It’s widely known that 22-year-old middle linebacker Kwon Alexander has been enjoying regular 7 a.m. film sessions with Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith.

On Sunday, all that work paid off in a unique way — at least unique for Kwon.

His first-quarter, pick-6 was the first defensive touchdown of his college and NFL careers.

The play was about much more than good fortune, Kwon told the Buccaneers Radio Network last night.

“I knew what was up, man. Just film study,” Kwon said. “I studied that. I already knew that they went 3-by-1. And, you know, they was just dumping the ball. They’re not throwing it deep [in that formation].”

The short pass was intended for Tavon Austin, and Kwon said as soon as he saw Rams quarterback Case Keenum look down he took off.

“Dropped in my zone. I just went and got it,” Kwon said, adding, he had no concern that Keenum would run him down en route to his TD.

Kwon said he’ll roll out his “planned dance,” one in the works for a long time, for his next touchdown.

“I forgot about it,’ Kwon said, saying this touchdown Sunday was all about keeping the ball.

This years bright spot, that won’t get a look at the pro bowl because of who he plays for even though his numbers will be right there with the best lbs in the game that are not designated pass rushers

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

His “planned dance” will now get a penalty because it was “planned”.

#1–Knock off the musical employment chairs for HC/GM for 3 years effective this season.
#2-Earth to Mike Smith: let Johnathan Banks play. So what if you didn’t draft him. What little I saw in preseason was better than Conte is now. What have you got to lose? Kudos to you on the play of GMC, LVD, and Kwon Sunday!! They played SB level lights out.
#3-DK, the Hump is a terrific undrafted signing. Kudos to you and Licht.
#4-NFC South is its usual mess. Go Bucs!! 🙂

Kwon is the real deal and the perfect partner to LVD. Their play Sunday proved it!

Koby Faker, LakeLandBuc, iamkingsu and Mike Johnson are all problems orlbucfan. So please – by all means – take “care” of them.

mike Smith is a fine coordinator. It’s the talent level that isn’t there yet. For once, I’ll be patient with this staff because they are simply the best we had in years

    @BucsQcCity

Great post!!!!! The Bucs are running the gauntlet of a schedule as they are trying to learn the new scheme!!! The next big tell will be after the bye week!!! That is when we can expect to see some coaching, maybe a position change or 2!!!!!

    Three years to fix this!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to see his planned dance, I really do. I hate Roger Goodell, who IMHO is taking all the emotion out of Football. Let them celebrate, and if the other team makes a play that cuts our throat, let them remind our Fans with an I Cut Your Throat Gesture.

ORL…I have seen you post your list a couple times, I am not in disagreement with you on most of it. Unfortunately Banks is not a safety, he is a corner.

So, when the defense gives up that ass to the Rams, it’s the players fault? Not the scheme or the coach? You guys are killing me. You’re willing to except that bull that we saw on defense?
