“Next Question”

September 8th, 2016
Joe and Gerald McCoy had unexpected tense moments today.

Joe and Gerald McCoy had unexpected tense moments today.

Joe did not plan to address a specific Bucs locker-room happening today here.

However, since the video has been viewed by loads of Bucs fans on Buccaneers.com, and presumably the team wanted it to be seen — and since Joe was pressed to discuss it unexpectedly by Steve Duemig on WDAE-AM 620 this evening — Joe feels compelled to respond to readers of JoeBucsFan.com.

Gerald McCoy took questions from media in the locker room today, as would be typical for him on a Thursday during the regular season.

Joe asked McCoy whether he had individual goals for 2016, a pretty basic and normal question before the start of opening day.

In the past, McCoy has talked about his personal goals and his life on his Buccaneers Radio Network show, and he’s acknowledged the 10-sack mark before, for example, so it’s not like McCoy never goes personal.

Well, McCoy didn’t like Joe’s question.

“C’mon, man. Y’all ask me that every year. Stop that,” McCoy responded with frustration. “I want to win. I just want to win. Stop asking me that. You ask me that every year and I tell you the same thing. I just want to win. Stop asking me that.”

Ok, fair enough.

So Joe followed up with a completely different question, asking McCoy if Warren Sapp had shared any preseason wisdom with him. In the past, McCoy has volunteered details from his private chats with Sapp, including in news conferences and on his radio show.

“Next question. That’s disrespectful, man. I asked you to stop asking and you kept asking,” McCoy responded. “That’s the same thing asked a different way. Anybody else. I’ll talk to anybody else.”

Joe really was shocked by McCoy’s response. And it seemed other media types around McCoy were, as well. Why did McCoy think Joe asked the same question a different way and was disrespectful?

Well, Joe talked to McCoy privately later. McCoy even graciously pulled Joe to a more private area of the locker room to make sure it was a private chat.

All Joe will say is that after a few minutes, the air was fully cleared and McCoy is all good with Joe. And Joe is certainly all good with McCoy. Joe has thick skin and is doesn’t worry about a ruffled feather or two, but Joe certainly doesn’t want McCoy or any other Buccaneer to think Joe has some sort of malicious intentions when that was the furthest thing from reality.

Just like Joe appreciates Dirk Koetter’s candor, Joe likes seeing it — and hearing it — from McCoy, too.

It seems to Joe like McCoy might be taking on a little bit of the personality of his head coach. And Joe’s all good with that.

  1. Ryan Says:

I think we can all benefit from a more agitated Gerald. 3 more days.

  2. Defense Rules Says:

Might be interpreting this the wrong way Joe, but it sounds like GMC just wanted the focus of media questions to be on the team and not on him. Think that’d have anything to do with Jameis and GMC talking about leadership a few weeks back?

  3. Kevin Schmidt Says:

    I LIKE IT!!!

  4. SB with Jameis Says:

I think maybe Joe just got banned by GMC.

  5. CLBucsFan Says:

Shouldn’t have asked the follow-up question Joe! Lol kidding aside this new attitude could be a good thing for McCoy

  6. Bucsfan107222 Says:

Maybe the media shouldn’t worry about what players say in the locker room and worry more about what happens on the field. I don’t care how many sacks he gets if we’re winning. Glad he feels the same.

  7. unbelievable Says:

    LOL @ SB!

  8. DB55 Says:

so he dropped you and then he picked you back up. Some things never change. HA! Boom pow! Ty. I’m here all week folks.

  9. Joe Says:

Maybe the media shouldn’t worry about what players say in the locker room and worry more about what happens on the field.

NFL wants “the media” to care, hence why NFL mandates teams open lockers x-amount of times a week during the season for player interviews.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

    Ha ha ha ha Joe.

How are we going to stop Kelvin Benjamin?

We’re not. Not with Grimes or mighty mouse VHGIII.

  11. SB with Jameis Says:

VH3 will lead the team in Ints ’87. That is all I know. How we stop KB will be up to Smitty.

  12. Joe Says:

We’re not. Not with Grimes or mighty mouse VHGIII.

So Bucs should get some sh!tty cornerback who is 6-4 who couldn’t cover his arse with underwear?

You do know Grimes and Hargreaves are only an inch shorter than Revis, right? So you are saying Revis couldn’t cover Benjamin?

