“I’ve Got To Do Better”

October 30th, 2016
Falls on sword.

Falls on sword.

The Bucs played like a complete and total mess for much of the fourth quarter and into overtime.

Defense turned into a sieve. The offense played like they were in a swamp. America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, was, at best, erratic.

Joe hasn’t seen anyone crap their pants like that since Joe walked through a maternity ward.

Don’t go pointing fingers at the offense, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said. While he was quick to say who played well and who did not in his postgame presser, the buck stops on his desk, Koetter said.

“We didn’t really move it much all day, other than a couple of times when we got in a little bit of rhythm but we didn’t really move it well all day,” Koetter said. “I’ve got to help [Jameis]. I’ve got to call [a game] better. I’ve got to find a way to get us in [the end zone]. I’ve got to do better.”

While Joe doesn’t disagree with what Koetter said, here is where Joe and Koetter part ways. Koetter is sort of a player’s guy. When he was asked if the Bucs are simply running out of reliable weapons due to injuries, he flatly said no.

Joe doesn’t buy that for one second. There is a reason Freddie Martino plays a keyboard in a velvet-lined lounge at the Vero Beach Ramada Inn. There is a reason why Cecil Shorts was unemployed in September. There is a reason why Antone Smith was groveling for work until a couple of weeks ago. There is a reason why the Bucs at one point cut Peyton Barber. You can’t tell Joe these guys were or are as good as Vincent Jackson, Louis Murphy or tweety huge bowel movement ASJ.

If they were, they wouldn’t be on the Bucs roster because they wouldn’t have been unemployed.

So glad we didn’t draft a
    Wideout and instead a
    Kicker with our 2

  2. stpetebucsfan Says:

Yeah Destin Johnny because THAT would have really made a difference in this game.

So are you saying the drafted wideout would have made a better catch than the spectacular effort Shep made on that TD grab.

Are you suggesting that a rookie WR would have been able to catch those deep balls #3 overthrew to two wide open receivers?

Gawd you guys are like whiny little beotches. You disagree with a draft choice and then continue to pile on…even with stupidity like another receiver would have changed today’s game!!! Get over yourselves. We get it. Hindsight is 20/20 and now that Roberto Ohnono is struggling you want to rub it in.
    Great fans!!!

How about all those missed tackles by Kwon…where was our OL…why not call out Licht on that? Some of you live to bust his chops so rock on!!!

  3. Fire the glazers Says:

THIS IS JUST PLAIN HORSE CRAP! I am sick and tired of watching this team lose. How dare the glazer boys ask season ticket holders to pay a 30% increase from last season when they CANT EVEN WIN A GAME IN TAMPA. Screw this man. I am sick, physically, and mentally exhausted from this team that plays like they don’t belong in this league more often than not. Start winning… or we WILL BE the old yucs, the new browns, the lions of 2008. Pick your favorite awful team and that is us…

  4. Brian Says:

How deep do you expect teams to be? Jesus H. They are down two starting wr, three rb, were down three dl. What exactly are you expecting as it relates to talent on the roster at those depths? It’s unrealistic

  5. Chucklehead Says:

Just depressing. Hard, hard loss to stomach.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I agree with Koetter…..he needs to do better. His playcalling late in the game and overtime was too conservative and predictable. The run game was dead yet he kept going with it….especially 1st & 10.
    Where were the screens…..
I agree, our WRs can’t seem to get open….I mean, look at theirs….it wasn’t just our poor secondary which hasn’t really been that bad.

But, the best playcalling and best weapons can’t compensate for an inaccurate passer….and that’s what we had today.

  7. EA Says:

They are getting depleted no question about it, remember the old Gruden sound bite ” I have no more backs”.
Like Joe asked Koetter in the presser ” How in the world you expect this team with the amount of snaps the D played out there today and no RBs to turn around an win a game on Thursday night”.

  8. DB55 Says:

    1. Read option
    2. Improve pass protection
    3. Get more than 1 tackle from your All-world million $ captain
    4. Explain how Jude is better than Banks.
    5. ME I love ya but would it kill you to dive for a pass?

  9. Tampa Tony Says:

Hey coach how about a pass on first down? Or are you too scared of #3 turning it over?

Glazers seem to continually hire the wrong coaches

  10. CalBucsFan Says:

Disgusting play calling. Seems all passes are always to the wide receivers (Evans, Evans and Evans again). Why aren’t more passes going to the tight ends, especially Brate? When ASJ was on the sidelines watching, it was because Brate was playing big. And what about some screens to the backs instead of always running up the middle on first down?

I thought Koetter was an offensive “guru”, maybe he needs to start acting like one!

