Fluke Or Pattern?

November 17th, 2016
Solid job.

Solid job.

The offense of the Bucs was ugly early this season.

In fact, with so many injuries to skill position players and America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, being sloppy with the ball, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter went damn near caveman with the offense.

Something since has clicked. Since Week 7, the Bucs offense has been humming, averaging 30.5 points a game. It is the fifth-best in the NFL during that time period.

To Joe, this speaks to the job Koetter has done with the offense. If he is able to mold a solid offense with mostly spare parts from a junkyard the way he has, that’s one whale of a job.

Again. LOVE me some koetter! Yah. Just think what he could do with another stud tackle, receivers and tight end. I mean injuries have decimated this offense . Most teams don’t have to worry about a fourth/fifth running back to lead team. Funny how people on site State he is no good / to conservative. It’s like he was asked to go to war with a B B gun.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Gottschalk, Benenoch, Martino, Humphries & Brate……UDFAs & low draft picks coming together to produce an effective offense….and, Oh…..Jameis helped too.

    A total team victory…..feels good.
Isn’t it about time we start talking about KC?……or have we already lost that game?
If we can somehow beat a very good team in their house, I’m a believer.

  3. Dreambig Says:

TBBF – Love the optimism but I am not too hopeful this week. Unless the football gods truely smile on us, we don’t have all the pieces to beat a team like KC that is playing as well as they are. That’s why I won’t be panicking on Monday calling for Koetter or Smith’s head, calling Jameis a bust or anything like that. We are most likely going to get beat and some on the team will look ugly in the process. Now if we win, that will be really special and a signal we have turned the corner but I don’t think we are that good yet and I am not putting much emotional capital into this one.

  4. Doctor Stroud Says:

Coach Koetter is once again a breath of fresh air like a cool breeze flowing with all of the doors and windows open.

  5. Rrsrq Says:

Looking forward to KCC game, just not sure if our receivers can either get open or contest with their DB’s on tight throws, with the exception of Evans but you can be sure Peters will be all over him. Running game has to get going, Chiefs have a lot of injuries on defense front seven, but are still dangerous

  6. mike n Says:

i would say fluke over pattern. 24 points in 5 quarters vs. raiders and 2 garbage tds vs Atl and then we score 30 plus over 2 of the worst teams. We have kc and the seahawks, so we will know if we are any good soon.

  7. BigHogHaynes Says:

I got my foot on the brakes…..cause we are definitely an up&down team! 7 games to play with 5 games to win to show improvement over the last REGIME! Go BUCS Go COLIN WE LOVE YOU ANYWAY MIKE STEP/UP AMERICA NOT MY PRESIDENT!!

  8. Bucsfanman Says:

It’s hard to determine where we’re at because we have not been consistent as a TEAM. Offensively we knew this was the stronger half of the team.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We were 6-10 last year…..we only have 3 games to win to show improvement.

  10. Warrenfb12 Says:

I think he is excellent with his game plans and flexibility. When were pulling people off the scrap heap at skill positions, Koetter came out with his “caveman” offense. A lot of faith in Koetter as a coach. Glazers need to give him more than a couple of years IMO.

  11. Doolnutts Says:

I remain very excited about Koetter, this roster still needs some help but they still remain competitive more often then not. Year two will definitely yield tremendous improvement on both offense and defense as the offense will be going into year 3 with Koetter and defense year 2 under Smith.

If anything I just want some consistency on this team and a chance to watch something develop… Switching coaches every two years is really getting old, there is no quick fix coach in the NFL.

    To put things in perspective:

    Pete Carrolls first three seasons
    2010 7-9
    2011 7-9
    2012 11-5

    Bill Belichick first three seasons
    2000 5-11
    2001 11-5
    2002 9-7

    TONY DUNGY first three seasons
    1996 6-10
    1997 10-6
    1998 8-8

In other words those complaining right now take a deep breath… Lets let it all develop and then make our judgments.