  13. BigPoppaBuc Says:

I love it… Sorry you had to be on the receiving end, Joe; but there’s an obvious chip on McCoy’s shoulder that has been missing since he was drafted. Everybody has been begging for a GMC that isn’t so ok with losing well now you’ve got it. Well, Joe got it.

  14. Dave Says:

    Buc1987
    Really???
    Are you that ignorant?
No team has ever won against a team with a real tall WR?
Can’t figure out a game plan? A pass rush? Pressure? A double team occasionally?
Hell, if that’s the case Harold Carmichael should have about 13 super bowl rings at 6’8″ I believe
You really need to just get over yourself sometimes.

  15. DB55 Says:

So you are saying Revis couldn’t cover Benjamin?
    ————
He can’t cover deandre Hopkins and he’d have no chance against KB. This isn’t the AFC east.

  16. DB55 Says:

    Jonathan Banks

  17. Chris Says:

Which goes to show you, college homerism is more important than your NFL team. This is JOE BUCS fan, not Joe Seminole Fan. Go take that crap to some Seminole blog. You guys really care more for your ex college athletes than your team

  18. Chris Says:

Lol lol lol, argueably the greatest cover corner and your Seminole guy who’s played 1.1/16 of a year in the league . Like I said, college homerism blinds you people to realty .

  19. Dewey Selmon Says:

I’m crying at the little PR twink standing behind GMC. At the first sign of drama he tries to stop everything. He tried to to step in front of GMC and he says “thank you” and everyone ignores him. lol

  20. Buc1987 Says:

Ha ha ha ha we’ll see.

Don’t everyone get your panties in a bunch.

  21. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

That new Broncos QB isn’t half bad!

    And a fullback scored!

  22. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Kelven hurt

  23. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Nm, he’s bakc

  24. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Hah! Marshal took a knee during the anthem, now he’s hurting. Karma, sucker.

  25. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Let’s be honest here…..watching this game, is there anyone else that is looking for injuries to both teams……not career ending or even season ending….but some nagging hamstrings, groins etc.
And…..is there anyone here that would like to see someone kick the ever-livin’ $hit out of Cammy Newton?

  26. HIRE JIMBO Says:

Lol Carolinas line looks dodo. And Scam is crying like a baby already

  27. HIRE JIMBO Says:

I legit hate Scam and his fans. They talk about JW3 but they get amnesia when u ask why Scam was kicked out of UF.lol

  28. SB with Jameis Says:

Funny Jimbo……….I was telling a guy I am building a house for today about Cam being dumb enough not only to cheat, but to be caught Twice doing so. He had no Idea. He just didn’t like his attitude.

  29. LifeOfABucFan Says:

I really am not worried at all with the kitties…I know our defense will have Cam on his back quite a few times.

And maybe TBBF is McCoy!!! And since he was sent to time out, now McCoy wants Joe on to time out!

McCoy is getting the Smitty personality..I love it! Let the F word fly around on the field Sunday! No more gosh dern it! But the pure F word and lots of bullying!

    Go BUCS!!!

  30. HIRE JIMBO Says:

    And stealing laptops

  31. Buc1987 Says:

    TBBF…yep.

  32. ElioT Says:

I just want to see someone rip that stupid doo-rag off Cam’s head. Hell of a player, but also a complete douche bag.

McCoy should be pissed and carry a chip. He’s been in the league how long and has yet to do anything memorable!

Let’s go GMac!!! Do something this year!!! Get your defense fired up!!

  33. Nick Says:

Like I have said since day ONE,

    1. He is no leader
    2. He is no elite player
    3. Jamies will make up for him and he will go down as a good, but very under achieving Bucs.

  34. Capt Blighe Says:

I think Joe may have a reputation for stirring the pot in the locker room.

  35. JMN Says:

It’s about time McCoy! I hope he takes that anger out onto the field.

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Lifeofabucfan……..

GMC is a friend of mine…..I have asked him to help Colin Kaepernick up during the National Anthem since he likes helping other players up.

  37. HIRE JIMBO Says:

You can even tell when cam is gonna run pre snap. He stands sideways and takes the snap with his right foot back already.

  38. salish_seamonster Says:

Seems to me that McCoy doesn’t want to talk about peripheral nonsense and just wants to win, which is all you can ask. I’m fine with it… And really, how is Warren Sapp even relevant to McCoy at this point? Pretty sure McCoy has seen everything Sapp did by now – he’s not some young pup. McCoy shouldn’t have to be under anyone else’s shadow.