  11. iamkingsu Says:

When are you’ll going to start to blame Licht?? VJax missed how many games last year?? Add to the fact he’s an aging receiver. Louis Murphy tore his ACL so at best he was going to be 75 percent of himself. It takes a whole year after coming back and playing to be your old self. So I don’t know why everyone’s clamoring for him.

  12. mike10 Says:

All that is nice Joe but there isn’t a 10 foot tall receiver out there that could catch the ducks Jameis was throwing today

  13. Eric Says:

Beat Atlanta or this thing could unravel Dirk.

Just does not look like a well coached or prepared football team.

  14. LargoBuc Says:

Of course the defense turned into a sieve. Look at how long they were on the field! Not to mention the Raiders offense is damn good.
And Koetter, for his rookie mistakes, is refreshing compared to listening to Lovie bull spit us after every game.

  15. Tbbucs3 Says:

Winston is a GUNSLINGER. Dirk Koetter is running an offense that doesn’t fit Jameis, too many run plays on first down are putting us in a hole. Let Jameis drop back and sling it like Big Ben does. It’s hard for qbs to get in a rhythm when your offense is run run pass. I cannot wait for Doug Martin to be back.

  16. DallasBuc Says:

Classic chicken salad expectations when your idiot wannabe savant delivers chicken sht.
Funny we haven’t heard of idiot jumping in pools fully clothed. For the best really

  17. BJ Rassam Says:

That was a game that the Bucs could have easily won.

  18. iamkingsu Says:

Did you see what Schwartz just dialed up??

  19. 911bucs Says:

Yes the offense went a little stagnant, but 24 points were put up which should have been enough to get the win, The unacceptable part was the 500 plus yards Carr put up on this defense. Just embarrassing.

  20. LargoBuc Says:

Big Ben had a very strong running game early in his career. It helped cover some of his weakness’. It took Big Ben years to become the prolific passer he is today.
BTW, I can’t believe Martin is still out. At the latest he was supposed to be back by the San Fran game. I know hamstrings can linger, but this is troubling.

  21. cmurda Says:

We had the luck of stayng healthy in the late 90’s and early 200’s. The glory days. We’ve been cursed with injuries since then. In key positions we are 2 and 3 guys down. I can’ knock the roster completely. I mean, I understand we can’t squeeze blood out of a turnip. I have a problem with our D Coordinator. The problem I have is I don’t think he has what it takes to run a quality defense. Schwartz was there for the taking. I watched VH3 get roasted all day and get no help. I also had to watch an inept D Line predictably get no pressure.

  22. LargoBuc Says:

The Raiders only had one more drive than us. Yet they got of 85 plays to our 61, offensively. They had 600 yards to our 200. We had 18 first downs and 6, or 33 percent, came by a Raider penalty.
This offense is bad. And it’s not just Jameis missing receivers, it’s not just guys not getting open, it’s not just lack of a run game, it’s not just iffy playcalling. It’s everything. One imperfect storm. The silver lining being that this offense is young and has a chance to grow, assuming the Glazers don’t pull the trigger too soon.

  23. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Carson Wentz is a bust, he didn’t lead his team to victory in over time. LMFAO. Some of u guys on here with the winston = bust coments sound just like that

  24. iamkingsu Says:

Sure UP that Oline. Find a Center got d@mn it.

  25. LakeLandBuc Says:

The Raiders had more penalties yards than the Bucs had in passing yards. 200 to 180. Just saying

  26. Bucsfan Says:

I don’t know but when you draft a qb number 1 overall and head two he is suppose to improve can you blame dirk for not trusting Jamis. The one game he doesn’t throw a Ininterception yet when the game matters he cant put together a drive he had the ball twice in overtime he missed a 3 yard throw qhich led to a punt and another loss

  27. j dubb Says:

Take shep off a pitch count on offense for the sake of special teams, in his limited opportunities he is making plays on offense, maybe if we featured him more often than 30 snaps we wouldnT have to worry as much about him being a gunner cuz we might get some first downs and points and less punting.

  28. Ray Rice Says:

    * David Carr often looks like the best young quarterback in the league, but the Bucs helped him out Sunday with a feeble pass rush that generated only two sacks and three hits while Carr was dropping back 61 times. Anybody seen Gerald McCoy?
    …………………………………………………………………………………….

