“That Was Dumb On My Part”

Jameis describes his choice on the final play of the game “dumb.” (Photo courtesy of Buccaneers.com)

The final play of the game. Mere seconds left; four to be exact.

Ball is on the Rams-15. America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, in shotgun, takes the snap. He looks, steps left, looks, steps left. Looks. Steps left. Jameis kept edging toward the left.

Virtually everyone in the stadium and watching on TV was screaming “Run, run, run!” Fans had memories of Jameis running for 20 tough yards last year at home against the Dixie Chicks on fourth down to pick up a critical first down dancing in their heads.

Yet Jameis still stepped left. Still looked downfield. Pretty soon he was well past the line of scrimmage but was still looking to throw.

After the game, Jameis all but admitted he should have run. He claims he was not under orders to pass only. Jameis said he kept floating left and left and left to try to buy his receivers time in order to get open.

Yet he looked back and offered maybe he should have run.

“That was dumb on my part,” Jameis said.

Probably.

It never shoula come down to that…

    GO FCUK YOURSELF AGUAYO!!!

  2. I know why Says:

Nope the problem was the Head Football Coach letting time run out while we still had 2 Timeouts left, sorry Winston, not on you…

  3. Buck Rodgers Says:

No one is talking about the miss use of the Timeouts on the final drive. Should have taken a timeout with about 40 seconds left instead of holding the timeouts till the end. It would have opened up throws in the middle of the field to get closer. Instead you have to take 4 shots from the 17! WTF

  4. TheBucsAnthem Says:

You can tell when you look at Crab Leg’s face……..he’s getting frustrated more than ever now…….he’s not having fun anymore

he want’s to win…..but we have lack of offensive players and it seems like the offense doesn’t have any fire or fight in the them

they look like a bunch of players playing to NOT lose……….

  5. BucsFan90 Says:

400+ yards, 3 tds.. you can’t expect more from a 2nd year QB. I blame this loss on Dirk Koetter, Jason Licht and Mike Smith.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

TheBucsAnthem …..I don’t see that in the offense.

  7. Ben the GA Buc Says:

That’s the only dumb thing he did today. Unfortunately, timing is everything.

  8. This Guy Right Here Says:

    BucsAnthem,

Put your face back inbetween your mothers legs, and just breathe…

    Taste it, and just breathe…

  9. Blake_BucsFan Says:

I was in that stadium tonight Joe, And everyone including me was thoroughly confused as to why we were not using our time outs on that drive, we literally let 20 plus seconds run off the clock. Could have made the difference. Also on a side note, it took Ten freaking minutes after they called the lightning delay for the bad weather to even move in. So that was Bogus af and also killed our Offensive momentum. All in all we suck and are losers. Another season of losing and heartbreak lay ahead of us. And It really hurts.

  10. Ben the GA Buc Says:

    BucsAnthem ….

What offense are you watching? It’s not the Bucs. This offense has no quit and is taking on the mentality of its leader.

The defense isn’t quite there yet. Maybe you got defense and offense mixed up?

  11. wesley Says:

Mike Smith and some crappy defensive personnel are to blame. And don’t forget that crappy kicker.

  12. Strider ....Sec 147 Says:

It’s all good man we gonna be great once it clicks for this team and that switch is going to turn on very soon … believe that

  13. Tampa Tony Says:

All those over throws were pretty dumb too

  14. This Guy Right Here Says:

Our D gives up 30+ like they just got off the phone with Lovie…

  15. LovieBall Says:

There were 8 defenders in the endzone. My god. You people.

  16. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Not your fault Jameis. When the defense gives up 30 points it’s tough to win. When the kicker leaves four points on the field its tough. When we have penalty after penalty at crucial moments it’s tough. I believe in Jameis. That fumble returned for touchdown? Winstons gets creamed, smashed in the grass, gets up and runs as fast as he possibly can all the way to the end zone. This kid has more heart and determination than any buccaneer since R. Barber. When the rest of the roster is full of guys like Jameis we’ll win… This roster still is infected with mostly losers.

  17. Chris Says:

You’re right BigPoppa, only dam player giving chase, where’s the receivers, end, te, no one other than him chasing a damn d lineman 80 yards, and Jameis isn’t the fastest guy on our offense, tells you who has heart and who doesn’t

  18. This Guy Right Here Says:

MIKE SMITH, ROBERT AGUAYO, & VINCENT JACKSON,

    WHAT THE FCUK???

  19. Bucsalltheway Says:

Say what y’all want conte, hargreaves and Alexander are the only bucs playing to win on defense. Everyone else needs to get it together.