  12. LakeLandBuc Says:

This team has been a FLUKE for the pass 10 years ( minus 2010). 5 straight years as a Bottom Feeder and Dirk Koetter pads the team stats during garbage time. Last season we finish the season losing our last 4 games. 2014 lost the 6. 2013 lost 4 of the last 5. 2012 lost 5 of the last 6. 2011 lost the last 10. 2009 lost 6 of the last 8. 2008 lost the last 4. 2007 lost 4 of the last 5 games ( including the wild card game). 2006 lost 5 of the last 6. It’s both Fluke and Pattern. We are a Fluke team with a Pattern of losing, this season is no different.

  13. KY Buc Fan Says:

I’m with you 100% Doolnutts!!! I believe if Koetter is allowed to develop this team we can be really good!

  14. The Buc Realist Says:

Those in the know can see the difference in coaching this year!!!!! Bucs football has been exciting to watch this year!!!!! With Schemes that work and adjust, we can really see where the talent actually is and how it is being brought along!!!!! We can now see what this roster needs to complete the team as the “real core” matures!!!!! The culture is slowly starting to change!!!! and the lovie is being coach out of some of the players, and those that can’t will be replaced!!!!!! And Coach Smitty is as big of an upgrade over coach my scheme as Head Coach Koetter are arroyo!!!!!!!

The most exciting thing is that the same scheme’s and coaching staff will be back next year!!!!! and not the constant change of coordinators we saw under lovie with coaching changes, coordinators and wanting defensive advisers to add more voices in these poor players heads!!!!!

It took lovie 21 games to win 4!!!!! Improvement Indeed!!!!!!!!

    Go America!!!!!!!

    Go BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. University of Seffner Says:

Inconsistency is part of growing pains. Simple as that. The more time the coaching staff stays in Tampa, the growing pains will fade out.

  16. buccfan305 Says:

II can honestly so that I love my Bucs more than alot of things on this earth, but I’m not sold on us being a team ready to compete until we can beat a quality opponent. All the teams we’ve beaten this year have a loosing record except Atlanta. And when you play teams with loosing records, you are expected to win. We have some pretty tuff games coming up here in the next few weeks, and if We can get lthrough half of them without me throwing a cold beer through my TV screen then I’ll think we are ready to compete.I just hope that all the young talent that has had to step up with all the injuries continues to develop. Low draft picks and Undrafted FA have looked pretty decent so far.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  17. 813bucboi Says:

im calling fluke….during that time we’ve played the 49ers(1-7) and bears (2-6)…we got smoked by the falcons and lost to the raiders after they committed an nfl record 22 penalties while throwing for 500+yards….

we have yet to beat a quality team and have gotten blown out 3times this year….the only difference in this year is that we have more defensive talent but we still have a losing record…and it aint because of a tough schedule….we had a similar schedule in 2010….

as far as defensive I cant tell a difference….cb’s still playing 10yards off the ball, LVD still M.I.A. most of the time, no pass rush….the defense only looks good vs. teams under .500….we still get untimely penalties…as of lat teams have been able to run the ball on us too…

everything is about the same and in some cases seem to have regressed….a win vs the chief and seahawks would change my opinion….beat those 2 teams and our remaining division opponents and i’ll start to see the light….until then….DIRK=JIM TOMSULA…GO KAP…GO BUCS!!!!

  18. 813bucboi Says:

fyi:….when we played atl week1, everyone in the NFL was 0-0….nobody was over or under .500 week1 in the nfl…..so technically, we haven’t beaten a team above .500…..GO BUCS!!!

  19. Kobe Faker Says:

Is koetter the clown going to make adjustments or change anything with dotson and dsmith? Whats with the constant penalties and breakdowns?