    Anyone care to argue with Ira? I know I don’t. #AuntGeraldine #HoudiniGeraldini

  29. Blackmagic00 Says:

Ever wonder if maybe this franchise is just simply cursed? YEAR in and year out its the same exact story. Paper champion in the off season, draft champion and crap the bed when games count. EVERY year. Sometimes I wonder if someone is mad at this team or if it’s some kind of Indian burial ground under these stadiums. Then I start to woder if chucky or malcolm sold their souls to the devil for a superbowl win. HOW does a franchise have so much talent (and yes, we do, and have for years) constantly find ways to lose? It’s mind boggling. I don’t blame one person in the building, I blame them all!!!! They ALL need to step up and decide to be the Patriots of the NFC south.

Watching today’s game, I started wondering what the heck is going through everyones mind. From Winston and his high throws to our kicker missing a chipshot and our defense who I can understand being tired, yet didn’t find that after tired adrenaline to get this done.

When do we ever hear from the Glazier family that something will actually get better past firing and hiring?

I don’t know, for me? I’M tired. I’ll admit I’ve only been a Buc fan since 97, but I bleed pewter and red, and I’m just sick to my stomach watching this team let nobody’s and the bad franchises walk all over us.

Just think and put this in perspective. ……..our opponent had almost 200 yards in penalties, with almost every imagineagle type of penalty. ………….AND FREAKING WON THE DAMN GAME!!!!!!!

  30. unbelievable Says:

Does JW need more weapons? Sure.

Would these weapons be able to catch a pass that is 8 yards overthrown? No.

Koetter needs to figure out he can still have a strong running game without running on every single damn 1st down.

@Joe, can you please start holding DK accountable for his playing not to lose mentality?

As soon as we go up by 7, we start playing not to lose instead of playing to win. This part of the reason why Lovie Smith was fired. Quit being a pu$$y Dirk!

  31. unbelievable Says:

Oh, and Jameis has to play wayyyyyyy better. This was a bad defense. Raiders did everything possible to give us that game.

    Pathetic effort.

  32. Pit Says:

I think the Glazers are the cursed ones. Look at Manchester United they are sucking so bad and they invested so much money there.

Maybe just maybe we need a new owner…… Should we start a donation campaign and see if we can buy the team from them???

And then assign Joe to manage the team.

  33. Blackmagic00 Says:

@PIT. Spot on. Someone needs to explain to these guys that they need to sell and start selling cars or something. Their dad was good and they’re not! AND being a Buc fan in California is hard enough without them. Damn I miss Alstot and Sapp and Barber and lynch

  34. Blackmagic00 Says:

I evenjoyed miss the score 17 and let us do the rest. Our d needs to step up and say we’ll hold them to 17 you do the rest. And the Glaziers need to say we’ll sell for 17 and please take this franchise to the top.

  35. Blackmagic00 Says:

As I look at our roster and rosters of years past, I can’t help but put blame straight at the Glaziers. It’s ridiculous. I know they d ok everything they can to build a great team, but at some point they need to realize they’ve done everything they know. Maybe they need to leave one brother in charge of each thing? I don’t know. WHEN you lose to a raiders team who set an NFL record for penalties, it’s time to look in the mirror and ask yourself WTF?!?!?! BUC FOR LIFE AND TIRED OF LOSING!

  36. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Licht has done mostly good work thus far as GM, especially in the draft, but that Aguayo pick was horrendous. Two wasted picks on a position that wasn’t even a real need. No value in that pick whatsoever. If he takes a WR and TE or maybe a talented backup RB with those picks the Bucs win today, period. That moronic decision to draft a kicker so high will be on his resume forever, because those inept decisions are the ones that cost your team the ability to compete. Licht over-thought that decision, got too cute and ended up dropping a huge deuce all over the Bucs 2016 draft and 2016 season because of it. What a blockhead.

  37. evolvingBucfan Says:

Offense is too predictable right now, they’re scared to mix it up and be up tempo, what was that first drive in OT 3 and out ??that was horrible, i didn’t see any adjustments that a good team will do (Oakland made them) that 3 and out is where i saw this offense lose hope, you could see it in their face and our defense was beat up and drained was getting picked apart, popbably since being out there most of the 4th qtr and OT. Carr did to us what a surgeon did to Micheal Jacksons face. To me all of our problems are more mental than physical.

  38. Steve Rosenkranz Says:

Pathetic effort by defense and offense! Long time fan, so I have seen some ugly football, but this was an gruesome to watch. Have not seen a home win in my last 8 games over 3 years. The Bucs heritage for strong defense is gone!

AMEN, especially #4! The Clazer Boys have got to let the team stabilize by keeping DK for 3 years at least! He’s a rookie head coach fer Petessake!! Del Rio ain’t! We came very close to beating this bunch, walking wounded, rookies, and all. Ye gods, our so-called “fan” sites are embarrassing with all the trolls and fake fans!