  39. LifeOfABucFan Says:

TBBF..he also needs to help up Brandon Marshall!

And to answer your main question..I am human..so yeah, I want to see a few bumps and bruises on the kitties..and why not??!!

  40. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

Haha in three of my leagues I drafted Benjamin late and he’s starting for me. I guess people don’t truly follow football. Haha I saw the sarcasm in 87 message, and knew he would get yall. I like the humor 87!! Muah hahaha. Now I just need the Panthers to lose. Football is back folks! Go Bucs!!

  41. HIRE JIMBO Says:

    Newton hurt is back. Uhoh

  42. The bucfan 88 Says:

Newton better suck it up I want him healthy when we play him so we show the world he just a man

  43. HIRE JIMBO Says:

Denver offence looks kinda bad. But it’s a NO NAME qb

  44. Joe Says:

And really, how is Warren Sapp even relevant to McCoy at this point? Pretty sure McCoy has seen everything Sapp did by now – he’s not some young pup.

Sapp claims he and GMC talk weekly.

  45. DB55 Says:

Awfully crisp game for the first game of the year. Nice plays by both QBs. Running game nice, can’t stop KB you can only hope to contain’em. Routin for Denver-the mile high city, God bless their soul.

  46. Mike Johnson Says:

YOU..are a piece of..{[Deleted for hate speech] Joe. Its why the confederacy will never, ever rise again,

  47. DB55 Says:

K Short making a play in the 4th. In the RZ. Imagine that!

  48. Brian Says:

You will eventually lose your credentials… Just a matter of time.

    A. It wouldn’t happen because Joe behaves professionally. B. If it did, it really wouldn’t affect things here one bit. –Joe

  49. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Mike Johnson testing Joe’s thick skin!!!

  50. BringBucsBack Says:

Some of you guys are not worried about the Panthers? There are soooo many reasons we should be worried about them that I couldn’t possibly enumerate all of them at this time and it makes me wonder if you watch football at all! I’m pretty sure our Bucs will have to work EXTREMELY hard to eek out a close win against them, this year.

  51. Mike Johnson Says:

Joe..I’m requesting you ban me tonight. Your website is full of Sh.. If you don’t I’m gonna keep on..keepin on. You like to agitate the gravel when there is no need to. Thus..we are where we are. Now that you see glimmers of hope, You THINk we are almost there. You are wrong. you know you want repsonses for readership. But man, you are either an antagonist..or just a southern red..ne.k. People. players will never be..what you and your readers want them to be..They are individuals. Joe…My love hate relationship with your website is depressing Ban me..PLEASE!!! If you don’t?? McCoy is..Spot on. You shameful B…..!

Apparently, you seem to have not read what was written in this post. What agitate? Responses for readership? Joe treats every post the same and this post, in fact, was published during off hours. Every other outlet covering the Bucs “features” stories and adjusts emphasis and promotion of articles for readership. Joe has no expectations of players other than to play hard for the fans. –Joe

  52. HIRE JIMBO Says:

I see our teams as VERY similar THIS year. Except our corners are BETTER

  53. HIRE JIMBO Says:

Ex Buc making the play. LET’S GO BRONCOS

  54. Mike Johnson Says:

Just leave the man alone JOE!! Let me do his thing. You ain’t no GD coach!! McCoy is fine. man. I’m starting to HATE this website. Ban me..I DEMAND IT!!! If you don’t, I will continue to be the alternative voice.

Leave who alone? Joe is an ardent and vocal supporter of McCoy. Even Ira Kaufman’s first column here was a staunch defense of McCoy and a shame-on-you to those who bash him. Enjoy it right here. https://www.joebucsfan.com/2016/07/bucs-blog-ira-kaufman-gerald-mccoy/–Joe

  55. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m sick and tired of all YOU Buc losers. I was at the very 1st Bucs game. We lost pitifully. I promised myself from then on, I was going to be a Bucs fan. Even though my dad cursed and drank his beer. I’m sick and tired of…Yes, I am Psychotic..of all of this websites..BS!!

  56. Brian Says:

  76. DB55 Says:

Excellent start to the season! We are officially tied for first place in the division. Let keep it like that.

