No Wide Receiver Speed

Old Man Time catching up?

Old Man Time catching up?

Yeah, the Bucs have tall receivers. Whoop-tee-do. If you can’t get separation, it doesn’t matter.

Today was a perfect example. Between Mike Evans getting routes squeezed by Patrick Peterson and an aging Vincent Jackson unable to shake coverage, the lack of field-stretching speed from a receiver was more than glaring.

Shoot, there was one pass play called that asked Rudy Humphries to out-run Peterson down the left seam. Um, whoever designed that play needs to go back to the whiteboard. Joe kind of thinks that’s a mismatch, not in Rudy’s favor. Just a hunch.

People wonder why Jameis throws a lot of high passes. That’s the only advantage the Bucs receivers have going against studs like Honey Badger and Peterson. If you can’t get separation, then you have to throw high for your taller receivers to have a shot.

Speed kills. And if you don’t have speed at receiver, that is a killer as well.

    Vjax is finished…. next

  2. Chris Says:

No, he’s had a problem throwing high passes since college. Oh yeah, how’s the second round place kicker pick look now instead of draft deep in receivers?

  3. The Buc Realist Says:

This is a play action offense, Without DM22. the run game was not there and was not respected at all!! And Our Wr are not explosive enough to really get open on their own!!!

2017 Bucs NFL Draft WR,TE, Safety!!!!!

  4. iamkingsu Says:

I bn saying this ish for years. You don’t cut Bell with no speed on your team. At least he got the capability of running fast

  5. NJBucsFan Says:

    JW3=America’s Turnover Machine this week.

  6. dusthty rhothdes Says:

Licht drafting the K to prove he is smartest in the room when bucs desperately need 2 starting safeties and some burner that can catch

  7. The Buc Realist Says:

I said after last week’s game the VJ87 could not get open and did not look right!!!! Now its 2 games and it does not look good at all!!!! This is his last year, and he looks like a shadow of his former self!!!!!!

  8. This Guy Right Here Says:

We shoulda gone WR with our 2nd round pick.

  9. Rico Says:

If we can’t compete against a good team, the season is done. We’ll give the Buccaneers a pass this game–they took a nap… fine. But if we lose this miserably against Carolina on Monday Night Football, that’s a wrap. This city is sick of losers. Start winning meaningful games. Right now.

  10. Joe Says:

You don’t cut Bell with no speed on your team.

Please. That’s like signing a wide receiver because he can block.

Dude could not catch, could not stay healthy. If you are just looking for guys who can run, there are thousands of track guys looking for work.

  11. SuperSam Says:

Nice try to try and sugar coat Winston Joe, yea our slow receivers is why

  12. tmaxcon Says:

    iamkingsu

Bell that’s funny. You are joking correct???? Not a d coordinator in the league would respect bell. Once the pads come on he is a nin

  13. rrsrq Says:

Go back to Braxton Miller being available with our pick that we traded up,to get Roberto, nothing personal against that guy, but we needed a speed receiver.

  14. Doctor Stroud Says:

It might be time to reduce VJax’s salary from $55,555,555.55 (because it was all about #5, according to Kajagoogoo-loving ex-GM Mark Dominik). What would be an appropriate salary level using the #3?

  15. BucsFan90 Says:

Vincent Jackson and Conte are slowing down this team. This is going to be a long season…

  16. LargoBuc Says:

When Jameis looks off, the entire team looks off. We dont have anyone that can really step up when he is having a bad game. And yeah the lack of receiving talent is glaring. But Jameis had a number of bad throws too. Again, this pffense has no plan b when the qb is having a bad game

  17. SuperSam Says:

Winston is over throwing 6’5 receivers, seriously? That is the most pathetic excuse for a game like Winston had today that ive ever heard. Do us all a favor and quit your biased journalism. Its awful. Winston was PURE AWFUL TODAY. Only way to put it. DONT SUGAR COAT IT!

  18. iamkingsu Says:

You give him 1 or 2 targets a preseason game with a 3rd string qb throwing him the rock. All I ever heard is people say ted him can’t catch didn’t stop him from catching 10 td passes. And no morons I’m not saying he’s ted ginn

  19. GhostoSchiano Says:

    Riley cooper is available…

    Just saying

  20. JabooBuc Says:

SuperSam, where were you last week? Sure, Jameis did not have a great day. However, I would argue that someone on this offense needs to step up and make a play. The first pick on the bomb to Evans, Mike quits on the play. If you can’t catch it then you owe it to your QB and team to make sure the DB does not. Mike stopped and let Peterson have the INT.

Also, I know one of the pics was a tipped ball and one was on a end of game Hail Mary. The point of Joes statement is that there is not a weapon on this team that creates separation. It’s NOT Jameis.

  21. iamkingsu Says:

You don’t have another person on your entire roster than can threaten a defense vertically and you cut your fastest player?