They will be going against studs dee ford and houston

Where is the coaching and adjustments because we cant win against good teams without shooting ourselves

  20. McBuc Says:

Funny, so we have not beat a team with a winning record, well, we don’t have a winning record either. It takes time, and the Bucs seem to be turning the corner. Big deal they hav not beaten a team with more wins than losses, they don’t pick the schedule, and all NFL teams can win at any given time.

  21. LakeLandBuc Says:

I’m gonna say Fluke until they prove me wrong. I want this team to win, but I have no faith in them. They have to restore my faith in them, they have disappointed me too many times. I don’t see it this season, we have too many holes to fill.

  22. Lord Cornelius Says:

This is just like that time when Tomsula’s 49ers were averaging over 30 PPG for a 4 game stretch…

Oh wait; they never scored more than 30 points in a single game and averaged 14 ppg for the season. What a terrible comparison. Who would even think of that?

    813bucboi = JIM TROLLSULA
    GO BUCS!!!

  23. Lord Cornelius Says:

“as far as defensive I cant tell a difference….cb’s still playing 10yards off the ball, LVD still M.I.A. most of the time, no pass rush…”

    lmfao

We played a ton of press coverage against the Bears. Grimes was in press on his interception. And we had a pass rush… And the Bears O-line isn’t some joke.. but keep trollsula’ing my friend

  24. 813bucboi Says:

the bears have one of the worst olines in the league….that is why cutler sees ghost every game…..

pretty easy to have a good defensive performance vs. a 2-6 1-7 team….VERY EASY TO RUN UP THE SCORE ON A LOUSY TEAM….just ask the falcons AND arz…

even tomsula won 5 games my friends….

    DIRK=JIM TOMSULA…GO KAP…GO BUCS!!!!

  25. 813bucboi Says:

cant deny facts pal….we’re under .500, witnessed 3 blowout loses and haven’t beaten a quality team yet….he’s right on track for the JIM TOMSULA AWARD….DIRK=JIM TOMSULA….GO KAP…GO BUCS!!!!

  26. Buccfan37 Says:

I don’t see this game as a blowout by either side. Close game is my guess. The Bucs will make a good showing. Go Bucs!!!

  27. Buccfan37 Says:

A smidgen of a pattern developing I say. That in itself is cause for optimism.

  28. The Buc Realist Says:

Solid job indeed!!! Too bad some cannot tell the difference between last year’s failures in so many areas and how the good coaches we have now are fixing all those mistakes from the mess!!!! Lots to be excited about again in Buc Land!!!! And don’t worry if you are one of the ones that cannot see it, If you go to the stadium, just like mike evans, we will tell you when to stand up and cheer for this team!!!!

It took lovie 21 games to get to 4 wins!!!! Improvement indeed!!!!!!

    GO America!!!!!!!!!

    And Go BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. 813bucboi Says:

we have the same exact record as we did around this time last year….big difference is we didn’t see 3 blowouts and a qb throw for 500+yards….improvement indeed….SMDH….DIRK=JIM TOMSULA….GO KAP…GO BUCS!!!!

  30. Piratic Says:

@813bucboi: Get your head out of your BigHogHaynes.

  31. BigHogHaynes Says:

Improvement means in this case, the team getting better, bottom line in this industry you can’t be a 6 win team one year and go out and win 6 games the next season and tell me that there has been improvement, we are run on “up the gut” at will and when we face the above average Wide/outs of this league we get brunt more than the famous Jenkins & Jennings TOAST BROTHERS from last year, this Better Coaching Mantra is just not showing up where it counts, but I will be one to hold them accountable, LOVIE won 6 games last year without a defensive draft for 2 years! In comes the ALL WORLD FANDANGO COACHING STAFF with a defensive draft, better talent brought in as “bridge players” whatever that means, but where is the improvement, 9 wins will put me in check, it can be done we still have 2 games against New Orleans but them Cowboys just might make us pack it up early! NOT MY PRESIDENT! BANNON THE BIGOT! STEP/UP AMERICA!!