  20. Tampa Tony Says:

Rookie QB’s playing for other teams are much more accurate and make better decisions than our supposed franchise qb.

First year head coaches can fix other franchises but not the Bucs it’s just our culture and history

  21. I know why Says:

    Did Noah Spence dress tonight?

  22. grafikdetail Says:

don’t just blame aguayo for this loss!!! 2 TOs costed the 14 points!!! Simms dropped pass for an INT at the Bucs 20 cost the Bucs 7 points… Winston holding onto the ball too long inside the Ram’s 20 resulting in a fumble returned for a TD cost the Bucs 3 to 7 points and gave the Rams 7 points… Jackson dropping the ball at the 9 yard line… and what really may have cost the game the most: Koetter not calling a timeout after the Sims catch for a 1st down cost the Bucs 20 plus seconds… more time on the clock Winston is probably would’ve took off knowing he had more time on the clock and probably would still be running LOL but less rag a kicker SMFH

  23. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m laughing so hard my belly bout to burst! Its my fault, all my fault..It was dumb of me. Yes sir it was. And last weeks performance was dumb also Jameis. How many more dunb performances are we allowed? Not blaming jameis for the loss. he shares butt..Our Defense kinda sucks huh? We let a team who had not scored a TD all season, just run..amouck on us.I betcha they (Rams) laughing all the way home. DOORMAT TAMPA BAY!!! But wait, theres more. Let us bow our heads and pray for the anointed one..coach Koetter. Wasn’t he that guy who was suppose to take us to the promised land? SOB’s (same ole Bucs)!

  24. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    @TampaTony

Rookie QB’s playing for other teams are much more accurate and make better decisions than our supposed franchise qb.

Are you talking Carson Wentz who has played three dogs? What other rookie QB are you talking about who is more accurate and makes better decisions?

Do you just pull your takes out of your posterior or do you have some FACTS to back them up. Jared Goff…a rookie QB that the Rams gave up a ton to move up and take…how’s his accuracy and decisions…oh that’s right the rookie can’t even get on the field.

How about Mariota…please do not tell me you’re a Mariota guy.
So far this season…Mariota has thrown for for 200 less yards…he has 4TD’s and 4 ints to #3’s 8 TD’s and 6 ints. If you’re honest you would realize that one of those int’s was a hail mary at the end of the AZ game…two were balls that bounced off of Sims or knocked out of his hands…one was on a route that VJAX ran wrong…Mariota sacked 6 times…#3 5 times.

Wentz has thrown for 5 TD’s..3 less than #3…his sparkle is simply that he hasn’t been intercepted…YET…Dak Prescott another impressive rookie…no ints and NO TD’s..heading into today.

Aguayo is CHOKING big time. That has to stop. He injured a hammy in practice and we bring in another kicker until a sports shrink can cure Aguayo’s head while he sits on the IR watching.

The edge rush is the other major concern…Jack SMith and Ayers are desperately needed. Spence is a rookie who needs some time.

WR with the VJAX meltdown is still an issue…but Humphries and Brate look like keepers and Myers is an experienced pro…at least Shepherd made a great catch. Maybe he’ll gain some confidence.

We obviously have challenges…but to throw the baby out with the bathwater is just absurd. #3 will be fine.

  25. sho nuff Says:

Love’s “dumb” will take years to get rid of….this is a seriously stupid team…

  26. satchseven Says:

Love’s “dumb” will take years to get rid of….this is a seriously stupid team

bs lovie is gone you got what you asked for deal with it. everybody who knows the nfl knew the bucs were two good drafts away. that is why talking heads said wth?

  27. Tampa Tony Says:

    @St Pete

#3 has 8 TD’s and 8 turnovers in 3 games. His throw today that bounced off Sims hands was an awful decision. He continually over throws open receivers. Then makes awful decisions like how the game ended today. For someone who was pimped as having a high football IQ he’s played dumb during key moments.

Defend him all you want but Wentz or Prescott haven’t turned the ball over to put their team in a bad spot like our QB has. I am a winston fan thought he was the best pick for us. But he just doesn’t learn from his mistakes. He’s very Freeman like on the field

  28. Ana Says:

OMG! So much hate for a kicker( sub par in the NFL) a QB ( more points put up then other Buc’s QBs)! How about calling out the sec

  29. Ana Says:

( part .two) Secondary? You only hear THEIR names called as they’re getting beat long for touchdowns! Who is responsible for that? Also, the Rams’ QB had the cleanest uniform on the field! Simeon, how we miss you!

  30. Jeagan1999 Says:

Players have to make plays! Ours didn’t make the plays we needed to win. It doesn’t get much simpler than that.