  22. Bucnjim Says:

Not sure what happened or why, but Jackson seems to want no part of what is going on.

  23. thunderchunkyPA Says:

VJAX is toast, he is done. I agree, the move up to draft the kicker could haunt this team for ages. With all the WR talent still there, why pass on it? We ALL knew WR was an issue, but Licht made one of his ONLY mistakes by not making a move for a WR.

  24. Stpetebucsfan Says:

We don’t have the speed. OK! But Koetter has figured a way to get guys behind defenses. He’ll have to be creative.

We need a better pass rush and that’s a fact none of us deny.

#3 will have far better days and so our offense will look better.

The turnover margin today…5 for us…0 for them.

Can ANY of you remember an NFL game where one team had five turnovers while the other team had none and still won?

5-0 in the turnover battle will lose every game I don’t care which WR’s or safeties you draft!

“I wanted to be drafted by the tampa bay bucs and play in front of Kobe Faker” Sterling Shepard

  27. JonBuc Says:

Appears to be classic case of “one year too long” vs “a year early” as it relates to V-Jax. I get it…he’s been a great Buc and the receiver position is/was already thin. Nice severance package this year I suppose…

  28. Cobraboy Says:

Turn the ball over 5 times and WR speed doesn’t matter.

Don’t turn the ball over in that game and it’ll be much, much closer.

  29. Hawaiian Buc Says:

It is so funny to me how quickly people overreact. Last week there were people saying we win this game and go to the Super Bowl. Now, everyone is claiming people are done and the season is going to be a failure. Get a grip people! It’s one game out of 16.

  30. BucsFan90 Says:

Lets not forget our 2nd round kicker missed another FG today. Licht and Koetter look like the biggest idiots in the nfl right now. Should have picked Von Bell or a speedy receiver.

  31. Joe Says:

Do us all a favor and quit your biased journalism.

You know, if Joe sucks so bad, you don’t have to read (much less comment). Of course, if you are that lazy/addicted, Joe could help you out and click the magic button.

    As always, it’s your call.

  32. Off the Cuff Says:

Move Vincent Jackson to the slot, and draft a speedy replacement for the outside. Remember the Patriots have short, average speed receivers, but they are great route runners.

  33. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Ha ha Joe you such a funny guy! Push the button! You know you wanna!

The one guy who had a decent game was Hump. He balled. On the deep ball to him if Fameis had put it further out he could have gone for it

Evans punked out on that int.

The o line is weak can’t open much holes for the run game.

The defense gave up after the 1st half

    Jameis was inconsistent & off

The great coaching staff was exposed

People already jumping off buildings. The season is over.

    Guaranteed losses…..Carolina x2 Denver Seattle Rams Saints x 2

  34. Deminion Says:

VJax doesn’t look like he cares… On the INT he wasn’t even looking for the ball… Ijs…

  35. LakeLandBuc Says:

The Falcons cut Roddy White, the Saints cut Marques Colston, the Panthers cut Steve Smith. But we hold on to VJAX and take the $ million dollar cap hit. We have to be the DUMBEST franchise in the NFL, and we have a lot of DUMB fans that agrees with these moves.

  36. America's Commenter Says:

The whole “Dunkaneers” concept was a terrible idea from the start. Speed kills in the NFL and none of these guys have any speed. Things won’t change until the people pulling the trigger on the draft and free agency start making better decisions. Like not passing on stud WR and DE prospects in the 2nd round to draft a bleeping kicker.

  37. DiscoYak Says:

The bucs missed Mike James today. He could have carried the run game a lot better than Sims.

  38. Joe Says:

The bucs missed Mike James today. He could have carried the run game a lot better than Sims.

Not likely. James was/is injured, which is why the Bucs gave him an injury settlement.

But, yeah, James is a better runner (when healthy) than Sims. Of course, that bridge has been crossed.

  39. Kobe Faker Says:

I agree need a no nonsense north south hit the hole runner…

DM and Sims sure can dance back there

  40. 97bucs Says:

Definitely need wr help. Definitely need to use a first round pick in next years draft for a nice speedy complimentary receiver with great hands to pair with evans. Vincent Jackson isnt Vincent Jackson anymore. Hes still a big body who can play at the nfl level but cant excel anymore at or above the nfl level. We need to accept it and be thankful for all hes done for the organization and move on next year.

  41. JAB83 Says:

How is the problem V-Jax when clearly he has been wide freaking open on EVERY pass that has been thrown his way!!!!

You people need to watch the game and believe your eyes not what you are lead to believe.

Clearly he and JW are not clicking but JW has missed most of his passes this year. Thats a QB issue not a WR issue.

TAPE DONT LIE…. If V-Jax is finished so is our QB because he cant even get the ball close to him…

Lets all hope its the early season yeps between he and V-Jax cause we need both of them…