  77. BennyBucs Says:

I’m telling y’all right now, we’re going 10-6, sweeping the division

  78. SB with Jameis Says:

Phuck!……..One loss for me on the Pick em. Congrats to all who picked Denver.

  79. Buc1987 Says:

Jimbo…where does it imply that I’m rooting for Benjamin?

Oh the other 87….well he’s rooting for the Panthers to lose that’s for sure and they did.

    0-1 baby.

    Go Bucs beat Atlanta!

  80. HIRE JIMBO Says:

U were rooting for KB. I like kb, but whatever is better for the bucs is what I root for. Just think, a win on Sunday and a for sure NO loss to the Raiders and we are leading the division.

  81. HIRE JIMBO Says:

87, I corrected that with next post, I apologize. I was talking to Db55. I thought he was rootin for KB13

  82. Buc1987 Says:

I was saying our little DB’s ARE going to have a tough time covering him and that will become a fact like it or not. I ceratinly wasn’t rooting for him by no means.

He took off the FSU jersey a long time ago. He’s the enemy.

  83. Buc1987 Says:

    OOOOOOOO

  90. tickrdr Says:

    @GatorBuc:= SB with Jameis:

Good evening to you young man!

    tickrdr

  91. SB with Jameis Says:

    Why?

  92. Andytheman24 Says:

Wtf is this dudes deal, if you don’t like Joes take on things don’t go on his website, simple as that

  93. LifeOfABucFan Says:

    Remember:

We do NOT have to hear about the Panthers having a perfect season..because they are NOT!

Can’t wait to see Newton and his dental floss on his back many more times this year..

Tonight, I loved Denver..but the love stops there..

New Orleans loss and we win, guess what? We will be top in NFC and we will stay there!

  94. LifeOfABucFan Says:

NFC South..sorry, blame it on Nyquil and McDonalds Fish Fillet diet..

  95. BigHogHaynes Says:

BM#54 of the Broncos protested tonight by taking a knee at our National Anthem, I support him and all the other players who chose not to take a knee, it is his choice, it doesn’t make him a loser or unpatriotic or a bum, it makes him a man who believes in his convictions and is willing to face the back lash that is surly to come his way. Thank you BM#54 for putting it ALL on the line!

  96. Duke Says:

    To the Cam haters,

I would be the first to agree with the haters when they claim Cam is a huge d.b. based on his past mistakes. But they are in the past.

Now Cam is a different person and if you ever have an opportunity to meet him you’d learn he’s a genuinely good dude. He’d be the first person to admit his past transgressions and explain how becoming a born again Christian changed him fundamentally as a person. Watching the news clips of Cam and it’s easy to view his behavior in a negative light. But that’s not really about his behavior as it is about how his actions are viewed thru what ever prism someone else chooses to use. Bottom line, He’s a very good guy and his actions off the field, charity work, do nothing but reinforce it.

Now because he’s a panther I can’t root for him in the slightest. In fact, I hope the Panthers lose every single game. But I will defend his character as a friend from the b.s. spewed by people who don’t know him, have not even met him and who’s opinion is based on a few points real or perceived.

Note, he was kicked off the Gators but it’s not as clear cut as many people seem to believe. There’s other factors that contributed to that decision and it wasn’t all based on stealing a laptop. My advice to Gator fans, who want to thump their own chest and act pious about the situation, is simple. There’s nothing, absolutely nothing, to be all high and mighty about in this instance. Pick another spot.

  97. salish_seamonster Says:

^^ Sorry, Cam excuser, but he’s still a d-bag. Being “born again” doesn’t mean sh!t in my book. He’s still a pouting crybaby punk and a spoiled little b!tch.

Also, WTF Mike Johnson! Did you go off your meds?

  98. richbucsfan Says:

Joe, as much as you might not want to hear it, your gig with Big Dog isn’t working. I don’t think it’s you, it’s Big Dog. Seems like he wants to be bad cop, you the good cop. He’s really not good at it…in fact, he’s really bad at it. I would prefer to just listen to you without the constant inane interruptions. The BD seems to feel a need to disagree or ask a stupid question, or make an irrelevant comment. It makes the segment barely worth listening to. This is just one man’s opinion, but I’m sure I’m not alone on it.
Joe certainly disagrees with you. It’s Big Dog’s show, a very popular one at that. How could Joe’s “gig” not be working.–Joe

  99. BigHogHaynes Says:

Sure there were other reasons Cam left UF, you’d have to be a complete jack-ass not to see it! Go Bucs!

