicker GM now and get rid of GMC and try and get a #1, mccoy doesnt help this team as it is currently built and his loser mentality permeates, GMC needs to check out some the play of the lightning how they leave it all out there and want to win and not make friends until the offseason

  81. Warren Says:

Dude seriously worst fan base in the NFL…bunch of crybabies. Go Bucs!! Kick some Dirty Bird tail feathers tonight!

  82. Lamarcus Says:

    Joe,

It’s not cuz he is a nice guy it’s because of he is the best rated buc defender (by his peers?) on some of the worst horrendous defenses I have ever seen. My eyes do not lie. He don’t care what the fans think for crying out loud. He probably being nice on purpose. And most importantly loser mentality. I want this dt gone off my team and upgrade .
