GMC Talks Bucs Coaches

September 15th, 2016
GMC expected Dirk Koetter to be a head coach, just not with the Bucs.

Gerald McCoy expected Dirk Koetter to be a head coach, just not with the Bucs.

One question when Dirk Koetter was promoted to head coach from offensive coordinator was could Koetter, an experienced college head coach, make the transition from NFL assistant.

In the mind of Gerald McCoy, there was no doubt, and that was before Team Glazer promoted Koetter.

Speaking on “The Blitz” this week hosted by Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn on SiriusXM NFL Radio, GMC said Koetter displayed all the intangibles as a coordinator that a team would want in a head coach, and Koetter proved it by who he hired for his staff.

“We always knew, and I said personally, [Koetter] carries himself like a head coach,” GMC said. “Even as an offensive coordinator, he had the demeanor of a head coach. So I knew one day he would be a head caoch. We were just fortunate enough for him to be hired as ours.

“Everybody welcomed him with open arms. We embraced him and we are embracing his opportunity. He brought in another winning coach with Mike Smith who had dominant defenses in Jacksonville and Atlanta.

“You have two guys used to winning with much football knowledge and you put them together, man, it has to breed success. And it shows. If we can put it all together, we can be successful. That showed Sunday.”

GMC also had an interesting nugget. He said neither Koetter nor Smith discussed their past with Atlanta. But GMC said all the players could tell by their intensity and emotions, the win over Atlanta meant a great deal.

Im sure that win did mean a great deal. Especially cause the boys played so well.

I think the Red Birds have another thing coming if they have any thoughts of walking out of this game with an easy victory.

So glad to see this team “jelling” early!!!

If last week was a statement game for the coaches.

THIS WEEK IS A STATEMENT GAME FOR THE TEAM!!!

    Blow them out!!!

    38-17

Our Bucs will be turning a lot of heads this year! There is no doubt in my mind that we will be in the playoffs this year and if we don’t win the division this year then next year it will almost certainly be ours!

    LETS GO BUCS!

I like the coaches mindset. Can’t focus on the past only what’s in front of us. Go Buccs!

I really think we have something special brewing here in Tampa, from the Head caoch to the players. There’s a special vibe to this squad that’s diffrent from the past, these guys are becoming brothers and bonding, and if u want to have a great football Team like our 2000 Bucs who bonded and grew together then they u need to have that chemistry with one another like knowing where your teamate is gonna be at or what he’s thinking on a certain play. It’s the little things like that that help a team grow together and become dominating like the Carolina Panzies for instance. Yes I know f*ck them, I hate them just as much as u do but u have to admit they have that chemistry together, something were learning now as we grow together. We’re finally building a team the right way, this is the blue print to building a dynasty so to speak. And I think we are on our way back to playing football in December every year, the drought has lasted long enough.

Once the decision was made to move on from Lovie – keeping Koetter and promoting him to head coach was a fairly easy decision for Licht and the Glazers IMO.

I fully expect and am looking forward to head coaching stability in Bucville for a change. With Jameis Winston at QB and Jason Licht bringing in the talent – its pretty easy to imagine Dirk Koetter as the HC for the next 8-10 years.

Dem boyz I’ll be watching carolina very closely they’re next game. I’m not so sure they are still the dominant D that we’ve grown to recognize them as. What surprise me about they’re game wit denver wasn’t the play of semian it was the ground yardage they gave up to denver. That front seven didn’t at least in week one look the same. Drago bleeds see “he’s just a man”.

    @Pickgrin….Amen brother!

@NOSBOS…I love you pounding on the Stinkin’ Panthers. They are the enemy this year…they are the rivals we’re going to hate.

I’ll start paying attention to the Carolina D to see if they’re fading a bit. BTW Didn’t Josh Norman get lit up by the Steelers Monday night? Bwaahhaaaa

If I was a Carolina fan I would be most concerned about Cam’s health.
Yeah Denver has a great defense full of head hunters but that game was brutal.
I’m not sure Cam hasn’t already suffered his first concussion of the season.

A few more games like that and they’ll be sending the cart out onto the field to pick him. BTW I would HATE for this to happen. I want us to beat the Stinkin’ Panthers heads up with all their stars in place.

Dirk kotter has brought something that Tampa never seen before in history he brought us a high flying offense people i know people are say Tampa bay is know for it defense with sapp, brooks, lynch, barber and ect but is Tampa got the triplets in Doug,Mike and Jameis but we are slowly becoming a explosive offense team some we as fans never seen before

  10. The bucfan 88 Says:

Noles fan you know that’s why I’m glad we got Jameis cause with out that defense in Carolina cam sucks I never seen him take over a game against a good team look at the teams cam himself looked good in I bet they all had losing records I know what ur saying what about settle and Arizona if u watch that game again the defense dominated both those teams and bothe Arizona and settle defenses got tired look I’m not saying cams sucks well I did but his style the way he plays can exhaust the best of the best so yea If the defense don’t improve Carolina going to have a rough season

88 trust me bro you don’t have to sale me on that guy. I’ve been saying he’s waaayyy overrated the last few years now. I recall very disstinctly two years ago his play was being criticised. Now folks have somehow bought into this superman man bit. Please.

  12. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

2014 he was most sacked QB in the league thru 6 games. Got injured and quite a few that season. They inserted Norman into the starting position and won the last four. Ultimately winning what has been a weak division. Why was he rhe most sacked. My belief he still not really great at reading defense. He was being pounded. Enter 2015 go back watch any game no one I mean no one was blitzing this guy. Made me scratch my head all season long. Still the one of the worse completion percentage of passes 20 more yards downfield. I’m sorry I drinking none of that juice.

McCoy must have a bad memory never remember ATL having “great” defense with Smith in charge