    “Ban me..I DEMAND IT!!!”

Man – Joe – talk about a golden opportunity.
This poster is a total douche most of the time and annoying as hell. Give this idiot what he wants – for the benefit of all. He said your website is full of chit – that you are an agitator on purpose for more clicks and he called you a Bitch. All on your own website.
What the hell are you waiting for? Time to ditch this loser – and the same goes for Kobe Faker – make it a twofer.

  101. Dave Pear Says:

Just to clarify. Cam Newton was NOT kicked off of the Gators. He was suspended for stealing the lap top. He decided to TRANSFER when Tebow announced he would be returning for his senior season. You really think Urban Meyer would have kicked this talented player off the team?

  102. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Joe you know why he ot upset? It’s because media types DO take words and twist them and take them out of context to fit it into the context of their story. Fans constantly talk crap about him because of his beliefs that make him who he is…… a really nice guy. People out here want him to be what he’s not……..a vicious individual. They question his manhood and ability as a player even though the true measure is the amount of respect he gets around the league but these same idiots don’t care about that. He’s been badgered and disrespected the whole time he’s been on this team and all these people who hide behind their media credentials and keyboards will never man up and say these things straight up to his face. Every man has his breaking point and he’s hit his.

Last night it was so funny to see Camille crying about late hits. Fameis gets hit with worse so why should he get those calls?

Kekvin is a beast. We’re going to need Evans to be even a bigger beast when we play them.

  103. Bob in Valrico Says:

    @mike Johnson
Joe has pretty much always had McCoy’s back on this site. I will give him credit for that.Perhaps a self ban is in order for you.

  104. chipbuc Says:

As far as im concerned give Mike Johnson his wish ban him, im sick of his negative ass!!!!

  105. BucTrooper Says:

I think Joe should moderate the debates. He’s not afraid to ask the tough questions.

  106. BUC55 Says:

I agree with Pickgrin. Get rid of those 2 negative idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  107. D-Rome Says:

Yikes, Mike Johson….that went from 0-1000 in a few seconds.

As for GMC a part of me wonders if he reads this site and sees the negative comments.

  108. The Buc Realist Says:

The only wrong thing is the media and fans put GMC93 too high on a pedestal!!!! Then they love to knock them down!!!! He was not the next coming of Sapp and not the great franchise leader that some said he was!!! He is a very good player that needs help!!!!!

    @Joe
Any truth to the Rumor that Thomas 2.2 will show up at the first home game now that he has completed his cowardly lion GMC93 uniform????

  109. Bob in Valrico Says:

have to agree ,realist. Now with help and a proper rotation he could prove that
he is more than some give him credit for. No time like the present to step up.

  110. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Realist ain’t never lie on that one! GMC is a very good player and this preseason between the Jags and then the Clowns proved how good. Without him no pass rush to speak of with him the entire front line feasted in the 1st half alone! He’s always needed help since he’s a been here. Finally he has it. This is the breakout year for this line.

  111. Patrick in VA Says:

It’s funny to read this thread because you can see almost the exact moment when Mike Johnson face planted on to his keyboard in a angry, drunken stupor. At least he had JBF though. If it hadn’t been for his ability to vent on here to the Joes then there may have been a domestic incident somewhere in the greater Tampa Bay area.

  112. Duke Says:

    @hire jumbo Fisher

You wrote that you could tell pre snap wether Cam was going to run and pointed to his foot being back. I’m curious if there was something else that you noticed but didn’t mention that tipped you off. I ask because his right foot being back couldn’t have been it. Cam like all QB’s schooled in the spread are coached to place one foot back. It’s part of the foot work associated with the spread, so it couldn’t have been that. Did you notice any thing else?

  113. Duke Says:

    @Dave pear

You’re absolutely correct in stating Urban Meyer wanted Cam. The transfer while accurate isn’t the whole story. Tebow’ s return was definitely a factor but not the way you string it together. IOW, x+y=z which is how I believe your comments are following a logical path but it’s not that black and white. There’s more to the story.

  114. Duke Says:

    @bighoghayes,

Lol, in case you’ve missed it, there’s no shortage of Jack azzez.

  115. Dave Pear Says:

    @Duke,

I was under the impression that Cam did not want to sit on the bench behind Tebow for another year, so he tranfered to a JUCO for a year. Then the bidding began and Auburn won. What am I missing?

  116. Duke Says:

    @Dave Pear

Dave I’m not trying to be evasive or obtuse but the story isn’t out there for a reason. I’m positive that at some point, probably a book , will illuminate the subject. Until such time the best I’m willing to do is point you in a couple directions.

I think the best way to make sense of the situation is to take the information you presented, as it’s mostly true, along with the direction I point out and allow it to expand the cause and effect linear model to one with multiple points of cause but with the same results.

First, reconsider Urban Meyer’s position. Not the part where he wanted Cam but why he couldn’t manage to bring him back. Next, if Cam left because he’d sit Urban could have played with both as he has done with other QB’s in the past.
That situation was a win win for all parties but it didn’t happen. Juco v SEC for an elite prospect is not equal in terms of experience gained by playing at the lowest of levels vs getting limited reps at the most elite institution in the land. Hard to even consider how a kid in Cams position could swallow his super sized ego to the point he’d even think about it yet alone actually do it. Look at the underlying assumptions and take it away. What assumption, the most basic one
that the options you’re assuming to exist don’t. Then it’s much easier to understand Urban’ s inability to accommodate Cam.

Boosters and alumni need to be brought up. As well as Administrative personal. Their combined interests need to be separated and considered separately. As well as their influence on the overall program. One is significantly more powerful than the others.

Last, look closely at the relationship between the schools most successful coach ever and the school. How it started and ended. Does it make any sense ?

Dave it’s all the pieces, I wouldn’t have provided them to you unless I sincerely believed you can put it all together and that you’re genuinely interested in gaining knowledge. Sorry I can’t put it together for you but I think you’re of significant good character and understand. If you want to run your ideas by me I’m happy to read them.

Add in there an ex buc and gator

  118. Dave Pear Says:

    @Duke,

I am totally intrigued. You seem to have some real intel. Are you going to write that book?
    Spurrier?

  119. Duke Says:

    @Dave,

Lol, I’ll leave that to Coach Meyer.

Btw, the #2 QB spot in 08 wasn’t Cam it was Brantley. There’s another QB prospect, in state, that wasn’t offered by UF who like Cam was a perfect fit for Urban’ s offensive scheme and who also had success out-of-state. Denard Robinson.

The results are in and indisputable, Cam hugely successful, Denard successful, Brantley uh not so much. But Brantley got the nod over one and a scholarship never offered to the latter. What in Sam Hain was a traditional drop back style QB doing even being on the roster when Urban is a master of the spread.IT ain’t like Cam had a growth spurt in his Junior year nor did Denard wake up in Michigan one morning and discover that overnight he developed elite speed.
In hindsight, it’s amazing that Tebow started over Cam yet alone Brantley.

Later, Urban recruited Trey Burton a spread QB. Trey was a Tebow clone, a good fit for his offensive scheme. Isn’t it odd that Urban would recruit and start the only kid who wasn’t a spread QB over all of the other spread guys?

    @Duke,

Thanks for your insight. I guess I never realized how much pull the alumni had when it came to the make up of the roster. I had forgotten about Brantley.
I was a fan of his Father and Uncle. I’m guessing that name played a big part into his special treatment.
Just one more question. You are obviously very close to the program.
    Did you play there?

  121. Dave Pear Says:

The light bulb just went on. The ex buc-gator was Scott Brantley.
Very interesting stuff Duke. Thanks again.

  122. Duke Says:

    @Dave

To start, You are welcome sir. Besides anyone who has been a Buc fan long enough to know Dave Pear is tops in my book.

I just read an article that is very informative to the point of alumni power.
I’m surprised, very surprised about the details contained within. I think you’ll find it interesting and informative to the issue we’ve discussed.

    The article is at,
sbnation “confessions of a bag man”

Dave I can say from experience that the article is accurate and sheds light on an area of D1 programs where it’s not wanted. That being how and why so much power with in a program is held by alumni and boosters. A Coach works for them not the school. Pleasing them and is the single most important thing. Priority #1. Wins and losses pale in comparison to the importance of seeking approval from this group. A Coach who can’t understand this, can’t manage it, is not for long in the ranks of D1 candidates. They have the power to dictate and they do. Unfortunately this ends poorly for the Coach, the program and the kids.
